Touhou Challenge-A-Week Thread (lunatics only)
« on: November 22, 2009, 04:34:15 PM »
So recently I had an idea.

Each day on this thread, somebody posts a new challenge for Touhou. It can be anywhere from Clear Stage 1 UFO above the PoC to Capture Hourai Jewel no Vertical.
If possible, post a replay of your best attempt. I won't be forcing any difficulties onto anybody, so you can choose the difficulty you want.

Does anyone else want to do this? You can post some challenge ideas until I decide that people might actually want to do this. (I also don't have any ideas.)

ONCE.

I'd be up for that, but on a weekly basis. I'm forced to play on a laptop during the week, and my god laptops' arrows do suck :x
I'm sure there are a lot of other people that can only play during the weekend, so I propose a weekly challenge as well!

You know, it would be better to have it be a challenge-a-week

I'd be down for this, and I agree that it would be better to have it a challenge per week, considering most of us have jobs or school work to focus on.

It either has to be small scale like 'Clear IN stage 3 without dying/bombs' or 'Clear stage EoSD stage 5 pacifist' so people can do it daily.
Or big scale on a weekly basis, where challenges become a lot harder. I can guess people will have trouble clearing a certain stage above the PoC with only 1 day time, but a week would be fine.

I'm totally up for this. As right now I decide myself which game I play each day, but it would be cool to just browse the forum, read my asignment and start playing.

Sounds like fun!

But yeah, do it on a weekly basis, seeing as challenges shouldn't be rushed.

We already have a "weekly INTENSE CHALLENGES" thread, right?  It seems like this one is more for quick things.

I can easily imagine said quick things requiring 2-3 days depending on the challenge, though.

I love these. It'd be nice to have 'official' weekly challenges, and other people posting some  unofficial easier ones.

First Challenge:

Clear IN on Normal+ where your hands are switched around

i.e. if you use right hand for movement it goes on shot keys and if you use your left hand for shot keys you use it for movement etc.

You do not have to 1cc it.

You have one week to complete this challenge. I will even pitch in for fun.

Extra Clear with 5 Lives left.  Bombing is hard with switched hands.  I even randomly bombed a couple times by accident when there weren't even bullets on the screen.  I also failed Fujiyama Volcano of all things.

I thought we weren't putting difficulty levels on these challenges so all levels of skill can join in.  I can't clear any Normal difficulties yet.  ;_;

That happened to me, to.
I started stage 5 and randomly bombed for no reason other than my finger slipped.
My fingers hurt now after playing that.

Cleared stage 1 and 2 so far and no deaths or bombs :D it's easier than I thought but Im starting to get uncomfortable, also using border team cause they require the least gimmick

Cleared with 1 continue on default lives, 2 bombs left. If I would have taken 2 or 3 extra starting lives I would've 1cc'd it :O What a weird experience, sometimes I'd tap left and she would go waaay farther than expected for an unknown reason (probably my left ring finger failing at tapping). Too bad you can't save replays after continues

Well it seems as though this challenge is impossible for me. My left hand's spazzing out and hitting random keys while my right one focuses when it feel like focusing.

No guys! You can't do that! Its part of the challenge. It was a very uncomfortable playing style and it made concentrating on what button does what very difficult.

Oh and challenge clear! 7 misses, three of them being ridiculous misses on S5 because i was fumbling around for the x-key neatly obscured by my hand! 23 cards captured i'm pretty sure.

Unfortunatly i forget to screenshoot the results screen. I do have a replay however but the Gensokyo isn't accessible at the moment. At least not for me.

I would still be using the left hand for movement and my right hand for the Focus / Fire / Bomb buttons (in that order from left to right on my keyboard). The only difference in this case would be the lack of my arms crossing over.

I tried to do it, but my fingers started to really ache by the end of Stage 4 that I couldn't go on T_T.  Crossing over my arms is painful >.<

Stage 1 - Perfect (Including some extremely crazy dodges)
Stage 2 - 1 DeathBomb (I had 3 seconds!)
Stage 3 - 1 Death (Well, it IS stage 3)
Stage 4B - 1 bomb
Marisa - lol you lose all your lives and clipdeath and don't bomb once cuz you accidently press left instead of the bomb key.

1cc IN Normal with hands crossed, 0/0 as well. No replay because I they're all filled and I didn't back them up yet.

Really close. Finished as walls of rainbow were closing in in all directions.
