[Rather] Easy start for Touhou cosplay?
« on: January 19, 2011, 07:40:59 PM »
Soooo.  :]

I'm looking for a character whose outfit wouldn't be exactly the hardest to make, but at the same time she'd have to be someone who isn't very used.

Any help?  :3

Shizuha Aki if you're willing to destroy a dress.
Rikako might be an easy one too.

Off the top of my head, I've done Reisen, Yuugi and Daiyousei largely because none of them were particularly difficult. Murasa would not be very hard either.

I recommend picking a small handful of characters you would like to do and go from there. Then we can narrow it down to something doable for you. Suwako and Hatate are two characters that haven't been done to the point of excess, but would still be easy to do. Both would require a bit of sewing, but I always think this is a good thing because (1) it's your own creation, (2) sewing isn't too tough to learn so long as you have a machine to work with and someone - anyone - on hand who has used one before and (3) sewing's a nice little hobby and not a bad skill to learn either.

Remember, there are a few of us around here who have done this stuff in spades, so don't be too afraid to start out.

This also reminds me that I should consider pestering someone else about starting.

Shirt.  Shorts.  Green hair dye.  Hey presto, it's Wriggle~!

...Oh, and I guess something for antennae, but those shouldn't be too difficult to get a hold of, I think.

What about elly? She isn't very popular and her dress isn't exactly the hardest to make. The only problem is the scythe.  :ohdear:

You can also try Sara, her dress is one of the simplest to make. The problem is that only the very hardcore touhou fans will recognize you. :V

Also, I know it's off topic, but MAGICAL MOERIN THIS AVATAR OF YOURS IS SO CUTE!!! THIS WINK! HNNNNNNG!! <3

Sweetness and love~ ♥

Renko is incredibly easy. You can pretty much just buy all her clothes if you want to.

(I wouldn't do the R53M or MA designs, they looks less Renko-y)

If you're just starting out with cosplay/sewing in general, it may be easier to go with a "salvage"/closet costume rather than going and getting a bunch of fabric and being all like HOLY CRAP WHAT DO I DO NOW. Plus, it helps with getting a general idea of how clothes and such are structured, which will undoubtedly help for future projects. :P (It's a lot less hassle as well- altering pre-sewn stuff generally takes a lot less time than doing everything from scratch.)

And in terms of which characters would seem easy? Rumia- Long-sleeved dress shirt, black vest and skirt, and you're already a good way there; Koakuma seems pretty doable too.

Personally though, the problem I have with cosplaying simply-clothed characters like Rumia is that if you don't have enough detail and effort in what is there, you end up looking like a lazy bastard.
