Title: [Art][HJD]Red_Herring's storage for various doodling
Post by: [HJD]Red_Herring on February 27, 2011, 05:34:10 AM
Hello, this is [HJD]Red_Herring and I am creating this thread for the support I have received. No, seriously, it bring joyous tears to my eyes. Heck, this is most responsive board I have come across. So, I am going to post whatever work I have done with some comments. Also, I am a total newb in this board, which means I may not be familiar with the formats and those tags. So, I will be asking some suggestions to make this thread more enjoyable; please be kind to answer them, and that will be something. The below is a list of basic rules.

1. Any comment is welcome. Even 'LOL, ur works is total garbage' kind of comment is taken, but at least prove it to me.

2. Feel free to upload your works; it could be a stroke of inspiration to others.

3. As a student struggling with university life, the update will be very irregular.

4. You may ask for an image, but I may also ask you for an image in return.

Now, enough of words. Here is another work which was done about 2 years ago.

(http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/8523/makeminechoppedunedital.th.jpg) (http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/makeminechoppedunedital.jpg)

Took that took me some hours. Done on a legal-sized paper with HB pencil and 2B mechanical pencil. Shit, those last 2 years feel like a week ago.

Yo I think you messeg up the thumbnail

Also for christ's sake people don't use imageshack
That place suddenly decided I can't see stuff anymore and I don't even know why

Oh, and your name has a tag *in* it, so I came in here thinking [HJD] was a tag and wondering what the heck is it

Hang on a sec, isn't there is some sort of rule of keeping pictures 400x400? If not, here is the larger version:

http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/makeminechoppedunedital.jpg (http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/makeminechoppedunedital.jpg)

And about [HJD], that is not a tag. It is the initial for my name in those brackets. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Anyway, is Photobucket any better?

ps. How can I show smaller thumbnails while retaining the original size?
Title: Re: [Art][HJD]Red_Herring's storage for various doodling
Post by: MatsuriSakuragi on February 27, 2011, 06:12:38 AM
640x480 is the size limit.

As for thumbnails, most image uploading sites will give you forum thumbnail links that you can post, and clicking it will display the full size image, and so on.

However, from my past experience, it seems that Photobucket likes to resize images that it considers to be too large, which can mess up the quality of your image-- so I don't recommend using it for large pictures.

If you want to make your own, however, simply make a smaller image by hand, and link it like this:
Code: [Select]
[url=insert url of full size image here][img]insert url of thumbnailed image here[/img][/url]

I think I can fix the thumbnail in your first post, too. Hold on.

EDIT: There, that should do it.

Holy smokes.

Your shading skills. I want it.

It just takes time, nothing special. Here is few of techniques I learned:

1. Rough textile - take HB grade mechanical pencil and cross-hatch. Grab the pencil in bit of high angle.

2. Smooth textile - same deal as rough, but add a layer of 2B pencil shading.

3. Leather, Latex - same deal as smooth textile, but add 4B pencil shading and finish by smudging with Q-tips. For Latex, add another step of highlighting with an eraser.

4. Metal - same deal as Latex, but the contrast is higher. For serrated metal add cross hatching layer of HB pencil

5. Liquid - 2B shading, grab the pencil at low angle. Finish with Q-tips.

Thanks, but I have long way to go. Just taking a hard look in Danbooru and that is good enough put me into shame.

I hope you can do digital art :V

Feel the wrath of the combination of MS Paint and a mouse! Just kidding.

Well, I am still kicking and alive and that is good enough.

Papers and exams are almost over. Seriously, biochemistry kills you or turns you into an alcoholic. Trust me on this, for I was liquored and spilled some drink over the piece I was working on. Obviously, I was frustrated. That Byakuren was coming along nicely, and it's a goner now.

So, instead of presenting you people with a just-off-from-the-scanner piece, I will post the old works from 2007 - 2009.

(http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/th_progress_maybe.jpg) (http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/?action=view&current=progress_maybe.jpg)

Hope you realize that you should not jump-start when drawing; learn the basic first or you will have bad habits like me. Those who think they suck, I'd say that is just an excuse. If a bastard with skewed vision can pick up a pencil and draw, then you should be able to draw. So, I would say instead of moaning and whining, practicing will worth your while 100 times more.

I usually draw over the weekend while doing fast (15 minutes at max) during the weekdays. In this way, I would have less chance of screwing up.

Now, about me being patient is largely dependent on amount of alcohol consumed. Seriously, everything looks better after 6-7 pints of good, cold beer or bottle and half of whiskey.

This one, in particular, took about 3-4 hours with 4-5 shots of bourbon. However, sometimes it pisses me off since amount of time is not proportional to the quality of work. In this respect, my so-called patience

could be described as a mild symptom of masochism.

lol careful. That sounds like a lot.

Naw, that is still a good amount of time to spend on one piece! I usually stop wanting to work on mine after 3 hours and try to finish asap. That usually leads to a lot of messy strokes and botches of paint everywhere. :c

Sorry about the lack of update.

I was suffering from lack of motivation, increase in frustration and good load of school works on the side. You know, the usual.

Spent about 35 minutes on the sketch, hope I did not fall out from the drawing groove.

ps. I am free until the first week of April, which means I would be able to draw on commission. First come, first serve up to FIVE people.

ps2. You can have any kind of image as long as it is done with pencils.

Too much praise...can't be ignored...must draw more.

But no, seriously, I am just a doodler. Look at my works which are just simple pencil works, or bastard children of inefficient time expenditure mixed with bad composition.

Now, you have good eye for coloring which I will never have. Keep on going, I really do enjoy seeing your works.

A lot of stuff happened in real life and now, I finally take some breather.

So, if you think why the hell he is reviving this crap, the answer is because I can. (Insert evil laugh)

Anyway, have a drawing. 1 hour 15 minutes of procrastination.

Now, another academic year is over for me. Hopefully, I will be satisfied with my results. Until then, it's time for updates.

The image is commissioned by an acquaintance, and still is incomplete. Blame my lack of enthusiasm and motivation (even though I will eventually finish the damn thing) but hey, cut me some slack.

Seriously, those who work with digital media, I salute all you magnificent bastards. The Combination of SAI and 5 year old mouse is a good recipe for sore fingers or maybe I just suck with digital media.

Suffered from lack of motivation and an artist's block (by God, I hate that term). Anyhow, another attempt at the resurrection of this thread; nothing fancy but just me and my pencil.

(http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/th_2011_05_20003.png) (http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/?action=view&current=2011_05_20003.png)

Heck, I follow your thread. Now, my thread is something that everybody SHOULD AVOID.

Anyway, I can see gradual improvement and that alone is enough can make me jealous of you. However, I feel your drawings are not 'planted'; your figures look unstable and  are not mapped out. Maybe

it is just me going crazy and green with envy.
A little excerpt from my art thread, and I thought that I should bring it up here...

I'm looking at your work here, and I wonder where the heck this jealousy comes from. Your work is incredibly good, and detailed well beyond work of my own. Your pencil work is something I wish I was capable of doing. And then there's that coloured Suika there! You sir, have no right to be jealous.  :wat:

If I come off as a jealous jerk, it's only because I am. I request more of this fine work!

Alright, I know I am a lazy sod with bad organization skill. However, it is not my fault; it is summer and beer on the porch just tastes damn good. Part-time job and other personal matters look more promising

when the weather is just downright gorgeous. Anyway, to those who are wondering why this bastard takes such long time to do one of his lousy work, read on.

Step 01. Rough drawing: this is for materializing your thoughts. Lay down few skeleton figures and look for its composition, balance and other things.

(http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/th_2011_06_08_Step_01.png) (http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/?action=view&current=2011_06_08_Step_01.png)

Step 02. First layer of shading. Start from the darker area with a HB pencil.

(http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/th_2011_06_08_Step_02.png) (http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/?action=view&current=2011_06_08_Step_02.png)

Step 03. Clean up messy parts, give second layer of shading and other details

(http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/th_2011_06_08_Step_03.png) (http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/?action=view&current=2011_06_08_Step_03.png)

Step 04. Finish off the drawing. Scan the damn thing and be done with it.

(http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/th_2011_06_08_Step_04.png) (http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/?action=view&current=2011_06_08_Step_04.png)

ps. Those who requested an image, they are coming. Be more patient and I'll make the wait worthwhile.

Alright, one more requested image down, and three more to go: a Meirin, a Nazrin, and a Satori. How the hell did I get myself into this mess?

Ah, hell with it, I like drawing and that matters the most. Second try in coloring with SAI tool and a mouse. Sketch done by hand and damn it, big sized picture makes my 6 year old laptop scream and whine.

(http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/th_Half_Scale.png) (http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee492/Burning_Mutt/?action=view&current=Half_Scale.png)

To those who realize the resolution is not right, go to Pooshlmer to see the original size.
