Title: Ask a Staffer Ep. 15 - Matsuri
Post by: MatsuriSakuragi on May 24, 2011, 09:58:23 PM
Welcome, welcome. It appears that it's my turn for this! :3

You know the drill. Bring it on. 8)

Why am I your favourite?

Should I change The Satori Maiden's Christmas Wish's status in the PSL catalog to "neglected FOREVER"?

If I am not mistaking, you had that one girl in your avatar + signature with the large glasses. Who is she and why do you do that.

Why is it I always have the urge to refer to you as a "she" when I know that this is inaccurate?

If you could bring something in (or back if it existed before) to MotK, what would it be and why?

Do you love doing things for us lovely people?

Why am I your favourite?

Because strawberries, swords, justice, roses, and all-around awesomeness. 8) 8) 8)

Seriously though, you're my best friend, we have a lot of common interests, and you've helped me through some really rough times in my life.  Perhaps that's why. <3

:<

It's right here, open at all times. I haven't forgotten .______.

If I am not mistaking, you had that one girl in your avatar + signature with the large glasses. Who is she and why do you do that.

That was Matsuri Sakuragi, my favorite character and namesake, from Ichigo Mashimaro.

Because strawberries.

Where'd you get the name "Matsuri" from?

See above!

What is your favorite pastime?

A year ago, I would have said watching anime and reading manga. Two years ago all the way to when I was just a little kid, I'd say video games.

That said, I haven't been doing anywhere near as much of either in the past year or so in comparison to how much I used to. I just like hanging around online with my friends-- though I have really been getting into photography, as well. I'd have to say that'd be my favorite indoor and outdoor pastimes, respectively.

Quote
What is your greatest achievement in life, what your greatest failure?

I'd have to say my greatest failure was allowing myself to become a timid, introverted, self-loathing mess through the nightmare that was high school.

On the other hand, I'd say getting out of all that was a pretty great achievement-- though I absolutely cannot say I did it alone-- I had a lot of help, and I'll always be grateful for it. <3

Quote
Why is it I always have the urge to refer to you as a "she" when I know that this is inaccurate?

Probably because I had the top femininity score and lowest masculinity score on the BSRI a year or so ago. That said, I dunno why you have that urge-- it's not like I hide my actual gender. :P

When is the festival?

When is it ever not festival time? You lost me. o_o

Quote
Night or day?

I don't really have a preference! Nighttime is quiet, peaceful, and calming, and daytime is time for doing things. :3

Quote
If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?

Oh god. Hmmm.

If I could do away with prejudice and avarice and just have people just generally care about those less fortunate than them, it'd be pretty great.

I know it's not the most inspired or interesting answer, but to be honest, it's not something I've put much thought into. I'll have to think a lot more about that.

Was this intentional?

I actually didn't notice until you mentioned it Of course it was!

Yes.

Seriously. 8)

Quote
How did you arrive at MotK in the first place?

The same way I discovered Touhou, actually. My first online friend, who I have known for years, introduced me to them. :3

Who said we're wack?

You did, clearly. :P

MATSY

Why is Rainbow Resort about as good as it gets?

Because Rainbow Resort bros. 8)

/me brofist.

Quote
Why are you accepted as legal tender?

I still don't know where this is all coming from. Ferrets are not currency.

/me looks at Kerigis.

Or food.

:<

What would you consider to one of the more memorable moments on MotK, Thread / Event wise? Why did you like it so much?

The Special Anniversary Board (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/board,28.0.html)! I personally found it to be a blast to be a part of its execution. :3

Quote
If you could bring something in (or back if it existed before) to MotK, what would it be and why?

Mmm, pretty much everything currently mentioned here (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,9575.0.html), I suppose.

Quote
Do you love doing things for us lovely people?

I always did have fun surprising folks with name changes, avatar switchings, fake bans, and so on. Haven't done as much of that as I used to, though. :<

Quote
If all Admins, Mods and other users of a high title were to engage in a contest to end all contests, who would win and why?

Quote
Also, would you let us 'idiots' decide what the contest involves?  :derp:

You 'idiots' should come up with more contests amongst yourselves first! :derp:

As for who would win, it'd all depend on what the contest was, I suppose. =O

Why are you drawn to Ellen, in all seriousness?

Originally, it was because I really loved her theme. However, after reading more into her, she became one of my favorite characters-- if not entirely because of her memory loss issues. I myself have a really lousy memory, and it frustrates me a lot-- so... eh, I dunno. Something like that.

Also, because fuwafuwa.

Quote
What is more important to you in a game: Scorin' or Goalin'?

While I was notorious a year or so ago for being all AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MUST PLAY FOR SCORE AT ALL COSTS, THE 1CC WILL COME LATER-- I eventually realized that I was getting more frustrated at playing games when I was forcing myself to play them for score. So at this point, I'd say they're both equally important to me, I suppose?

who the fuck are you

Who the hell do you think I am?!

What is your favorite way to eat strawberries?

With more strawberries. :3

Quote
What led you to pick the Psychic type as your favorite type of Pokemon?

Well, I like Grass and Steel types just as much! It's a three-way tie.

That said, it's probably because the Psychic type was so hilariously overpowered in the first generation. :P

Quote
What is your fondest childhood memory?

Probably when the whole Pok?mon craze started, and all of a sudden, it became a common interest among people who wouldn't normally associate with each other. It was sort of a fun way to make new friends. :3

Hi Matsuri! o/

Your taste in anime is somewhat-similar to mine! Which do you prefer: Action/Adventure or Slice-of-Life/Comedy?

To be honest, the only slice-of-life I can still say I'm really fond of is Ichigo Mashimaro. Barasui just has a unique sense of humor that you don't really see anywhere else, and none of the other slice-of-life shows compare in my eyes.

I'd have to say Action/Adventure, of the two options.

Your favorite Pok?mon?

Mm, it's a split between Lilligant, Jirachi, Celebi, and Togekiss, I guess. I don't have a definite, absolute above-all favorite.

Quote
Any advice for people who want to get more involved in the MoTK community?

Don't be afraid to talk to people. They're not going to bite your head off.
Are you, in person, fluffy?

My hair kind of is, I guess. o_o

Quote
What do you want to do when you grow up?

I just wanna help people in any way I can.

Quote
What are the existential ramifications of OBJECT?

OBJECT is simply a concept of STUFF.

Which is a concept of THING.

Which is simply a part of IT.

Which is only a tiny piece of THAT.

It never ends, my friend.

List of electronics you have. Everything.

More than I'd like to bother to count. I do use my laptop and camera the most out of all of them, however. >_o

STRAWBERRY DRILLS OR STRAWBERRY SWORDS
QUICK, YOUR MASCOT NOBU'S LIFE DEPENDS ON THE ANSWER

As manly and awesome as drills are, the answer will always be swords.

So, :sword!:

music

I don't really have an absolute favorite genre/style of music, to be honest. I tend to jump around from video game soundtracks to anime OPs/EDs/OSTs to other random whatnots.

At the moment, I'm quite fond of music from the Mother/Earthbound series (since I have played through Mother 1 and will soon finish Mother 3 within about a week of each other), but I've also been listening to stuff by School Food Punishment, marble, Shoji Meguro, Rise Against, Yuki Kajiura, and Kalafina recently.

What are your opinions on the girls in Xenophilia? B)

I'm very intrigued by Hiroko's character development, and look forward to seeing what you're going to do with her in the future.

As for Sakuri... damn.  ;_______;

Are you into sports? If so, what sport do you like the most?

More fun to play, less fun to watch. That said, I don't really watch or play sports, nor would I be particularly good at them. I probably wouldn't say no to watching them or playing them if someone else wanted me to do so with them, though. I'm indifferent, I suppose.

Where would you like to live if you could escape the dread clutches of Indiana?

I've never been west of Chicago, I admit. I'd love to head that way and see what I could find. :3

Alright pal let's do this thing.

Gorbachev vs  Trotsky, no holds barred ladder match. Who wins and who loses?

I am ashamed to say that I know little more of Russian history beyond what is mentioned in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWTFG3J1CP8).

That said, Gorbachev-- simply because I was Matshail Gorbachev back when we did the commie hijack. :x

Quote
What's the deal with Indiana?

I think the sheer boredom of this place drives people into insanity-- or submission, to the point where they don't even make the effort to leave. When people say they like it here, my only response is '...why?'

Aside from that, we have corn, conservatives, construction, corn, churches, and corn. :<

Quote
Why come no Ellen manga?

Because I keep forgetting to ask how I'm supposed to properly scan it so it can be scanlated/translated/whatever. I suck. :fail:

Quote
Why I am your favorite?

Because I'm your favorite. Search your heart, for you know it's true. :smug:

Quote
Why do all these punks keep biting my style?

They just hate you 'cause they ain't you.

Quote
What's your approach to moderating a problem?

Depends on the problem. I'm online around the clock (though this is somewhat of an illusion thanks to the 15-minute login timeout, as far as time online goes, as I'm often juggling tasks, and am often just refreshing every so often to keep track of stuff, such as mod reports and threads I've been paying attention to), so I'm usually around to respond to things as quickly as possible. That said, if it's a simple offense or issue, I just fix it up as I see it. For more complex issues and problems, I tend to wait for other staffers' input before deciding what I think of it. I dislike jumping to conclusions (and I admit it's something I have a tendency to do), so I do try to wait until I at least think I can see all sides of an issue before deciding where I stand.

Quote
Have you ever fought a ferret?

When I was a little kid. Little bastard bit me. >_>

Still love 'em, though :3

Quote
Stargate?

Haven't watched it, I'm afraid.

Quote
Recommend three anime I need to watch.

Hmm.

I have no idea if you've seen them or not, but Revolutionary Girl Utena (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=207), Kaiba (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=9178), and Kuuchuu Buranko/Trapeze (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10953) come to mind. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on 'em.

Stance on vegetarianism.

I'd be a vegetarian myself if it wasn't for poultry and seafood, I suppose. Not really into any other kinds of meat.

/me shrugs.

It's all cool with me. :3

Quote
Favorite apocalypse scenario.

Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZpqRmRXEBw&feature=related)

Quote
Draw?

'fraid not. I tend to have more fun taking pictures of things instead of drawing them myself. I'm not much of an artist. :x

Quote
How many's a crowd?

It's not the number of people, it is the size of the area they are in. :P

Quote
Destroy one historical monument without ramifications, provide reasoning.

I can't think of one I'd actually want to destroy. :<

Quote
Favorite mythology.

I recall being quite fond of Greek mythology a while ago, but I have found myself more interested in the youkai, gods, and so on of Japanese folklore as well. Haven't read too much into it yet though, I'm afraid.

Quote
One actor/actress you would want to spend a day with.

Not really crazy about actors and actresses and so on, I'll admit. I'm not sure. :x

Quote

A life without fruit is no good life, sir. :<

Damn it all, I had all of my answers typed up, and I stupidly pressed Refresh instead of Preview. Argh -__-

Let's try this again.

Satori vs Koishi cagematch. Who wins?

What Satori lacks in power, she makes up for in strength of will. That said, Koishi's abilities could still prove to be very much formidable against that.

Really, I think it'd be a draw.

Quote
If you could change any historical event to have an outcome of your choosing, what would it be and why?

I had been considering such things back in my history class last semester. Like, how would the world be now if Pope Urban II had dropped dead before starting the Crusades, for example? What would have happened to Europe had the plague not killed off 1/3-1/2 of its population? Stuff like that.

Why have we not yet met up for swords and awesome?

Lack of funds and time on my end, I suppose-- and I'd never ask anyone to come and suffer in Indiana BV

Do you have some kind of object that means a lot to you?

My laptop is my connection to the world outside of the little bubble I'm more or less trapped in here. It's my connection to my closest friends, a form of entertainment, and a near-boundless source of information. It has more functions and utilities than I know what to do with, functions as a notebook that virtually never runs out of paper, and so on-- all in a tiny, compact machine that weighs approximately three pounds. *_*

Oh, and my glasses, I guess. I'm kind of useless without them.

Quote
Favourite color?

Anything with red. Red itself, purple, orange, and pink. :3

Quote
What things do you usually take pictures of?

Flowers! Once I get around to it, I'll be making a thread for my best photos.

Quote
How did you end up here?

I go wherever the wind takes me. It just happened to send me here.

Seriously though, I already answered this question. :<

Quote
Not so serious question:
What time is it?

Festival time.

All the time.

(It WAS 1:13 when I originally answered this. It is now 3:03, as I type these very words.)

What type of candy do you like? Sweet or Sour? Chewy or Crunchy?

I prefer sweet to sour, and have no preference between chewy or crunchy-- unless it comes to candy bars and whatnot, in which crunchy is preferable.

That said, I don't really eat candy much. :x

Quote
If you could choose anyone from past, present, or future and be stuck on a deserted island with them, who would it be?

Someone who I could trust with absolutely every bit of me. It would be rough being with someone I wouldn't get along very well with-- or worse, someone who has no qualms of making me an emergency meal. ._____.

Quote
Siblings?

I have one brother-- twelve years old.

Obligatory how did you become a member of staff?

Rather rapidly, I must say. I applied for Shrine Janitor in November '09, and was a Global Mod just after the April Fools' incident. I was later promoted to Admin around last September.

Technically, I'm supposed to be helping run Henrietta, Triela's sister server. However, I'm still waiting for TSO to tell me exactly what I'm supposed to be doing with that. ^^;

Quote
Obligatory so what DO you do here, what's your function?

A bit of everything, really! I still function as a Janitor, but now that we have a small army of Janitors, they tend to beat me to the punch. Most of the time, I just answer mod reports as they come up, provide input on more complex issues, and take action when necessary.

Chicken or Sea Bass?

Can't say I recall ever having sea bass before. Chicken, by default, I suppose.

Quote
Also, it's surprising that you're an Indiana resident too, because so am I! :o
Considering going to GenCon-Indy this year?
Last year had this one video game music concert. Video Games Live I think it was called. (Still pissed that they didn't have Magus' Theme in the Chrono Trigger segment...)

I did not even know about that-- but even so, not particularly :ohdear:

Quote
Baseball, Football(Soccer), Football(American), or Basketball.
Which of these sports is your game of choice?

Baseball and Football Handegg bore me to sleep. Basketball and soccer are much more interesting to watch, and I'd probably enjoy playing them more, as well.

Quote
Ever played Magic: the Gathering before?

Once or twice, with people I was hanging around with at college. They had a spare deck on hand, and let me learn to play with it. It's okay. =O

Quote
What's your D&D Alignment of choice?

I don't play D&D, but I'd probably say Chaotic/Neutral Good.

Quote
Your opinion on Text Adventures?

I haven't really looked into them, so I'd have to say I'm indifferent.

Who's got the best sword in all of Gensokyo?

Tenshi. 8)

Quote
Even been in a strawberry crisis? How about a raspberry trap?

Sure I have. Mix 'em together, and you get one of my favorite breakfast cereals, as well! :V

Quote
What would you do for the touhou of your dreams?

I can't say, in the three years I have been a Touhou fan, that I have ever had an actual Touhou-based dream. :P

Respect +++++++++++++++++++++

I've been fond of Rise Against for ages-- in fact, they're one of the very, very, very few bands I am still fond of from my angsty adolescent years. I'm rather new to Kajiura, though. Good stuff.

I will give Indiana that much-- it's much more tolerable in the city than it is in the countryside. That's not saying much, though, because there really isn't that much to see in Fort Wayne. :/

I find this difficult to answer without knowing much about world history beyond...well, the history of Western Civilization, which I took a class in last semester.

That said, I think I'll cheat on this one and say '1000 years from now'-- particularly to look at how the people a millienium ahead of us have changed, and how they view our societies, cultures, and technology-- as what is modern to us would be ancient to them.

8) Good memories.

How did your interest in shmups start? I remember you'd been playing them for a while before starting out with Touhou.

What was your favourite before you discovered Mushihimesama?

You sort of answered your own question! The first shmup to actually get me interested in the genre was, in fact, Mushihimesama. A friend of mine was a fan of the game and mentioned it once, so I looked it up to see this ridiculously complex-looking shooting game with thousands of purple bullets everywhere. From there, I was all 'I MUST PLAY THIS'. Unfortunately, it wasn't on MAME, so that friend told me to give DoDonPachi, Guwange, and ESP Ra.De. a go, instead. They were too hard for me at the time, but that didn't stop me from wanting to play Mushihimesama. I then remembered that a friend of mine had mentioned Touhou to me before, and then I realized 'hey, this kind of reminds me of Mushihimesama, but not as hard!', so I grabbed the PCB demo, and went from there. Unsurprisingly, Mushihimesama, which I obtained the PS2 port for a few months later, is my favorite arcade shmup to this day (this also extends to Futari), and PCB is my favorite Touhou game (though SA, MS, and PoDD are more or less tied for my favorite as well, depending on my mood).

Out of all the words in all languages, which one is your favorite word?

It's as cheesy as can be, but it doesn't make it any less truthful. "Love".

I would argue that the power of love is already an element of the power of friendship, and occasionally, in the power of believing in yourself. Therefore, I say the power of love is the essence of both of the latter options, and is the most powerful of the three.

As you've said you're an optimist, what would you say to someone who's a pessimist?

Life just isn't long enough to spend your days being negative about everything. Yes, life isn't perfect. Yes, shit happens, and it will keep happening. We've all been there, done that, got the t-shirt. It sucks-- we all know-- and it's okay to be down about things when bad things happen. I'm not the kind of person who says there are silver linings in every situation, and I'm not the type to say optimism is just thinking positive. Optimism, if you ask me, is not simply looking on the bright side, it is trying to be a light that shines to make things bright.

If you had to live in a pre-Enlightenment (or regional equivalent) society, where would you live and why?

Mmmm... ancient Greece might be kind of neat (though as for why, I'm not sure). Maybe Renaissance-era Italy, for art and culture? Or go way, way back and see what society was like back in Mesopotamia or something. I don't know for sure!

Less serious answer: Take me back to the Mesozoic era. I will tame dinosaurs and make them all my companions, crushing, thrashing, or maiming anything that stands in our way. 8)

Quote
What is your idea of a relaxing vacation?

Hmm. I'd either love to be surrounded by nature with as little human construction in it as possible (a private island, maybe?) (the more flowers, the better!), or go to a big city and explore, enjoying whatever interesting stores or restaurants I could come across. Having a close friend tag along would be ideal, as well. :3

What's the best hairstyle for a girl? For a guy?

I don't really have that much of a preference for either, really, beyond the fact that I find long hair to be more attractive in general. That said, it depends on the person, since what would look great on one person could look really awkward on someone else. Whatever the person in question wears with the most confidence is best, I suppose. :P
