No sound effects in 12.3

Hi, I've been playing 12.3 for a few months just fine with patch 1.10/English translation, but the sound effects stopped working a while ago (music is fine though). I've tried reinstalling the game and wiping out the config files and the profiles but it didn't help, and I'm not sure what could be wrong with it :s Does anyone have an idea? Thanks!

You sure you totally wiped the data out before the reinstallation?  Remember, on Vista/Win7 the files created by the game that are owned by your user account don't actually live in Program Files but in the VirtualStore folder (as seen here).
