Yeah; even I have no idea what that's all about it.
I mean, someone started a petition to try and ban Homestuck from MCM Expo and their future events. Trying to stop people cosplaying from any series is just wrong.
Of course, the Homestuck fandom invaded said petition in their own way~ :V
But yeah, trying to ban any fandom from events is just a waste of time.

It's probably because in conventions where there are a limited number of tickets available, homestuck cosplay is generally very low-rent and means fewer types of other series cosplay, or something.
It makes some sense for anime conventions to frown at homestuck cosplay, but I don't really see the point in banning it from comic conventions (given that it is, in fact, a comic). Granted, such a ban is likely impossible to enforce anyway, outside of preventing "official" meetups like the ten million people who applied and were rejected for a Homestuck panel at Otakon last year.

Banning any sort of cosplay seems pretty dumb to me, aside from the obvious inappropriate stuff.

People just get upset because it's something that isn't an anime being cosplayed at an anime convention with extreme frequency.
Then again people cosplay things like sci fi characters, comic book characters, characters from American cartoons, celebrities, and video game characters (not anime even if Japanese) so... really it's just an excuse to try to hate on Homestuck more.
As was said already, there's basically no way this could ever happen so whatever.

The cosplay thread has been dead for over two weeks now, and it's the first time I post stuff like this so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to open a new thread or just post it here since it's Homestuck-related. I'll go ahead and post it here, and it can be moved wherever if necessary.
It was the biggest mangacon in Spain last weekend, and we did this huge cosplay group on Sunday 4th!

My girlfriend spent a long time working on her Aranea cosplay since it's been her favourite character for a long time now, so it's a pity that we left her necklace behind at home because we were in such a hurry (we were getting there about one hour late due to gray make-up issues). I was cosplaying Bro with some huge shades I borrowed from a friend.
We initially covered almost every character, but lots of people dropped out, some got replaced, others dropped out and got replaced again... in the end, some people were left with very little time to work on their costumes (including the last three trolls that were introduced) so we almost didn't make it (we only found some steampunk-ish glasses for Horuss the day before the meeting out of pure luck since a friend was carrying some around). Thankfully, all of the people that dropped out at the last minute were covering relatively minor characters (Mindfang, Doc Scratch, Caliborn...) and we found another Rose at the Con to replace in for the girl who fell ill on the last few days to the group meeting.

I think it's supposed to just imply "So the new kids did all this cool adventure stuff and learned things and etc that we already pretty much saw the original kids AND to some degree the trolls do, and none of it was really all that important in the big picture and we can kind of guess what it was, so we're skipping to the part that actually matters"

Oh wow. I did notice something weird about him counting in 7s instead of 5s, but I didn't really think much of it. I suppose this means something big is going to happen on the day after, huh.

So... yep... Hussie did say he planned for this to be only one "page" like a year ago, so it has nothing to do with time constraints or anything. I'd agree that it's basically supposed to be "yep, kids adventuring in Sburb, been there done that."

Well the day after would be 4/13/2013 which is when the beta kids are supposed to meet the alphas, 3 years from the start of the story. It also seems to be accepted speculation that that's the date the comic will end in reality, though that of course is just speculation based on Hussie saying it will end in 2013.

...Huh, really? I must've not been around at the right time to nearly see them all, but I remember only seeing about 20-30 or so Homestuck cosplayers total while I was there. I didn't really talk to many of them, though, heh, really only one Karkat when I first arrived there and a couple waves to a select one or two other peeps. Guess I just didn't look around hard enough. ...Plus, I was with my sister who I was visiting at the time, I only went to the con as something to do while over in the great city o' LA, so I didn't have the full experience of staying the whole amount of hours at the con.

Keep in mind that there will always be something that some insane majority of people seem to be cosplaying.
It used to be generic shonen stuff and now it's Hometuck. It isn't Japanese? Who fucking cares really. Honestly Homestuck is weird and I can't see what type of con it would "fit" in. Perhaps a comic convention more than an anime one, but the people that read it tend to enjoy anime more often than straight up comics (movie versions of comics not being counted here). Is there a con for webcomics??? Maybe?
Point is, something will always be ridiculously popular and people will always hate on it. So whatever. People are simply using the excuse that this doesn't happen to be an anime or manga to be bigger assholes about it than usual.

I saw several cool homestuck cosplays at a convention I went to during the summer and it wasn't even remotely related to that kind of stuff. (...I actually saw three sailor moons too for some reason, which really confused me, although it was awesome. They were the only anime or anime related cosplays at the thing :V)

People cosplay tons of stuff that isn't anime at anime cons and only really nitpicky people looking for an excuse to be assholes have a problem with it, though Homestuck is the only one I've heard wide complaints about. As I said before, Homestuck doesn't really fit into anything that has a con and people that read it tend to enjoy anime more than anything else that has it's own con.
Honestly, there is no problem with anyone doing anything that has no effect on you at all. I literally don't fathom why people care what other people are cosplaying at a con. It does not effect you at all. (saying that it does because you have to see something you don't like doesn't count as an effect)

I think if Homestuck "belongs" at any con, it'd be western comic cons, since it is a western comic made by an authentic western and published in print form in the west. But really, who gives a shit? I see Jokers at anime cons, and I am pretty sure there's sailor moons at western comic cons. Let people have fun, it's not hurting anyone.

TBH growing up in his situation, it's not surprising how he turned out. I mean, it WOULD really, really suck. Siblings normally get on eachother's nerves for that matter, and in this super extreme kind of situation, I can totally feel for him just loathing her entirely.
She's kind of the like the polar opposite, more positive result. Bad in a different way. You know, the incessant happy fangirl teen who writes a bunch of self-insert fanfiction and pretends she could be one of those characters and fawns over them.
There's not a lot to do when you're stuck in a room forever! Or half of a room, in this case.

Anyway there are Homestuck meetup groups in many large regions that do stuff almost weekly (especially in the summer) so maybe that'll help alleviate people's need to be assholes at cons? Dunno. Admittedly cons are a thing meetup groups frequent too, at least the Chicago group. How the hell these high school kids afford so many cons is beyond me...

Easiest to point out as being silly: Limebloods. Their power is being Rainbow Drinkers, not changing their blood color. That's a pretty obvious one. The previous thing he mentioned about elaborate makeup would be way more believable for the explanation of red. Too lazy to get into the rest
(Not saying this makes the theory weaker, just that a few of them are stretches)

On a different note, the fact that Calliope had Gamzee's laptop and DaveKat book of penis filled with stuff censored out by Gamzee probably means that Gamzee is ultimately responsible for the creation of Lord English by travelling through time and messing with random crap, much like how Vriska was responsible for creating Bec Noir.

First of all: only half the planet seems to have been re-lifed. Which seems kind of ominous.
Second of all, the fanon interpretation of Tricksters seems to be that they have a personality which is 1. saccharine-cheerful, 2. the "opposite" of the base character's personality, and 3. extremely fucking murderous. Nobody can say how much that fits canon, but I think it's pretty safe to say that Jane herself is not in control. In fact, I'd say control is pretty much the exact opposite of what she's in. Unless it's Chaos Control and she's the ultimate life form.
I'm just gonna sit back here and laugh at the people who think they have any idea of what Andrew's gonna do next.

Potentially. However, the basic theories I have been reading on class and aspect generally agree that the Prince class is a destructive class-- destructive toward whatever aspect they are assigned, as well as destructive through the aspect, using it as a medium to do so.
The Page on the other hand is a passive exploitative class-- one that shows little in the way of their aspect at first, but then once they understand it, can do great things with it. While I personally rather loathe Jake in general because jfc shut up already, I wonder what will become of him later. Dirk, on the other hand...

With regards to Dirk, my thoughts are that's just burned himself out and can't really be sincere about shit anymore. Essentially, he's fallen so deep down the irony hole while trying to be his vision of what a cool bro actually is that he's kind of forgotten how turn it off, and can't interact with the world without tossing up a couple layers worth of detachment around it. There's not really any manipulation around it, it's just the natural result of being who he is. Dave had similar problems; like in his first conversations with Meenah.
Also: I am pleased that Gamzee has gotten into the spirit of things. And....when was the last time he's actually said anything? I've having trouble remembering. Last I can recall was him telling Kurloz to shut up, and I think that was the first time in ages.

The whole thing is awesomely done, actually. I had started to feel like I wasn't getting the same satisfaction reading Homestuck update-by-update as I did back when I read through the whole block up to Act 6 Act 2, but this SburbTouhou is really enjoyable, and the Homestuck plot seems to be speeding up lately too, so I'm really pleased with everything right now :3

Been playing DesireDriven. I'm really amazed at how well they manage to capture the atmosphere of Homestuck, at least in my opinion.
I really hope this thing gains some momentum and becomes more popular. It deserves more attention!

I think this has been consistent with her character throughout the series. Definitely self-absorbed, self-motivated, self-centered, and other words that are prefixed with self-, but she's never been evil just to be evil. She's always had a motivation for doing what she does, and it's usually because she thinks she's justified in doing it. Just going through some of the bigger examples in the comic...
-She feeds a bunch of kids to spidermom because that's her lot in life, but it's pretty clear she resented doing this (not because the trolls meant anything to her but because she hates being in service to another)
-She mindhaxes Tavros off a cliff, but she was trying to "better" him as a troll (because he was, and is, a completely pathetic pushover his entire existence even before losing use of his legs). (In additon, she may have been under the subtle influence of Scratch at the time, as he used this accident to get Tavros to write T1CK).
-She wants to go off to fight Jack, but she honestly believes she can beat him as a god-tier. Even Scratch thinks it might've been possible, albeit she had no way of knowing it would've caused the death of the others still alive on the satellite.
In fact, I think it's pretty stupid that JUST NOW everyone is deciding "you've gone too far this time Vriska!!" since her actions were far less justifiable in the last few acts. IMO this isn't well-written at all.
I'm handwaving it because if Sollux and Tavros were never in another panel or mentioned ever again, I wouldn't really mind. If it takes this for them to leave their useless carcasses out of the plot, I'm okay with it.
John's reaction seems to be a conclusion he reached after having a couple years to digest her personality, but at least he stuck around and still wants to be her friend.

Vriska, to me, reads like she's just trying to retroactively justify whatever she felt like doing. She didn't have a problem murdering a bunch of trollkids to feed her lusus, she just complained about the fact that she had to deal with the fact few people wanted anything to do with her afterward. She didn't really feel bad about what she did to Tavros, because she was sure laughing it up at the time and continued to taunt him with it for awhile afterward. It wasn't until much later when maybe she managed to find some fondness for him that she felt bad for it and tried to justify it to herself. She didn't give a damn what would happen when she tried to defeat Noir on her own. She went on this treasure hunt largely because she wanted to, I think maybe in spite of knowing there were other methods that could work out.
Vriska does whatever Vriska wants, and justifies it later. This is why I'm happy Tavros finally told her to go screw. It is, admittedly, one of the few times that either Tavros and Sollux proved to be entertaining, though.

The collective theory I'm seeing around the tumblrs is/seems to be:
Caliborn taking over the narrative and retconning everything is the cause for the gaps in everyone's memories. John is gone because Caliborn apparently attacked him via the narrative and killed him. However, if Rose says that he's safe, he probably did what he did the last time he was attacked: Turned into wind/air/whatever, and apparently retreated from there.

I think it's the first time I'll ever say this, but I'm... not that pleased with what Hussie's doing right now.
It was really nice to see Aranea coming back, but the whole deal with giving her a forced bad attitude just completely trashes/kills off the the character that we had seen up until now and just turns her into a Vriska who is not Vriska.

One of her major character traits just completely disappeared for this to happen. Being a fan who really liked Aranea and heavily disliked Vriska for her narcissism what I see is basically turning a polar opposite into the other for this particular trait.

I think it's fair to say that some of Vriska may have rubbed off on Aranea, because the opposite is certainly true. So you're right that her personality has shifted somewhat. I'm just not entirely sure that's a bad thing; given how many of the future/past trolls are opposite spectrums, perhaps the "point" is to get them to interact and grow up a little.

I don't think Aranea is comparible to Vriska until she kills someone for her plan. I don't think what she's doing is bad either. She wants to be a hero. More importantly, she thinks she can do this, and is the only one who can do this, so why not take a chance to be a God Damn Hero like she's always wanted? At least she's not trying to create Lord English so she can have a showdown with him, like a certain ancendant tried to do.
Also holy shit she can DO that? If she can call on the powers of multiple dead trolls she might really be able to match }{IC, she wasn't bluffing.
Frankly, I'm surprised more people aren't talking about something she just revealed casually in passing: The kids/trolls/}{IC are going to suceed in creating the new universe, they have to, because C1 is going to be the birthplace of Caliborn. Also, at least Jade has to end up going there to drop off Old Earth for the cherubs to be born in.

Act 5 was a rollercoaster ride of high points and low points but for the most part Act 6 is pretty bad. The fact that the constant flow of content has come to a stop at the lowest point of the series leaves a pretty bad taste in one's mouth.

Giga-Almost-Unpause, Probably.
Let's see if I can "tldr" a few things up top, since this news item might begin to nose dive dramatically through the vertical space of this web layout. Am I finished HS yet? Um, nope. But I think enough is probably enough on the site's indefinite period of hibernation, so it's likely I will just start posting some stuff I have anyway, starting next month. Either mid or late October, let's say.
I said it would be a long pause, didn't I? Let's face it, a gigapause is just one big ass pause. It contains the smaller word "giga", which, in addition to literally meaning "one billion", you will find to be the root of the word "gigantic", which as we all know, means super huge. This intriguing fact reminds us that in our culture of words, we hold the number one billion as the indivisible quantum of general bigness, as a matter of principal. Food for thought!
We're coming up on almost a year since I paused. So that means I got like, SO much done on the story, right? Wow, no. Innumerable unspecified problems happened which badly prevented this from being true. I'd estimate out of those 12 months, I maybe squeezed in a grand total of 3 months worth of work on HS in there. Kinda dribbled across the year in the most frustrating way possible. So, I'm just gonna cry uncle on this dogshit pause and start posting stuff, but probably in a regimented way so I don't blow through everything I have too fast, thus giving me some time to work on the rest.
Back at the onset of the pause, I said I'd just post everything at once. (I was oversimplifying. I had always intended to stagger the final content to whatever extent, so as not to destroy the server.) But also that "post everything at once" idea was predicated on actually sorta... having it all done. Which as I have already culpa'd, is not the case. So I'm improvising at this point. I'll (probably) relaunch the story next month, come up with some kind of update schedule, and we'll see how it goes.
What have I been doing all year? Let's chalk it up to, in this order of relevance, a swirling multitude of Daunting Life Challenges, a flurry of accidental weird adventures causing me to thrash wildly across the nation, and the escalating complexities of running a business while tending to peripheral creative projects, not the least of which has been overseeing the development of an expensive video game. Actually, all things considered, I'm surprised at how much I actually HAVE gotten done this year. It just happens that "making a ton of HS pages" isn't one of those things.
What were the problems? What were the adventures? Sorry, nothing to see here. Me and the General Public just aren't that tight, and wild sob stories ain't my bag (unless they pertain to visits to the Olive Garden). Well, maybe I'll mention some things some day. But definitely nowhere in the proximity of a virtual stage adjacent to the sphere of rhetoric which could conceivably be construed as a series of excuses for why a mammoth load of free entertainment hasn't been finished yet. Did you follow that? Look over there. (When you look back at me, I am slowly rolling into a pile of trash.)
The good news is, I'm still all about horses. Did you know that about me? It's true as shit. Horses; wow. Pretty good weird big animals? Or pretty GREAT weird big animals??
What else should I say here. Oh.
We've also been chipping away at upgrading the server over the last year. It's been surprisingly complicated and slow-going. Actually, prior to the pause, it was one of the most difficult things about updating, having an insufficient server that was GUARANTEED to crash every time I posted something. This was even after many, many upgrades over the years. It gets a little demoralizing trying to make tons of cartoons every day for a small nation of lunatics when the server constantly struggles to keep up with the ever-burgeoning readership, no matter how much I upgraded it. This was one of the (lots of) factors which contributed to me finally just saying, fuck it, time to pause.
Hopefully it can handle it now, but guess we'll see. It all runs on fancy clouds and such now. Which has been tricky to configure for such a complicated site utterly dependent on all the garbage ass-backwards code I've written over the years. Maybe... maybe once I start updating again, nobody will notice?? Man, wouldn't that be sweet. It will just be me and like a cozy little clique of 50 randos and 10 web bots, just like the old days. We'll bring this sucker home together, then hit up the local bargain Italian restaurant to celebrate. (Then a horse nuzzles me out of my sleepy dream fantasy, and the hammock flips over and dumps my screaming body on to the lawn.)
Feels a little odd even TALKING about revving up this monstrosity again. It's been pretty serene on the web these days. I've been reluctant to even drop a pebble into the pristine glass-like state of the fandom, before being good and damn well ready to. Why wake the beast prematurely? We'll enjoy more than our share of blistering pandemonium when all is said and done. We are slowly building to a particular moment I foresee on the horizon. It's not just characterized by the end of the story, though that should be a factor. It's more than that. Things I have planned, and some other things we'll say may be fortuitously aligned. Invisible pieces of a heinous machine all snapping together, mechanically congealing with a grim sense of purpose. I'm tentatively branding to this moment as The Rapture, and it will be more than you can bear. More than anyone can. And everyone won't.
