Vocaloid Thread 2 - Ballad Of The Eternal Senbonzakura
« on: April 26, 2012, 11:03:32 AM »
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zllvWqVQGck - This was originally uploaded to the internet in October. To this day it remains in the Weekly Top 30 Most Watched Vocaloid Songs (aka the Weekly Vocaloid Ranks)

There's a 3 week old thread but I don't want to bump it >.<

Anyways, Vocaloid, I guess I don't really need to explain it but I will anyway - it's a series of voice synth programs that are super popular in Japan, in a nutshell. I'm a big fan, and I try to keep really up to date with the music.

Useful links:
http://www.nicovideo.jp/mylist/9352163 - An updating list of released Weekly Vocaloid Rank vids. (Youtube users upload these, but it's not as reliable; this is the Ranking Video Creator's updating list.)
This link optinally, does a tag search for the newest one if the Mylist isn't updated.
http://www.niconico.com/vocaloid/ - The official English Nico page for Vocaloid
http://www.youtube.com/user/VOCALOIDrequest3?feature=g-u - A Youtube user who uploads new Vocaloid videos pretty diligently.

Regarding Nico, you need an account to watch the videos, although if you sign up on the English side, you're still good on the Japanese site, I think. (I signed up before the English site went live, though, so I dunno)

<Tengukami> If you don't have a Nico account you can always use the Redirector.

Yup. They even seem to be in it with Reddit (as their front page would imply)

Anyways, currently my favorite songs are:

Both are really catchy - my style of music.

Wow I've been out of the Vocaloid scene for a while. Last time I was really into it Mozaik Role was the huge thing (2010?), lol.

6th highest overall in terms of points on NicoNico on their Vocaloid Rankings. I don't know how exactly that translates to views, but it's quite a number. Surpassed Ievan Polka not too long ago, but it still has to beat Double Lariat, Meltdown, and Martyoshka. Pretty amazing for a song that was only made last October

EDIT: It has 3.2 mill views as of this post, to clarify. To put in perspective, Ievan Polka has 3.4, Black Rock Shooter has 4.7, Disappearance has 5.0, and Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru has 9.5 million.

Not vocaloid related, but The song hasn't been exclusive to Vocaloid either.

Revolutionary PVs that show up once in a while always make it to the rankings.
This song has been stuck in my head since I first watched it, christ. It's a darn good song, and the visuals are outstanding.

Lots of deja vu this week, a ton of songs that were popular LAST month managed to claw their way back up into the top 30 again this week. Even Sebonzakura got a healthy boost in views.

Guess the pickings this week were pretty lean?

video.niconico.com/watch/sm17720979 Last Note's new song is pretty cool, too.

I can't get CosMo's new song in his 星ノ少女ト幻奏楽土 series out of my head! There's something addicting about this song...

Spoiler:
I find it amazing how those electrocardiograph sounds flow with the song so well. The song's sad but her rolling 13 somehow makes me want to lol.
Really love the setting of this series, but it's so hard to fully understand these songs.

Anyone know the complete plotline of the Kagerou project? I thought it was just Kagerou days and Konoha no Sekai Jijou but then I found out Headphone Actor was related too and damn where does this plot begin and end?

I'm guessing Jin is teaming up with other producers to make more songs in the series using IA or something?

e: actually it's more like remix/remaster than continue but still cool

Fanime got a Vocaloid concert.

It... was okay. I won't say mediocre, because they tried and the company (it wasn't Sega, it was some indie company, mikubook.com) apparently got rejected by Fanime at the last minute, so they had to rent out the local theatre. The live human dancers were... well, they were half-assed as if they were embarrassed or tired, no live instruments (understandable, given the size of the theatre), the screen was kind of wacked and blurred in the middle (again, size of theatre), the song selection was small, the MMD modelling wasn't as great as Sega (yes, beggars can't be choosers), and given that they sort of had to do this at the last moment, it's understandable.

Still can't help but feel disappointed.
