I can't seem to run the demo...what file do I click? I don't see any executables, and the batch files dissappear after a second.

I think it's win32 or win64 depending on your OS

You need to have Java 6 installed. If you still get errors: Open the .bat file in notepad and add a line with the word "pause".

I was thinking an NPC who'd be a "rival" for Sakuya. Maybe a late boss, kinda like Lady in Devil May Cry 3 ... Though the more I think about it, the more I feel kind of opposed to the idea. Shouldn't we be worrying about more important things first?

I wouldn't worry too much about that, personally. It's doing "Castlevania (i.e. no particular ties to canon), except with Reimu and sort-of Marisa." We're doing "Touhou (i.e. fan-created backstory of canon), with a Castlevania setup."

Just means we've got to be a bit more original.



On that note, the game design still has a few holes (what kinds of magic besides throwing knives does Sakuya get?) and things that are semi decided but only appear in this thread. It would be better if we put concrete design proposals on the wiki. That'd also protect against loli-Belmont thread derail :P

Note: Google code wiki's can only be edited by project members (but non-members can add comments to pages). Anyone can PM me with a google account email and I'll add them as a member.

Google code only allows project members to edit the wiki, so I need to add you as a member first. But I need your gooogle account email to do that...

In appreciation of 09/09/09 I've put together a new (Cirno themed) release.



The test stage of older versions has been replaced by a small snow stage with Cirno as the final boss. All new content has been created in the span of maybe 3 days (thanks to the awesomeness of my level editor and the awfulness of my art).

Yes I can (I did the little sprites in the F/SN minigame you saw) but I'm not a pro, so you'll have to give me an example and might have to touch them up here and there ^^.

I'm just wondering for the atmosphere approach we're doing, I was randomly brainstorming for enemies and even asked someone to help me and we came up with dumb but funny concepts, then I just realized. Are we going to work on a serious tone here like Castlevania or the cuteness and fluffiness of Touhou?

Let's not take ourselves too seriously. Part of the appeal of Touhou is its cast of weird characters.

Hm if that's the case, it should be easy. I'm going to post the enemy concepts that was given to me, but I was thinking that due to the fact we shouldn't have original characters, I thought about how to recycle the cast. For example:

Meiling a lot of show time, such as in the entrance and garden boss
Patchouli and Koakuma is in the library
Dungeon for Flandre
Remilia for the Dining Room, her room, then the clock tower.

Then for the stages it'll be,

The gate entrance -> You can't get in the front door due to the barrier even after defeating Meiling.
Find an alternate entrance by going through the garden, just as soon as you found out a way, Meiling comes in again and stops you. You can wander about the mansion, and you can either go in the dining room first and face remilia but can't proceed on for a while as you will need a key then fight Koakuma and Patchouli in the library and get thrown to the dungeon or the vice versa.

After this, should we include puzzles? What achievements should we have? One thing I could think of is having a complete the map achievement by roaming around the mansion and unlocking special rooms.

For weapon upgrades, I was thinking you get different kinds of knives and the ultimate weapon would be some magically enchanced knife or something that breaks after the Remilia final boss battle or something!

I recommend not doing any achievements or anything yet, just wait until the game's practically done before including 'em.
