Q.雑魚妖精について、メイド妖精等に個別枠を設けてもらえませんでしょうか?(1/12追加)(looks like they're still discussing this, for the record, it seems to be discussing fairy maids and the other... lesser known characters)
A.固有名詞の無いキャラに関しては、種族毎に同一枠とさせて頂きます。

A.固有名詞の無いキャラに個別枠を作ることができない理由は、もし個体識別が出来ないキャラに個別枠を認めてしまった場合、

Q. Can't I vote for yukkuris?:yukkuri:
A. Get out.
I cant read a damned word of it and google translate aint helping. :/Use the Touhou Wiki dude.
Touhou Wiki does not help reading the various things in the general survey, though, at least not the stuff that is not completely self-explanatory.Of course not. That's why I'm waiting warmly for someone to translate the survey. But the Wiki can get you through the character and music sections.
It aren't the same things as last year's poll, either...
4. ???? (I have no idea!)That question is something like...

AN ORDEAL FROM GOD is such a damn good song.
WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS SONG?! :qq:
Hmm...It's been almost 24 hours and I still haven't received my voting ID. I wonder if I screwed up somehow?Check your Spam. Alternatively:
Ironical that you can vote for Seihou songs but not for VIVIT. :fail:Ironic, yet it's justified BV

Poor Kikuri... :qq:

Utsuho fell two spots, but Nuclear Fusion went up one. I'm satisfied. Also, yay for Marisa finally being back over Sanae.
Yuuka, what the hell... This makes no sense to me whatsoever. None, I say. Was there some big doujin I missed that featured her recently or something?
you missed ''lotus land story'' made by zun :VShe was in the top 10 before, that's fine by me. But the jump she made seemed a bit ridiculous, the major reason being who she jumped ahead of.
Man, people really missing out.And to think, I can't stomach StB or DS because of the photograph gimmick in each of them, yet GFW is my favorite of the x-point-x games BECAUSE of the gimmick, and it's nearly the exact same gimmick! Oh, the difference repetitiveness makes.

so we're not allowed to be fans if we suck at shmups?
oh okay
way to misinterpret it into one of the most offensive things i could possibly say you butt
We actually had less votes this time around, with more people owning more games than before. Yet even still, the overall skill level of all the touhou fans who voted, has gone down over the past year. Besides that, Friends, Video sites and Music are the top reasons for how people found Touhou. Of course you're not going to see many clears when people first start out (a year is a long time to improve though), and that isn't a problem. But what else is that aside from Music, those reasons haven't changed much compared to last year, which means "how many people just started" likely isn't a big factor in why the skill level dropped. I mean you can attribute it to whatever the hell you want, but seeing the numbers drop instead of increasing over time, is saddening.
Also people get better at shmups through lots of practice. We don't suddenly go "oh hey look Touhou" and beat Lunatic in a week. "We suck at shmups" only stays that way because you aren't bothering to get into it in the first place, drop it because you don't see results immediately (being a relative term), aren't having fun (in which case why are you voting in the player statistics section to begin with if you don't play the games), or you reeeeeally just aren't suited for it for whatever random reason you want to come up with. It isn't some magical game genre that only a select few can play because they're just awesome like that.
Unless you count Jaimers.
Vote for your top three Touhou works:...not that I want to start a fight on this again, but with all the IaMP vs SWR/Soku fights that break out in the western fandom (and the seeming general favouritism towards IaMP)... it's kind of interesting to see that IaMP doesn't carry that love on an international scale (Nevermind being the least beloved of the Windows games).

The fandom subjectively being more fun than the games doesn't mean you can't be a part of the fandom if you play the games, and vice-versa.
Although yes, it's likely way more people are in for the fandom than for the games. Like I said though, if you don't find the games fun and thus don't play very often, why are you voting in the player statistics section? Not saying you're restricted from voting, but why would people bother commenting on the games if they don't play them?
The game-specific votes are counted by the people who DO play the games; if you selected that you don't own a certain game then it doesn't count your votes on said game. Even if you do talk about people who don't play the games often, about 90% of the people who voted have more than three games. If they don't find the series fun, why are they buying more games?
On average of all the Windows games, 75% of people who voted own any given game. Most of the people who vote actually do play the games somewhat, at least enough to keep buying the games, but the overall skill level of the fanbase has gone down. Nnnnnnn.

or that the fighting game players aren't interested enough in Touhou to bother with the poll :pExcept... Hisoutensoku is a fighting game as well, and it placed pretty well!
really, IaMP deserves more appreciation than this. To quote someone on GFW, people are missing out.
Touhou wiki is your friend.
And Mokou drops every year >.> I'm so not pleased.
maybe it's just that SWR/Soku are much more accessible at first than IaMP
maybe it's a clue that SWR/Soku is deserving of some more love from the west than we've been giving it in the past.
why, exactly?I just see IaMP vs SWR debates always leaning quite clearly to one side over here, when it gets brought up - if it comes down to the choice, it seems like the western fandom prefer IaMP (Or at least the people interested in these debates clearly do). But, when put into comparison with the whole of the fandom, it's suddenly the opposite. And I doubt that such a huge gap can be explained away purely by accessibility, either - it's a pretty massive gap, afterall.
Either way, like I said: people need to give a serious shot to whichever one they don't like as much (Or both, if they've been ignoring 'em). Clearly there's reasons for people to still prefer IaMP... and clearly there's reasons people love Soku.
I still don't quite get why Broken Moon is so popular when IaMPs title screen theme is not. It is also by far the highest ranked touhou song that is not actually made by ZUN.
I don't understand why Broken Moon is in 12th place (I suppose people like a happier and bouncier remix of the title theme?), while Suika's actual IaMP theme, Missing Power, is at...79. Is there some mind-blowing remix of Broken Moon that I'm missing? This. I mean it when I say I love Missing power much more than Broken Moon, so I don't quite get it.
This. I mean it when I say I love Missing power much more than Broken Moon, so I don't quite get it.As do I. It was one of the songs I voted for, so yeah.

Seriously WhatIf people think the songs are only "decent" (or worse, but this goes against the point that I'm arguing), then they're obviously not going to receive votes because the 7 other votes are going to go elsewhere. The lower down the list you go, the murkier the ranking actually becomes. Honestly I'd probably only look at the top 50 or so before stopping and wondering why x is so low. This uh, "effect" also applies to the character ranking, again with the heavy restrictions on the voting.
- While the figures do look low, have you considered just looking at only the Western Touhou Community itself? Would the proportions be approximately the same? Just so you know, I'd say that there are about a dozen (or x-and-a-half, at best but this is reeeeeaally stretching it) that have 1cc'd UFO Lunatic.
88 79 - The Eternal Steam Engine 682 Soku:akihawhat:

And I doubt that such a huge gap can be explained away purely by accessibility, either - it's a pretty massive gap, afterall.I'd bet that part of the reason that debates are so one sided is because, having lost, SWR players aren't interested in arguing over it. When I last saw a debate on the matter it was both hostile and technical and I wanted no part in it.

I know I didn't before it was pointed out in this topic. :derp:

Anyway. I have never seen any surveys exclusive to the western community aside from that survey you made once so i can't really say anything for sure. All i'm saying is that i'm surprised that so few people have 1cc'd MoF, SA or UFO on Lunatic because i had gotten the idea that the japanese would be much more serious about it.That survey focused on the regular players, not just the community as a whole. So naturally, that numbers would be skewed much, much further toward the "high" end.
That survey focused on the regular players, not just the community as a whole. So naturally, that numbers would be skewed much, much further toward the "high" end.And that was because I was using free services [max 50 people], maybe I should consider putting just a little bit of money in and see what we actually get, hm?
Overrated my foot. For each of the characters and songs I prefer, I have come up with a number of reasons why I enjoy them as characters/songs by themselves and in comparison to others. It's just the way I learned to think. When someone tells me that X is popular without plenty to back it up, my immediate response is to think that X just isn't nearly as impressive as people think. I'm not a fan of a lot of different things, but when I'm told why someone enjoys something so much and there's plenty of reasoning to back it up, my impression is "this is just not my thing" instead of "this is something I just can't support". I have PLENTY of reasoning behind my choices, so when someone doesn't respond with a lot of reasoning for their own favorites, I'm not impressed. I don't want to associate with someone who enjoys one of my favorite characters exclusively for sex appeal. It's a base and shallow reason for liking anyone.
I like how you people drop the word "overrated" while a vote is a singular subjective choice of one person. There is no media hype (aside from possible passive influence). Just because you think the song is overrated, doesn't mean it is.
On a serious note. Even if septette is derived from Beethoven, probably that is the cause for it being valued a nice composed piece of work.
What kind of surprised me and makes me wonder is: Where did the mass popularity for Yuka suddenly came from?
Yuka fans: for those who find Flandre fans too serious and mature.Beside homocidal tendencies I don't think Flandre and Yuka have much in common.
Maybe an answer from an actual Yuka fan would help?
I think the better question is: Why wasn't Yuuka 3rd in the previous polls? She seems much more popular than the MCs IMO.I thought she much more popular before as well, which also raises the shock value of her popularity. I mean, I thought the Yuka craze was dying recently while I've noticed much more notice on Koishi. Well for Yuka...apparently not.

When I say something is "overrated," all I mean is that the praise doesn't equal the content. As much as people gush and squee about Septette, at the end of the day, it's a fine theme and a well-composed piece, and that's about it.Ah I see. I agree with the same. It is a fine theme, but that's about it indeed. It is not like THE BEST theme for me. I don't have #1 #2 etc theme in Touhou. Hence I did not even vote for anything. I enjoy a lot of pieces composed by ZUN.
Although please bear in mind I'm not trying to objectively prove the song is overrated - it's all entirely subjective. I do really like Septette. I just don't see it living up to all the praise it gets.Point taken. Questionable indeed why Septette is getting praised so much. Is there anything known about this? Word from ZUN perhaps who might be also wondering?
Septette will ALWAYS be overrated as hell because of great arrangements. NO ONE WILL EVER CONSIDER THE ORIGINAL MORE THAN OTHERS. Jesus, I mean, the arrangements of Septette are USUALLY AMAZING, but can't deny the fact that the instruments kill the original. It DOES have great composition though, but I know there are MUCH better out there from ZUN.When ZUN composed songs for EoSD, he did not had the same quality as for latter games. Therefore any arrangement or fan re-do of any EoSD songs would sound better. If Septette would be remastered by ZUN himself, nobody knows if it would be better or worse. Sometimes, some things are best left in their original state.
Hah!:smug:
I will seriously never understand what's so great about Cosmic Mind, as to me it sounds like the theme to a 90s mecha animeThis. It's kind of plain =/
*going technical on music*Someone once told me that Santana was a shit guitarrist because he only used simple techniques a 5-year old is capable of. I just laughed and went to do something else.

You see, music is art, and as such there *are* several devices and techniques, of course, to be used in the process of conveying the emotions the composer wants to pass on, but in the end those are only devices, with no hard science to sustain them.
It's the end result that determines the quality of a work, as in how well those emotions, feelings and ideas are contained in the art piece.
I'm going to (assume games are a form of art, because in my opinion they are, and) take as example GTAIV and um, Portal, or even the Touhou series itself.
Three examples of games that have touched me and left a mark, great works indeed.
The difference is that a fuckton of people, among programmers, designers, sociologists, dubbers, even radio DJs, was necessary to finish GTAIV as it is, while Portal was developed by just a small team, and as we know the main Touhou games are done by a single man.
What I'm trying to say is it doesn't matter if Septette and the 3rd movement repeat the same 8 notes all the way instead of going super-elaborated, or what not.
They're successful in conquering people's hearts, that's what art is about lol. There's definitely something in Cosmic Mind that doesn't appeal to me but people go crazy over too.
I think I said way more than I intended :derp:

- Great music: Flower Land is crazy catchyIt's okay, but I never really liked it (meaning I would listen to it out of the game) until I heard this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtCUuHCHKnA) arrangement.
It might be easier to just throw Outlandish Blooming Rapport at you and everyone else for why I love Yuuka, but I'll try here anyway.
Yuuka is awesome because (in no particular order):
- Neat character design: PC-98 outfit looks like something you'd expect of a gardener, and the Window's outfit is simple yet elegant.
- Visually appealing figure: I am of the state of mind that there's no real harm in objectifying 2-D women as long as those tendencies don't spill over into affecting real people. Nor do I think liking a 2-D woman for her visual appeal is necessarily a bad thing. All that being said, Yuuka's pretty damn hot. >_>
- Great music: Flower Land is crazy catchy and Inanimate Dream is awesome (and its Sengoku Gensokyo remix is absolutely flooring).
- Power: sup Double Spark while half-asleep (also notice how StB and DS avoided her entirely)
- Demeanor: I'm actually not really one for the psychotic characterization. The Yuuka I love is the one that knows just how amazing she is and does things when she wants to because she wants to and knows she can get away with them. Very straightforward and down-to-earth; everything is what it is. Civil and gentle, and willing and able to stick a laser up your ass while the warm smile never leaves her face should she decide you deserve it. Go play Sengoku Gensokyo or read Tag Dream or Four Season's House (or OBR <_<) to see Yuuka acting awesome.

The implication that either Flandre or Yuuka are murderous psychopaths is like a spark in the pool of kerosene for my frustration at the Touhou fanbase. That's not really what I meant even if it's a common interpretation. Yuuka and Flandre are just more likely be depicted murdering someone then say Lily White or Marisa. It doesn't help that in canon Yuuka jokes about genocide and Flandre accidentally the humans enough to stay locked in the basement.
Anyways, everyone knows that the best theme will always be Haigoku Lullaby.
Sanae's UFO dialogue and all killed herReally? If anything, it made me love her more, and her attitude in it seemed to spawn some reasonably popular memes.

How Evil Impoverished N*** Zombie Reimu got 1st in three polls straight is what I'd like to know.Um, perhaps because she's the main character of the series?
Um, perhaps because she's the main character of the series?
I used to think that was all that mattered in these polls, but after seeing the treatment she gets in many newer doujin I sort of revised my opinion. Everything I called her in my post is something one fanwork or another made her our to be, which makes her still getting the #1 spot a bit baffling.Every doujin I've read involving her pretty much centers the entire story around her so IDK what you're reading.
if I gave off the impression that I meant something else.It did, a bit, but I was just mostly using your post as an opportunity to say that stuff, because I've wanted to say it for a while :V
Evil Impoverished N*** Zombie ReimuGreat horrible memetic view you have of the series's core character.
did you also notice nobody even took a second glance at gfw, with only a 59% play rateI was really rather disappointed in general that GFW didn't get a better reception. The bullet freezing trick worked so well and was plenty of fun to play around with.
Cosmic Mind is great I'll be honest, but the only thing that I always feel from the original is that for me it continues to climax to something that I'm expecting something real epic to come, but it never comes :<
did you also notice nobody even took a second glance at gfw, with only a 59% play rate
... I'm guilty of not trying GFW =/DS is StB redux. If you liked StB, then pick up DS. If not, you're probably better off without it.
e: Or DS, for that matter.
I myself didn't liked StB, but liked DS a lot. :VI found the system was highly improved and the spell cards were easier to capture. I can get to level 10 in DS, but I'm having a hard time getting past level 7 in StB. I think it also has to do with the improved bullets that have a more defined hitbox.
Also, Yuka's popularity might be caused by this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq29WcecvVY)?
High quality pv staring Yuka and her theme. I'm so glad they used Inanimate Dream. I've been dying for a great remix of it.

On a maybe random note, this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrAstZlN1m0).Nah, that arrange is several years old, so it cannot explain a rise in popularity in the recent year. :derp:
I mean, It kinda makes sense.
I very highly doubt any one single video shot Yuuka's popularity so high she hit #3 over the likes of Marisa, Sanae and Remilia.Hear hear.
