Title: What is this? [Touhou 10 Question]
Post by: Alice★f on March 24, 2010, 03:36:56 AM
HINT [Off, On, or Auto]

What's that? It doesn't look like it kills your FPS like Slow Mode PCB...
I checked on Google, and I got a bunch of crap. (Hints for Touhou games, cheats, etc.)

*Just to clarify, "Hint" is an option when you choose to change the game settings.

From what I remember HINT allows the game to read in an input file of some kind and thus draw on your screen.  You can use this to draw in hints for yourself (i.e. move here, safe spot here, next wave starts here, etc.).

Or so I'm told.  I'm not sure if anyone has actually used it beyond figuring out what it does.

LOL, I'm stupid. I don't understand this Toohoo feature.
Seriously, I can't...

What would Auto mode do then?

At first, I thought it was like some sort of thing where the game draws a line telling you where to run when you're having trouble dodging instead of slowing it down like in PCB.

Update:

Quote from: Wikipedia
Mountain of Faith comes with a unique feature that allows  players to show customized text overlaid on the playing area. The  feature can be set to auto, where the game automatically alerts places  where the player had died before with a "Caution!" note. The player can  also edit the hint file to show personalized notes at certain places and  times, making it possible for simple play-along strategy guides to be  made and distributed with "Nico Nico Douga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nico_Nico_Douga)-like interactivity".[1]
Not sure what this means, though. How would one go about doing this?

Update #2:
It seems like the game tells you "You died here last time don't die here again" lol

So that's what it does.  I was seeing all these random "Caution!" prompts flying across the screen during Stage 4.

This I must see, if only to imagine Utsuho sirens flying around a peaceful mountainside setting.

I'm curious as to how helpful these are considering RNG-based changes, etc.

You enter Misayama's Hunting Ritual.

"Oh man, what hint did I leave myself?"

*The entire screen fills with wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww*

FFFFFFFFFFFFF

Yeah, I can see why the option was dropped in later games. :P

Or you could make it for someone who never played the game before...

Tried the hint mode thingy...

It's kinda meh... The text doesn't grab your attention. I can't see it when I'm playing. It's just a little red block of discrete letters. (Depending on what you make it display, though.)

It's pretty tiny, kinda ugly too. =/

Change the scale to 2.0.

Won't be so discreet then.
