I would think one of the bigger concerns for people that do this is gathering clues as to what their partner is interested in receiving. :-Welcome to every Secret Santa ever.
I would think one of the bigger concerns for people that do this is gathering clues as to what their partner is interested in receiving. :-\That's pretty much the point of a Secret Santa, to find out what you think will be appropriate, or deciding to just go with something random! It tends to work pretty well on a smaller forum like this, because people tend to know everyone else better than on a larger forum (or outside of CPMC on this forum). Some people just seem happy to any gift though.
I've done these before on message boards, it's fun!It wouldn't be "you people," it'd be two people: Vic and the person sending you things.
Though if I do this, I'm giving my work address not my house address. I don't want you people knowing where I live -_-
I've done these before on message boards, it's fun!I'll edit the rules with this, but the only people seeing your address would be myself and your partner, they will never leave the board.
Though if I do this, I'm giving my work address not my house address. I don't want you people knowing where I live -_-
Can our secret santa gift be a danmakufu script? For the CE, I suppose it can. Try to make it about your partner, or their favorite Touhou character I suppose.
:3
For CE, does it have to be a poem, or just a literary work?It can be whatever you want it to be.
If its the latter, I just had a marvelous idea.
Too many people don't wanna spread the festive cheer?Too many people are loooooooooooooooooooosers!
I know what I'll be giving if I do participate, but it's part of a work in progress so I can't be certain it'll be totally done for the 20th. I'll definitely try to enter anyways, just saying I probably won't enter until like the 17th, if I will in fact enter. You can send the package whenever you want, the 20th is just the deadline to sign-up for the exchange. I suggested sending off the packages in the first week of December to give them a better chance of arriving before Christmas.
As long as the person is in North America I think things should be okay. I'll probably just give the address I'm at right now as opposed to the permanent address. Then just say "no" to the "willing to ship internationally" on the application. I'll be making two groups: those that don't want to ship internationally and everyone else. As long as it's an address you check the mail at regularly (daily is nice) you can give whatever address you want.
Can the people with a 4 week delivery time get their target early?Yeah, I'll pull yours a week before everyone else. That going to be enough time?
OH NO TWO PEOPLE WILL KNOW MY REAL NAME AND THEY'LL KNOW WHERE I LIVE AND BECAUSE THEY'RE ON THE INTERNET THEY WILL PROBABLY RAPE MEWell, considering the Ijiyatsu thread recently, this is probably true.
OH NOESSSSSS
Yeah, I'm kind of disappointed with the turn-out so far. There was another forum where we did a Secret Santa thing and even though there were less members in that forum than this one, almost everyone participated so it was a success. People are worried about far too much which is kind of surprising. It's supposed to be a fun thing. The weird thing is that no one is saying anything. No one has asked any questions, so I have absolutely no idea what people are doing. Even a quick post of "Not me" is better than silence :/
Well, considering the Ijiyatsu thread recently, this is probably true.I haven't read, what happened here?
Maybe you should unsticky this thread for now. It's not up to me, but it might gather some more views
I think people don't want to have to write a haiku just to enter CE.I had the haiku in there because, in my mind, if you really couldn't be bothered to write a simple haiku, how would you be able to complete anything else for the CE.
And I welcome any of you to spend the money to come to South Africa to try rape me. I'll even pick you up from the airport.
Then again isn't the deadline like 2, 3 weeks from now?I like to think so, but it would make me feel better about myself if I had more sooner ;_;
Most people are procrastinators if they can be, I'll bet you get a whole crapton the last day of submissions.
I like to think so, but it would make me feel better about myself if I had more sooner ;_;
I was apprehensive at first before I realized I'd rather strangers on the Internet know my mailing address rather than the company where I work. One can do more damage than the other and thus my hat is in the ring.
Keep in mind, people, I have a real job and access to all kinds of wonderful stuff. You know you want a MANLY GIFT for your MANLY KWANZMASUKAH.
Wait, I missed something that had a haiku requirement?Feel free to submit a haiku with your application, I just took it out in vase it might actually be the thing preventing people from entering.
That's terrible. If I enter the CE, I am totally putting up a haiku anyway!
The weird thing is that no one is saying anything. No one has asked any questions, so I have absolutely no idea what people are doing. Even a quick post of "Not me" is better than silence :/
Not me then. Even if I knew you guys IRL I probably wouldn't do it because I'm stingy
Not me then. Even if I knew you guys IRL I probably wouldn't do it because I'm dumb like that.Noted, thanks for saying something at least.
I'm in for the gift exchange and the creative exchange.Groovy, PM your information as laid out in the second post.
OK I WANT IN BUT FIRSTYeah, that's a question for N-Forza's thread, because that's not how a Secret Santa works.
I have a question for Vic and others for N-Forza :V
Vic: Could I like, get something from Japan via our beloved friend N-Forza, if he's okay with it, of course, and have it shipped directly from there to the person I'm giving the gift?
Taxes in my country are absurd, and would make it impossible for me to take part.
N-Forza: Is it possible to get something japanese, cheap and cool/cute for like 50 dollars, including shipping?
I tend to think all my ideas are stupid :V
Yeah, that's a question for N-Forza's thread, because that's not how a Secret Santa works. You didn't get it. Shipping stuff in and out of Brazil is a pain in the a**.
Secret Santa is when you are randomly assigned a partner, and you will put things in a box and ship it to them; someone else will do the same for you, and you will have no idea who is sending your package. It seems like you're just trying to buy something.
You didn't get it. Shipping stuff in and out of Brazil is a pain in the a**.You can't choose what you want. You can give suggestions and maybe your partner will get them for you, but there's no guarantee that you'll get anything you want.
Stupid protecionism, etc. What I thought of doing is picking whatever I want to give to my randomly assigned partner, who will most likely not live in Brazil, and send it directly to him/her, without having to import it first or buying it here.
It's really hard to find japanese stuff here, and even if I did, it would be too expensive to be rational.
It does not defeat the purpose of the Secret Santa.
I'm sure he means I buy from an online dealer and have them post direct to my partner. It's up to the partner. Personally I think it spoils the spirit of Secret Santa, but I'm not exactly opposed to it. I just don't want to be held responsible if the partner doesn't ship exactly what the other wants.
You still didn't get it, did you Vic?Wait wait, you're shipping from online to your partner? If that's the case then knock yourself out. Your previous posts led me to believe you wanted your partners to ship things to you.
What I'm saying is, I buy online or with N-Forza's help, and shhip to my partner. He/she will still not know who he/she's getting the gift from, and nor will I. It doesn't change abything at all, except the fact that I won't have to afford over 160% of taxes, and my partner won't have to wait from one day to 3 months because of shitty brazillian customs office.
Wait wait, you're shipping from online to your partner? If that's the case then knock yourself out. Your previous posts led me to believe you wanted your partners to ship things to you.I meant I ship from online or Japan to my partner.
Those are two completely different things, be more clear next time :P
Unfortunately, now if anyone gets something from N-Forza for someone, that'll be a biiiig hint as to who their secret santa is. :VI always assumed that a Secret Santa was sort of semi-secret. It wouldn't be outright OBVIOUS who you got paired to, but from what you got you could make a decent guess.
Unfortunately, now if anyone gets something from N-Forza for someone, that'll be a biiiig hint as to who their secret santa is. :V
Unfortunately, now if anyone gets something from N-Forza for someone, that'll be a biiiig hint as to who their secret santa is. :VUnless more people do it, or N-Forza enters, or the person doesn't know if the package was sent by N-Forza :V
Unless more people do it, or N-Forza enters, or the person doesn't know if the package was sent by N-Forza :VI'm not going to apologize for a minor misunderstanding, sorry.
Also Vic, you owe me an apology for thinking I was a childish ⑨ trying to get advantage of others, when I'm a cool, honest guy. :V
I'm not going to apologize for a minor misunderstanding, sorry.I saw this coming. The Sonic Divers were always cooler anyways :V
I mean:
:dealwithit:
SIGN-UP!
Then again, *I* was going to use N-Forza for my package too! Or was I? Maybe i'm just trying to mislead? Or then again...
If anyone receives socks, they're mine, and your partner is Pesco.
FTR I'm posting tomorrow. You're also posting today :V
You're also posting today :V
And yesterdayNyo ho ho
Also more people need to sign up because as of last count 25% of the participants for the gift exchange live in the same house and I'm not sure if it'll be incredibly lame or incredibly awesome if MJP and/or I have to send something to the other via this.
And I still don't have excuses from anyone not signing up, save one.
What's also surprising is that no one from the Moderator team has posted in the thread at all, save Letty, but I already know that he isn't participating. Considering that this is being run on their board, one would imagine that they would at least acknowledge it.
- Secret Santas require a group of people that have easy access to actually getting the gift from the giver to the receiver. That is notably not the case with a world-wide spread of internet forumites. And yet they work so incredibly well in other online communities with far more widespread individuals.
- Secret Santas require a group of people that know each well enough to know what would be a good gift and what would be a bad gift. We may socialize off and on but we don't spend every day together, so we don't know each other as well we could. What if you buy candy for a diabetic, for example?Who the hell would send candy overseas? :V
- Secret Santas require a group of people that have easy access to actually getting the gift from the giver to the receiver. That is notably not the case with a world-wide spread of internet forumites. That was already nicely organized by our friend Vic.
I don't fault anyone for not wanting to participate, nor would I expect anyone to have to come up with an 'excuse' if they chose not to.Really all I want is feedback. I used excuses as a catch-all term, but since this is my first experience running a Secret Santa, I wanted feedback not only on rules, but what people thought about Secret Santas, issues they had, why they would or wouldn't enter it, things of that nature so that I could try and accommodate them. When I first made the thread, I was fairly disappointed at the lack of interest there seemed to be. There seemed to be at least a fair amount of interest in some kind of inter-forum activity, so I thought up the Creative Exchange in an attempt to bring in more of the user-base. I had been very enthusiastic about running it, considering how active and involved they become on other forums, but turn-out for this has been quite tepid.
That said, it'd still be nice if we had a lot of people doing this. But hey, even if it's just a small number of people who choose to participate, it's still going to be fun for us, right?
Hey, don't count me out just yet! It's just taking awhile to put my CE piece together.Awesome. I'm not joining CE because I'm too stupid to get something nicely done in time, but still the whole idea is really cool.
I'm not entering until I'm sure it's perfect, so wait a little longer.
Hey, don't count me out just yet! It's just taking awhile to put my CE piece together.I'm not counting anybody out. This is still going on, regardless of how many people sign-up, I was just making a follow-up comment to what Nobu~ had written.
I'm not entering until I'm sure it's perfect, so wait a little longer.
Am I supposed to say something else as a moderator or did you just want one of us to demonstrate some forum camaderie? I mean, I only run this place still 'cause I haven't found an exit strategy.Nah, you don't have to say anything else; any new post = threadviews++
Watashi no application wa in.Definitely
edit: Also, this thing needs more activity

In response to the people saying CPSS is a bad idea, I don't see what the harm is in trying to pass on a little goodwill, if only because right now I need to have some faith in mankind not being complete assholes more than ever. They're all Scrooge. Maybe the Three Secret Ghosts of Secret Christmas will visit them, possibly in secret.
Is anyone opposed to Vic joining gift exchange? Because i'd like to see him be able to participate if he wanted to.
Well, there could be some kind of randomization method where Vic himself wouldn't even know who was who? I dunno. I didn't even think of the that, Arashi. :(
Fixed that for ya brahGJ
19 gift exchanges so far, right? Quite a few, imo.Only 11 gift exchanges, the rest will be exchanging stories/art/love.
Oh, and Vic should join if he wants to, even if he knows who he's sending the gift to.
Also, an option would be if an odd number of people join.
Only 11 gift exchanges, the rest will be exchanging stories/art/love.Stories/art/love are still gifts, right?
Since no one will be direct partners (If A sends to B, B may send to anyone except A) then it won't matter how many people sign up.Uh, I shoulda thought of this. My Mathskillz are pretty pathetic today, sorry.
When is the deadline for sending your stuff for CE?You must have something submitted by December 24th. If you can submit before then, please do.
Cool reminder:
26:00
Cool timekeeping system broI prefer that system to saying "2 AM Saturday" because you would be amazed at the amount of people who assume that it actually means Sunday at 2 AM.
That time system confused me so much when looking for anime air times. It catches people's attention, so they read the entire thing. And then they sign up hopefully
I still don't get why you would use it. Just use 2:00 Saturday.
I'm not in any position to think of a new thread title right now, so I'll change it when I wake up.
Vic, how soon after this ends will you have the partners submitted? I'd like to have it before I leave on my trip. :3Probably by 03:00 EST on Saturday.
Don't you mean 27 o'clock Friday?I do, but it seems like most people here hate math :V
I do, but it seems like most people here hate math :V
CPMC
QuoteI do, but it seems like most people here hate math :VQuoteCirno's Para-Military Crew
Military people don't like math.
Your point? :V
Military people don't like math.I already do?
Oh, and from now on Vic should report time in the 0000 Hour format.
I only got a PM with my gift partner, will the CE ones be assigned later? All PMs are sent now, I divided them up and sent out Gift first. CEs should be in by now.
And are we advised to send our gifts first week of December rather than ASAP, or is that just a deadline?
