Vividred Operation (ビビッドレッド・オペレーション Bibiddoreddo Operēshon? The story is set in a futuristic and peaceful world made possible thanks to the invention of the Manifestation Engine (示現エンジン Jigen Enjin? On the island of Ima Oshima (BLUE ISLAND), Akane Isshiki lives a peaceful life with her family. I have watched episode one and cannot believe how this show has captured my breath even with all the similarities to some anime of the past, combining everything from cute talking animal advisor to mahou-shoujo esque henshin sequence. The show reeks of Strike Witches, and feels a bit like Nanoha meets Star Driver in an epic showdown of Godannar-style storytelling. So far I been very interested, and I am sure to be watching this to the end thanks to the direction of the art, which happens to include Redjuice himself (of Guilty Crown fame) on board.

Meh, don't see it happening. Seems way more Nanoha than Madoka, honestly. If anything, might end up being the thing that puts the pieces of the genre back together after Madoka took it apart.
...Although that last bit is probably just overly wishful thinking on my part. But oh well, at least when the Sailor Moon remake comes out that'll achieve that goal anyways.

It's nowhere near Strike Witches levels, if that's what you're asking. I think this one's trying a little harder to have an actual plot.

Yeah, despite what the promo art might make you believe, it's not like you're having Akane's ass shoved in your face every three seconds. There's fanservice, yes, but it's at a tolerable level that doesn't really get in the way of actual plot.
Besides, at times it got so awesome I barely noticed any of the fanservice due to it being eclipsed by the magic boomerangs and giant hammers. ^___^

Woah. I knew what he was talking about and I wasn't trying to equate homage to butts. This show revolves almost completely around taking themes from other genres, popularized archetypes and cliches. You can pretty much well expect a show like that to want to use fanservice as appeal, especially considering both the mahou shoujo and mecha genres are well-known for fanservice. Sure it isn't something that's required in an anime, and of course many people have an aversion to shows with gratuitous fanservice. But if you're going to veto an anime just by how many tits it throws at you then it would be silly to start watching knowing it has at least some and then complain about it later.
That being said, I'd say there's more than your average anime, but most of it is pushed into details rather than being the central point of a given scene. The latter is something that really bugs me and shows that the studio can't really pull it off. The former at least acknowledges that the anime comes first and any fanservice comes after, so not only is the fanservice done in a subdued manner, it shows that the studio respects their own project. In general. We haven't had a scene where it's like a minute of a bug crawling into underwear or flopping boobs being able to outspeed bullets yet.

I doubt she's dead. I think they're just trying to play into our expectations of this show turning into a bloodbath. Incapacitated or maybe even crippled is possible, though, leading to either combinations between the other girls or SUPER MOMO.

But yeah, it's too late for this series to go that route, they've already established different themes (also the writing in this show isn't good enough to handle that kind of tone shift correctly rofl). I'm just saying that from the first episode you can't be sure what to expect, especially with a series that didn't have much information released about it before it started airing.

Wakaba/Himawari is cute, though, even if I still think they should totally go for the Momo/Wakaba/Himawari route in the end.
...Seems like I was the only one who actually liked that episode and thought it worked where it was placed, seeing all the negative reactions I've been seeing. Honestly, something light and fluffy was needed after the last two episodes. It was a good chance to cool down, and might actually end up being a sort of calm before the storm depending on how things turn out this week. But we'll see.

Well, I guess the last episode recovered from the missteps of the previous few. The last fight was definitely pretty satisfying to watch, and I think I might have teared up a little bit during the final scenes.
Overall, the series was... at least enjoyable? I definitely stand by the opinion that the characters and action sequences were brought way down by unnecessary fanservice, but there's at least enough good points that I don't feel like I've entirely wasted my time like I did with last year's Symphogear.
It's no Nanoha (and that bar is a hell of a lot higher now with the recent movie) but it was at least a good watch on its own.

Last episode completely delivered all expectations and redeemed the past many episodes. I guess that counts as a success. Was definitely not expecting a FINAL PUNCH though, delicious.
Overall rating of series: Eh
From the first episode it was pretty clear how the whole show would be laid out. Covered all the basics but really staled its whole middle section. Wasted quite a few episodes, which for a 12-episode series is really just bonkers. Could easily have been done better, and probably could have been written better overall by fans. That being said, it did awesome in pretty much everything it actually tried to get right. So, yeah. Eh

Very, Psycho-Pass ended up pretty incredible even if it wasn't the mindfuck people were expecting from Urobuchi. Quite happy with it and tbh I want it to continue.
