Denied. I'm working on the frontpage code right now. Just took me a while to get my VMWare Server key @_______@;;You're welcome~
Plus it looks like we're going to get 6-9 inches of snow so I have a loooooooooooooong weekend to hack on it.
You're welcome~
Feature request/possible bug: a "Mark as all messages as read" link/button on the main index. The other SMF forums I'm registered with have one, but it doesn't seem to be accessible with this theme. I was able to achieve the same thing by copying the the MARK READ link in a subforum and replacing "sa=board;board=3.0" with "sa=all", so it seems that the functionality is already there but isn't exposed. You can click 'Show unread posts' and then 'Mark all read' to reach the same effect. That's how I do it.
You can click 'Show unread posts' and then 'Mark all read' to reach the same effect. That's how I do it.But that requires an extra click!
Polls are very much disabled for a reason. They were abused in a prior incarnation of the forums, and they're likely gone for good.
I feel sorry for you TSO/Yagami Hayate. You do so much hard work, while I can't code worth squat. I'm gonna say this, cause I might take your work for granted. I don't know exactly what you have done for this site, I don't even know who is in charge, but thanks for everything TSO. I mean it, thanks! Whenever I notice mention of you, their is also usually mention of you working hard, so I thought I may as well thank you.
Back On Topic: I can't really think of a new feature for the site, except maybe a vote thingie, like the Vote of the Day thingie from Gamefaqs.com, just for Touhou stuff.
Hierarchy wise I guess the mantle has been passed to me as supreme dictator. Katchura is the original owner of both #shrinemaiden and MoTK, but it looks like I'm about what's left now for the admin staff /o/. I've basically been the dork screwing with the forums and delaying the front page for about the past 4-5 years.Have you been the only admin left for the past 4-5 years, or just been primarily doing technical work during that timeframe?

A (hopefully) simple thing:
a bookmark Icon for the site. Does not even have to be fancy, maybe just the common 'this subforum includes stuff you have not read yet' coloured yin/yang symbol.
This is as usual probably impossible but
I was thinking, many people belong to more than one special group, but only one tag is visible above the avatar(for obvious reasons, a stack of tags would be stupid and messy), and so the most we can identify of a person's groups is two, considering the username color, like Matsuri is right now. Pink name for Acolyte and blue Global Mod tag.
What if all the custom titles showed in the profile page, and not just one? Then again, this isn't a very important thing, and I doubt it's possible, but

Since CPMC is now available to all users, why is it still hidden? kinda hard to lurk before posting when you can't see it while lurking.
Not worth my time and effort tbh. I would have to completely redo the profile and group display system to allow multiple "primary" groups.Thought so. Well it was just a small stupid convenience, it wouldn't make sense if to implement it is too hard.
Is there any way to bring back collapsable [*code*] blocks? Posting large code blocks is making things hard to navigate and adding absurd amounts of vertical space, plus you hardly ever need to see so much code on the screen at one time.
Maybe there should be a chatbox. We already have an IRC channel with a web client, see here (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,16.0.html).
Alright. And the second idea?
Guess I'll take that as a "no" then.Isn't that basically the same as publicly posting your e-mail address? I can't say that sounds like a good idea...
LATE EDIT: Would it be possible to add a Gmail/Gtalk field to Forum Profile?
I don't allow the members to choose their own themes because it's enough of a pain in the ass to get one good theme together. Having to debug issues across multiple themes and having to make sure changes I make don't break them is just a nightmare.
I don't think people realize how much time it actually took me to get that CPMC theme together and working properly. All I did was take http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=2072 and tweaked a few colors, it couldn't have possibly been that hard right? Wrong, it took me about 3 hours to get it to where it is now. And I wasn't even doing anything fancy, just changed the colors, and I wasn't even trying to make it look good.
Now imagine me having to do that to every single subforum, while hearing complaints about how x sucks and y needs adjusted, and then having to do that again if I change something in the underlying code. It's going to be enough of a pain as it is to port the layout changes to the RC4 update I was hoping to do (but now I lack the motivation) this weekend.
------> How about "Option to see original usernames instead of display names?" It could be a cute little check box~So... Yeah.
But then again, it might be a hassle to get this to work?
Been talk of this in CPMC, but it may as well go through the official channels...So... Yeah.Hassle, and IMHO putting it in the profile is good enough.
I wish you can comment on profiles. Why not? Do you want your appreciation for their profile to be openly visible to everyone? In that case you could just post about it in the cpmc talk thread or something. Now, your comment will get flushed away quickly, but people only rarely stick to their precise profile for that long.
Basically, I like praising others' avatars and signatures, and I don't want to send a PM. I'd like to post a comment on their profile instead.

A GameCP/Arcade?Uhh how about no?
How about a Trash Bin board to move the threads locked for whatever reason?
This way the boards won't be as crowded with non-worthwhile stuff.

How about a bullet reading thread.Pictures are largely useless for this.
Someone posts a pic of a bullet pattern in touhou.
And the people who know the pattern can say how they would read it/ move through it.
It'll give the newbies and the pros a different view on how other people play.
I can't really pick any patterns to start off with.Sorry buddy, noone is going to make the thread for you. Make it yourself if you think it's such a grand idea.
Can someone pick a pattern?
Lotus Land Story scoreboard please.Sapz is taking care of making PC-98 scoreboards, please wait warmly~
I lost it, or it'd be there :|I suggest an artist challenge to create the new bookmark icon. :moogy:

How about you submit some built in avatars to the forum. I could really use a picture for Utsuho R.How about I don't and you get your own avatar?
Or maybe that's just for those who don't know how to get an avatar from other websites.
The "search for members" function is case-sensitive, with no option to turn it off (that I know of). Very minor complaint, but would it be possible to change it?It's how the database works. I can look into making it case insensitive but for now I'm working on general search engine updates.
Silly suggestion: Rename Mystia's Stored Games to Mystia's Game Storage.MSG is better since Mystia is fingerlickin' good :3c
MGS :3
Oh I hate you KoL people :(
MSG is better since Mystia is fingerlickin' good :3cI like this train of logic :3c
Be my guest, you code a giant theme and I'll get right on that.
April fools is over. I got a suggestion for next year's suggestion. How about everyone gets banned on April Fools day claiming that they got banned forever, then they recover from their ban 1 day after that. Just make sure to keep the perma-banned perma-banned, and the probated probated until the date.Uh yeah something similar was done last year and that did not go well at all, to say the least

This place has a propensity of overreacting very poorly to any sort of joke, AFDay or not, and I am not going to waste time and effort to get bitched at.
Really the only people on staff who are extensive STB players are Sapz and Matsuri.
I'd like to see some sort of anti-bumping system to prevent old threads from suddenly appearing as "new" ones. This could be done by simply causing a thread to become bump-proof after a certain amount of time has elapsed since creation. I've seen this idea used on some boards, but it's pretty rare these days. I don't know if it's going to be easy to implement.
Many of you have problems with "necromancy", the act of reviving old threads on a forum. It works by using a loophole of allowing old threads to be bumped, which is easily abused for baiting other users into rage. The method I describe above will help to prevent aged threads from climbing back up, while keeping the board fresh and up to date with new content.
I think Koakuma's Grand Bookstore (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/board,34.0.html) should be made viewable to non-members.
I'm not sure if this is something to take up in the library or here, but it seems kind of silly to lock guests out of the completed fanfic section of the site.
As one of the people who have stories in Koakuma's, I much prefer having the stories not visible to non-members. If people really want to explore completed works of fiction on this site, they can make the minimal effort it takes to join.
I believe the intent was to prevent Google from indexing them, but I could be mistaken. They're not supposed to be invisible to guests, actually. That is something that should be fixed.
By the same token, how about "Ignore thread" or even "Ignore board"?
What about if you made a thread or about to make one, and you can set it's visibility to anyone, all members, all members above 3 posts, all members above 10 posts, specific members, Idiot Princesses etc. But any post must be visible to admins or shrine janitors or Staff Members, people like that.
By the same token, how about "Ignore thread" or even "Ignore board"?I don't really use the Unread Posts function, but wouldn't the Ignore Boards option under the Modify Profile tab of your profile work for that?
It's not a major issue or anything, at all, but my Unread is cluttered with threads I don't follow and never will. Would be neat to have a way to tidy that up without having to hit "Mark all as read" over and over.

Any ideas to view spoilers easier on mobile devices that don't have cursors to view spoilers?
Tapping spoiled text on my Android 2 Global reveals it.
The least you guys could do is refill the coffee in the hallway coffee machine. Seriously, that stuff's like sludge right now. I'm not saying you need to go all out and buy a cappuchino machine, but man, seriously.
Though it's possible to implement in SMF, we've purposely avoided a facebook/reddit-style like/dislike system. We find it discourages people actually posting their opinions and thoughts on various subjects, opting instead to click a button.
Please refrain from spamming in the future.

Wow. If this is what happens when a guy tries to have a little fun around here...:colbert: :colbert: :colbert:
Well when I get some time and a chance to breathe and fix my server I'll definitely look into it.
H-hi, I'm new here. I'm trying to get acquainted with this place. But, uh... is it OK if I ask here?
These captchas are really hard to read sometimes... so it's a bit obnoxious to try to make new posts...
The captchas are just for new members like me, right?
Perhaps a full list of smilies?
Since I first stumbled upon this site, I've found at least half-a-dozen smilies that are not found when posting. (I.e. The one where Yukka is strumming a guitar with the mouse-over text saying Yukkuri Shitte Ne!)
This already exists, actually. Click the [more] button directly under the smilies that are already there, and you'll find all of the larger ones. Click those and it'll insert them into your post wherever the cursor currently is.
The one you're speaking of is :flowerpower: anyways or something I believe. Though, the mouseover text reads "Thanks, Ruro!" when I check it.
This one, right?
:flowerpower:
there are actually a few that aren't there either like :akihawhat: and :comedycentral:That's because while "retired" I haven't turned those emotes off :b
Perhaps a post count? As a guideline for length of time on the forum or something like that.http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?action=stats

I still cannot get over how I have the most topics by far.Spammer.
And having high post count means nothing about the time span a user spent on MotK.Exactly. That's what the Most Time Online stat is for:
You can achieve a high amount of time online by simply never closing your MotK tab.I'm pretty sure you need to be actively browsing the site in order for your time online to count. (IE. opened a new page or clicked a link or something within the past 15 minutes)

Why not add a search button/bar/link right here: http://imgur.com/jrdZrc9
(http://imgur.com/jrdZrc9)
So I wanted to talk about a certain game so I hopped on over to Akyu's arcade and realized "Boy I sure should search if there's been any threads about this game" I then went looking for a search function and couldn't find one. Turns out it was up at the top of the page. I'm glad because for a second I thought the only link was on the front page of the forum.
In order to streamline this process I was thinking it might help to add a link to the search function (preset to search the current forum & its sub-forums), or even a search bar (again, preset to search the current forum & sub-forums), somewhere between the header and the content of the page, and perhaps most appropriately, next to the "New Topic" button.
AHHH! How do I format? My picture is showing up as a broken link. What does that mean? Can it at least salvage the situation by including a link to the picture? Reddit has an expandable "formatting help" bar, which might be worth implementing. Additionally, what about buttons down at "Quick Reply" area and here in the "Modify Post" view, that send the user to the advanced editor.
Bold |
[b]bold[/b]
Italic[i]Italic[/i]
ect.ect.Could you add a "Search This Topic" box/function to the Reply/Notify/etc. bar?As long as it's a topic you've posted in, you can search for the keyword in Show Posts on your profile. That's what I've been doing anyway.
So far when I've needed to I've just used the Print function then searched the page but I think a topic search would just be a bit more convenient with the proper formatting and ability to jump to certain posts and such.
Feature request: Being able to press ctrl+i/b/u for italics/bold/underline tags in the editors. I dunno if it works in other browsers, but it does not for Chrome.Works on FF for me.
Now I dread to use bold text, because they are indistinguishable from a visited URL link in appearance.Wow, I never thought I'd see the day someone would suggest that.
Can we have some differentiation between the default URL and bold text? This has bugged me since coming to this forum.
No thanks, I'm not implementing a karma system so people can rub eachother inappropriately. As nice as it sounds this isn't the best place to do it.
Exactly. That's what the Most Time Online stat is for:If Ammy took this data on the same day he posted (March 14 2014), today is the 342nd day from then.

And Dormio, as we know, actually lives in a space station orbiting Neptune with nothing else to do but post on MotK.So, when SMF registers a new message by Dormio, it happens ~4 hours after he presses "Post"? And then it takes another 4 hours for replies to fly back?
Yeah but seriously, displaying that stuff under your avatar or something as a badge of honor would be weird.I discovered MotK's badge rule: quality over quantity :derp:
So, when SMF registers a new message by Dormio, it happens ~4 hours after he presses "Post"? And then it takes another 4 hours for replies to fly back?
8-hour lag seems like a great deal.
He must be using predition magic to post ahead.
He must be using predition magic to post ahead.
Dormio has access to FTL tech that we mere mortals will never understand. It's a combination of both, really.
Also, how about a thread where (usually new) members can test out bbcode? Is "preview post" too advanced of a move for this?
I have yet to see a serious pollThe favourite font one had real consequences.
Aside from dodging permabans (which some troublemakers might do), I recall users making new accounts to forge new identities which is pretty cowardly. Then again, the forum I hailed from has its influx of immature "teenagers" every now and then. :VDodging bans is expressly prohibitedwait that was another community. For other purposes... well, what use a second accout there would be of? I have yet to see a serious poll, and approximately everything about an account - including login, nickname and forgotten passwords - may be changed with admins' help.
Would it be possible to increase the character limit of the report post to moderator thingie a little? I realize my english isn't very good and having to shorten what I'm saying must make it even harder to figure out what I'm really trying to say... I would like to make my reports as clear as possible to avoid any possible misunderstandings, specially when there's illegal (or questionable) stuff involved. This would be nice. What say you, TSO? Is it doable?
I also think it would be better if it worked more like a regular post, with line breaks and all like vBulletin's report function, but I assume that would be hard to implement if it's possible at all.
https://www.youtube.com/user/KarisaMirisameThen remove everything up to and including the last "/" so the link is functional. That might be a good convention for most of the profile links, actually.
