(Skyseas of Gensokyo) Nazrin Quest (Part 15)
« on: December 23, 2015, 01:56:38 PM »
>You are Nazrin, a newly inducted member of the Seeker's Guild, and you are... you are... where are you, again?

>Oh, right, the flower. Need to bring the flower to Yuuka. That's why you're here. That's why you're still walking. Always walking. Need to make the cure before you... before you stop...

>It's already too late, isn't it?

>Accept the canteen.
>Do we thirst still?

>You accept the canteen from Kyouko again. If she gave it back to you, it must be yours, right? Then why was she looking at you like that?
>Catching your breath, you take another sip of water. Though your stomach lurches again, the sweltering heat all but compels you to keep drinking. Just... not too fast.

>Don't want food. Should probably still eat something anyway. Maybe.

>Can we accurately gauge much of anything anymore?

>You can... you can tell that the sun's up. That you're still in the woods. That it's still summer - damnably hot as it is.
>That's... that's not very encouraging, is it?

>Heat.... Hmmm...
>"'zit hot, or that just me?"

>"I actually think it's pretty-" Kyouko trails off with a frown, then leans in and puts a shockingly cold hand on your forehead. The frown only deepens.
>"You're burning up!"

>For a brief moment, you consider the possibility, but you don't think you're that hot.

>"Yeah. Kinda feels like it, too."

>"Let me get you a cool cloth," she says, moving over to her pack. "Or, um, well... a cool towel? I don't think I have anything smaller, except my clothes."
>She dribbles some water from her canteen onto the towel and carries it back over to you.
>"Just lean back a little."

>Obey.
>Hopefully without falling over.

>You shift back against the rock and Kyouko leans down and places the towel across your forehead. The damp chill of it against your skin is bracing - for a moment, even a little painful - but it slowly grows to feel soothing instead. At least that's... not so hot as the air in here.
>Kyouko examines you with a concerned frown, though tries to sketch a smile when your eyes meet hers. Well, you think that's a smile, anyway; everything's so hazy now.

>There is a pause before Kyouko replies, and when she does, it is with that same sad smile.
>"No."

>It's... you don't know? It seemed to help a little, when you were on the boat. But you're also... you're... worse. So much worse. It's hard just to keep yourself present enough to have this conversation. Thinking about the future is harder still. It didn't used to be this hard, did it? It's growing... difficult to remember things. You've been pushing yourself to exhaustion - there's no doubt of that - but you're also...
>Frankly, you're probably almost dead, and that's something no amount of rest will fix.
