Otakuthon at Montreal
« on: July 24, 2012, 08:22:46 PM »
Hi. ^-^
It was brought to my attention that there will be otakuthon at Montreal next moth and I intend to go there.
It will be my first anime convention. ^^
I'm not sure how it will be or what to expect but at the very least I hope to do some nice shopping,
hoping to get my hands on some Touhou games
and perhaps also some import Ps2/Psx/PSP/GBA games.
Pocketstation is not out of the question either, if only for Super Robot Wars Alpha.
Also, perhaps finding some anime could be nice too.
Getting the whole season of Puella Magi Madoka Magika would be really nice among a few things. ^^
Perhaps some Doujins would be nice too.
I would like to get my hand on Chireiden (spelling?) in book form
as well as some of BKUB stuff.
Oh and those Subterran Animisn remixes made by O-Life. Those are awesome! ^^

So,uh, by curiosity, is there anyone else going there as well? ^^
Does anyone have suggestions for me for there?
Someone suggested me to bring a photo device.

Also, I would like to have some info on some Touhou doujin games.
Namely, the Genius of Sapphiero, the Touhou "mystery dungeon"-like game (made by Aquastyle),
Touhou Labyrinth, the Touhou fighting games and  Defiant of Shrine Maiden series.
From what I have seen, these are several version of these games
and I would like to avoid situation like only buying a final expansion pack
or buying a final complete version with an older version.
Can you guys help me for this please? ^^;

Speaking of which, the guys who made Touhou Labyrinth also made another game.
Do you guys know about it and how good it is?

If you have suggestion on stuff to buy, I am open, especially RPGs. ^^

You can wish for anything!

Don't know if you know about it yet, but there's a wiki that has lots of good info on the games and whatnot.

Anyway, apparently Otakuthon is getting two different Touhou panels.  Hopefully they're good and you have a fun experience.

Also, I'm pretty sure Hendane will be at Otakuthon.  They're pretty much the main Touhou goods sellers on the North American convention circuit, and sometimes even do European cons.  They're awesome guys and some of them are even around MoTK at times.

Thanks for your reply.
According to the current schedule, there is a Touhou Panel Friday from 18:00 to 20:00
and one on the Touhou Fandom Sunday from 11:00 to 12:00.
You can be sure that I'll visit them. ^^

I am not sure how my visit will be but I'll soon know. ^^

Hendane, uh? I'll remeber that. : )

It looks like they're not going after all.  =[

I also got word that the panels may be pretty screwed up, so beware if they're bad.

Friday, I attended to the Touhou project panel. ^^
There, people talked about Touhou for a while.
I don't think I have learn much new thing but it was interesting anyway. ^^

At some point, the control pad vs keyboard was mentioned.
From what I remember, both have advantage.
Keyboards are nice for moving in a single straight direction IIRC.
However, control pad make it easier to make thing like circle.

Some people played the game during the discussion.
I managed to try my first official game.
It was on MoF on normal.
And...
I really, really need to learn to feel when to bomb.
Usually, I was doing not to bad but against the boss,
I was dodging, dodging, dodging, ...
What, I got hit anyway?
I didn't make it past the first stage. X D

There was also a guy who played EotSD on easy.
When he was playing against Cirno,
people told him to move in front of her, which he did.
Then he Mastersparked Cirno in the face. X D
He also did better than me as he was using bombs. X D

I did not see any Touhou games to buy there.
There's one day left so anyhing is possible but...
On the other hand, I saw an amazing cosplay of Remilia and Suwako.
I took photos of both. Hopefully I didn't messed them up. ^^
On a unrelated note there was also a guy in a Metal Greymon suit
and another in a Mewtwo suit.

Today, there is the Touhou fandom. I'll visit it as well. ^^

Sounds fun.  Just curious, how was their panel overall?  Did they have any sort of Powerpoint presentation or anything?
