YES!
Lunatic - B1
BaitySM - 90,374,120 - C - 0.0% - Replay

I'm in the middle of exams, but I don't care! I still have like 5-6 days to study for the other two; it's not like as if I'm slacking off or anything. "New" freezing options / optimizations allow for 92-93m... maybe.  Chickened out of doing various scoring tricks / finishing off scoring tricks (most notably, freezing one of Luna's Spell Cards for constant consistent 40-50%s as opposed to the less rewarding ... 20-25%s?).

That was also one of the worst Star Sapphire battles I've had to date. So in the end, I'm still a coward. orz.

12.5m -> 28.5m -> 92-93m?

Lots of stuff
Yes, even something like "A1 Route" can cause the conversations to take awkward directions. I've only played a "few" VNs myself (<7).

I'm interested in trying that setup of yours. As for mine, standard keyboard on a table, 17" LCD monitor; nothing special overall. Problem with actually recording for me is that the current room that I'm in lacks this and that, so the camera stand ended up being a pile of my textbooks in a drawer. I'll see if I can find some way to record both my hands and the screen, (so far, it's been either screen-only w/ the sounds of the keys being struck and an odd-angle UFO run). Here's the left hand on z, x and c (for focus, fire and bomb respectively)
Spoiler:
apologies for the blur for this one
and the right hand on the directional keys.
Also,

because I can.

Wanted to go back to Easy A1, but while watching on Lunatic to refresh my memory of the spells to pop up it's "Yeah...I haven't gotten over stage one of the A route being boring.  And slow repetitive rings."

Normal - C2
Heartbeam - 48,725,950 - C - 1.0% - Replay

I wonder why Kagamin never finished the Normal sweep.  C2 would have gone down without a hitch, but that's okay!  Now I get the fun of figuring out the route.  Soon.  Who knows when.  1% slowdown, courtesy of freezing and shooting during the final spell which was fun.  I don't know where the score will end up, but I expect it to be the second-highest scoring route on Normal.

A lot of unnecessary movements for the final noncard, but it looks exciting.  Spazzy, but nice to watch.

I have no idea how to score higher, even now.

Collaborate.  Copy other people's ideas.  I'm not sure how to describe the route forming process because I'm sure I'm slower than the average person to figure stuff out, given the same timeframe.  Bit by bit.  Look for areas with plenty of bullets, plan your bombs around it.  Consider the trade-off of bombing versus the usual gain from regular freezing, points and contribution to the bomb stock.  Remember, 30% is the magic area when you'll get the max benefit of 20% to your bomb stock instead of starting at half and lower.

Or like this.  Extra emphasis on abusing the freeze ability, it's a plus to just about everything.  Play through and try not to hang out at 300% bomb stock for too long.  That's when you consider the bullet-thick sections you've been through and where to distribute them.  Great way to make the fireballs useful as they soak up a lot of area when frozen.  And I can't explain this well.  Someone asked several days ago and I had the same problem; I wasn't satisfied with any advice I gave.

I don't know, I have things to lay out but it's late.  Maybe later.

I can't complain about a double post.  It's not out of the ordinary to see a thread without activity for nearly two weeks.

Easy - A1
Heartbeam - 34,195,650 - C - 0.120% - Replay

Easy - A2
Heartbeam - 39,224,560 - C - 0.100% - Replay

I was very happy for Dream Dweller to push ahead, and the new improvements have made 40M very accessible.  A test is coming up so I probably won't attempt it until Friday evening.  I want to think you can spend three bombs on the final noncard, but I didn't try it out.  Star Sapphire's version of the final spell is more durable too, so that'll help with freezing up to the 300% stock.  Freezing off all the fairies on Fairy Overdrive is certainly doable and would be worth a few tens of thousands, but I'd rather be cheap and freeze off only the main fairy.  Unless the side fairies drop 40 items each instead of 20.  I've never...checked.

The new potential stage one score is 3.75M, but I want to throw on at least 25K because I didn't count.  The boredom has since worn off, and stage one is a little more fun again.

Easy - B1
Heartbeam - 32,665,360 - C - 0.250% - Replay

Geez, I don't know how I could fail Luna Child's midboss spell.  First time ever.  33M is the target, but the freezing value for some parts can be a bit volatile.  The second stage midboss...Lily White, was it?  Second attack needs a certain timing range along with the power of the freeze to score in the 70K range without freezing the bullet lines on top of her.

Normal - C2
Heartbeam - 51,156,390 - C - 0.610% - Replay

Did I overestimate the route when I said I expected it to be the second-highest scoring for Normal?  The run is still lacking, but I never looked at Kagamin's A1 replay to see if there was any immediate potential for improvement.  I've seen the C1 run, and I'm sure I can edge it out fairly easily (without bringing anything new to the table).

Hard - B1
Heartbeam - 63,114,150 - C - 0.320% - Replay

Maxed motivation so I'm mostly satisfied with leaving it like this.

Hard - B2
Heartbeam - 63,102,600 - C - 0.210% - Replay

Luna Child's first spell bugged out, ha.  I don't know how to handle it anyway.  1000% again.

Hard - C1
Heartbeam - 60,209,650 - C - 0.490% - Replay

There's like four attacks I don't know how to handle in the final battle, slowly dissolving the motivation.

After I said it would be a waste of time to do Hard, but why the hell not.  And if I say they wouldn't be impressive, the obvious answer would be to keep at it until they are.  I know Hard is mostly unpopular, but why were the scores so close to each other?  Way too disturbing, and seeing them merely edged out again made me do something about it.

Easy - A2
Heartbeam - 40,063,360 - C - 0.070% - Replay

I'm happy for the milestone, but the route is far from finished.  Two obvious mistakes in the final stage easily costing up to 360K, one of them from suiciding for no good reason during the second noncard of the final battle.  There won't be a shortage of bombs thanks to the heavy benefit from freezing the final noncard; I'm sure I can bear to live at max motivation for a minute or two.  Orion Belt was pretty interesting.  First time I've frozen the spell like that, and I'm not sure what influences where the bullets initially spawn.

Okay, how about a potential of 3.85M for stage one.  I said you could possibly score 500K from bombing Lily Black's second phase, but...I might tone it down to 485K.  600K for Sunny Milk's second noncard is fine, if a bit lofty, and Diamond Ring will be fun to speculate on.  I've already seen 388K in a previous run.  Then some other stuff, and imagination, and there you have it.  41M and a few hundred thousand extra change is the new pipe dream.  I'll try for 40.5M later by fixing those glaring mistakes, doing a better job with Lily Black's final phase, and wait for a little good luck with boss positioning.

Some cool tidbits about PCB shots I found linked to while doing the occasional check-up on HS-Sanbo's Twitter.  Too bad a lot of the pictures won't show up.

Oh, Fairy Overdrive.  I didn't pay enough attention while watching another run, but it was around 300K (both fairies frozen at the same time).  That's enough to convince me to do it right.  It's fun to do it like that, anyway.

Easy - A2
Heartbeam - 41,098,790 - C - 0.120% - Replay

Finally.  This route with this difficulty, I hate it all.  Missing the first bit of the Starcraft II finals to run one, just one game was worth it!  That's how it should work, doing a star run in the morning after sleeping over it.  Only this one has nothing to do with playing better after getting some rest because I'm always rolling the dice with this.  Rather, it was pitiful and the luck carried me through.  Unbelievable.

Freezing instead of dying against the two fairies before Sunny Milk for 80K.  That miss would have been transferred to another suicide against the opener to dull the freeze damage and freeze again for 40-60K, though I could have done it anyway and have the bomb meter cap out early.  The extra lives are really for suiciding against the final noncard of the three fairies for safety even though the score takes a hit.  Tripped on Diamond Ring even though it went my way.  I don't know much about freezing positions for midboss Star Sapphire's opener, but doing it from the corner like that will usually take a hit of 30-40K.  Just that once, I didn't want to risk dying trying to squeeze between the bullets.  Inexperienced with the final bomb used during the stage, but I should have moved a bit.  The bonus can go for upwards of 400K.

Last section of the stage failed spectacularly.  Opener messed up, second noncard messed up, Orion Belt...I think that's the first time I've seen it open up like that.  Small hit during the final spell, anyway...I've decided not to go back to this, not for a while.  As promising as those improvements look, too much falls on waiting for the bosses to quit trying to leave the screen.  I didn't lose over 20 hours of my life to lose to this game, and after reaching the target I'm not going to stick around hoping for the bosses and Diamond Ring to work out.  Diamond RingDiamond Ring.  Absolute bane.  The sole reason I no longer restart over poor Lily Black phase two positioning.  Oh yeah, I could move that suicide against her first attack into the second one and do a regular freeze three times, but...actually, no reason not to?  Huh.  At first I was worried about her falling into a favorable position while I'm screwing around with the regular freezing, but the concern is really only for the third bomb that won't pop up until most of the freezing is finished.  Actually, I guess that's justifiable.  I hardly see her move back near the center nearing the end of the timer.

Spoiler:
Holy shit that nydus worm.

So then, highlights.

The time elapsed reset for some reason.  The last I saw it was at 116 hours.  Throw in about ten more games quit right before or during the final spell.  Extra stage is locked again and the spell record won't list anything past the first two on Easy.

Going back to the 500K guess for Lily Black's second phase.  Managed to score 489K on that and 606,880 for Sunny Milk's second noncard.  Bumping the stage one limit to 3.9M after scoring 3.818M, but I'm sure if I went back and counted 4M would be the faintest possibility.  I couldn't put that stage one score to good use because the weapon upgraded after freezing the first set of fairies before Sunny Milk, leaving me with no idea as to how much I should be shooting the fairies (they never flash when nearing their demise) and missing the next four.  Personal best for Diamond Ring is 424K, 124K for Lunatic Rain.  Prism flash has exceeded 100K on three occasions.

Special thanks to moozooh for the new direction and making 41M easier to reach!

Double post becuase this score takes the top spot, and editing it into the other post would feel kind of "sneaky." Not sure if Heartbeam or anyone else really cares, but whatever. In any event, I'm glad I was able to score over 80mil. I might be starting to see the appeal of scoring, at least for short things like Extra Stages.

I met my initial goal of 60 million for all routes on Lunatic. I actually overestimated the difficulty of this... Looking back, it was a pretty weak goal, just surviving well and using some bombs for score here and there is enough. However, I've learned now that I definitely favor some routes over others, so my new goal is not to improve all the routes or anything like that. Instead, I will start focusing on the routes I enjoy the most, and those are at the moment A-2 and B-2, so I will start learning more in depth strategies and make sure I can actually pull them off somewhat consistently, before I can truly say that I am capable of getting a run I am happy with. As an initial goal, 70 million for B-2 and 80 million for A-2 seems reasonable, but we'll see what happens, and I'll be surprised if I do not want to push those routes further than that.

For now though, I'm toying around with Extra, and survival-wise I think I have it down okay. I'm wary of killing myself too much, though. The biggest difficulty lies in actually freezing and milking well, it is anything but easy, and this is the reason why the gap between 80 and 90 million must be huge (not to mention 90 and 100 million, that gap must be totally enormous.)

Maybe I'll try to beat Zil, for a start, or maybe I'll give up before that happens... Either way, it goes without saying but this Extra stage is a lot more challenging than the others, and this IMO makes it more fun to run. I have much practice to do, still, as I'm nowhere near having an acceptable score before Marisa (or after Marisa, obviously)

Played with a controller, so it's very messy. No scoring tricks whatsoever. In fact, I intended it to be a no-bomb run as well (to practice dodging in dangerous situations, etc.) but caved on the last spell when I saw how high my motivation was. Of course, I should have used the other two bombs as well before ending it, but I didn't.

I thought I'd give Hard mode a chance. A few attempts later and I finally got something resembling a decent-ish run. My first full run landed at a pathetic 52 million, and after that all of my attempt were scrapped due to shitty playing, plus one game over due to waaaay too many suicides. There's a lot things to be unhappy about, such anything Star Sapphire related (I cannot milk midboss Star for the life of me) and some of my strats are too safe and do not yield a very high score. I misused some of my bombs. I also didn't have as many bombs for Sunny as I would have liked. Bombing her nons and her final is worth a lot. I would kill myself more before/during her fight, but I actually did not reach 1000% motivation this run (I think had 974.)

I think I will do this a bit more until I can at least milk Star properly. Too bad there is no effective way of practicing in this game.

Figured I'd target the easier spots. B-2 didn't even have a score submitted. The B-1 run was terrible. The other was a bit better, but still bad. Is it me, or is Normal mode not much easier than Hard? I'll have to give the other routes a try on Hard mode. I'm hoping to do some serious scores once I'm better at the controls.

Also, I think Fairy Overdrive glitched out in B-1, unless the fairies are supposed to go outside the screen like that.

Yeah, Normal mode can be tricky at times. I still have trouble with B1 :V

Some scoring efforts. Bombing the big spells, and trying to milk a few things. (As if playing it safe weren't the best strategy.) Competition, whoo!

Huh, I actually have some half-year old runs of Normal B-1 and B-2 apparently. I don't remember doing those but whatever... My memory is trash.

Can't say I plan on playing normal again but who knows.

Bad stage 1 as always (I just don't care about it enough) but I can feel slight improvements elsewhere. I have a few tighter strategies now , and I'm still working on learning more. Should have scored higher but I really messed it up at the end, using up two bombs for defensive purposes and thereby ending with only 2 bombs to cash in on the final with, plus I actually died to the final and didn't clear with 1000% motivation. Still, highest Hard mode score on the board!

Nothing much to say about this except that the number is too low.

Have you tried this?

No, I don't find this sort of thing absolutely essential or anything. Maybe one day.

Funky no-focus thing. Pure survival of course, and poorly done (~560%). I'm getting somewhat competent, at least. I'll return to this after further skill sharpening in PoFV.

I think I will do this a bit more until I can at least milk Star properly. Too bad there is no effective way of practicing in this game.

A couple of things that don't normally go right went right in this run, so I'm not completely unhappy with it. Finally managed to milk Star Laser (Sapphire's last midboss card) and the Fairy Overdrive dodges were skillful too.

100m is oh, so distant. I hope I won't give up on it.
