GAUNTLET BREAKER - MOTK SERIES

Hello, everyone! This is a little game I decided to think up on the spot after about 10 minutes of thinking this through. I'm not sure if I want to punt BaitySM for inspiring me to do this or not! :3 Anyway, the mechanics of the game may seem complicated but in practice it's actually really simple. Anyway, I will describe it now.

GAME PROPER

Game officially starts from here onwards.

POINT SYSTEM

Contestants or participants who sign up are given a value of 250 "points." These points are used to allocate into four "categories," this will be their "power" in that specific "category" or "statistic." The statistics are broken down into the following:

POWER - Strength, this determines your ability to smash shit up.
AGILITY - Speed, this determines how fast you act and your proficiency with lighter weapons
MANA - Magic, this determines your ability and proficiency with the wizardly arts
DEFENSE - This determines how tanky you are.

Interested participants are to state in their "sign-up post" the allocated stats already. The maximum value for a specific stat is 255. Please take this in mind, as min/maxing is very much possible for a single participant. However, it may or may not be in your best interest to do such a thing.

ERRATA: Contestants are locked into having 1038 HP.

ARMORY SYSTEM

Contestants, after min/maxing or customizing their stat spread, are then requested to choose a collection of THREE WEAPONS from the following pools.

POWER
Swords
  • XCalibr (POW * 15, hits a group, damage is calculated as 70 POW if your POW < 70)
  • Delfin Blade (POW * 16, powerful single target)
  • Dragon Sword (POW * 14, x1.5 multiplier against Dragons)
  • Ogre Killer (POW * 13, x1.5 multiplier against Humanoids)
  • Defender (POW * 14, halves damage done by physicals)
  • Laevateinn (POW * 14, user is immune to Fire)
  • Sun Blade (POW * 15, x2.0 multiplier against Undead)

  • Seven Sword (POW * 15, hits seven times on one use, only usable for 7 times)
  • Muramasa (POW * 15, x2.0 multiplier against Humanoids, only usable for 40 times)
Axes and Hammers
  • Pandemonium (POW * 15)
  • Rune Axe (POW * 12, user reflects all magic attacks back to caster)
  • Thunder Axe (POW * 12, x2.0 multiplier against Thunder-weak enemies)
Spears
  • Dragon Spear Longinus (POW * 16, powerful single target)
  • Gungnir (POW * 15, hits a group, high accuracy, damage is calculated as 70 POW if your POW < 70)

AGILITY
Fencing / Sabers
  • Whirlwind Sickle (AGL * 7, acts as a shield, 70% evasion)
  • Death's Sickle (AGL * 10, chance to inflict instant death)
  • Princess Saber (AGL * 12, powerful single target)
  • Kaleido Saber (AGL * 13, lightsaber type)

  • Venus' Fan (AGL * 9, MANA+10 when use, chance to inflict Stun, hits group)
  • Shogun's Fan (AGL * 9, chance to inflict Poison/Sleep/Paralysis, hits group)
  • Twinkle Star (AGL * 10, POW and AGL + 5 when use, hits group)
  • Missing Moon (AGL * 10, MANA and DEF + 5 when use, hits group)
Martial Arts
Martial Arts get stronger the more you use it.
  • Crosscounter (Reflect Pow 5, Counters an attack at 5~8x the damage)
  • Triangle Kick (Initial Pow 440 --> ?)
  • Submission (Initial Pow 480 --> ?)
  • Hook (Initial Pow 400 --> ?)

MANA
Weaponry
  • Psi Blade (MANA * 15)
  • Psi Gun (MANA * 12, hits group)
Books and Canes
  • Flare Book (MANA * 13, hits everything, 10 uses only)
  • Raging Cane (MANA * 12, hits everything, 15 uses only)
  • Exorcist Book (MANA * 13, only hits the Undead)
  • Fire Book (MANA * 10, hits group)
  • Ice Book (MANA * 10, hits group)
  • Thunder Book (MANA * 10, hits group)
Healing Type
  • Cure Book (MANA * 8 )
  • Heal Staff (MANA * 8, heals everyone, 15 uses only)
  • Fullcure Book (Heals everyone fully, revives fallen allies, 5 uses only)
  • Revival Staff (Revives a fallen ally, 15 uses only)
  • Twilight Staff (Restores status effects off everyone, 30 uses only)
  • Kouma Staff (Raises everyone's stats by 10%, 10 uses only)

After the three weapons are chosen, the participant is then to describe their battle style and their behavior in a battle if they were to be an AI. This is extremely crucial as it determines many important things here.

COLLABORATIVE SYSTEM

Participants are then randomly grouped into teams of four. Once the team lists are released, each team is given 10 Red Strings. These Red Strings will determine how strong their team camaraderie is. Red Strings can be granted or taken away at will depending on the activity within the thread. The more the team members are posting together and discussing things in the thread, the more Red Strings they are given. Red Strings grant bonuses depending on how many you have. They grant mainly damage bonuses and increase the chances of teams activating Linkage Attacks, a powerful attack they have at their disposal depending on the weapon they have.

0 Red Strings - Eliminated More on this later
1~5 Red Strings - 90% original damage, 10% chance to activate
6~9 Red Strings - 95% original damage, 10% chance to activate
10 Red Strings - 100% original damage, 10% chance to activate
11~15 Red Strings - 125% original damage, 20% chance to activate
16~20 Red Strings - 150% original damage, 30% chance to activate
21~30 Red Strings - 175% original damage, 40% chance to activate
31+ Red Strings - 200% original damage, 50% chance to activate

THE GAME ITSELF

Once the team lists are ready and everyone is down to get some action started, teams are to be pitted within their specific gauntlet of enemies. The aim is for this team to finish the entire gauntlet before any of the other teams do. Each team will not have exactly the same gauntlet. Player participation is not a huge effort despite what this game is. It is mainly discussion based and determining the team's strategy towards defeating that enemy. Note that this discussion must take place within the thread for it to be creditted towards a Red String bonus. When the team is done with their strategy, they will send that strategy to me and I will enact a battle of that fight using simple formulae.

A team that loses the fight will lose 1 Red String. If your team loses all the Red Strings assigned to them, they are eliminated. People spectating the game can take bets on who will win their gauntlet first. After each fight, teams are given 30000 GP with which they can spend on additional weapons for their Armory. Note that this is SHARED WITHIN THE TEAM so you must discuss amongst yourselves how to share the profit.

Gauntlets consist of 5 fights for the current series. There is no time limit on strategy planning, but this consists of the bulk of participating in this little game. It is an exercise on the mind and I hope that people will participate.

Sounds interesting, but first I must ask why katanas are strictly superior to their sword counterparts, see Delfin vs Kusanagi, Ogre Killer vs Muramasa.

100 pow
110 agi
10 mana
30 def

Arsenal - Dragon Spear Longinus, Whirlwind Sickle, Venus' Fan.

Very complex strategy/AI: Soften a meaty target with the spear, and attack the faster and nimbler enemies as a first priority with the Venus' Fan. Take a risk with the Whirlwind Sickle against hard-hitting mooks?

This looks really interesting

Power: 40
Agility: 80
Mana: 80
Defence: 50

Arsonal: Triangle Kick, Psi Blade, Kouma Staff

AI: Mixes both Magic and Martial Arts, being able to fight at long range and short range. Would run up and use close-quarters until things look grim, then go to medium-range and then long-range to retreat

This is my first time doing something like this, so please try not to go easy ok?

Sure, I'm in.

Power 100
Agility 0
Mana 50
Defense 100

Arsenal:

Seven Sword, Gungnir, Cure Book.

AI: Use Gungnir unless a team member is on 50% HP or less, then use Cure Book to restore health to the highest-HP party member that is still below 50% HP. If all team-members' HP is 30% or lower and there is no other healer in the team, use Seven Sword on most dangerous enemy, otherwise heal healer.

Comedy option!

Power 0
Agility 250
Mana 0
Defence 0

Arsenal: Gungnir, Princess Saber, Revival Staff

Tactics: Keep the enemy at arm's length with the Gungnir's reach and high evasion, to prevent them from ever landing a hit.  Revive fallen allies as soon as they die.  Kill mages and other targets with auto-hit skills with the Princess Saber as quickly as possible, above all else, in the following order: Mages > Other targets with auto-hit skills > Anything with an AoE attack.

Okay I'm in.

Power - 70
Agility - 40
Mana - 0
Defence - 140

Weapons - Defender, Rune Axe, XCalibr

AI - Walk straight up to enemies and attack. Switch between Defender/Rune Axe depending on which is a greater threat. If both are fairly minimal use XCalibr but only if HP is over 70% if it falls bast that go back to Defender/Rune Axe. Also defends injured allies if possible

Callin' Healer.

Power - 0
Agility - 90
Mana - 120
Defence - 40

Weapons: Heal Staff, Revival Staff, Psi Gun.

AI: Keeps to the rear, preferably behind a meatshield and away from the big action. Keeps comrades up and running. Heals and Revives allies as needs be, defends if there's no need for healing or observes the enemy/terrain for weaknesses and things to take advantage of. May snipe if opportunity presents itself to save people a lot of pain, but will usually prioritize healing if it is felt to be needed. Will hold own if attacked and there's no one to help. Should healing goods run out, then will keep distance and gun people up.

Pow- 75
Agi- 100

Oh so totally /in.(Mostly cause this seems to slightly resemble Labyrinth of Touhou.)

POW: 120
AGL: 65
DEF: 65
MANA: 0

Weapon:
POW-Swords: Laevateinn
AGL-Impact: Shogun's Fan
AGL-Fencing/Sabers: Death's Sickle

AI behaviour: If a Healer-type is present, she will always strike at it with Death's Sickle. If not, she uses Shogun's Fan. After a while, she'll just go to town and randomly choose one poor fella to nuke with Laevateinn. After a few turns, target highest DEF opponent with Death's Sickle.
Rinse and repeat.

Battle Style: Debuffer/Nuker
Pretty much just weaken the enemy an' blow one poor fella' up :V

HELL YEAH I'M IN! Sign me up!

*Mesarthim points to a sign, which says 'No Godhax Sues allowed'*

.....Fine. >_>

*Puts on power-limiter ribbon*

Power: 120
Agility: 80
Magic: 20
Defense: 30

Weapons:
AGL-Martial Arts: Triangle Kick
POW-Axes and Hammers: Rune Axe
AGL-Impact: Shogun's Fan

Battle style: Lightning Bruiser/Glass Cannon
Basically hit n' run. Can't take much damage, but dodges a lot. Stays away from powerful foes until it sees an opening, after which it will attack relentlessly (opportunist~). Abuses the abilities of its weapons a lot to debuff enemies and protect itself from magic. Always starts up with Shogun's Fan, after which it will switch over to a combo with the Rune Axe and finishing it with a Triangle Kick. Might switch between Rune Axe and Triangle Kick combos depending on the situation. Uses Shogun's Fan a lot against groups.

Alright, team 3, based on my RPG knowledge I think we can assume that machines are weak to electricity (causing them to short-circuit) and are immune to most status debuffs (except maybe paralysis). They probably don't use magic either and may be vulnerable to it.

Unfortunately, we don't have lightning spells....

Guess we'll just have to wreck them the old fashioned way! I bet the Psi Blade and Psi Gun will do extra damage to them though, so start with that, Bman and Purvis. Fightest and I will get in close and attack with Gungnir and Triangle Kick respectively (with me switching to Rune Axe from time to time. I think we should save Seven Sword for later)! If any damage is caused let Fightest cure small wounds and Purvis heal the big damage, and let Bman buff us once the Dunatis KAI comes barging in (he sounds tough). Any objections?

As the healer, thus the most important member of Team AXESOME, I'll be keeping behind the meatier party members.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to spend first round testing their weaknesses. Demonbman ought to use that Psi blade, to see what Mana-damage does, Okashii should try the Shogun's Fan for Agi damage, and Fightest with his Gungnir for strength damage. All on one target, need to get rid of them fast. Afterwards, people should switch to the damage types that work best.

As for my self, delay turn until the very end, heal if there's much damage, otherwise psi-gun the most damaged enemy.

I say we go all out with the XCalibr and the Fan's. T3 go for Mr. Weird-name with Dragon Spear, Y/Y?

So yeah, basically just go to town and kick the shit out of them.

Hmmm, yeah, that might work too. Triangle Kick does AGI damage too and is more powerful than Shogun's Fan. However, with the Shogun's Fan we can test if debuffs work on machines, so I'll stick with the fan. If debuffs don't work then I'll switch over to Triangle Kick. If AGI is most effective Bman and I will use Triangle Kick, if POW is effective Fightest will use Gungnir and me Rune Axe and if MAG is most effective you and Bman will use Psi Gun and Psi Blade. The ones without effective weaponry will use their regular weapons. Fightest will act as meat shield for Purvis, with Bman and I joining in if necessary (even though our DEF isn't very high). Purvis will mainly keep healing, only using the Psi Gun if it is necessary or if MAG is effective.

Gauntlet 1 members (For those that aren't scrolling up, that's Zengar, Rikter and Rabbit):

'kay, battle plan. Dealing with lots of groups, so group-targeting weapons would be great. Rabbit has Gungnir, which is great for this, and Rikter has XCalibr. Zengar and I are kind of in trouble, but given that these groups are going to attack in droves I think I might be best for the two of us to play Cross Counter and take out as many enemies as we can through counter moves.

Sound good?

Quite. Though aggressiveness on my part will have to be compared against how much damage the enemy does.

QUESTION!

Do we get healed between rounds? If not, I'll have to make sure we're in good condition near the end of this one.

We will be screwed if we don't get healed between rounds :V
With the fact we don't have any healers...
