There's basically no doubt IMO that they're going to figure out a way to return to the alpha timeline. However, it might be as simple as "WHOOPS JOHN POOFED BACK AND CHANGED SOMETHING, new timeline!"

Also, I wonder when Hussie's going to return to the Jade/Calliope thing that was going on right before the gigapause.

My instincts tell me that it'll take more than John's retcon-powers. Doomed timelines follow the rule that "anything that happens, stays happened", inasmuch as a doomed timeline happens when something/someone/some information travels back in time to the Alpha Timeline from within the doomed timeline and changes things, whereas John makes things un-happen without any information coming from the alternate timeline (c.f. the argument between Dave and Grimbark Jade), and I think we've spent a little too long in the current doomed timeline, and too many things of consequence have happened, to just "erase" it like that.

Also there's that one panel where John harasses himself to go see Roxy. There's probably something significant about this doomed timeline and a reason behind why only John and Roxy are left in the end (along with their planets)

Maybe something to do with Roxy's spawning things from the void powers + John's powers

No, that's not a rule; sure, you -can- make doomed timelines by doing this, but there's also things like Rose and Dave coming back from the doomed timeline where Vriska tricked John into getting murdered by his denizen and changing stuff up. Rose merged with her alpha timeline self or whatever and gained a bunch of knowledge (iirc? This might be horribly off mark but that was literally years ago), and Dave became his own ghostsprite.

Doomed Rose merged with Alpha Rose shortly after Dave went back to stop John.

I remember that bit, and I think Rose had mentioned gaining Doomed Roses's memories during one of her dialogues with Kanaya, maybe? I'd need to go reread them.

OK, I've figured out what my actual problem with "John going back and retconning things" was: just about every time John did something, Andrew edited him back into previous panels. How the hell would he do that without giving things away for archive-readers? But then I remembered that he didn't do anything like that for the offshoot where he interrupted Dave and Jade, only the "original" conversation where he didn't interrupt..

Actually... back when it happened, the second time when John interupted Dave and Jade, the previous part was edited to be interupted too. Then, when John interupts himself and stops himself from interferring, it was edited back to the original state.
