Anime/Manga Misc. Thread, Volume 3~
« on: June 13, 2010, 05:11:14 PM »
Old thread hit 1000 posts.

Quoted for the new thread:

@Ghaleon:
Oh, there's really no drama in Azumanga or IchiMashi. :P

You said Nanoha wasn't girly enough for you? Try my all-time favorite, Cardcaptor Sakura. <3

If you want josei, I definitely recommend Nodame Cantabile and Honey and Clover.

Maria-sama ga Miteru
Honey and Clover
Nodame Cantabile
Kimi ni Todoke

In no particular order, are the greatest shoujo/josei works ever penned.

Why Nodame Cantabile isn't on DVD here in the US yet is mystifying to me.

Oh! I forgot Tokyo Marble Chocolate too. It's nice and short with 2 episodes, and the animation quality is absolutely gorgeous as well.

Kimi ni Todoke

This starts out fine enough, but after a few episodes I sort of became exhausted with how any time someone would so much as say "Hi" to this girl, she'd flip out into some long reverie about "Oh my god she said Hi to me?!?!?! What?!?!?! This never happens!!! I am so happy right now !!!!" ... every single time. I felt it sort of blocked the flow of the story in many ways, which was a shame, because there were some great plotlines in there (the rumors one springs to mind).

"Human history and growth are both linked closely to strife. Without conflict, humanity would have no impetus for growth. When humans are satisfied with their present condition, they may as well give up on life."

You said Nanoha wasn't girly enough for you? Try my all-time favorite, Cardcaptor Sakura. <3

I actually almost did try it actually, I remember you mentioning it in some thread or another before and was considering it. I did a bit of research on both series' and found out that Nanoha was supposedly more adult-oriented (in a non-nasty way). Furthermore I read that the english version was quite a bit different from the original Japanese version, or something. I forget.

Am I supposed to hunt for the Japanese version with subtitles or the English one? Assuming I try it at all, I'm probably going to try other suggestions first when I get the time, I should try a non magical-girl series next I think.

Anyway thanks for the help so far everyone.

Oh god, get the Japanese version, for your own sake. The English version of Cardcaptor Sakura was brutally butchered.

Hey, some dubs are good.  Superlatively rarely, you find one that's superior to the original Japanese, but there are a few that match it in quality, at least.
