>Try as best as we can to ensure the wrench will fly past the humans, especially Miyuki and her leg, and let go before we burn our hand black.

>You do your best to wrench the wrench away from the corridor and then let go, tumbling unceremoniously to the ground and nearly rolling head over heels. You let out a groan as your leg is further battered by the awkward fall, and your hand still feels like it's inside a fire. You hear a clunk as the wrench hits a wall and its rockets sputter out.
>Wincing fiercely, you see the tengu crest the last of the stairs and disappear onto the deck.
>"Are you okay?" Miyuki asks, limping towards you.
>Ishi trots over and retrieves her tool. "Nice acrobatics there, Mousy."
>"Don't act like half this isn't your fault," Chisato mutters.

>"I'm not okay yet. Not until every one of them is off this ship."
>Take a moment to assess the damage to us before we get back to our feet. And the humans, they were fighting Kazuha while we and Ishi were dancing with that lead tengu.

>Shake our hand out and blow on it.

>You shake your hand and blow on it. Frankly, you think that only makes it sting worse. All things considered, it doesn't look in terrible shape, but the back of your hand is still distinctly singed. Dammit, this really wasn't one of your better ideas....

>Take a moment to assess the damage to us before we get back to our feet. And the humans, they were fighting Kazuha while we and Ishi were dancing with that lead tengu.

>You're... not feeling in great shape, frankly. You bear multiple shallow cuts across your body from the lead tengu's incessant wind blades, your hand is burned, there is a large discolored patch on your shirt surrounding the stab wound to your torso, and your knee and parts of your lower leg are slick with blood from the slash in your leg. You've been pushing these latter injuries in particular and they ache fiercely; your acrimonious reunion with the floor didn't help much, either. Your tail, at least, feels only slightly sore from the squashing and straining, and this is mostly lost among the other pains. For what little that's worth. In sum: it hurts to move, it hurts to not move, and you have a fundamental complaint with these being your only two options.

>Glancing at the others, they all seem to be faring somewhat better than yourself:
>Miyuki still shows no obvious wounds aside from her ankle, though that alone is nasty enough on a human and she's leaning heavily against a wall for support. Her face looks a little tensed; you wouldn't be at all surprised if this was stoicism in the face of pain.
>Chisato is a bit more roughed up, with a decent gash along her midsection and a couple other nicks and bruises, along with that strangely singed-looking hand. She looks more pissed off than pained, though, and her mobility seems unimpaired.
>Ishi looks completely fine, aside from having lost the top inch or two of her hair. Perhaps if she'd taken a comb to it this morning, she wouldn't have had this problem....

>"I'm not okay yet. Not until every one of them is off this ship."

>"Those birdbrains took over my engine room!" Ishi says irately, shaking her fist at the air.
>"How'd you even get up here?" Chisato asks, cocking her head quizzically. Then her expression sours. "And why the hell didn't we know about that net launcher? We couldda used that earlier, you know!"
>"Hey, I'd been meaning to get around to it..." the kappa protests.
>At this point, you hear the distinctive, if faint, sound of a wind cutter being fired above you.

>Drag ourselves wearily to our feet. Miserable condition aside, we're still under seige. And by harry, we ain't beat yet! Despite what our legs say.
>Look Miyuki up and down, then give her a small grin. "Would it do any good to tell you to stay here, before you permanantly damage your ankle?"

>"Wait, it does?" Ishi says, spinning around with a confused expression on her face. "Last I saw, she ran off into the hold with Sleepywings."
>You drag yourself unsteadily to your feet; this causes far more discomfort than you're comfortable admitting at the moment. Dammit, what the hell happened to this being a peaceful day for a change?
>"Not a bit," Miyuki replies with a hint of a smile of her own, weary though it may be.
>"Here," Chisato says as she moves over to her. "At least let me help you up the stairs."

>You hear another wind blade from above and then a heavy thud. That seems to finally get Ishi's attention.
>"And stay down!" Murasa shouts.
>The kappa's expression is nonplussed. "Huh. Guess it does." Then she bounds off up the steps. "We got issues, boss!"
>"C'mon," Chisato says as she lends Miyuki her shoulder.

>Much as we need to get topside, head towards the stairs at a reasonable rate. If we have to do much fighting, we're gonna need whatever strength we have left.
>Are there any weapons left strewn about other than the two kunai in or around the stairs? If so, pick them up as we go.
>"No offense, Miyuki, but, how did you escape getting cut by that tengu?"

>You make a note: a limb for a limb. You're not feeling in a forgiving mood right now.
>You make your way up the stairs at a much more casual pace than the sprightly kappa, being as gentle on your injuries as you can while remaining mobile.
>There is one kunai embedded in the stairs from your very first throw, and another fallen on top of them from your last. There's also Miyuki's knife, where you dropped it to catch hold of that damn death-wrench. More curiously, you also see a large blade near the base of the steps, attached to a short stump of a pole that is badly splintered. It looks rather like the head of a naginata. Did you want to pick that up as well?
>"Struggle like hell," she replies simply.
>"The damn dodos took over the engine room," Ishi continues expounding as she scampers up the rest of the stairs and disappears onto the deck. "I had to crawl through one of the- gaaah!" There is a small thud as Ishi's voice trails off in a startled groan.

>Pause when we can see Ishi, unless something more immediately life threatening happens first.

>You pick up the broken polearm head with your tail, but there's honestly so little of its haft intact that you can barely hold onto it safely, and its weight makes it quite awkward with such limited leverage; you're not sure how much use it'll be, like this. Then you scoop up your two kunai and pocket them, and take Miyuki's knife back into your hand.

>"Oww...." Ishi moans weakly. "Stupid dodolimbs!"
>"Get your butts back up here, people!" Murasa says. "We've got grapples to clear before they can land another squad up here."
>"Is the deck clear, cap'n?" Chisato asks as she puts an arm around Miyuki's waist and lifts her ankle off the ground.
>"Not for long, if we don't hurry!"
>You start quietly up the stairs, cursing inwardly at every second step. Chisto and Miyuki follow behind you.
>"C'mon, hustle!" Murasa says. You can hear footsteps trotting off towards the other end of the deck.

>"We're hustling, we're hustling..."
>Get back up on deck asap.

>Raising an eyebrow at Ishi's choice of expression, you groan an acknowledgment to Murasa and press your limbs into speedier service. You quickly ascend the rest of the stairs and step back onto the deck.
>As soon as you emerge from the deckhouse, you feel something cold and sharp pressed against the back of your neck.
>"Keep quiet," an unfamiliar voice whispers softly in your ear. "And no sudden moves."

>Look around.

>You scan your eyes over what you can see with moving. The deck does indeed seem clear of people, at least as much of it as you can see at the moment. There are smears of blood here and there across the wooden decking and a couple signs of heavy impact or scraping. There is, however, no sign of either Murasa or Ishi, or any tengu, conscious or otherwise. You can see a large tengu vessel hovering some distance off the Maiden's starboard side; you think that was the one you heard referred to as the Skyfang. Actually, check that: you can see a couple tengu, on the deck of the other ship, as well as someone else - a different youkai of some sort, maybe?

>You stand still, and try to gauge how far above you your mystery assailant is. You don't know how long her weapon is, or how it is being held, but her voice seemed no more than foot or so above you.

Hey, don't mind me, Kilga.
Although at this point, I'm not sure it matters what one or both of us does. If I'm right, then the only way that tengu could have got the drop on us, and that Ishi didn't warn us, is that Murasa's betrayed us, and the pirates have won. Either that, or they've beaten Murasa and one of them can imitate her voice.

>Keep still, then.

>Your assailant makes no acknowledgment of this.
>You start to walk around to the side of the deckhouse. The point of her weapon remains pressed against you as you move, and you can faintly hear someone shifting around atop the deckhouse itself.
>A new voice speaks out loudly once you start to move, coming from nearly the same direction as your assailant. "Nothin'. Just my leg."
>"You'll get time to rest once we're outta here," Murasa says. "Hustle!" ...her voice is also coming from that spot.
