What's the story behind rdj?

Do you predict Purvis will ask "why am I your favorite?"

What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done? By the same token, what's your proudest moment?

:smug:

What's the story behind rdj?

When I was little, and discovered the internet for the first time, I wanted my mom to help me register for Neopets. Her suggestion was to first make an e-mail address that was easy for me to remember, and suggested using things I already knew. I ended up going with rdj522 -- a combination of my initials and my birthday, February 52nd May 22nd. I've stuck with that ever since.

Do you predict Purvis will ask "why am I your favorite?"

Yes.

What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done? By the same token, what's your proudest moment?

The most embarrassing thing I've ever done... First thing to come to mind is during my junior year of high school, when a good female friend of mine had baked me some cheesecake bites with a chocolate-chip crust. I tried one, and noticed that they were a bit burnt on the crust side. Being the (sometimes brutally) honest person I am, I told her that.

She wouldn't speak to me for the rest of the week, and I felt both sheepish and miserable about it.

As for my proudest moment, it'd have to be the accomplishment of graduating in the top 1% of my high school class. Frankly, I think I should have been lower, since quite a few of the people "below" me had displayed quite a bit more knowledge of the world, particularly in politics. Still, it was amazing to be up there with the best of them when we received our diplomas.

Reason for GC?

I was raised Nintendo, so there you go.

</missing the point of the question>

Your work?

Full-time student.

Snowdens of Yesteryear?

Back of the plane.

your waifu

wouldn't you like to know

The obligatory "Who is your favorite touhou?" question.

Patchouli. Always has been.

The obligatory "How awesome am I?" question.

I applied for SJ way back when, asking if there was a way I could help out the board. After a while, I forgot about it until SUDDENLY GREEN EVERYWHERE :o

Oh and where the hells my food im hungry jesus christ

Please wait 30 to 35 minutes for delivery.

Favorite obligatory question?

"What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?"

If you stopped slacking on things, what would be the first thing you'd get around to doing?

If I had been asked this at the start of this week, I'd have replied that I would get my assignment for my communications class out of the way early so that the rest of the week could be used to relax. Since yesterday, however, I've been more concerned with how I can help people, in whatever manner I can.

Because Kogasa.

Would you say its acceptable to use MySQL, or do REAL MEN use REAL SQL?

REAL MEN drink POWERSQL!

Really, though, I can't answer the question as I only know Java.

What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen pelican?

Depends on what type of fish it has in its mouth, as well as whether it's African or European.

Ahh yes, RDJ!

What is your favorite kind of activity?

What have you pooled the most time into?

What would you say was one of your more difficult trials that you had to face?

Everythings gone FUBAR. Two of your ships' generators have gone out, weapons disabled, communications down, remaining power diverted to the shields. Only four out of the ten engines are still online. Your crew is panicking. There is a planet not too far off, whether it has an environment capable of life and the oxygen needed for you and your crew's survival is unknown. In front of you is the mechanism that can possibly thrust your engines forward but will dwindle the power within your shields. If you take no action you have ten minutes until your ship's inevitable destruction. What do you do!?

Why am I better than Ammy?

Because you've got hobo power.

How'd a small town girl like you get mixed up in this crazy kibosh?

I wanted to learn how to use Danmakufu shortly after being introduced to Touhou, and began searching for resources. I came across the Danmakufu wiki, which was connected to this site. The rest just fell into place.

If you could change one thing around here, what would it be?

I'm honestly not sure. Things seem to work fine around here as is, from what I've seen.

Why I am your favorite?

Yes.

Shoplifting?

I think shops are typically too heavy for that.

Is it permissible to chuck woodchucks?

Only if they've chucked their wood quota first.

What is your favorite kind of activity?

Sitting somewhere quiet and either reading or doing something else on my own. I'm starting to rethink whether I actually like doing so recently, however...

What have you pooled the most time into?

There's an RP forum I joined when I was relatively new to the internet, based on Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. There's still a handful of people there, myself included, even though the head admin left forever ago due to life issues.

What would you say was one of your more difficult trials that you had to face?

Suffice it to say that I developed some *ahem* natural male curiosity prior to high school. And then acted on it. >_>

Took a bit for me to regain my parents' trust after that, and it had also been interfering with my grades. Also, for those who know me better than others, this is also the reason I primarily use Safebooru -- to keep that from happening again.

If waiting will do no good, there is no way to go but forward. To that planet!

If you could dine at any establishment, assuming price/location/companions/meal times aren't a problem, where would you go?

I'd really like to go to Pappadeaux (http://www.pappadeaux.com/home/) again sometime, if only because I really like seafood. If that's not an option, pretty much any sit-down restaurant is fine with me.

Okay, so who is your least favorite Touhou character?

This used to be Orin for quite a while, based solely on her difficulty when I was trying to 1cc SA Normal (still haven't). Now I'm not sure who it is.

What's your preferred way to deal with stress?

I deal with stress by trying to play games or watch videos that I know will make me laugh under normal conditions, while at the same time trying to pretend nothing's wrong. I've gotten fairly bad at that recently.

Any favourite manga/anime?

I haven't read very many manga at all, so I don't really have an opinion there. Similarly, there are so many anime I haven't watched due to time constraints as well as "...eh, there are other things I can do" that my current favorite of Ika Musume would probably change if I started watching more.

And outside of that, favourite books and movies?

My favorite book...tough decision. ...I keep thinking of Brave New World for some reason, even though the entire premise of it is depressing.

As for movies, I don't watch too many of them these days. Out of my childhood favorites, it'd have to the The Wizard of Oz. By far.

Which real-life person is your idol?

(Not American Idol, I mean someone you actually look up to in nigh-reverence)

Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Despite his less popular decisions before AND during World War II (court-packing plan, Japanese internment, etc.), he was able to hold a nation in shambles together with his New Deal policies until the war kick-started the economy again. It takes a true leader to make the most out of a situation like that.

I know a Charlie from somewhere, but I don't think I've ever wanted to jump on his skull.

Maybe if he was a football player.

If you took a girl out on a date in your city, where would you go?

About the only interesting places in my city are sit-down restaurants. Of those, Chili's (http://www.chilis.com) is probably where I'd pick.

Have you ever read Rurouni Kenshin?

Not yet (
I am anticipating pain in my future :<
), but I plan to when I start catching up with everyone's favorite stuff.

What is the last good book you've read?

Candide takes that spot. It's probably one of the few books that's made me change my viewpoint on something (naive optimism, in this case). It's fine to believe that things will turn out for the best, as long as you recognize the work that needs to be done to make it that way.

What is your favorite crustacean?

Sebastian from The Little Mermaid.

How long have you spend considering the prior question? Do you feel guilty about this?

Longer than it should have. I apologize.

What was the worst problem the forums ever had to deal with?

The fallout from the April Fool's Day incident seemed pretty bad to me. I haven't been here long enough to see some of the other issues from the forum's past.

Have you ever had a girlfriend? Plz elaborate, regardless of positive or negative.

No. ...Not quite sure how you want me to elaborate on this, but I think I can hazard a guess.

The first person I can say I really "liked," I met during my sophomore year of high school, in my choir class. We had a mutual friend, so we at least knew each other at first. Then, one day as we were heading to a competition, she received a phone call telling her that her grandmother had passed away. She literally broke down on the spot, which is quite understandable, but something in me decided "hey, I'm going to be there for her through this, and then possibly afterward".

That...didn't really pan out, as she showed no interest in me and eventually became increasingly irritated at my attempts to become better friends with her -- and with me being as oblivious as I was, said mutual friend had to directly tell me that she wasn't interested. As far as I know, I've severely damaged what friendship there was (if there was) with that girl.

Since then, there have been crushes that have come and gone, but I didn't act on most of them, fearing that the same thing would happen. However, at one point I was so distraught with trying to hide a crush from another friend that I decided telling her would be better than just letting it ferment. My fears were proven wrong -- while she said she couldn't answer yes or no, she assured me that we would still be friends regardless. I am perfectly fine with that arrangement.

tl;dr - No, I haven't ever had one, but I'm okay with that.

You sayin' I like dudes?

You like Galuf, don't you?

Do you have a favorite sport you keep up with?

At some time in the past, I'd keep up with soccer, but not so much anymore.

A favorite sport / physical activity to play?

Walking. Everywhere.

Have you decided on a major?  What do you enjoy about this subject?

I am currently a CS major at the University of Texas at Dallas (as Flashtirade mentioned earlier). I've been using computers since I was in elementary school, and it's interesting to learn how they work and how you can program them to do certain kinds of work.

What is your favourite type of genre(s) for music? Do you play any instruments?

I don't really have a favorite; I'll listen to it as long as it isn't death metal or modern rap.

As for instruments, I really like the piano.

Intelligent question or humorous question with no real point?

Both have their merits. Intelligent questions may take a while to answer, but they grant a bit of insight into the person being asked; the point of humorous questions should be obvious.

Where would you live in Gensokyo?

Assuming I could get hired on there, probably the SDM so I could hang out in the library. Otherwise, probably the human village because I logically couldn't survive anywhere else.

Who would win in a sword fight: Youmu or Tenshi?

Youmu, because the things Roukanken can't cut a(ry

Unfortunately, no. The University of Texas at Austin has a monopoly on those.

All we get here are whooshing comets.

Powerglove vs Minibosses. Elaborate.

Powerglove because I haven't heard of Minibosses before. I shall have to research this.

What superpower would you have?

I want to say telepathy, but that would probably make me more of a nosy person than I already am. Therefore, I'll have to go with natural regeneration. I'd still expire just like everyone else, but I wouldn't have to worry about illnesses or injuries.

D&D Alignment?

Never tested myself, but I think I'd be Neutral Good or True Neutral.

What's up with those questions xD

Hey, if they're there, I answer them unless I feel like I'd be shooting myself in the foot doing so.

One thing you wish to do in your life?

I want to program vidja gaems. Regardless of whether that pans out, I'd like to at least have someplace I can call home that isn't in Texas. It's too hot here.

Do you see yourself as a lucky person? explain with at least one revelant example :3

Yes. The example: everyone here. I am very lucky to have known you all, and hope to continue knowing you all.

When was the last time you received a handwritten letter?

At the end of my freshman year of college, from one of my roommates. He essentially thanked me for being a good roommate and wished me luck with the rest of college. Waking up to see the letter on my floor made my day.

No on all counts.

What's the wildest college party you've been to?

Parties in college? Surely you jest. BV

</nerd>

If you could take any Touhou girl on a date, who would it be?

Kogasa, perhaps. Imagine how effective two people would be at pranking!

If someone were to throw a toaster at you, how would you feel and how would you respond to them?

I'd appreciate the gesture, but probably give it back because I have no room in my dorm room to put a toaster.

Would it be acceptable to pronounce "rdj" like "Reggie"?

Sure, why not? I pronounce it letter by letter, personally.

Have you ever been brought to tears by a sandwich?

Nope.

How much would you cuddle a sleeping Komachi?

Probably not much. Shikieiki would take it the wrong way if she dropped by.

Why did you leave the Garage :(

I'm just not good at Danmakufu. I lack the creativity needed to make good scripts, and the things I *did* come up with...well, you saw how badly I did in the contests. :<

Wiimote, PSMove or Kinect?

I can't really speak for the Move since I've never seen it outside of videos, but the Kinect seems to have far more possible applications than the Wiimote does.

Can't speak for the PS3, having never owned one.

In my opinion, the 360 has too many FPS games, while the Wii doesn't have enough RPGs. Hmm...I dunno.

Yep!

I think I have enough trouble understanding exactly how to calculate electromagnetic forces to worry about string theory just yet. x_x

White or dark mystiaeat?

Dark. Tends to be a little juicier.

Rare or well-done?

Given the choice between the two, well-done. If it's a scale, I'd go with medium well just to ensure it's not burnt anywhere.

If Shikieiki did drop by, couldn't you solve it by cuddling said yama?

Cuddling does not solve all problems, I'm sad to say.

That is a very bad idea. As such, no.

Kogasa or Yuka?

Kogasa.

Again, Youmu. Momiji makes up for it by having the best shield ever.

Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd or Metallica?

Pink Floyd.

Do you have a job? If so, what is it?

Nein.

Shiki is now the ruler of the world, and you're her right hand. She gives the first move to you. What do you do?

Pawn to E5.

Absolutely! Unfortunately, outside of my mom's cooking, I haven't had any high-quality noodle dishes lately.

oh God conditional tense ;_;

I have trouble with "lo" and knowing where to use it, as well as how to properly word sentences in the imperfect tense. I never really dealt with future and conditional tenses when I was learning it, and I only spent three years taking classes, so it's probably deteriorated by a lot.

What's you're favorite part of the modding job? Conversely, least favorite?

My favorite part is just the fact that I'm able to help keep things clean. I'm at my happiest if I'm useful to at least one person.

My least favorite part...probably that I don't know exactly where lines are drawn for particular things, so I'm not sure how to proceed with certain scenarios.

Keine because my history knownedge is lacking.

Shinki.

Which touhou girl would you want as your own shikigami?

Don't shikigami have to be less powerful than the ones they serve?

How many licks does it take to get the center of  Tootsie Roll pop?

I actually tried this once; I think I counted 400-something.

Texas, right? Born and raised, or just a college boy?

Born in Plano, raised in Wylie.

How much experience do you have with firearms, and what is your preference in them?

The one time I've fired a gun, it was a fairly high-caliber pistol. I didn't lock my elbows and ended up whacking myself in the forehead with the recoil.

Haven't fired one since.

If you could go to anywhere on the world, where would you go?

If I had to pick just one place, probably Paris, France. Why? The food.

Depends on what goes wrong. I've got a good idea of what to do if I mess up in a game or if I accidentally make someone angry at me, but for serious issues like, say, a death in the family? I don't quite know how I would cope with that. :ohdear:

Only when I've taken a full dose of allergy medicine. I can sleep like a rock if I've done that (though I really don't want to).

Do you live near a wooded area?

There's an area off to the east that has a lot of trees, but I wouldn't exactly call it wooded. There's quite a few people who live down that way, as well as this city's second high school.

Have any pets?

aaaa tough questions :ohdear:

Ideally I'd try to find a way to save two or more, but since that's not an option, Ruro.

YOU ARE STUCK IN A SUBMARINE THAT CANNOT SURFACE! THE AIR CYCLERS ARE BUSTED! One person must walk out of the airlock so the others will not asphyxiate. You have been asked to choose; you yourself cannot be chosen because you're the only one who knows how to run the sub. Who will it be? Pesco, Ruro, HakuSm, Kofi Annan, Nelson Mandela, or Nobu?

Pesco because he can breathe-hax underwater anyway. It's an implied ability.

What kind of dogs do you have?

I'm honestly not sure what the first one is, but he's very affectionate. As in, if you let him jump on you, he will try to kiss you.

The second is a minpin with a Napoleon complex, it seems.

The third is a Husky mix we inherited from some family friends when they moved to Africa. She's very old and may be losing her hearing.

Can you get them to do any tricks?

No.

If your dogs became youkai, what would you do?

I guess I'd be learning how to dodge bullets!

What is your opinion on video game reviewers such as IGN or GI, when neither can play games outside of shooters well? (I've seen this in person, apparently they dont know how to pluck pikmin in brawl with a GC controller ololololololo)

What do you think is the greatest thing about life?

The fact that there are people like all of you out there.

The worst?

The fact that in some places, suffering is allowed to occur unchecked.

Colon Vee?

Being able to play things other than shooters would help such reviewers be more unbiased.

What's your favorite animal?

If it isn't already a youkai in touhou, would you like to see it make an appearance?

What would it's ability be?

Giant video game royale with every video game character goes about and you can have a 3 way MvC style team.

Of all the video game characters out there, who would you choose?

Who would you take with you during a zombie invasion?

A party of foolish adventurers have stumbled into your lair and have challenged you to a battle. What theme do they suddenly hear as the battle goes about?

Finally, upon reading this part of the question, your left foot fires a laser! What is the damage report!?

Of all the video game characters out there, who would you choose?

Admiral Bobbery from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Sheena from Tales of Symphonia, and the spiked falling ceiling from Tetris Plus.

Explosive power from the first, speed and summons from the second, and an "I win" button from the third. 8)

Who would you take with you during a zombie invasion?

I'm honestly not sure, but we'd have to stick together for sure to get out of it alive.

If it isn't already a youkai in touhou, would you like to see it make an appearance?

What would its ability be?

Iku is a fish of sorts.

Kiss, hug or handshake?

Depends on how well I know the person. If not very well, handshake; else, hug. I have yet to find someone IRL that I'd greet with a kiss.

IN THIS CORNER, WEIGHING IN AT 82 POUNDS, ONE OF THE FOUR DEVAS OF THE MOUNTAIN AND MOOCHER AT THE HAKUREI SHRINE, SUIKAAAAAAA IBUUUUUUUKIIIIIII!

AND IN THIS CORNER, WEIGHING IN AT 147 POUNDS, ANOTHER DEVA OF THE MOUNTAIN, PROTECTOR OF FORMER HELL AND ROLLER OF MOOKS, YUUGIIIIIIII HOSHIGUUUUUMAAAAAAAA!

All right, ladies, this will be a ten-round match; if one of you isn't KOed by the end of the tenth, the winner will be decided by the judges. ...Assuming they are still alive. Ready...FIGHT!!

Do you remember the Alamo?

Nah. It's not like any rough-and-tumble frontiersmen with coonskin caps died there.

Why RDJ?

When I was little, and discovered the internet for the first time, I wanted my mom to help me register for Neopets. Her suggestion was to first make an e-mail address that was easy for me to remember, and suggested using things I already knew. I ended up going with rdj522 -- a combination of my initials and my birthday, February 52nd May 22nd. I've stuck with that ever since.

Is it Miller Time?

Nope. (http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Ice-cold_Willer)

Did you see Lily? (Yay, first day of spring!)

No, but I did see some potential allergy problems. :(

Do you believe in fairies?

No. They're an interesting concept, though, and if they did exist, I wouldn't complain.

Drunk Touhou, Drunk Left4Dead or Drunk GTAIV?

theshim.

Enough said.

Probably still drunk Touhou.

This hinges on me actually getting drunk, though, which will be illegal for the next year or so unless I'm in my parents' presence. I don't like the taste of alcohol anyhow.

Snivy, Cyndaquil, Piplup.

Star.

Tornado, Typhoon, or Blizzard?

ANYTHING BUT TYPHOON. I hate that weather so much in SWR/Soku ;_;

Do you Hate-tate?

Hatate's pretty cool.

Sniper rifle. I'd have an interesting time being able to aim any of those, much less shoot them, though.

What's your preferred method of celebrating special occasions?

Which tastes better: Extra crispy, or original recipe Mystia?

What's it like to have the strongest thread?

Ammy's is still by far the strongest, as far as I know.

What's your preferred method of celebrating special occasions?

Actually socializing! Even more so if there's food.

Which tastes better: Extra crispy, or original recipe Mystia?

why would you cook Mystia :<

Also, sorry for being the "stop having fun guys" guy, but let's make the questions more serious for the little time this thread has left.

Alright, but I'm still putting in at least one funny question. :P
Think you'll ever travel across the world?
What's the one place in the world you would like to see the most, and why?
Which touhou girl would make the best travel companion?
Title: Re: Ask a Staffer Ep. 5 - rdj

Think you'll ever travel across the world?

Hopefully. Some of the people I'd like to visit live outside the US, and I've wanted to see some different countries regardless.

What's the one place in the world you would like to see the most, and why?

London, England's always sounded pretty good to me. I think Big Ben has something to do with it, but I'm not totally sure.

Which touhou girl would make the best travel companion?

Either Keine or Akyu, both for the same reason: they probably know much more about foreign places than I do.

And with that, I think it's time to bring this to a close. As promised, here are the questions from the Skype folks. (http://pastebin.com/GE9sk2Yd) I hope you all enjoyed this session of Ask a Staffer, and the next one should be up soon!
