That is a deadly bug, all the more reason to switch KCV.

In other news, I've uploaded a video summarizing my battles through E-1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNpcx0-0Td4
Started E-2 and it sucks having an HQ-level of 100+ but it's doable with support expeditions. I really wish someone had the numbers for the exact amount of total LoS and effective LoS you need. For all I know, I could be sacrificing damage for LoS I do not need.

Also, I need opinions on future plans on which carriers to take to MI and which to take to E-6. No CVLs to spare for E-6 and I kinda prefer the night nodes.
The carriers I have are
  • Akagi lvl 95
  • Kaga lvl 94
  • Souryuu lvl 78
  • Hiryuu lvl 77
  • Taihou lvl 67
  • Zuikaku lvl 46
  • Shoukaku lvl 45

Heads up for those that are currently participating in the MI campaign!

There has been a dangerous visiual bug that has been found out! Most particularly spotted in E-3!

Supposedly, if you use your combine fleets and take damage during the Aerial phase of the attack, there is a chance the damage will not show up.

And you will not know if your Kanmusus have been heavily damaged till you have reached the next node!

It is advised you use extreme caution when doing Operation MI maps!

Currently the Devs are aware of this bug and are currently investigating this problem. For the time being, they advise you to take caution when doing combined fleet maps, or to wait till an official announcement made.

For proof, here is the video that demonstrate the bug. (This guy is lucky his Akatsuki didn't sink.)

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm24201097

Once again, slow and steady has saved me some heartache.

I don't know how programming or implementation works but I think the devs would be totally justified in having an entire day to do maintenance for major events/new mechanics.  They usually end up extending the downtime for servers anyways, and it'd probably alleviate some of the issues with traffic.

Well, The Devs have reported that visiual bug has been fixed. So you should be able to participate in Operation MI maps without the fear of loosing a ship girl from a visual error.

From their explanation, the bug also apparently happened on rare occasions and sometime even misread when a ship girl didn't get his at all! So it was an uncommon thing to get what I shown you all in the video.

They also took the liberty to fix the night battle effects that occur from night battles with combined fleets in the process. So you should now see your star flares and the like now as well.

With this repaired I think I'll take the liberty to talk about Operation MI and the Combined Fleet System

As an important reminder Operation MI the second operation map you need to complete. Keep in mind like before, you will be able to bring ship girls that Do not have the Operation AL tag on them. So again plan accordingly! And once again, Kanmusus sent to Operation MI maps will not be able to participate in Operation AL maps or other event maps from the Summer Event.

For MI operations, you will need to organize 12 ship girls that you be sending out in 2 fleets. The first fleet will be the Carrier Fleet It must consist of at least 2 CVs and no more than 2 BB(V).

The Second Fleet will be the Escort Fleet it must consist of a CL in the Flagship position, several DDs, and you are welcome to put at least 2 CA(V)s in there for additional damage + LOS.

There will be 3 stages in MI. Which will involve invading Midway, securing it, and capturing it. Be ware of Abyssal Aircraft Carriers and Midway Princesses while you're at it. :v

There are several kanmusus you will be rewarded with both as drops and rewards here and they are as followed:

DD Tokitsukaze

DD Hayashimo (Drop only)

DD Kiyoshimo (Drop only)

CV Unryuu

(Note: Unryuu requires a blue print to get her Kai upgrade [which comes with a unique set of planes])

Good luck to all of those who attempt to do MI. I shall be doing it after I take a few days to prepare. I actually hear the first few maps are surprisingly easy.

Holy hell, after a bunch of unlucky runs at E-2, I got super lucky. First I had 2 boss kills in a row. I only had one other kill the other day. The run after that consisted of 2 perfect-S at the first 2 nodes. I get subs at the pre-boss which do only scratch damage. Then the boss dies another time. Inazuma and Ikazuchi were untouched. Suzuya, Choukai and Chitose took scratch damage. Chiyoda was red but she doesn't have any bombers anyway. With this kind of luck right now, I'm fully expecting a sudden surge of unlucky runs.

/Edit: Finished E-2 now. Used up 8k fuel, 12k ammo and 41 buckets. Steel and bauxite slightly rose. Gonna create and render the report video sometime tomorrow as I am not in the mood to edit or commentate tonight.

I've managed to hit the boss three times today with a kill each time. Would've been four but my laptop picked the exact time that I beat the last node before the boss to drop the wifi connection.

I'll be going at least three days minimum without a good computer while I bring my laptop in to get something I'm concerned about checked out, so it'll be tricky to get any progress done...

Man. I'm just completely unlucky this time around...

Finished E-1, and started on E-2, after burning through resources to get another recon plane, since I only had one Saiun before this. Thankfully, adding one plane was enough to get me to the boss.

Used Junyou/Chitose K2/Kumano/Maya/Hyuuga/Haruna for E1, now using Verniy/Shigure/Kumano/Maya/Junyou/Chitose for E2.

E-1 using A->B->K
Abreast -> Echelon -> Line Ahead

Apparent LOS: [39 + 23 + 24 + 41 + 51 + 51] 229
LOS by formula:  [sqrt(229 - 4*5 - 2*4 - 4*{6+6}) + 4*5 + 2*4 + 4*{6+6}] 88~89 - Radars in consideration (pick 6 and go)
Total (not net) consumption: 1.5k fuel/ammo, <1k steel and negligible bauxite
Spoiler:
because nobody takes B-route and just ends up going south
.not counting what was also from misinformation on english wiki and jp wiki for a certain time. add about 500 i guess
Support fleet: Aerial on boss (optional, used exclusively as a safety net and it was cheap anyway)

feels weird not using artillery spotting with (aviation) heavy cruisers
single night attacks too much missing, many c ranks

Alright, this is getting ridiculous. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting through E-1? After beating the boss three times in one day, I've literally had good runs destroyed by technical difficulties or the RNG screwing everything else up. It's usually my light carriers that get pounded, but on occasion Hyuuga will end up taking a bad shot as well.

Apparently, Thomas the Tank Engine isn't one to take crap from anyone.

Depends on which way you're going. I'm assumign you're going the South route, in which in that case, there's not much that can be changed. My only advice I can give is... Sparkle your Fleet and Pray! The rest rides on your RNG. You'll just need to hope you can hit the boss node and eventually win. There's not much else that can be done otherwise.

In the meantime, the MI-1 report!

E-3 AKA MI-1 The report is as follows. Because I did not take the "recommended suggestions" I suffered for it. Making my battles with the Carrier Demon hard. Get to her was the easy part.

Gaining Air superiority...was IMPOSSIBLE.

Mainly because I used 1 CVL and 3 CVs. Which is generally frowned upon. But with the lack of CVs for the final section, I couldn't toss out Souryuu for this. So I payed the prices and suffered when reaching the boss node.

To summarize, I spent 15k BAUXITE and 70 buckets. Just to beat the CV Demon! And on most occasions didn't always win. But I knew I could prevail so I pushed with all my might on this.

In the end I was successful and won. and the best prize I got from this?

Yahagi, I'm ok with this. At least my suffering wasn't for nothing.

Hah, I figured as much... I managed to get to the boss today, but I failed to kill her for the first time since the event started, only damaging her once. Seems like the RNG Gods hate me for some reason.

Needless to say, I highly doubt I'll be able to get far anymore. I've managed to keep my resources above 20k somehow, but I've used up over half the buckets I had, going from around 130 to about 60.

Man... I was really excited when I heard about Unryuu, but it seems like I should probably give up on getting her. At this point, I've resigned myself to just getting as far as I can before the event ends.

I know that feeling too, but generally, the best to do is to not give up and give it your all. You do have roughly 13 or so days left on the clock, that should be enough to get through AL if you read up on some of the strategies players have used to get through the maps. Hopefully you'll get some of those Kanmusus you've been wanting too since especially MI is a gold mine for rare kanmusus.

Anyways, I'm streaming again tonight, as I take on E-4. Here's hoping I can take on the Midway Hime.

A bit late, but somone on the wiki suggests that players relog/get a new API.  This is probably so that the bug fix is applied to our games, like how API players need to get a new one every month for Extra Operations so that the health bar resets.  I didn't even consider this applying to bug fixes so I'm glad I saw it in the comments section when I did.

In the meantime, the MI-1 report!

E-3 AKA MI-1 The report is as follows. Because I did not take the "recommended suggestions" I suffered for it. Making my battles with the Carrier Demon hard. Get to her was the easy part.

If you went A-B-E-G every time that'd explain why you couldn't get Air Superiority on the boss.  There was a player on the Kancolle forum that said they went the sourthern-most route every time with a CA/2BB/3CV composition on E-3 and killed the boss in 8/8 sorties.  I think node F is empty so I'm going to try this composition myself.  I think 3 CVs (and 1 fast CVL for E-4 to get to D from B) should be all I need for MI, since E-4 seems to kick you off to node E with 4 CVs and E-5 doesn't appear to have branching rules.  If I need to, I can run 4CVs and still have 2+ for E-6.

Only problem is I don't know which CVs to use for Mi and which ones to save for E-6.  I have all the CVs at 73~78 (Hiryuu/Souryuu Kai Ni'd) but I don't know where stats and where plane capacity would be better used.  I've already decided on running the 2CVL route but I'd like to have the option of falling back on 2 CVs if node H proves too difficult.

Thankfully I know which ships I'm saving for post-AL maps so I can start E-1 tonight.

should've reported yesterday, hue

while it was tempting to take the middle route for E-2, decided on southern with 2 DD/2 CA(V)/2 CVL
smooth until final/killing, wherein i poured over 7k fuel/ammo just to land the single kill, and that was coincidentally the only time that support (shelling) didn't decide to proc
in addition, i spent about 5k ammo/5k steel/equivalent proportion bauxite (1.5k?) trying to make a second sanshikidan
E also decided to roll the not-submarine on all but one of the sorties that required the kill to finish

resources sitting at 15k+ and replenishing hard, buckets around 250 and currently preparing for MI

on that note, with AL complete, i walk away with hatsukaze, tokitsukaze, and noshiro added to my ranks (in addition to the base rewards)

It's a fairly common bug where character portraits don't appear. This happened when I got I-168 and Junyou.

Trucking along through E-3, 3 and a half kills so far. Took a bit of a while stacking on planes and radars before I started hitting the boss reliably, since I only have 1 Saiun and 1 Type 2 Recon to my name.

Fleet is:
1: Kongou K2, Kirishima K2, Shoukaku, Taihou, Kaga, Akagi
2: Sendai K2, Kinugasa K2, Suzuya, Yuudachi K2, Yukikaze, Shimakaze

No rare drops so far, besides Amatsukaze.

On another note - holy nuts, this mission chews up bauxite. I'm using up 500-600 per run.

So I've tried E-2 once, but it looks like with even 269 LOS I've been sent away from the boss node (took the north route), with 2BBs, 2CVs, 1CAV, 1DD.

And I'm here scratching my head what exactly is the requirement to get to boss node at HQ level 54.

I went 2 CVL, 2 DD, 2 CA and hit the boss node via south route every time with absolutely no withdrawals.  Give me a few and I'll go into more detail.

EDIT:
Map: E-2
HQ: Lvl - 101
Total LoS: 324 (59 from equips)
Calculated LoS*: 114.27 (98 from equips)
Route: C-G-E-K
Formations used: Double Line, Line Ahead, Line Abreast, Line Ahead

Resources used: Around 4.5/5.7/1.8/0.8k, 40+ Buckets
Attempts: 8
Notable drops: Kiyoshimo (S), Zuihou (S)

Houshou Kai (Lvl 54) - Suisei (Egusa Squadran), Reppu, Saiun
Amatsukaze Kai (Lvl 61) - Type 22 x 3
Hamakaze Kai (Lvl 69) - 10cm HA (main) x 2, Type 22
Tone Kai (Lvl 54) - 20.3cm Red x 2, Sanshiki, Type 0 Observation
Choukai Kai (Lvl 53) - 20.3cm Red x 2, Sanshiki, Type 0 Observation
Hiyou Kai (Lvl 62) - Reppu Kai, Reppu, Tenzan (Tomonaga Squadron), Saiun

Full sparkles, regular support used, boss support used when boss changes forms.  The map gave me very little trouble with the help of the support expedition and getting the sub fleet on Node E maybe 2~3 times.  Oddly enough, the two times I failed to sink the boss were also the only battles when both my CVLs were unable to attack during shelling.  I was able to damage the boss enough on those two instances to only need 8 attempts to clear the map.  Fleet composition was to ensure that Houshou was protected and that the hardest hitters were saved for last during 2nd shelling/Night Battle.

*calculated LoS based on 2-5 rules, all plane LoS was doubled (recon or not)*

E-4 report video is up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-vGFLq7JCk

E-3 completed! Any tips for E-4?

From my personal experience, the south route is the easier route though going north or south is pretty much RNG. To even have a chance of going south, you'll need either Akitsu Maru in your main fleet or 4 DD in your escort fleet. Having a fast CVL in your main fleet is supposed to increase your chances of going south. 4 CV, 2 BB should really only be used if you don't have anything else available. Use sanshiki especially on your escort CA/CAVs. Support fleets should not be needed but if you have excess resources and you don't feel confident about your CA/CAVs getting the final kill, it doesn't hurt to use boss support though they may end up being useless.
