PC-98 Style Remixes
« on: August 09, 2011, 08:52:12 PM »
This is my first post on MoTK, although I've been hiding in the shadows for a while. Anyways, I'll be making PC-98 remixes of some of the Windows Touhou songs. Why? Because PC-98 music is awesome and I haven't seen a thread like this yet.

Embodiment of Scarlet Devil:
- Locked Girl ~ The Girl's Secret Room < Now that I think of it, this one might need some work.

Mountain of Faith:
- The Gensokyo The Gods Loved (FMPMD instruments)

Constructive criticism is welcome, I'm still new to the PC-98 style.

These are nice, but they don't feel "full" like ZUN's FM compositions.
You might want to sacrifice 2 channels to emulate a pad. The FM channels are the best at this, but you can use the SSG channels too if needed.

I also noticed that you aren't using PCM drums. Any reason for that ?

Agreed with Bigode that some melody areas should be cut off, especially thirds and fourths of chords, for pads in background.

Also, no PCM drums...feels a bit empty.

While using ZUN samples is nice, I would really like you to try making your own patches by adjusting the properties of the LFOs, waveforms, and sound output track pattern.
