The now complete Touhou Netbook Test Run.
« on: June 29, 2009, 10:09:29 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I thought some people might to know how well the Touhou games works on a Netbook, so here goes.

Ok, as I bought my Netbook a few days ago now I decided to pin it up against the Touhou games to see how well they fared.

The computer which the tests was performed on was the
Asus Eee PC 1000HE with an additional 1GB RAM bringing it up to 2GB.

Specs are:
1.66Ghz CPU (Intel Atom N280)
2GB RAM (It comes with 1GB but I upgraded to 2)
Intel GMA 950 Graphics card.
160GB HDD
(It also has the usual webcam and whatnot but it's not needed for this)

The 1000HE comes with 3 different power modes, and I will abbreviate them as follows:

Power Save Mode - PSM
High Performance Mode - HPM
Super Performance Mode - SPM

All games were run from a 16GB USB Memory Stick.
And everything is running straight out of the box with only the latest Direct X having been installed.

I also tried some other Doujin games since they were lying around anyway.

EoSD
---
PSM - 58-60 fps (almost no slowdowns)
HPM - 58-60 fps (slowdowns very rarely)
SPM - 60-62 constant fps
---

PCB
---
PSM - 58-60 fps (noticed short slowdown when encountering Yuyuko)
HPM - 58-60 constant fps
SPM - (didn't even try it since even the powersave mode pwns)
---

IN
---
PSM - 44-46 fps (a bit slower than the previous games, still playable)
HPM - 58-60 constant fps
SPM - 60-62/64 constant fps
---

MoF - Level 1-6 powersave mode - 0.2% slowdown
[May have to let go of shift to use bombs, not completely sure]
---
PSM - 58-60 constant fps
HPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
SPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
---

StB
---
PSM - 58-60 fps (some slowdowns)
HPM - 58-60 constant fps
SPM - (not tested - [see HPM])
---

SA - 40 fps on Orin's Blazing Wheel - 45-50 on Utsuho's Nuclear Fusion
For some reason it seems to always slow down on those 2 cards.
As I haven't checked this on other computers I can't confirm this.
---
PSM - 55-60 fps
HPM - (around 60 fps - some slowdown [see notes])
SPM - (around 60 fps - some slowdown [see notes])
---

SWR - I haven't tried the online mode on the Netbook, but otherwise it
runs very nicely. =D
---
PSM - Didn't notice any slowdowns at all.
HPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
SPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
---

IaMP - Only problems I encountered was that I've never played it before.
---
PSM - Works very nicely. =)
HPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
SPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
---

Megamari - No key issues while jumping/shooting at the same time.
---
PSM - Didn't notice any slowdowns at all.
HPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
SPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
---

Touhou Hana - Crashes after selecting character.
[Crash occurs because the program was not run through Applocale]
---
PSM - No slowdown detected until crash.
HPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
SPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
---

Moedan
---
PSM - Didn't notice any slowdowns at all.
HPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
SPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
---

Th12 UFO Demo
The PSM mode is a bit too slow IMO, but it works really nice on HPM.
---
PSM - 40-42 constant fps
HPM - 58-60 constant fps (some slowdown may occur during spellcards)
SPM - (not tested - [see HPM])
---

Rosenkreuzstilette - Lag seems to come from running the game from usb.
Usb stick is reading a lot and is probably the source of the lag.
The game might flow smoothly running from the HDD. I can check later.
---
PSM - Semi-much slowdowns and lag.
HPM - Lag keeps occuring in higher modes.
SPM - Still lagging a bit here.
---

SuperMarisaLand - Didn't really expect any problems here.
---
PSM - No slowdowns.
HPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
SPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
---

Syobon Action
---
PSM - Didn't notice any slowdowns at all.
HPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
SPM - (not tested - [see PSM])
---

Since I don't have IaMP yet, I haven't been able to try it out. But seeing how SWR presented no problems to the Netbook I don't see how it could be lagging on IaMP. (Especially since UFO also works well)

I hope this might be helpful for anyone. And please post any questions and/or suggestions on other games I could try on it.

Are the shooters done with or without the Vsync patch?

Vsync patch? Whut?
The only patch I've applied is the translation patches, and the latest official SWR patch.

What's a vsync patch? Never heard of any.
