Does the stock game run fine?

What is tgtaspec.img for anyway?
tgtaspec.img is an additional file I inserted into the load process for character module files, which modifies specific NPC and cutscene models to a different version. For instance, in the default installation Mima is Big Smoke but if you install the Moriya version it'll be a Suwako in Big Smoke's outfit.

This is a continuation of the alternate character versions Squidtentacle had in his version of the mod, except that by making this modular, the download size is greatly reduced (his version had 8-10 gta3.imgs that resulted in a 17GB download D:).

You can keep the mod files fine by moving them to another directory, and then reinstalling the stock game.

One of the easier ways to check is to find a savefile online and test it. Many will be marked as v1 or v2 explicitly - if you load the save and it crashes, chances are you have the other version.
HOWEVER, this check will not work with TGTA; it includes a v1 script file by default. So reinstall the game from scratch first.

v3 (digital versions, including Steam) is much easier to tell - it'll display a v3.00 on the bottom-right corner in the main menu.

In regards to region...when TGTA is loaded, it'll display an 'EU version detected :(' on the upper-right corner of the splash screen (this does not affect gameplay and stability according to Sparda). Plus the EU version has 5 language options as opposed to 2 for the US one.

Either way, you're going to need v1.00 to run the mod.

One thing I must add - if you haven't already, delete colormod.asi and bullet.asi from the GTA main directory. They have known problems on XP/2003 and possibly other GPUs too that were 'patched' in 1.6.1, but remain stupidly if you upgraded from 1.6.

This does not affect 1.6.7 and future versions, as those are meant to be installed on a fresh setup and not on top of an existing TGTA install.

I don't understand, i copied tgtaspec.img to my GTA SA directory and when i play a cutscene CJ is still CJ. Do i have to rename it or something? *I still didn't got the model files to work.*

That probably means the anim/cuts.img file is still a stock one, because that file determines which models to load during a cutscene sequence. Are you certain you installed this mod properly?

Well i'm using Windows XP and Gta_sa.exe is in the main Directory...

Stock = vanilla. Basically these are unmodified and came with the game out of the box.

something is weird about when i installed this mod,help mo please:
1.i installed only the first half of the models so i didnt have the CLEO scripts(the second half was corrupted for me,full size....)
2.i cant go outside,it crashes.i need to kill myself first....

Only thing I can really say concerning gta3.img is that its larger size may be causing memory address problems for the system (especially on yours, given the Intel GMA), but I don't think that is the case.

Considering that both are needed for a lot of the mod features, replacing them with stocks isn't such a good idea.

I might suspect stream.ini and/or salimits.ini could be involved in some way, seeing that several users had previous problems with those.

So downloaded it, but got up to the mission Home Invasion I tried it like 5 times and it crashes when I finish it(sometimes when I start it). Getting tiresome. Any idea how I fix it?

Make sure the CJ model is active when you undertake any mission that involves outfit changes (Home Invasion, 555 We Tip, Key to Her Heart, Breaking the Bank at Caligula's), as well as any burglaries (probably dates as well, reason unconfirmed). Reason being that it changes his outfit, which causes conflicts if the current player model is not CJ.

thanks for the mod the only things i worry about is at night time it generally very dark alot dark than the original i had to increase my laptop brightness and in game brightness to be able to see a reasonable distance, and it the application closes itself randomly, its really fun though, still try to learn all the spell card short cuts. thanks for the mod, the cuts scenes are absolutely hysterical :D

Brightness - delete colormod.asi if it's in main directory, and replace timecyc.dat in /data with a stock version.



Mod progress since the last post: getting closer to a release version. 3 of 4 radio stations I intend to complete for this are done already, and currently I'm re-redoing the cutscene model file calls to facilitate character module creation. A good number of bugs and complaints with 1.6.1 - audio crashes, time cycles, et cetera - have been addressed in some way.

thanks solved the problem completely cheers :] im running on 7 i only originally kept the color mod file in originally because it stated it only affected xp version just give you a heads up

Erhm Hello (Hopefully someone can answer me few problems I've got). I have Downloaded the Mod and installed in this order:

0. Downloaded GTA:SA from Steam
Intalled:
1. Main Data Files
2. Audio
3. 1.6.1 Update
4. Models
Exe:
5. I have downgraded my gta-sa.exe Launcher to v1.0 (Through this tutorial: LINK)
6. Then I have set the gta-sa.exe's compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2 (I have Windows 7 64b, and the read-me says that xD)
(When I start my GTA:SA it says in the top right corner "EU version EXE detected :(")

But when I click "Start new game" it loads and then crash, "log" file is here:



If more info is needed just ask.

Sorry if I'm broking a forum rule (Like have a bad English xD) I'm new here, I just wanted to try the Mod. If someone can help me, Thanks so much!

Delete trafic.cs in the CLEO directory. Sometimes it causes problems.

Whilst you're in that directory, I'd also delete HRE and realT, at the least.



1.6.7 progress report:
 - Re-redirected all cutscene models to mostly stock equivalents. As 1.6-1.6.1 was based on Squid's 1.5, all the pointers were found to have been adjusted by him to absurd values (eg. CJ was cshnki) that made character modules a pain to make. Now they are stock names for all but CJ's cutscene model.
 - Moved modded files in cutscene.img to tgtaspec.img for convenience of modding. Thus the former won't be overwritten on an install. The way I implemented it, though, does load all cutscene models in both - so loading time is up a small bit, and streaming memory settings are now 768MB to prevent model crashing.
 - Core radio for this version is done, auxiliary sampler stations underway
 - Still no CLEO 4 support as I can't get it working for bizarre reasons with even a handful of plugins

I have replaced Stream.ini with yours, the game now loads the "Intro escene" when I skip it (yay progress) then shows another error:



My "AMBIENCE" archive weight is 54,520KB
My "tgta_audio" .RAR weight is 1,707,768KB
My "d3d9.dll" weight is 164KB


(I dont know if is a download problem and also I dont know why all archives are on blue instead of black)

I was having some problems.

I am running a windows xp computer with service pack three, and i didn't install the music.
Any ideas on what to do?  :derp:

Remove Colormod.asi, bullet.asi, and use the stock stream.ini I attached a few posts back.

Radio may still crash as IIRC I packed in the modded track lookup file - either download and install the radio, or place a stock TrakLkUp.dat in your audio/config directory.
