Instead of dumping all my crap at one time into a topic that isn't mine like a jerk, I decided to start my own topic! How scary~ :ohdear:
So I'll try to update this frequently as possible.

Anyways, let's start off with stuff in colo(u)r~
So, the scanner just butchered the color on this. It's supposed to be brighter.

So since I was so far ahead of everyone else in my Art class, my teacher said I could present a tutorial on anything I want. So that following week, I presented a tutorial on how I color everything from skin to clothes to hair as well. This is the final result. I'm really proud of this one~!

Yeah, I've noticed that too.
In my opinion, I think that her eyes are level horizontally, but her face is tilted.

The remi is very nice.

There are two versions that I had to do for my class.
The one you see is coloring with different shades of colors, the other with the dodge and burn tool in Photoshop. But this one looks much nicer.

The clothes are a little stiff though, but I'm sure it's something you can improve with practice.

Some criticism: the torsos on them touhous look a little too thin, even for manga. I think making it slightly thicker would make it look better. I hope that helps!

There's something a bit off about Eiki, but Nue makes up for it what with the background and extra fluff about.

Shape-wise, your work is decent.
Shading... I really see no problems, but since I don't like colour shading I can't really judge that myself.
I like the line style and thickness. It flows greatly.

Bit of practice and some tutorials, really. I used to be scared shitless of eyes, but with just a little research I found they're not that misterious.
Also Aoshi, what the hell do you see wrong with your shading? I think it's p awesome. Unlike mine, that has no originality whatsoever.

Excluding Yuuka, I tried a different way to coloring the hair. I.E. Slapping in a bunch of colors, take the smudge tool at 70% and see what shit happens.

Errors, I believe, are perfectly fine when sketching. The more practice, the better.

A block crisis usually passes over soon. If you keep thinking about it, ideas and work will spark in your mind; and you'll start moving again.

Minor anatomy problems, I just suck at drawing children.
I'm also having difficulty on showing where my character's hips are like my dad keeps saying, any suggestions?

Definitely practice drawing some female figures. Back when I was still drawing, the hips would start out as a triangle pointing up, meeting the triangle pointing down that forms the shoulders and torso. And I'd try to draw the little butterfly shape of the pelvis over that so I'd get an idea of how to form the hips and legs on top of that...
I'm sorry, I'm not much of an artist anymore, I wish I could offer more help than that

Aoshishi! That Stocking is fabulous :* I really like the shading, especially on the clothes and hair. Two pieces of criticism I would have are that the skin tones are a bit off (not quite Zombie Reimu but somewhere in between), and that the line separating the blue from the pink on the left side looks oddly smudged.

Yeaahhh... strangely I've been doing that with the skin a lot lately. :/
I use the smudge tool in Photoshop to create the highlights/shading in the hair, so that might explain the smudges. Thanks for pointing that out though.

So, what is it you were trying to do with Flash to help with quality? I sorta toyed around with it until I learned sprite-based graphics for a game would be absurdly impractical.

It is a bit frustrating that the demo for TH13 is postponed as my hands were itching to control Youmu. However, it is more tragic to see that radiation control is not going greatly in Japan. Hope
they can get it sorted out soon. Anyway, Judging from the Kasen piece, I am assuming you are right-handed. Kudos to you for having guts to step out from the comfort zone. Once you get used to
it, whole lot of possibilities for future works will open up. Keep up the good work.

I like how the second work deliberately misplaced things here and there. It is always a good idea to experiment with illustration styles and techniques, so I'd love to see more of these from anyone.

Aww... damn it, I was wrong.
Just don't bother with shading with pencil; shading with pencil is just a really time-consuming work. Plus, that TH13 piece would not exude same feeling without being little messy.
Seriously, some people may find it therapeutic, but I find it pain-staking and should be reserved for gluttons for punishments like me. Also, the process literally eats through erasers.
Now, where is my motivation...

I really can put my finger on it, but the shading gives the texture of hair is closer to that of polished metal. I'd tone down the highlight and decrease the contrast between each shade of color used.
That's just my thought. Hope it did not offend you in anyway.

Oh, I think that's because the shadow or the bottom of the ball is too dark. I'll fix that later.

Ah, yes...armpits in which the faith is gathered. Now, the world is a better place.
All jokes aside, it is nicely done and you are getting hang of figure drawing for sure. The current drawing gives the feeling that Reimu has unusually shaped rib cage, and that curve is the reason.
So, I would give some tweaks on the torso line connecting to the armpit area. Keep those drawings coming!

You've improved a heck of a lot since I last checked, Aoshi! All-around, even :) The jealous-of-reimupits sanae pic was a really good lineart, the lines seem so cleanly done. Looked at more in older pages of the thread, its very nice~
Some feedback of that Ellen:
I love the look and style you're using, and the use of folds is good! ^_^ The only problem I see here is that the lower legs are a little bit too short, proportionally. Evening it up a with her upper legs can make it look better. Looking at the realistic-art reference material I have, the lower leg isn't supposed to look any longer than the upper, unless drawn from the side. Though they do look quite different from there :P
Her right hand's ring and pinky seem oddly merged. that little line that I suppose shows where they bend is noticeably disconnected from the base parts, making it look like a stray line. Connecting those (and not having it stray onto the dress) would fix it, if I'm right.

Laminating those sound like a good idea. The one that I printed out for the picture and for Tekkoshocon ripped clean in half when I was going down the stairwell once. (Someone returned the other half on the last day.) :V

Odd that Reisen and Tewi's outfits are more saturated in colour now. Plus Reisen's shirt seems to have a bit too much contrast and maybe not enough graduation between the tones. Just saying.

As usual, your drawings worth the waiting period. You really have a good pair of eyes for catching the atmosphere of your drawing. That's a talent and there is no other word to describe it.
However, I feel awkward when I see that Marisa piece. The position of her butt gives the feeling of her butt being in front of the broom rather than being on the broom. Give some thoughts about it.

Then why not take revenge? Draw a 'beaten up' Marisa (by that, I mean the usual beaten up portrayal of clothes being some what torn) that's still to your usual cuteness. Extra points if it's classic Marisa and even more points if it's a Mima training session. A worn-out, somewhat defeated, Classic Marisa with Mima in it would certainly be awesome.

Hmm, I would probably say about 2+ hours, since I get quite fussy over the line art and details and etc, etc.
Comics are quite fun to do, but I'm not that imaginative when it comes to writing dialougues and such. Plus it takes a while unless I'm really motivated. :V

I like the remilia on a chair too, and the following pic :) The only problem I see with the chair is that the arm-rest closer to the camera isn't as long as the arm-rest farther from the camera, making it look uneven. Trying to imagine the camera angle progressing to the side view helps with that sort of thing.

I haven't been hearing much about it (even though I'm in NC as well) aside from a university alert e-mail. :V However from looking at recent info it seems the Triangle area won't be too heavily affected.
It seems that the local Wal-Mart isn't taking any chances! ^^'
HOPEFULLY it isn't nearly as problematic as Floyd was 12 years ago (which was my first hurricane while over here in US - that was a fun 3-4 weeks without power D:).

I have also tried this thing that my art teacher showed to the class. It's called Inktense, which is sort of like water color pencils, but they "turn into ink" when you run water over it. I think the results look pretty, if not a little messy.

The answer is to team up with a writer! Honestly, the only reason I threw that out was because I was remembering my old partnership with Arsen for one of the Another Dream releases, when we made a doujin called Rhapsodic Night Fever. That was fun.

Hooray for procrastinating~ Especially when it brings about adorable... but everything you do is adorable so I guess it doesn't matter when you draw as long as you draw. :x I really like how the hair came out. Did you use Adobe Illustrator on this?
I also like the idea of you doing comic/doujin stuffs. I really loved that 4 page IN comic you did with Youmu and Yuyuko vs. Mystia. If doing a fullblown doujinshi becomes too daunting, you could consider doing a series of 4koma-style comics. They don't require a lot of scenery or dialogue/story to be effective, and you can always stretch it out past 4 panels if you want to elaborate on something.

Ahhhh okay, I just thought since you said you started it in Illustration class. I have to use Illustrator in Graphic Design a lot and I have no idea how the hell people get awesome looking coloring jobs with it. >: You can get great results with it, but I think it's harder to master/more time consuming than something like Photoshop. Or I'm going about it in all the wrong ways.
I wanna give Irisu a hug. D; I gotta get to playing that sometime, it looks interesting. And Prince Shotoku's expression amuses me horribly for some reason...

Patchy's right hand seems slightly off for some reason, and the legs have different thicknesses.
Those slippers on Satori and the vein is a nice touch! Now, as for the leg, unlike others here I do see some problem with it, but I think it has to do with the hip.

If it's similar to the stuff I'm going to use for my creeparka, it has heat-activated glue on one side that you iron whatever you want onto the shirt, so it shouldn't matter what color you use.

You can find transfer paper at places like Wal-Mart, Iknow that much. (Don't know if you've got one in your area though) Probably also craft stores or something might have em, if they've got other t-shirt related kits, like tiedye, etc.

Dark fabric transfer paper works for light shirts too, at least from what my mom's done with it; it's also less prone to cracking and fading, so use that when you can.

As for transfer paper I remember using some for some weird school project and it got all like cracked on the shirt after a fair amount of washes and dries. Though it was probably crappy paper since it was just for a project...
I'm actually looking to make a shirt for a cosplay through those means so it'd be nice to find some affordable good paper /sigh

Maybe you should try using the delicate setting when drying those shirts? Perhaps the lesser heat might help.

Yeah, I usually just draw really faint guidelines with my pencil then go over the actual lines with my pencil again.

Well if the cute bored expression was what she was going after, I think the mouth should be higher (instead of the nose lower) so that it looks like she's tilting her head back, emphasizing the casual/bored look.

I have a request if you are still doing them as you have one of my favorite art styles on the forums...
The icon on my Youtube channel page (http://www.youtube.com/user/angleallegro) is really cute but she's playing the wrong instrument! (it was the closest thing I could find that would scale down as a square without looking like garbage) I play the clarinet, and I'd like it to match :3
Thing is, I don't know which character would "fit" the instrument best in terms of the clarinet's timbre and tone color, and since you're the artist I don't want to stifle the creative process in any way. I'd imagine it wouldn't be any of the really young fairies, nor anyone too "majestic." In my mind I'd picture like Sanae, Orin, Youmu (I see a theme here) but what my brain thinks is good for fitting art might not really be so. I have a request if you are still doing them as you have one of my favorite art styles on the forums...
The icon on my Youtube channel page (http://www.youtube.com/user/angleallegro) is really cute but she's playing the wrong instrument! (it was the closest thing I could find that would scale down as a square without looking like garbage) I play the clarinet, and I'd like it to match :3
Thing is, I don't know which character would "fit" the instrument best in terms of the clarinet's timbre and tone color, and since you're the artist I don't want to stifle the creative process in any way. I'd imagine it wouldn't be any of the really young fairies, nor anyone too "majestic." In my mind I'd picture like Sanae, Orin, Youmu (I see a theme here) but what my brain thinks is good for fitting art might not really be so. Go for it! Hearing from another illustrator on the forums (really the MC server where she's more often connected :V), portfolios are a good idea for submissions. As for qualifications, I have no idea; it could depend largely on the faculty reviewing it.

It's been going smoothly, I think. I drew some buildings and stuff outside from where I sit in school, if that counts.
I haven't gotten a chance to break out the paints and paint some backgrounds yet (because SCHOOL >:( ) Although now since I have a three day weekend I can maybe do something (your request included) later.

My only gripe would have to be the top and right-hand part of the rear mountain. Why are those regions of it more defined than the rest of that mountain?

u really had a good touch with the both character's physical and inner emotion
remilia in the first drawing u did really had a good pose to support her feeling
the composition and the object proportion makes kinda makes brought down the quality but still good
as for an art portfolio u might want to focus more into realistic object / figure drawing or painting
u can put some manga art in it to support ur interest as an artist doing ur personal artwork but not too many
cuz in my experience having a realistic drawing in ur portfolio allow ur school to look at ur understanding of skill of art
of course that depend what school u going to

Actually that sounds about right. I believe I only have 3 manga pieces in my portfolio, and I sort of feel like that's pushing it. The rest of my pieces are either drawings of landscapes or still lifes. (Because like you said, I want to show them I can do other things just as well.)

Those are pretty good ways to figure out errors in older drawings and analyse a style progression. Did one last week for some of my (pretty damn bad in retrospect) drawings from 2-6 years prior. Noticeable improvement.

The detail and colouring/shading on all the art is absolutely fantastic! I thought the anatomy was off at first, but upon later viewing I realised that this stylisation just added to the cuteness of the characters.

That is one of the wonders of artwork in general, something can be anatomically incorrect but still look amazing.
You see this happen in a lot of anime (and I'm not just talking about the excessive cleavage :V)

Also, really stupid question: I'm still wanting to go through with making the Touhou shirts, but I'm still not quite sure on how to go about distributing them.Would people prefer buying them off a site that does the service of printing out the designs, or should I just buy ink transfer sheets and do it myself? I'm not quite sure how those sites work or how reliable they are in terms of quality and service, but then again me doing it myself might produce some amateurish results.

Also, really stupid question: I'm still wanting to go through with making the Touhou shirts, but I'm still not quite sure on how to go about distributing them.Would people prefer buying them off a site that does the service of printing out the designs, or should I just buy ink transfer sheets and do it myself? I'm not quite sure how those sites work or how reliable they are in terms of quality and service, but then again me doing it myself might produce some amateurish results.
Any thoughts, anyone?
I wish I could help ya on that one, but all the shirts I made was by screen printing... If I were you, I'd talk to Blargel, he had done something very similar to this and I think he'd be able to answer your questions.

They're pretty much like their chalk counterpart, so it tends to smudge if you're not careful. However, I like to take a napkin or some q-tips to gently blend the colors together.

the combination of ur rough paper texture work and ur pencil shading works very well
specially with Sekibanki and hexter
the texture gives the smoke things and cloth an extra depth
it would be great if u can play that off on ur digital

Hexer looks fantastic (I played the demo for EO's demo on the 3ds and FOEs are too scary for me)
though I think her torso could be a little bit longer (but great work on the other details like the chain, cloak and her leg binds)
Noticed several things about Nue - the way you shaded the cloth at her abdomen makes her look fat (well this is assuming you didn't mean to draw fat nue but if you did then ignore this :v ) also, her chest is far too low but the biggest problem is you missed out nueen's ahoge ;-; (i kid) (also her spiral pattern on her dress)

Perhaps with a certain brush or filter I might be able to pull that off. This is something that I'll have to try in the future.

I tried drawing the body in a slightly different pose/perspective to try and make it more dynamic than my usual poses, but I guess it didn't work out this time.

I tried an honest attempt at a one point perspective background while painting a Shizuha, but I sort of made some errors on the trees on the right. I sort of lost motivation on this one, but if anyone has any tips for this piece, I'd greatly appreciate it!
