FYI this is a full reset, nothing from the old server was retained. I checked my backups and apparently the SQL dump I took was completely empty :D! Even if it could work you'd likely have to completely reset for Renewal.

Overview
HatOnline is a semi-private Ragnarok Online server for the MotK community. The goal is to strive for perfect parity with the current kRO Renewal client and content. While most servers like to screw with the game and add in all sorts of random nonsense, we believe the core game is being sacrificed as a result. There's also a lot of things eAthena has done wrong over the years and we would like to pride ourselves on being the most accurate reproduction of the core kRO game.
That being said there's still some things the base game does wrong, so we're not above changing those things as long as it doesn't change the core gameplay. Rates are set at 77 5 7.5x XP and 99 2.5 10x item drop to remove much of the tedium in building a new character. We've added in support for the official cash shop items and set the exchange rate at 100k 1mil zeny per 100 cash points. Episode 13 content and third job content will not be enabled for the time being. Things that have historically been broken, such as bad MVP behavior and other omissions are also getting worked on to bring the server in line with the official RO servers. Renewal is in, all content up to 14.1 should be enabled and fully working. Third classes, Kagerou/Oboro (Ninja second job), the works. All stats, skills, mob info and quests are in line with iRO Renewal settings.

According to Ammy, as of Wine 1.4.1 you should be able to launch HatOnlineRE.exe as-is without any additional work. HatOnlineUpdate.exe should work as well.
If you ever get crashes or are unable to login with error messages about EXE being out of date, please check for any updates first.
Registration
First time you login, put down username_m or username_f (not "username" but the username you want), _m for male and _f for female gender, for your login name, then every time after that login with just your desired username. To get your free hat just send me a PM with your character name and your desired hat (link to it from http://ratemyserver.net so I can have an item_id please!)
Handy tips
To talk to everyone on the server just shout! Your chat will be globally spammed to everyone with no intervention required.

Holy crap I knew Renewal was a revamp but I never realized how much they nerfed the XP table and stuff.
No wonder at the "pitiful" low rate of 5x I'm already 40something.

Pre-Renewal: 1 to 99 base level pretrans 405,234,427 total XP
Renewal: 1 to 99 base level pretrans 29,395,800 total XP
7% of the old required XP. 7%
Pre-Renewal: 1 to 99 base level trans 1,212,492,549 total XP (half of that spent going from 98-99 lol)
Renewal: 1 to 99 base level trans 48,442,570 total XP (and no more suicide jump from 98-99, just a smooth linearish curve)
4% of the old required XP amount.
Obviously the mobs have had their XPs adjusted, but even at 1x it's like playing at 10x now (and noone plays at 1x thanks to battle manuals and VIP bonuses and all sorts of other items now available).
So yeah, I'm not so worried about running at 5x anymore.
Anyways, for the sake of not annoying the hell out of people trying to collect 1.2 million zeny to transcend, I've enabled a job change NPC. You're obviously free to do the job quests as they are. But considering for a few of us this isn't exactly our first runthrough, and without the big economy to back things up, I figured I'd be merciful at least with that. You still have to hit the level requirements (job 50 to second class, base 99 to trans), just no more failing the mage test ten thousand times (although I suspect that got nerfed).
I've also put in a free teleporter NPC, but you have to visit and talk to the NPC at the target location before she will warp you to her. It's a compromise between allowing @go and watching everyone zoom off to random dungeon floors from the newbie area. The NPC unlocks access account wide, so if you visit once on one character you can warp again anytime any character on that account. It does include access to warp to specific dungeon floors if you reach them (and talk to the NPC), this I'm leaving enabled on a trial basis. I may end up turning it off and/or limiting it to what the dungeon teleporter cash shop scroll does. I've also enabled an MVP arena since that was kind of a thing we did manually anyways as GM events so why not automate it. I'll still probably do invasion/random MVP hunt events too :b. Basically I'll get bored when there's no one to play with so as long as people are playing I'll be active. So play or else!
Oh and WoE is disabled like before, and I brought back the old guild dungeon teleporter too so that's all there. There's also a stat/skill resetter NPC and a hair stylist NPC (default styles for free, custom styles for $$$ crazy bucks). And yes, I still have the skill reset scrolls in the cash shop, just don't use them unless you like wasting money.

I'd like to request at least a 10x drop rate though. At 2.5x it's 1 card per 4000 monsters, so I'm not planning on being able to have any in my build (unless that's the point).

I was asking TSO about this a couple of days ago. You need something like 700k gold unless you use the custom stylist hidden near the middle of Prontera.

Drop rate I'll probably raise, because right now I am so fucking broke I don't know what to do and I imagine everyone else is too. If it weren't for the Eden Group stuff we'd be hitting a brick wall hard.
ASPD works completely different now. No skill gives a percentage ASPD increase anymore, it's all flat linear increases.

Drop rate raised to 10x for all items.
There will be server maintenance sometime tonightish when everyone is off to fix a few bugs. Also remember you're all entitled to one free hat (within reason), so send me item IDs and check your mail!

Raised XP rates to 7.5x, essentially giving everyone a free battle manual. As a balancing measure I've raised cash shop prices to compensate for the new rates, it's now 1 cash shop point per 10k zeny, and battle manuals/bubblegum now cost 50p per item.

Huh. According to the formula, ASPD boosts are a flat number but they're modified by AGI.
In order to get the full bonus you would need 200 AGI. Which makes me wonder if the formula is accurate, or if they just nerfed the absolute fucking shit out of all attack speed pots and skills, to the point that they do almost nothing in a normal build. If it was just the flat bonus it would feel like it was more in line with the pre-renewal boosts.

Seems that just straight-up running HatOnlineRE.exe in WINE 1.4.1 works just fine. Looking forward to reading up on stuff and getting caught up. I played this for like, a few weeks in 2010, and was just starting to get the hang of it. I might need some tips from you guys here and there, but I'll try to work out most stuff on my own.

Well, finally got in, and so far things are moving smoothly. Still unsure where I'm going to be going classwise.
Figure I'll just go with the flow and pick something that feels right. I take it there's already a surplus of mages, yeah?
Maybe I'll roll up a Rogue for once, since I usually run thieves anyhow. Gotta try something aside from the usual Assassin, eh? Broaden my horizons and such.

You know, Gunslinger looks pretty interesting. If Meejee is going after Acolyte anyway, I might just go with that.

The only issue I have with gunslingers is that they taper off fast due to being an extended class with no subclasses and basically being an intermediate between a hunter and a sniper.
They are fun though.
Also, while I am planning to make a FS priest later, I'm currently running the monk subclass of Acolyte which is based around punching things rather than assisting allies.

Ah, that's good. I couldn't work out how to start learning to be a Gunslinger, as opposed to just hearing about it, so I went with Acolyte anyways. Have managed the monumental achievement of constructing Mr. Smiley. I forgot how simple the mechanics are, how much they love hotkeys, and how easy it is for me to forget things I need for certain skills or items.
Which reminds me - opening the Quests window shows a garbled language, in every tab. Don't why this is or how to fix it - the font everywhere else seems to be fine.

The gunslinger job change is in Einbroch. Though there is also a job change NPC in the middle of Prontera too.
Ignore the quest window until you actually pick up quests. The quests I've actually picked up so far haven't had the font issues.

So yeah everyone whining about ASPD, apparently kRO uses a completely different ASPD formula than everyone else and it basically makes everything a lot slower without stacking +% ASPD items/cards. iRO and everyone else us a much different formula that isn't quite completely known yet.
So, I'm debating reverting to prerenewal ASPD, simply because I'm aiming for parity with iRO (I can't possibly test on kRO), and while not correct the old formula is closer? Then again, rAthena is aiming for kRO parity so I dunno, fighting the system might be a lot harder.

Following changes have been made:
- ASPD formula reverted to pre-Renewal. kRO is the only server using the formula that was previously in place, all other servers use a modified version of the pre-Renewal ASPD formula. While not correct, it puts us closer to iRO, which is our current target for parity.
- XP penality for killing monsters below your character's level removed. The penalty for killing monsters way over your level (+15 or more) is still in place. This effectively "unnerfs" mobbing levelling builds while still giving incentives to kill monsters within your range. Leech levelling is still heavily penalized.
The latter change I can sort of see where kRO was going with this. They wanted to stop high level players from mobbing low level areas and farming all the monsters and preventing low level players from using them, while at the same time giving low level players a bit of the action when it comes to the economy. Same with the drop penalty, although no server other than kRO implements it. But at the same it artifically makes the game slower and longer to play. Agi/mobbing builds were some of the fastest levellers in the game, same with leeching off of super high level creatures. I kept the leech penalty in because the early levels are already effectively trivialized as it is, and I liked the fact by having the leech penalty it encourages you to spread out more for levelling rather than just sitting in the same two maps until 99 (I'm looking at you Sphinx).
The XP penalty against mobbing just makes the game unfun tho, not as much because it slows the game down XP wise, but it gets expensive. On my knight, in order to mob things effectively in my "level range", I was barely breaking even on potion costs. One bad run, one mess up, and I lost money. I was literally broke so I figured I'd go mob skeleton workers or something else I didn't need to pot through. When I saw I was only getting 200 xp a kill, that was kind of absurd. I'm already getting penalized for a non-efficient monster via the levelling bonus. I'd be 99 already had I had the funds to continue mobbing what I was, but since I was broke my game came to a screeching halt until I could get the funds again.
The ASPD nerf, that was purely for cash shop reasons. kRO has not one, not two, but three consumable +% ASPD items in the cash shop, along with +% ASPD gear, and conveniently they all stack. This was purely to promote cash shop sales by heavily heavily nerfing autoattack damage. No other server implements it, which should give you a good idea how "good" of an idea it is.
Basically, both concepts were simply unfun and I removed them. As much as I'd like parity with kRO, tbh there is no "gold" standard for official RO. All the servers do things differently, and the "gold standard", kRO, is effectively a private server anyways since you need a KSSN to play. jRO, the biggest RO server still running, does things drastically different than kRO. iRO, the "official" international server, is closer to kRO but still has made some changes. Then there are servers like the Philippines or Indonesia server that puts in crazy stuff like drop items on death to artifically make the game hard. So to try to chase parity with kRO makes as much sense as chasing parity with iRO or jRO or whatever. AKA I'm just going to go with whatever's the most fun, and if there are renewal mechanics that aren't fun I'm not against removing them or modifying them.
Now when I say "Fun" I mean in the sense of things added in as artifical time sinks, not difficulty. I like hard stuff, I don't like repetitive annoying just for the sake of pedaling cash shop stuff. Things like bowling bash builds are not click to win builds. There's still skill involved. There is no skill involved in buying ASPD candy with mommy's credit card, or using ygg leaves on Anubises all day :b

I might give this a bit of a spin. Never played before, these sort of games tend to turn me away with grinding tedium, but,with boosted rates, might be worth a try.
Need to have a look at the game beforehand, of course, but just voicing interest.

My Blacksmith is gonna be hitting 99 soonish, and before I trans I'm going to reset into a pure forger to make a full set of elemental maces for myself. If anyone else wants some weapons made, start gathering the materials now and I'll forge them this weekend.
Estimated success rates will be 37% on VVS Elemental weapons, and 42% on VVVS weapons, so to be safe you'll want 3x the materials for each weapon you want made.

It will go to 150. I'm not sure if the official servers have the same problem since I haven't played on them post-renewal but many private servers have a small problem where if you reach level 99, even if you can level up higher, the exp bar won't show up until you get enough exp to get to level 100.

Lately I've had this incredible urge to RO... as much as I'd hate to be even less productive than usual, this is very tempting.
I've never taken the time to learn RO's formulas and stuff because I'm pretty casual about it;; Are increments of 10 still good for stats? I remember hearing you get bonuses for doing that a long time ago, so I've been doing it ever since (maybe it was just a server exclusive?). I also never knew you could refine past +10, but that must be brutal... I was obsessed with making a +9 Wool Scarf on a 5/5/3 server and I never got past a +7... even after breaking 60+ of the darn things.
(Is "free hat time" still a thing or no?)

Are increments of 10 still good for stats? I remember hearing you get bonuses for doing that a long time ago, so I've been doing it ever since (maybe it was just a server exclusive?).
Pre-renewal, there used to be bonuses at specific break points for stats. Now the gains are linear.

Holy crap I knew Renewal was a revamp but I never realized how much they nerfed the XP table and stuff.
No wonder at the "pitiful" low rate of 5x I'm already 40something.
Obviously the mobs have had their XPs adjusted, but even at 1x it's like playing at 10x now (and noone plays at 1x thanks to battle manuals and VIP bonuses and all sorts of other items now available).
So yeah, I'm not so worried about running at 5x7.5x anymore.
I kind of disagree with this.
Basically, you're right about the EXP up to level 99 being heavily, heavily nerfed but with the rates as they are right now I do not think that we will be able to do anything that is fun and party oriented for a very long time because 99 is no longer the level at which you can attempt endgame.
I mean, after you hit level 99/70 the EXP required to level up is dramatically increased.
For example, after you hit level 99/70 and change into your third class, if you were to receive all the base EXP it took you to reach 99trans again, you would gain a grand total of... 8 level ups. That's what 198 level ups equate to.
To compound to this at this level you no longer have access to repeatable quests which means that you need to earn all this EXP purely through grinding.
Which will take a hell of a long time to do.
This is in part due to the nerfed EXP values that you mentioned in your post.
I mean, for example, the Kasa: It used to give you 49000 bEXP per kill. It now gives 5599 bEXP provided you're in the correct level range.
Reaching level 150 requires more bEXP than it does to reach level 99 pre-renewal yet the monsters now only give fractions of the EXP that they used to and have even been buffed to make things more troublesome.
Which brings me to the other part. Our server's population is extremely limited, which makes finding parties within your level range a bit more annoying. Solo'ing monsters in your level range is quite troublesome and I don't think that you can even attempt monsters in the optimal EXP range solo.
I don't know. I just see things becoming un-fun fast since every MVP has been scaled up quite a bit so you need the levels to attempt them and the levels are so very annoying to get through grinding.
tl;dr: I think the EXP rates are too low for our limited server population.
Of course, this is simply my opinion and since it's your server you're free to have it run however you want. I'll just be grinding hats in the corner at whatever rates I'm given.

I was talking about it with Hijiri, and I think the problem is we're used to old RO where the game "began" at trans 9x and those last 9 or so levels were the end game grind. Your build was considered "finished" at 9x/6x and anything beyond that was grinding gravy.
That's not how renewal RO is balanced. The game begins at third job now. Once you hit 100 and get a couple of jlevels in, your damage output changes dramatically. Same with survivability. And third job you're not starting a new skill tree, you're just continuing the one you started on trans second. Plus there is a HUGE gap in XP earned between solo and group play. I looked at the XP tables for a lot of the "lower" dungeons, they're much much much higher than any of the stuff we've killed 1-99 so far.
So yeah you've hit a solo brick wall going third. I think that's supposed to happen. Unless you're ubergeared and can solo mob the first floor of like juperos or nameless or what have you, you're going to need to party. The problem is there's little to no incentive to party 1-99, you can easily get to 99 solo, the only advantage is you just do it faster. Like Hijiri and I did toy factory and got me to LK in a few hours. I could have done that solo but it would have probably taken me a day or so. When you hit third job though, unless you have crazy gear, you HAVE to party, period. You can't do nameless or juperos or geffina alone.

Just to comment about Experience in general.
I also turned 3rd job last night. Yeah, that first lvl from 99 to 100 was a shocker and it's going to be slow relative to those delicious Eden quests. I personally am not certain if it will feel like a tedious grind to me. I'm hoping not because I'm hoping the Renewal changes make it worth it to do something I almost never did in RO... join a party and go to different places.
I walked into Biolabs 2 and tried to Holy Light a lvl 120 Kavach Icarus to death and it was not going to be worth my time. Seeing that, I can't wait to party and take on these revamped challenges. Get all the lvl 99 Eden quests when you turn 3rd job, solo the one you liked to do to lvl 100, then party up and finish the other ones off. I think the first 25 or so jlvls shouldn't be too bad and that'll probably be enough to get people into their core 3rd job build.
Then we prep for all the good stuff to come. 6 person party in Abbey and killing Fallen Bishop Hibram? Yes please.
I think any change to the Experience rate should be a "wait and see" decision.

What would need to be added to forge an elemental weapon, like an elemental Sword Mace over a regular one, and does adding an element affect the % chance to succeed?

There are five add-ons available for forged weapons.
Flame Heart - makes the weapon fire-type.
Mystic Frozen - makes the weapon water-type.
Rough Wind - makes the weapon wind-type.
Great Nature - makes the weapon earth-type.
Star Crumb - adds some flat damage to each attack, which is applied even if you miss. (+5 with one, +10 with two, and +40 with three)
You have three slots on each weapon, usually you will want elemental stone + two star crumbs. This is a Very Very Strong (VVS) Elemental weapon.
You can also fill it with nothing but Star Crumbs to make a Very Very Very Strong (VVVS) weapon. Once you refine it, it should be a better neutral weapon than your Eden weapon.
The success rates I gave are for VVS Elem and VVVS Weapons. The success rate is 15% higher for each star crumb you leave off.
EDIT: Oh, apparently there is another +10 flat damage boost for my weapons as long as I'm a ranked Blacksmith (which shouldn't be a problem).

There is no cash shop enabled in this client, for now the functionality is covered by a pair of NPCs in Payon. Next client update will have it now that server side support has been implemented.

The following changes have been made to the drop tables:
- Cards on normal mobs now drop at
1% 0.5% instead of 0.1% (compared to 0.01% of standard drop rate), MVP cards still drop at 0.1%. - Logarithmic drop scaling has been enabled.
What does that exactly mean, "logarithmic drop scaling?". Well essentially, it means the drop rate gets increased on a curve instead of a flat multiplication of drop rates.
Use logarithmic drops? (Note 1)
Logarithmic drops scale drop rates in a non-linear fashion using the equation
Droprate(x,y) = x * (5 - log(x)) ^ (ln(y) / ln(5))
Where x is the original drop rate and y is the drop_rate modifier (the previously mentioned item_rate* variables)

We are the 1000 line (10x rate). Each column is the original drop value (1x rate on RateMyServer or IROWiki), and the row for 1000 is what it'll end up being calculated at. If it adversely affects drop performance too much I may undo it but for now I want to see how it works. Cards are fixed at a 1% 0.5% drop chance, and MVP cards drop at 0.1%

I think you should revert it.
This is because of how EXP from monsters scales in renewal.
I'm going to use my beloved Kasa as an example again. It's level 135 and gives 5.5k exp per kill.
Now, in comparison, let's look at my beloved Venomous. It's level 87 and gives 1.2k exp per kill.
Killing 5 Venomous will give you equivalent EXP to killing a Kasa, except you need to be at least level 125 to gain any EXP from the Kasa and you'll likely be hunting it in a party which means that you get split EXP per kill.
The big problem is that, at level 125, it would be infinitely easier to mob and kill the Venomous solo in comparison to hunting Kasas.
Basically, with the way that monster EXP values were reworked and slowly they scale now, the incentive to killing monsters that actually matched your level post-eden quests is gone with the removal of EXP penalties for killing lower level mobs.
tl;dr: I think that the EXP penalty for killing lower level mobs shouldn't have been removed if you want to encourage party play at higher levels.
Of course, again, this is just my opinion and stuff.

Apparently setting things at log 10 dropped the rates on super rares pretty badly, so I boosted it to log 15. This will actually make a few rares easier to get as well as materials, without making things too obscene for other items. I also toned the card drop rate back down to .5%, so now it's a 1 in 200 chance instead of 1 in 100.

Ah the wonders of MMORPGs! Utterly screwed up the Acolyte Training Quest and, as in life, there are no do-overs. I really like this kind of challenge. I'll have to think each move through very carefully. It's good for the soul.
e: Believe I have that sorted now in my own way. Acolyte training completed (as Yukimori; not Tengukami), and now doin' the grind to become a Priest.

Dawn kindly jumped into the MVP Arenas to check what's in there, for SCIENCE. Here's what we found:
Alpha - eddga, mistress, moonlight flower, maya
Beta - phreeoni, orc hero, orc lord, giant whisper
Theta - drake, doppelganger, osiris, lord of the dead
Epsilon - incantation samurai, pharoah, dark lord, baphomet
Each of the eight rooms for each type seems to contain random assortments of the above MVPs.
Also, TSO - the MVP lobby has a free healer, you should do something about that.

I believe this is the first time I've spent time researching how I plan to go into a dungeon. Currently reading up on Payon Cave, hoping to make some monies. Stuffman wisely advised me to wait for 50 before going for priest, and I'm not far from there. Payon should help out in that department, too.

If you want more EXP, might I recommend Megalodons?
You can farm them easily with heal and they have a repeatable Eden quest associated with hunting them.
On top of that they drop skel bones which you can turn into the Eden group for even more EXP.

Priests still tank pretty well. As do Mechanics or so I've been told. Suras and Rune Knights and several other classes can also build tanky if they want.
No clue about Geneticists but Suras are still pretty much there for the "I'm going to instagib you."

Just checking: Do you guys party often? I considered a Crusader for a first character, and if you guys party a bunch I could go for a Devotion build and keep your squishies alive a little longer. Without parties levelling one is hell.

We're starting to party now that most of us have third class characters. Kiro and Chaore and I did some simple MVP hunting a couple of nights ago.
A couple of quick question since I'm unfamiliar with the third job classes:

Basically how it works out is Rune Knight and Royal Guard are two different flavors of tank class. RK is more focused on DPS than RG but both can do eachother's job with a few exceptions. RG gets much better defensive skills than RK, but RK gets a much larger HP pool than RG. RG has some decent damage skills but RK gets the better overall DPS.
They blurred the lines a bit, RG and RK are mostly interchangeable now. You can spec a DPS Royal Guard and not sacrifice too much from tanking, and visa versa you can spec a tank Rune Knight and still be able to do some damage. As it stands now we already have two RKs so an RG would most definitely be welcome.
Are Champs' and Creators' respective third jobs (Shura and Genetics, IIRC) still walking nukes? If so, do any other jobs do that too?
Pretty much for Sura yeah, except rather than using Asura Strike you're using Gate of Hell now. As for Genetic I'm not entirely sure, I know they improved damage on Acid Demonstration (both STR and INT factor in as bonuses on AD), but I've honestly never played a Creator before and I haven't really looked into the new skills.

Sort of, eden quests make gear pretty much zero effort saving all your cash for pots and mammonite spam. The eden gear is more or less good enough to get you to third job trans solo. It can't replace dedicated gear for partying but at least you don't have to waste money on low level stuff.

We don't have a Sorcerer (Professor third job), and I have an alt SBK sin I'm building but I have the Vit/DPS Rune Knight as well so we would need a pure tank to replace me. So we definitely have a need for either a Sorcerer or a Royal Guard. We also do not have any Dancer/Bards so those would be much appreciated as well.
Basically we're lacking on the more specialized support classes, and while we have one tank (me) and we have some decent autoattack DPS, we're gonna need an SBK sin or two or more Rangers for some of the harder dungeons. I'm the only tank so if someone wants to replace or supplement my role as tank I'd be more than willing to work on a DPS or support class and I can just flip back and forth depending on what the situation needs.

What role is Mechanic, anyway? It looks like it has a ton of random attack skills and utilities, but apparently you can't use combat smith buffs while riding your magitek armor.

A good way to save money as a Blacksmith is to use meat as your primary healing item. Meat is the most cost efficient heal item in the game, but it has the drawback of being very heavy; however, you can just stick a fat stack of it in your cart and not worry about the weight.

Alrighty, so I've decided I'm gonna roll a pure-tank Royal Guard for my first character, named Nobilissima. I've been pretty busy recently so I can only get on for like an hour or two everyday, but I should be able to make time for the occasional dungeon/MVP runs.

What role is Mechanic, anyway? It looks like it has a ton of random attack skills and utilities, but apparently you can't use combat smith buffs while riding your magitek armor.
I'm probably going to reset a lot and try out a bunch of different builds.
Awright, I had the distinct pleasure of being a Mechanic myself, and I'll share some of my insight.
If you're going Mado, go pure Mado. See, if you're in mado, your role is now tank/support. You support not by healing, but by reducing damage dealt to allies, debuffing mobs, increasing damage to enemies(including MvPs), things like that. Additionally, Mado Mechanics have the unique quirk of being able to become immune to fire/water/wind/earth damage, and they naturally get a truckload of defense. They excel at being a wall and general annoyance to other things. But if you go pure mado, you cannot get any other axe skill nor get FAW. You can potentially mob with Cold Slower though.
If you go FAW, yer just saying FAW/Axe. If you want this to succeed, get yourself a Gigantic Axe. That's almost the needed weapon because it's one handed and a little lighter than a Doomslayer. FAW is good against single target dudes, if you don't mind expending a lot of resources to kill monsters. Anything with AoE will ruin FAWs though. Ultimately, High Speed Cart Ram with 8000 weight sadly outputs better damage than any Mechanic Axe skill. Power Swing has a 2 second delay on it so you can't spam it, and Axe Boomerang damage isn't that good unless you have a Gigantic Axe or a Doomslayer. In a best case scenario, you might get about 30,000 damage with a throw of a doomslayer, and when I say best case, I do mean that. Potentially, you can MvP slower MvPs by flinging the Axe and running away, since the after cast delay is pretty enormous on that skill too.
Basically, if you go Mado, your role does a 180, and if you go mado-less, it's typically easier to just aspd hit stuff anyways.

Basically what Dular said. Your build is going to be nearly the same as a standard hunter build, except with more INT than AGI.

Run the setup.exe file in the folder. Sometimes it won't let you change resolution and you gotta flip random options in game to get it to work, dunno why it does that.

There's no lite installer because there's nothing for me to cut out. kRO killed Sakray a long time ago, we're just using the main client now. At most I kill the BGMs and save a few meg, that's it.
The only thing I'm working on now is an upgrade package from the old HatRO installer to the current base. But I'm not sure how much that will save if any.

It's done manually; you choose where to put the points. I don't know much about Priests so I can't help you with where to allocate points, but if you've been leveling to 30 with stats at 1 across the board, it must have been painful... ;_;

Yeah when you level up, you get stat points that you add to whichever stat you want-- and they scale up a point per 10 points you add. So if you have to add 2 points for 1-10, you'll need to add 3 for 11-20, etc.

There's a little arrow next to each stat that you use to level up. You want to be raising INT and VIT mostly as a priest, with some DEX sparsed in from time to time for cast speed. Focus on getting INT up to or near max, this will influence your SP pool and the rate you regen it, and eventually when all the renewal mechanics are in, your heal strength. VIT will give you more HP and HP regen and some status resistance and defense. DEX speeds up casting, which isn't necessary at first since heal is instacast, but will be useful as time goes on.
Try to aim for max INT asap, but raise VIT as well, then throw in some dex at the end. Should be aiming for 99 INT, 80 VIT and rest DEX. Prioritize raising INT but don't be afraid to pump VIT if you're finding yourself getting squished really hard.

The client update has been put on hold for now although it should be happening sooner than later. Next major feature update is a revamp of the refining system and addition of several new items.
I will be implementing "Safe to +7" certificates. How these work is fairly simple, There will be a certificate you purchase and when you are upgrading and your refining fails, instead of your item being destroyed the certificate is consumed instead. If the upgrade completes successfully then you'll keep the certificate. They will only cover up to +7, above that the item will suffer the normal failure result.
I will also be adding a new refiner that takes HD ores instead of the standard ores. This refiner will only upgrade weapons and armor in the +7-10 range. When you upgrade on this refiner, and the refining fails, instead of destroying the item, you will lose one upgrade. So for example, you fail on upgrading a +8 item, it will get knocked down to +7.
Overall there will be 3 main classes of ores you can use for upgrading, with 3 different sets of refiners and chances and prices. Here's the breakdown:
Standard refining:
- Oridecon and elunium found off of monster drops.
- Default cost and success table, single roll for refine chance.
- If an upgrade fails, the item is destroyed. Certificates are not checked or used.
Enriched refining:
- "Enriched" oridecon and elunium purchasable in cash shop.
- Same success table as standard refining, but the refiner will roll twice for success chance.
- Safe to +7 certificates are checked. If refining fails certificate is consumed and item is left intact.
HD refining:
- "HD" oridecon and elunium purchasable in cash shop.
- Will only upgrade items at +7 or higher.
- Same as enriched, roll twice for success chance.
- If an upgrade fails, item loses 1 point of refinement. Certificates are not checked.
So, in layman's terms, you can continue to use the standard refiners with normal items at the standard chances. The enriched refiner will roll twice for success chance (effectively raising your chances by 50%), and if you have a Safe to +7 certificate it will consume the certificate rather than the item. For example, if you have a piece of armor you want to get +7, you should start with standard refining to +4, then obtain a Safe to +7 certificate and use enriched refining to increase your odds. If you're at or over +7 you can elect to use the HD refiner which will only knock off a point of refinement rather than destroy the item. This should make getting +7s much more viable, while still making +9/+10s a moneysink but not out in the realm of impossible.
Costs will be set at 150k each for enriched elunium and oridecon, 250k for HD elunium and oridecon, and 1mil zeny for a single safe to +7 certificate. Remember, the certificate is only consumed when the item fails to refine, so it's possible (if not likely) to make it to +7 and still have your certificate.
I am also looking at rebalancing the socketing NPC, possibly by either boosting the chances and lowering costs, or leaving the chances as is but removing the item destruction. I'm leaning toward the latter, leave the cost, chance, and reagent requirements at default but remove the item destruction. Your zeny and any reagents required will be consumed but the item will not get destroyed.
I will likely have this all implemented sometime this weekend. Stay tuned!

Do all Eden Quests give equal EXP for a given level? Like, whether I hunt 30 Roween or 30 Siroma, will I receive the same experience reward?

The default slotting costs will be astronomic with the economy as it is, 200k-2M for a 25%-10% success rate is still painful
refining still takes hundreds (if not thousands) of attempts to get a +10, +11-+20 upgrades are an effective enough money sink.
Is it possible to add an NPC who can take stacks of regular material in exchange for enriched, or HD one. (at slightly better value than selling them to NPC for the zeny to buy the new materials)
This of course assuming the end game doesn't end up with us all sitting around on stacks of billions of zeny, small private servers should get far less mudflation than the official ones.

Getting +9/+10 should be a challenge, especially with the card abilities that go along with them. The point is to make it easy for people to get to +7 on their gear without too much effort but anything beyond that should still be a moneysink if you wish to chase after it. I'm accepting the fact that there won't be thousands of items in circulation to replace broken items chasing them so I'm giving ways to upgrade without breaking the item.
I'm still going to tweak and adjust of course if it ends up not being the case, but that's the goal I'm aiming for. Slotted gears and +7 are fairly necessary for most high level partying, so I'm making it easier to get those necessary pieces. Same reason I bumped card drops. If it turns out +9/+10s are needed I'll readjust.

While it's unreasonable to assume anyone on this server will have the patience to farm countless B worth of zeny, I don't think it's out of the question to see a significant amount of M zeny farming, I think what's of more concern is the small population right now means a lack of product circulation. :V

Yeah I know gank rogues can do it but even my dumb LK can get 500k/hr just spiralling random mobs. Money isn't hard to come by. Mats aren't even hard to come by although I've made it a bit harder to get them (no mob guarantees drops unless it was already 100%).
Either way time will tell. I'm more than willing to fudge numbers and stuff to make things more "fun" and less "grind", to a point obviously, but still that's the aim I'm reaching for. I want people to have to work for stuff so they don't max out and burn out in 2 minutes but not burn out in 5 minutes because it takes 4 years to even start doing party stuff.

Stupid Norton keeps blocking the Updater.exe thing when I try to run it. Finally figured out how to stop Norton from automatically removing it, but that's about it... at least I don't need it right now to play.
In regards to auto-attacking, shouldn't I be able to use skills while attacking? I had to turn off auto-attack just so I can attack and use skills (which isn't a problem, I'm used to holding the mouse button for continuous attacking). I thought maybe it was just because auto-attack was turned on from the getgo, but even doing it with CTRL prevents me from using skills, and I don't remember that being an issue on any of the other servers I've played on. Is this normal or am I experiencing some type of bug?

If you want hard values, TSO's values (99 INT/80 VIT/rest DEX) are a good start though there are many alternatives. Some people actually advocate doing VIT > INT instead of INT > VIT, but this is only a bigger deal in certain party setups or situations (if you only cared about Heal for instance, a +10 Healing Staff is going to cover up for the loss of raw healing by decreasing your INT in favor of more HP). Personally I disagree with always maxing INT especially when the Healing Staff is available and you somehow get it past +7. Common INT benchmark values back when I still played were 60~70 INT and 90+ VIT
So yeah either do INT > VIT = DEX, or INT > VIT > DEX, or VIT > INT ≧ DEX :V

I didn't understand this complaint at all. This server won't even have a functioning market until the population gets larger.

Idly, word of advice: At 90 base int, costs to increase it are really high. Consider putting some into Dex and Vit at that time, and only maxing out Intelligence (if at all) after hitting level 85. This way you won't be super fragile or slow.

Hey Ammy. As far as how I've been building my priest on Hats, I find soloing content and heal bombing Undead monsters to be the most efficient for your early levels. Therefore, you want to only put points into INT for a while. Slower monsters with no ranged attacks will let you get away with this and not having any VIT (Skeleton/Zombies in Payon dungeon 1, Megaladons in the east entrance of Comodo, Orc Zombies/Skeletons in Orc dungeon 1) into your 50s and 60s. You can be pure INT (around 70 INT) before you have to consider putting points into VIT.
Another tip for early acolyte leveling is to have 2 different hotkeys for Heal at different skill lvls. Like Heal lvl 10 and Heal lvl 4. You use Heal lvl 10 to heal bomb, and Heal lvl 4 to heal yourself. You can even heal bomb say a Skeleton at Heal Lvl 10, then hit it with the weaker Heal Lvl 4 for more efficiency if the combined damage still kills them. Why spend 40 + 40 SP to kill something when you could possibly just use 40 + 22 SP instead? Experiment with it.
I'll keep an eye out for you this weekend (when I can play at the same time as you) and we'll work on how to solo as well as eventually learning how to party with people. Other low level characters also invited.
I'm personally going abnormally high INT first as I'm soloing a lot with Judex and not really needing the VIT as much even with minimal gear. Currently at around 110 INT, 70 VIT, 70 DEX at around base lvl 109.

Money is by far the easiest thing to get, mats are not. Not breaking items is going to be huge for getting +9/+10s. Would it be cheaper if there was a functioning market? Sure, but then I wouldn't be tweaking any of this at all. I'm providing an alternative path that puts +9/+10s in the realm of doable rather than "only if you solo farmed on your own for 5 years to get the 10000 slotted full plates" to get one to +10. I'm still of the opinion anything +7 is a luxury and should be hard to get. If you can show me numbers where having +9/10s is necessary for doing some content then I'll rethink. My balancing effort is based off of pre-RE numbers where +7 was the necessary benchmark for gear. I raised card drops for this reason as well; it should be doable to get the base gear but still some work, but any luxury items should still be a challenge.
It IS going to be more expensive than the "traditional" route, but right now the traditional route is not doable, and probably never will. You're paying more in exchange for not eating your items, that's the tradeoff. If the costs end up being too much then I may ratchet them down. I'm starting high because I want an effective money sink that isn't BUY EVERY HAT EVER, while still making it reasonable to make builds around +7 gear.

There are some quest items that you can only get one per character, at level 100+. One of them is almost absolutely needed for my character.
Would you make a new character get to level 100 just to do the entire quest again for another shot?

If you're bothered to or you can, heal bombing Firelocks at Amatsu Dun. 1 is also a pretty good alternative; problem is that they have ranged attacks and kind of hurt so it's a mixed bag. Though they give much more experience than the small fry in Payon Dun :V

Ok to explain, this should be the bare minimum you should have as an FS priest. This will leave you with 5 points to play with. Kiro had a good point about dropping Cure, just have your party members carry green pots to cover those needs (and with the way Ragnarok is setup it's hard for a priest to know when to use it). I personally would take 1 in Decrease AGI and then throw the rest in Kyrie Eleison. If you want, you can steal a point from Magnificant and use that to get Gloria 1. Make Angelus dead last to level up, get the 1 point you need to get Assumptio ASAP but otherwise save that for last for upping. It's mostly an extra bonus skill to give a bit more soft DEF but isn't crucial to have.
The following modifications can be made based on preferences. Angelus would probably be the only skill I could say take it or leave it, you only really need 1 for Assumptio and the additional soft DEF while nice, isn't entirely necessary. There's some usefulness to having KE higher, even though it doesn't stack with Assumptio (they cancel eachother out) there are mobs that cast Turn Undead and make healing impossible. You could also shave a point from Imposito Manus or Aspersio. You only need 3 in Imposito Manus and 4 in Aspersio as prerequisites and the extra points maxing them aren't game changers.
You really shouldn't put more than 5 into Increase SP Recovery. Your SP pool should be large enough as it is anyways, and there's far more useful things to spend those extra 5 points on.

OK, after further thought I have made the following changes to the refining/socketing system. I ended up not going for the originally thought out convoluted system and went for a simpler approach.
All upgrades are now item safe. You will NOT lose your items on any upgrade failure, whether it's socketing or refining or card removal. You will lose materials/zeny on failure. When refining, if the item is below +6, the item will not be changed in any way. If the item is +7 or above, it will lose one refinement point. Enriched ori/elus are still in, and Suhnbi will still give double chances. That's the only difference between enriched and normal refining now, the extra roll.
Current prices for enriched elunium and oridecon are set at 50K a piece. There is no trade in between normal and enriched ores.

WoE will either not happen at all, or will be limited to just 1 castle, and it has to be made in such a way that a GX can't instawin.
I've seen things man, I've seen a GX break an emp in under two seconds.

Well, I was thinking more about the guild treasure chest drops, without which you can't into Sun God Helm. Sides, filled with monsters etc. Since we're a small server we can just ask people not to use sins or somth.

This I'm also having in mind. I've been meaning to practice Pneuma somehow, so it's good to know where manageable range attacks can be found.
The big trick to Pneuma is it actually blocks shots in a 3x3 grid around the center green "cloud", so you don't have to stand perfectly within it. It's also line of sight and works in all directions and blocks all ranged attacks regardless if it's friendly or not. So any shots crossing at any point in that 3x3 grid around the Pneuma "cloud" will be blocked, friend or foe. Keep that in mind when using Pneuma in a party scenario with ranged classes.
For the most part if you're soloing you can just plant the Pneuma right in front of the monster and then heal bomb/Holy Light it. Monsters aren't smart enough to realize they're being blocked by Pneuma and reposition as long as you stand still and don't move out of their firing range.

Thanks! Been having fun in Payon Cave, going with Angelus -> Increase AGI (me) -> Decrease AGI (it) -> attack, keeping a finger on Heal when it starts going into the yellow. Managed to make the money I needed that way, and I believe I have my stats where I want them to be. I just want to card and refine my new flail, then grind up to 50 before going for Priest. The skills may also need some adjusting, and I'll be using the tips posted here as reference.

The free Eden gear you can pick up is decent for a while and the repeatable quests give a fair bit of easy EXP.
Since you're a priest though, you're probably going to want a party for most of the repeatables.

WoE will either not happen at all, or will be limited to just 1 castle, and it has to be made in such a way that a GX can't instawin.
I've seen things man, I've seen a GX break an emp in under two seconds.

OK, found her. All I had to do was ask. It was almost too easy, to be honest.
On the plus side, I've gone up about 10 levels in a couple hours, all told. Another ten and I'll be at 50, and then it's on to Priest.
(Just like my grandmother would've wanted.)

I've discovered the dungeon scrolls are really messed up. The code is wrong and the descriptions are way off. Dungeon Scroll 2 doesn't even do anything, it's just the same as the first one, and the third one is way off.
I have removed the scrolls for now as they're kind of redundant as it is for Warpra. Warpra does only cover up until Thanatos Tower, which I plan on keeping that way. So I might end up recoding the dungeon scrolls entirely to cover some of the more esoteric places like Nameless Abbey. No you won't be able to skip entrance quests with them, but it'll save you the walk to get to Thor's and stuff or having to memoslave.

I've also squashed the zoomout bug where the client wouldn't move anymore if you're zoomed out too far. There's still a TINY deadzone if you're clicking from the top while fully zoomed out, but it should be completely resolved otherwise. I'm able to zoom completely out and click on the left, right and bottom edges and continue walking. The sight range has also been expanded so you can see the entire field when fully zoomed out.
I've also massively expanded the palette and haircolor choices and added 2 new haircuts! There are now a staggering 553 palettes and 263 hair colors and 30 hair styles to choose from.
A new item, 'Convex Mirror', has been added to the cash shop at 50k a piece. This item will mark on your map the location of an MVP monster in the area and will last for 10 minutes.

I need to double check but you really want Focus Ballet (Humming in game) and Lady Luck (Fortune's Kiss in game). Focus Ballet increases HIT by 20% at max level and Lady Luck becomes Magic Strings (Bragi) under Soul Link. Gypsy's Kiss (Service For You) is also really good, it halves SP usage at max level.
I would drop any of the ensemble skills (Sheltering Bliss, Classical Pluck, Down Tempo) for now until we get a Bard. It doesn't look like any of them are needed for Wanderer anyways. As far as ensembles go the best ones are Power Chord and Battle Theme. Classical Pluck doesn't affect monsters and Down Tempo only lowers VIT def not hard def.
Tarot Card of Fate is fun but you don't /have/ to have it. But I guess since you have the points might as well get it. I have no clue about the third job stuff so have fun playing with the songs :D

Moonlight Serenade is an incredible song and with your current build it's going to increase magic caster's MATK by 50% at x/50... Which quite frankly is awesome.

Renewal is in, all content up to 14.1 should be enabled and fully working. Third classes, Kagerou/Oboro (Ninja second job), the works. All stats, skills, mob info and quests are in line with iRO Renewal settings.

Apparently summoning a level 2 Spirit and setting them to defensive mode will make me take 0% damage from the elemental's element.
So Aqua level 2 gives me 100% defence against Water. Using Insignia level 2 changes monster's attacks to Water elemental.
Want to see if it means I can tank MVPs.
EDIT: iRO confirms that doing that will make MVPs do 1 damage with a regular attack. Need to know if there are MVPs which don't have neutral attack spells or sommat so we can test actually tanking MVPs with this combination. It'd make things a cakewalk!

Never done it so couldn't tell you :( I've never liked playing healers and prefer more esoteric support/tank roles.

Do you know how to Healbomb? If not, SHIFT CLICK Heal on an enemy target. It's a necessary Aco/Pri technique to be able to do it and the Priest job change quest requires you to perform it at some point :)

Did you know Evil Druids (an enemy in the Glast Heim St. Abbey) have a chance to drop Bible[2]s? :3
And Dark Priests drop Books of the Apocalypse. It's all so symbolic! Also if you aren't Job LV50 when you finish the quest you just get a Book instead of a Bible, so it's not as kickass. :V That and you kind of want the extra job levels for skills anyway.

Meanwhile steady progress is being made on my Alchemist; I'm up to 84/46 (this would be faster if I already had the materials for Acid Terror or what have you, but eh). I'm thinking I'll push for job 50 first, and then just train my homunculus since I still get base levels from that.

It has come to my attention that the third job quests give very very important things to you, some absolutely necessary. So I have disabled third job changing from the job changer NPC. You will have to do the quest now. Anyone who third jobbed before the change can request their items.

You would have missed out on your headgear and I wouldn't have given it :v But now it's apparent that some classes simply aren't usable without some of the gear so rather than force one or two classes to have to do the quest everyone has to. Skipping first/second and trans is fine, the quest gear returned from it is often negligible and the 1.2mil zeny requirement for rebirth is merely a time waster. But third not being able to summon your warg is kind of huge. Giving some of the gear and not all of it doesn't make it very fair either so in the interests of fairness you ALL have to do it.
If I gave the items away there'd be no reason at all to do the quest and the items would actually become a big problem and farmable (most of them are slotted high end gears). Going from 1 to third without transing takes at most a day or so if you know what you're doing. Also a few of the quests (namely the Rune Knight one) give different items depending on how well you did on the quest. Which item do I give in that case? Etc.
Easier to just make everyone do it. I'm giving a one time mercy item for people who changed prior to the removal from the job changer simply because I didn't know the kind of gear you receive as a reward for job changing. If I didn't know I wouldn't expect other people to realize.

The Magic Stone Hat, on the other hand, is actually fairly impressive. Comparable to the Sniper Goggles rangers get though not as impactful.

I couldn't help but notice that according to that, Star Gladiator and Taekwon can effectively equip anything at all, even though they can only equip about 3 things, as far as I'm aware.

I'm not sure what mix and match of accessories I should go for, nor do I know if I'm going for the correct item setup. Boots[1] for shoes because I honestly don't know good footwear for Taekwons in the current installment of RO :derp: Stone Buckler is the most reasonable shield to get so far, as others are either not strong enough or not attainable in any reasonable span of time (Valkyrja Shield). Heroic Backpack is a must for the ASPD bonus. It means I can see how much ASPD I get with 99+6 AGI, then I can redistribute 9 points into other stats if necessary. STR is compromised slightly, due to the presence of infinite kick combo, which easily triples DPS, especially with the kicks running off of ASPD for delay, I can spam kicks as fast as I normally attack.

I think if you have too much aspd, you lose out on attacks because you cannot react fast enough to make full use of your aspd. The rankers I've seen on iRO usually went full vit for the titanic amount of defense, and they're kicks were still rapid firing. It sometimes took them a few moments to get started was the issue. I think you'd EASILY hit 190 aspd, which means.. What, 5 attacks a second? I don't think a lot of people can get down the timing of hitting a button at the right time every .2 seconds.

NPCs seem to be bugged right now. I'm trying to finish the Finding the Moving Island quest and it just keeps sending me in a loop. The last time I tried talking to the Csar he didn't even finish his dialogue before telling me to go away.

So just a quickie for all the people wanting to do high level dungeons: save certain items/materials for those access quests.

Mainly for Nameless Island/Abbey, you need to do about 3 different precursor quests. Tedious items to gather include Glacial Hearts (Ice Dungeon drops), Green Herbs, and Jellopy.
Geffenia unlock requires a massive amount of Coral Reefs, but anyone can enter the dungeon when the quest completer chooses to open the Geffenia fountain so probably only a few people would have to do this quest. I'm working on this one.
Also, take a look at Alchemist brewing pages to see what's needed for them. Also our future Genetics seem to have the ability to change a hodgepodge of items. http://ratemyserver.net/index.php?page=creation_db&op=8 Not sure how that works though.

i'm at 182 aspd now buffed, mind, because we're still running off pre-renewal ASPD (thanks fontpants for confirming this with me)
it's subject to change of course because the formulas tsocchi posted haven't actually been put into use yet, but yeah, i'm probably going to have to switch to full VIT in that case. :V The button mashing is easy; I've TK Ranked before on jRO, it's just the major roadblock there is lag.

After great effort and countless research by Federation scientists, the formula known as Attack Speed Delay has been derived and implemented. It is not a perfect replica, as the original alien technology is sufficiently different from our own, but it has been adapted to work with our own starships. Various tweaks will be implemented as time goes on and further study is made, but, I shall proudly say, it is spaceworthy.
Oh and Kiro, I don't know WTF is up with heal but I need to do more research. The calcs are showing numbers much higher but any attempt at me poking at the formulas has resulted in weirdness. It /looks/ ok in the code, and it matches what all the various calcs show, but there's a formula on irowiki that gives significantly higher highness heal numbers, so I need to test this on AEGIS and see what the story is.

I was a bit worried, because I didn't get Job Lvl 50 until after I started the job quest, when I read specifically that you needed this before the quest in order to get the Bible. But it's apparently all the same deal to Bishop Paul, so, hell yes!

Yeah. You can more or less start the job change quest at job level 40, but you'd be silly not to take it to 50 (you'd be effectively wasting useful 1st job skills that can still be very useful later on, especially as a healing/buffing unit). It doesn't really matter when it happens from there.
Congrats, though! Job class changing feels so good. Especially since your new job level is 1 and you'll gain levels in it really fast for a while. :D

You do not need to have all 4 skill bars viewed, though obviously you still need to F12 them if you don't have any skills set on those particular bars.
As long as key bindings are set and battlemode is checked, then it should be OK.

Costume gear is completely separate from normal gear. You can't just put a hat in there and it'll show up, there's actual specific costume gear for those slots. Eventually I'll have it in, I'm holding off on any new NPCs until I can figure out the cash shop in the new client.

Zodiac diadems/crowns are now purchasable. I've also added in Adrenaline Rush scrolls as a purchasable consumable. Dular you can indeed go faster now.
Next step is to introduce NPCs to allow you to farm for the various gear that current require features we do not have, or would be unfeasible to do. I'm talking mostly about the Mora/KVM gear. Instead of the usual methods of farming the necessary currency (Mora coins or KVM points), I will have NPCs that will take exchanges from various monster drops and allow you to purchase the gear with it.
The exchanges will be as follows:
Bloody Rune and Rune of Darkness for Mora gear (Rachel Sanctuary and Odin's Temple)
Handcuffs and Research Charts for KVM gear (Biolabs)
I have not decided on the final values yet but expect probably 100-200 per gear item. Yes it's steep but considering you only have to get it once I think it's a reasonable grind. Plus this gives you guys incentives to GET THOSE ACCESS QUESTS DONE and party in fun places!

I'm a total noob too, and i seem to be learning all right, be warned the tutorial section of the game can't really cope with the massive exp boost, so you may need to look for help with the UI.

We're at a weekend or two's dedicated play.
Grinding to lvl 99 twice, second time round at half speed, sounds much worse than it is in practice.
The Eden Group gear quests will get you nearly the whole way first time and farming proper gear (and the repeatable Eden quests) will get past most of the next set with little torture (until 90+).
After you hit 3rd job i.e. lvl99-150 the pace slows down a lot and you'll be doing group content, dungeon entrance quests or farming for rare gear/card drops.
We're at the "end game" but the content is much, much slower to get through and we need all the help we can get with it.

You'll do 1-99 trans in about a couple of days, a week at most. It sounds like we're all uber done but in reality our highest character is 124 (an FS archbishop :v :v :v), followed by me at 116 (a tank :v). Level cap is 160. The game slows SIGNIFICANTLY down once you hit third job.
What renewal did was make 1-99 anything more than a speed bump. Really 1-99 trans you don't have to do anything except Eden quests for gear and XP. No need for dedicated levelling gear, no need to grind for anything stupid, just do Eden quests for the base gear and grind. Once you hit third job then you have to grind for your proper gear and stuff and there's a lot more emphasis on group play. We've all kind of hit a wall for XP since we can't do anything solo anymore without massive investment of time or resources, and the more people we can get the better.

The one named Tengukami screwed up his Acolyte Quest, and is now sitting somewhere in the dark, windy void of the server, a collection of lonely 0s and 1s, unseen and unheard.

They're a thing once you're in level range. Underprison hasn't really been changed, it's just the monsters are in the 90+ range so no point doing them until then.

Looking through Glast Heim (http://ratemyserver.net/index.php?page=areainfo&area=1011) in general it looks like a veritable smorgasbord for me. I'm lvl 61, so a lot of these guys are totally in my range. Thanks!
Payon was fun, but just as I was approaching the entrance to the third level, I was informed that I was carrying too much stuff to recover HP or SP. So while I picked up 50k zeny in the second level alone, my greedy ass had me walking back out to sell it all. I'll have to be less money hungry going back in. On the plus side, I have two cards that I'm curious about doing something with: an Ambernite card and a Soldier Skeleton card. The former is kinda meh - +2 DEF - but the latter adds a +9% critical rate.
I'm already having fun using a freakin' Bible as a weapon, and wonder if carding it would be worth it. Likewise the Ambernite card for the Saint's Robe.

Soldier Skeleton cards hang on for trading. Assassins need them in spades. As far as weapons go you eventually want to move away from books and towards staffs as MATK affects your heal, and book weapons do not tend to give any.

I do have a book that gives +160 MATK, INT+3, and SP Recovery +5% that you can equip now that you're over 60. If you want it you can have it-- I have three of them after all and they're not doing me a bit of good. :p

I'd say just pick whatever seems the most fun for you. Regardless of classes, the more people we have the better it is. And don't worry about how long it takes to level or anything, no one's pressuring you. Heck, I've been ready for 3rd Class change for a few days (and I could've gotten there sooner) but I wanted to hunt for gear and mess around.

I'm debating on whether I should focus on Free Cast or Safety Wall, though, because those should help a lot with cast time issues (not that Foresight wouldn't already help with that). So yeah, probably Free Cast. Also I wasn't sure whether to focus on Thunderstorm or Heaven's Drive for an AoE spell, but went with Thunderstorm for the sake of extra damage on frozen enemies. Increase SP recovery is kinda pointless when Indulge seems so much more useful (especially if paired with a Vitata card for healing or something). Thoughts?
EDIT: Or I could find out that Soul Siphon is useless in PvE and have to rethink things. Eh, I'll do that later.

Heaven's Drive has more practical applications because Earth element spells aren't that common.
Safety Wall has more party applications than Free Cast, so I recommend that.

What are you looking to do? IMO there's two classes of builds for professor, pure support (which means land protector is absolutely necessary), or battlebolt (abusing freecast/hindsight for autobolting).
If you're going for battlebolt getting the bolts to 10 is key, as well as getting at least hindsight 4 and freecast 10. Double bolt stacks with autobolting so you could hit an insane amount of DPS with it. Also strongly consider getting fiber lock and maxing stone curse because fiber lock + stone curse + fire bolt = ded. Stone curse turns the monster into Earth 1 element (which increases fire damage by 1.5x) and fiber lock increases fire damage by 2.5x on top of that.
If you're pure support you really don't need to max anything bolt wise, just enough to get prereqs for the land skills + max magnetic earth. Dispell is situationally good, in PvE it can undo turn undead but that's about it.
You don't need to max spell breaker or cast cancel or magic rod, just get enough for your prereqs.

Stat wise if you're battlebolting, it's a balancing act between STR, AGI, and INT (with decent VIT for survivability). More AGI means more swings to proc autobolt, more STR means more physical attack and more INT means more magical attack. There's two styles of battlebolt:
STR 1
AGI/INT 80-90
VIT 40-50
DEX 1 or DEX 30
This one you play unarmed (or use a very fast mod MATK weapon like Bazerald) and just pump AGI/INT (80 each) like crazy. This aims for as much ASPD as possible to trigger autobolt and completely negating physical attack. You basically start a long lvl 10 bolt spell, walk up and start punching the monster, and hopefully in that time you'll get a couple of autobolts off. You don't need as much VIT with this one because you'll have high AGI for flee. You really don't need DEX for this build either, as even though your casts are going to be crazy slow, autobolt procs on every physical attack attempt regardless if it actually lands or not. You could theoretically do 1 STR 1 DEX and be the slowest caster ever but it'll work. With the low DEX and somewhat lowish VIT it's not going to play as well in party role but it's fun as hell to punch a tree to death with fire raining down from the sky.
STR/INT 60-70
AGI 20-40
VIT 80-90
DEX 40-50
The other one uses books and aims for even STR/INT (favoring STR) and high VIT, and a little bit of AGI for attack speed. You won't trigger as many autobolts and your bolt damage won't be as high but the physical attack damage should make up for it. This aims for equal STR/INT (something around 60-70 or so) and high VIT (80-90+). You want high VIT because mage classes get crappy armor choices and with the low AGI you're gonna be taking hits. You make up for the low SP pool/regen from lower INT by having a large HP pool to siphon from for indulge. You'll need DEX as well to not waste the STR, something around 50 or so, which will help cast times. AGI probably around 20-40 should be fine, study gives an ASPD bonus per level and books aren't exactly fast to begin with and you'll be wearing a shield as well, further penalizing ASPD. This build would probably be the best hybrid build, as you still get book smacking goodness but you're still useful in party. The high VIT will be key for survivability and indulge spam.

Few days in and I have a High Thief (Anima Zero). Currently at 35/30 with it. With another day I should be able to get it to Assassin Cross territory.

IMO, a Bathory-carded armor is also a good choice.
Anyway, when I have more time to play RO (my flight back home is tomorrow) I'll focus on getting my Assassin up to speed (ughhhh soloing melee classes without gear = boring) and also focusing on my "secret plan," ehehe.

Unzip this to your Ragnarok Online folder. To enable, type /hoai until it says "using customized AI" or something to that effect and then rest and resummon your homunculus. By default it is passive, to switch it to aggro mode hit Alt+T. Hit Alt+T again to go back to passive.
RAIL saves its configuration in a statefile. The statefile is located in your Ragnarok Online folder and is named RAIL_State.homu.lua. Here's documentation on all its options:

If you make changes to the state file just rest and resummon your homunculus for them to take effect.
Right now the default state file has priorities configured for Ant Hell 1 and Orc Dungeon 2. Excluding those listed maps, in aggressive mode it will automatically attack anything in the search radius, including things well beyond its ability to kill so be careful running around in aggressive mode.
Some settings you may want to change are the max search radius and assist behavior. The radius your homunculus will check for targets is currently set to 14 cells, and if it is beyond that it will automatically come back if you start walking. You can increase it by changing the rail_state["MaxDistance"] line. Do note increasing it dramatically increases system resources and can cause heavy client lag if set too high. It will not assist your target and will stick to listed targetting priorities. If you want it to assist you, change rail_state["AssistOptions"]["Owner"] from "indifferent" to "assist". The homunculus will automatically defend you above all else and will go passive on its own if its HP is below 10%.
Another handy option set you might want to change is rail_state["RunAhead"], rail_state["ActorOptions"]["Default"]["KiteDistance"] and
rail_state["ActorOptions"]["Default"]["KiteMode"]. If you have an Amistr or Lif, setting RunAhead to true, then setting a KiteDistance and KiteMode to "tank" will cause your homunculus to run ahead of you and draw aggro and maintain it by kiting at the specified distance. If the target then changes to attack you, it will then close into melee mode and start attacking until it is the main target again. It's also useful if you have a homunculus with a ranged skill like Vanilmirth. I have a Vani and I have KiteDistance set and KiteMode set to "always" so Vani will always kite and only use Caprice to attack. Setting KiteDistance to -1 means it'll never kite and will always stay in melee range of its target.
The AI already has sensible defaults for skill usage, but if you want to tweak them, run the AI at least once so the AI can detect which homunculus you have and populate the default settings. The AI will autocast all buffs as soon as it can, like for example Lif will use Emergency Avoid whenever it can. Amistr will castle if you're under attack, and Vanilmirth (and Lif too probably but I didn't check) will attempt to heal you if you are under 25% HP.
I have no clue if it's been updated for Homunculus S skills or not but I would assume not. I will probably have to do some work expanding the AI if that's the case.

TSO wanted to AD some MVPs so Slothy and I joined her for the ride, all I did mostly was use Lex Aeterna to boost the damage.
But yeah, we were trying to kill Turtly but in the MVP Arena room we went to there were 3 phreeonis so it basically devolved into us chicken-running away from the goddamn phreeonis and pulling them away so they wouldn't distract us from our actual mark :V

Welp, bad news for Genetics. Looks like RAIL doesn't support the new Homu S dorks and crashes out entirely complaining about unknown skills. I tried AzzyAI, it loads fine and logs seeing targets around it but it refuses to autoattack, it only attacks when ordered. I'll play with it and figure out what needs to be modified to get either of them to work.
e: I dug further into AzzyAI, it's relying on assumptions about the data feed it gets from the AI APIs that don't seem to be compatible with what the client (or server, I don't know what to blame) supplies. I tried routing around some of the routines and I got it to start recognizing things as targets but then the thing spazzed out like mad and locked my client up. Part of that is probably because of the extended sight range, AzzyAI is probably running under the official sight ranges and isn't making any effort to filter results and such. Further work could be done but I'm getting the feeling AzzyAI won't play too well period.
RAIL, on the other hand, works fine with recognizing targets and everything. It just needs to be expanded with the new Homunculus types and skill definitions. Since all Homunculus S types can be bred from all 4 Homunculus predecessors, I'll have to figure out a way, either via API calls or by configuration, to tell it what your old type was before evolving so it knows what skills your Homunculus should have access to. The only tough one is gonna be Elanor since she's a combo style. I'll have to play with her and figure out what her combos are and code in logic for handling them. The rest should be more or less doable.

From what I read while trying in vain to get Azzy to work, it assumes you're *not* playing on rAthena, but rather iRO. Something about actor IDs.

Alchemists are quite potent. Well, Creator's Acid Demonstration is very strong. So strong, that at one point, Gravity had to vastly reduce the VIT of MVPs and other bosses so people couldn't just AD everything to smithereens. Despite that, it's still possible to yield high damage values. Lots of ways to twink for high AD damage. Well, people are saying to use equip like EA enchant Erde/RSB. And Red Twin is far far out of our league, so...

Creator/Genetic is a one trick pony, but it's one hell of a trick. I'm only doing that much damage because I have stupid gear right now, and it's only gonna get crazier once I enchant my bag. Outside of MVPs though I'm completely useless, although not as useless as my SBK sin as I at least have Cart Cannon to do stuff with.

DISCLAIMER: These posts won't go too much into detail on levelling and how to farm money; maybe I'll do a post on this in the future but this is more to get people acquainted on how people can and do play the various classes.
PRIEST / AB
Priests, from what the name suggests, obviously they are the major supporting class of the game. However, aside from the FULL SUPPORT (FS for short) pri/AB, there are other kinds of priests as well though they are less common and usually dismissed in favor of FS priests for MVP parties or major dungeon runs. To distinguish between these major types of priests is the following list:
- Full Support Priest (FS) - They focus on keeping the entire team alive and buffed. The AcoPri class already is armed with a lot of important buffs, though once they reach Archbishop class their healing power is multiplied and they can do AoE buffs (Canto Candidus and Clementia) and even do AoE healing (Coluceo Heal) amongst other interesting utility. Their main stats are INT, DEX and VIT. (Kiro is a FS priest, you can find him @ Hijiri)
- Turn Undead Priest (TU) - These priests focus on using Turn Undead to instantly kill Undead property monsters. They used to be incredibly popular in pre-Renewal because of the ease of accessing Sphinx 4 and killing Anubises with it, which yielded lots of EXP. Now, it's not so popular due to how Renewal vastly changed EXP rates and the EXP table. TU priests focus on the stats INT, LUK and DEX. They choose between either AGI or VIT for survivability.
- Magnus Exorcismus Priest (ME) - These priests use the powerful anti-Undead/Demon nuke Magnus Exorcismus, which is a field spell that constantly casts Grand Cross whenever such Undead and Demon monsters go near it. It is an incredibly powerful spell with its major downside being its incredibly long cast time (10+ seconds at LV10). Furthermore, ME priests are limited only to certain spots to level with this skill. They need to have lots of DEX and INT in order to minimize ME's cast time. They can choose between either VIT or AGI for survivability, most choose VIT thoguh because Flee is useless for Pri at high levels.
- Battle Priest - The most fun type of priest, they attempt to get close and personal with maces or books and bash their enemies to submission. They get damage bonuses (very insignificant) against demon/undead enemies but their ability to buff themselves (especially with Aspersio and Assumptio/KE) and the Archbishop's Duple Light give them increased DPS potential. However, they are super hard to level without gear and they have no AoE at all. Their gear dependence also limits them from supporting the team properly when it's actually needed. They focus on STR, AGI and DEX.
OK, so, they are the major archetypes for building a priest. Personally, I'm not a fan of forcing skill builds on people so instead I'll post some generic guidelines on what skills to pick up per archetype. A rule of thumb though is that typically, if you aren't going to max a skill, you get that skill up to the level that opens up a more important skill. That and there's always the himeyasha skill simulator to play around with so you can figure things out for yourself. I'll also post general tips on what gear and cards to hunt for in case you're ever interested in building such a priest.
FS Priest
Stats:
1. I > V > D (FS Heal VIT Tanker)
THE premier stat distribution for a FS priest. You don't need as much Dex because your buffs do not have much cast time to begin with, so you focus on getting high INT and VIT for higher healing and for higher survivability. A minimum for Stun immunity is 100 VIT including Job bonuses. High level Meditatio means you will be healing for almost 3000 even with minimal gear and you can use Assumptio to really tank some hits. Your INT should be as HIGH as possible, 105~120 at optimal level.
2. A = V > I > D (FS Flee/VIT Tanker)
You sacrifice a LOT of INT (and I mean a lot, because you need lots of AGI to make Flee substantial) in order to maximize your tanking potential. With high VIT, you have a lot of HP, but the high AGI means you get some Flee to buffer the high HP. With appropriate gear, they tank much better than they actually support, meaning to say that the most they can do is probably to provide buffs while tanking, though their healing power is greatly diminished since you'll probably be packing only 50~70 INT.
3. D = V > I > S (FS Priest for GvG)
This only applies to WoE, which we don't have on the server, but I'll still discuss it. Why do we pick up STR? Well, you need increased weight capacity to carry lots of consumables. As a WoE FS Priest, your need for DEX is suddenly much more important as you strive to attain near-IC or FC values, in order for near instantaneous buffs. INT is less prioritized as people in WoE tend to use pots to keep themselves alive. Instead a WoE FS Priest is expected to constantly buff, and spam Sanctuary, KE, and Safety Wall. In fact, due to the high DEX requirement, Resurrection is no longer kept at LV4 as a result. High VIT is to make sure they survive getting ganked by other classes and making pots heal even more.
Skills: Obviously, you're to max skills like Heal, Blessing and Increase AGI as an Aco. Also, Pneuma is a prerequisite. Actually, all types of priests should get these basic Aco skills maxed. Picking up Cure is your choice, most FS Priests actually do so. Angelus at 2 is the typical move that people do, though some people run Angelus 3. The most variety comes at the Pri/HP stage, where you have much more skills to play around with. SP Recovery, as a rule of thumb, should always be LV5 or lower. You can get Meditatio as a FS Priest which is a lot better if you want to, but those points could be spent elsewhere. Magnificat should be maxed, as well as Resurrection. Recovery and Lex Aeterna are a must too. Your choice on what level of KE you want, same with Aspersio/Assumptio/Sanctuary.
Gear:
Upper Headgear
- Dress Hat [1] - A very basic headgear for an FS Priest. Getting it to +7 increases the effectiveness of your heals more than the existing bonus, due to the MATK bonus. A good card to put on this would be either an Isilla or an Elder Willow card, because they grant INT bonuses.
- Ulle's Cap [1] - Only get this if you have an Odin's Blessing armor, since you'd only get this for the combo, which is to reduce SP consumption rate by 10%.
- Circlet [1] - Adds some resistances, supposedly. I forgot the values on this.
- Feather Beret - This is only applicable in WoE, since it reduces damage taken from Demihuman type enemies. Player characters are Demihuman type.
Middle Headgear
- Sigrun Wings - +1 to all stats. Solid.
- Robo Eye - MATK+% bonus. Solid.
- Red Glasses - +1 to INT. Cheaper than Sigrun Wings by 200k on the server cash shop
- Any slotted mid - Because it's slotted, you can add more cards. Unfortunately you can't get slotted mids on this server.
Armor
- Saint Robe [1] - Highly refined, with some stat enchantments will make it work great. A Marc card would be good. If you have a Grand Peco card, you may also use a Peco Peco card.
- Medic's Robe [1] - (KVM WARNING!) Has an awesome combo with the Combat Boots [1] and Commander's Manteau [1]. Until such time we can get KVM stuff, don't worry about this.
- Divine Cloth [1] - Adds bonus status resistance. Decent. However, it has no MDEF versus the Saint Robe
- Holy Robe
- - Highly refined, similar to the Saint Robe except with no slot. However, it reduces damage from Demon race and Shadow property by 15%!!! That's quite good. By the way, a slotted version exists, but the 0 slot version is the only one that drops. And it drops from Magaleta or Pharaoh or Bapho. So good luck with that.
- Odin's Blessing [1] - Honorable mention for the versatility of its set combos.
Weapon
- Recovery Staff - Premier FS Pri weapon, due to the Heal bonus once you refine it to +8~+10. It has an additional effect with the Benevolent Guardian [1], but that headgear takes up both Upper and Middle, so take at your own risk.
- Erde [2] - Slot this with 2 Fabre cards, and it can heal the same as a +7 Recovery Staff. However, it's much harder to get.
- Rod [4] - Only used for the high amount of slots. Use either 4 Fabre OR 4 Drops cards. Drops is better if you're hitting for DEX.
- Dea Staff [1] - An excellent staff which adds a chance to heal 200 SP whenever you use Heal. And each refine rate seems to increase your MATK by a bit. However, it drops from Maya. At 1%-tier rates.
- KVM Cure Wand - As with all KVM gear, this piece of crap is AWESOME. Skill delay reduction, instantly gain 14% increased healing power, and you get a total of 15% extra healing bonus at +10. You can also get a chance to heal somebody twice with one casting of Heal at +9. If you can somehow get this thing to +14...
Shield
- Stone Buckler [1] - Common Shield choice due to the extra VIT and 5% dmg reduction from Large type enemies. Use an appropriate Racial card OR an Alice card for MVPing OR a Hodremlin card if you don't want to farm a bazillion Shields.
- Valkyrja's Shield [1] - Reduces damage taken from 4 different types of monsters by 20%, which is ridiculous. It also has set bonuses because why not? But it drops from Valkyrie at a 5%-tier rate.
- Round Buckler [1] - No special effects, but is notable for having 90 DEF, which is absurdly high for a shield. It's also relatively easy to get, dropping from Stalactic Golems.
Garment
- Wool Scarf [1] - Only get this if you combo it with the Tidal Boots. Wool/Tidal combo is the most popular equipment combo for its solid bonuses and "relative ease" of getting, once you actually unlock the damn Nameless Abbey. Refine this to +7 and pick either Raydric, Noxious or Deviling card.
- Nydhorgg's Shadow [1] - Not viable to get right now but very good stand-alone garment. Same card choices as above.
- Muffler [1] - Temporary placeholder until you get a better garment.
Footgear
- Variant Shoes - Unrefined, for obvious reasons (the HP/SP boost). However, this nasty thing drops from... uh... Berzebub. Yeah.
- Tidal Shoes [1] - Combine this with Wool Scarf for good things. Choose between Verit, Sohee, Green Ferus or Matyr card. Better refine this to +7 too.
- Shoes [1] - Temporary placeholder until you get a better footie

TU Priest
Stats:
1. D >= I > L >= V (Basic TU)
Your aim with this stat distribution is to get a high and healthy balance between DEX and INT in order to hasten the casting of Turn Undead, which has a relatively high cast time for a Priest spell. INT is prioritized over LUK as the offensive stat because INT can affect the damage of your healbombs and your healing potency in general. LUK is picked up at all because it can influence your chances of successfully landing TU, though in Renewal it's not a bad idea to get more than 40 as was customary in pre-Renewal due to how LUK now provides additional MATK. VIT is the preferred survivability stat because Flee is hard to raise on a Priest.
2. D >= I >= L > [V or A] (Skewed TU)
Interesting note is that the Turn Undead success chance rate places equal emphasis on both INT and LUK, the only variable factor being the enemy's current HP. Also, the chance caps at 70%. So you can actually tweak the amount of INT and LUK you have depending on what you want; LUK can also help in adding survivability by having additional Perfect Dodge. But there's not much variance between this TU distribution and the previous one; DEX is still the god stat.
Skills: Similar to the FS Priest; however you can drop some other skills in favor of naturally maxing out Turn Undead at LV10. LV10 makes the base success chance 20%, which in combination with buffing yourself with maxed Gloria (yes you want to max Gloria) and Blessing will make the success chance quite high considering the cap is 70%. Assumptio is a must for this build as well, since it adds to your survivability in case your TUs fail. Resurrection also has the same effect as TU but it costs more (1 Blue Gemstone), however it does have instant cast time right off the bat.
Gear:
Upper Headgear
- Lunatic Hat - Increases LUK by 3.
- Ramen Hat - Increases DEX by 4.
- Apple of Archer - Increases DEX by 3. Get this if you can't afford a Ramen Hat.
- Crown of Mistress - Increases INT by 2 and SP by 100.
- Hat of Fortune [1] - Increases LUK by 2, additional +1 LUK per refine rate past 4. One of the best headgears for a TU Priest, due to the sheer LUK boost potential.
Armor
- Puente Robe [1] - Good for reducing the cast time of TU.
- Sprint Mail [1] - Only get this if you can complete the Sprint set: this mail, with Sprint Shoes and Sprint Ring. The combo increases HP and SP by 7%, reduces variable cast time by 3% and reduces delay by 15%.
- Orlean's Gown [1] - Good for making your casts uninterruptable, furthermore you can offset the increase in variable cast time with the Orlean's combo which is Orleans' Glove + Orleans' Server.
- Cards would be similar to the FS build, for survivability purposes.
Weapon
- Quadruple Dextrous Rod (Rod + 4 Drops) - Excellent for the DEX bonus.
- Survivor's Rod [1], Dex - +3 DEX, with extra HP for as long as you use the Survivor's Manteau.
- Principles of Magic [2] - An absurdly good book due to the INT + 3 bonus. If you equip a Librarian Gloves and a Pocket Watch, you get an additional +5 INT and +700 HP.
Shield
- See the FS Priest for basic Shield gear
- Note: Orleans' Server - Only get this if you have Orleans' Gloves, it will greatly reduce your cast time, and does very well in offsetting the increase in cast time that equipping an Orleans' Gown would force on you. This also means you don't need to waste an accessory slot getting a Phen card.
Garment
- Survivor's Manteau - Only get this if you're using the Survivor's Rod weapon. Keep in mind that the rod is 2h
- Wool Scarf - Solid Tidal/Wool combo as usual!
Footgear
- Tidal Shoes [1] - Solid Tidal/Wool combo as usual!
- Sprint Shoes [1] - Very useful if you can combo this with the Sprint Mail and Sprint Ring. However, on its own the +5% SP Regen isn't useless.
- Variant Shoes - Don't refine this, obviously. Also, don't even think about getting this on this server. It's impossible right now (or ever?)

In other news, I've just realized how handy Rolling Cutter is. I'll stick with Grimtooth for the more dangerous mobs, but RC should help speed up the more tedious farming. Like killing Sky Petites for White Herbs/munny.

Upon taking the backpack off I dealt the expected 1.4x damage on a crit. Using a +9 Durga with The Paper card and no backpack gave a similar crit damage ratio as fists+backpack, though harder to be exact because of the random damage.

Can't be, the damage ratios are relative to the non-crit I was doing with the same gear, as well as the test with no backpack but a different source of crit damage mod giving similar results. IIRC the fists+backpack was 421 damage white, 824 crit.

Confirmed for some reason it's doing 1.4 * 1.4 critical damage if ANY crit damage increasing gear is present, regardless of how much it's supposed to do. I'm trying to track down the faulty line of code. Once I get that sorted out and one other thing I'll have a server update primed and ready. I've already tackled ASPD and left hand MATK.
Also something I've discovered in my testing is double attacks do in fact take priority over crits, and there is a hidden bonus to Double Attack that adds +1 HIT per level IF a double attack triggers. I will be obviously fixing the code to accommodate this.
Server is currently experience connectivity issues due to inclement weather. I apologize, nothing I can do about it for now :(

Server has been patched!
Fixes applied:
- ASPD fixed (hopefully for good). Decrease AGI no longer gives you super powers and poison bottles are at their proper ASPD improvement.
- Nasty poison status bug quashed. By design it's supposed to stop damaging you (but still be active) if you're at 25% HP or less, but not kill you. Instead it was actually killing you! (eek!)
- Left hand MATK is now taken into account when dual wielding weapons with +MATK (biggest benefit being to Kagerou/Oboro). Start doublefisting Bazeralds!
- Critical damage corrected and bonuses are now properly applying. No more double crit damage from just a single Paper card. >>
- Knight skill Auto Counter behavior corrected to official. Auto Counter actually obeys your ASPD, it is not a zero delay attack (and thus not a replacement for actual ASPD). Damage is still way off (it's 2.5x what it's supposed to be) but I'm having trouble finding the culprit.
- Shield Chain and Shield Boomerang should be working now, please let me know if any other skills are broken or not functioning properly.
Initial Port Malay NPCs have been added, not sure how much of it is functional. Malandgo is now fully complete, all functionality should be present and accounted for. Beginnings of Mora have been added, same caveat applies.
I will have exchange NPCs for KVM gear up shortly, just finishing the final touches on exchange rates. Same goes with Mora gear NPCs, so hang onto those handcuffs and bloody runes!

I guess, I'm sure it makes sense but running on no sleep in almost 2 days is probably not helping me understand it. It's not bad code just... I think my Malangdo quests got bugged :ohdear: I brought Chef Nyas the food he requested but he couldn't detect it in my inventory for some reason, unless I just need to bring ingredients, but that hardly makes sense. The (repeatable) food delivery quest is a prereq for the completion of the repeatable Bug Cleanup quest, which I did at the same time, so I'm basically stuck with two useless quests I'll never complete.
e: nvm i'm a bloody idiot. Does the Clean the Ship quest check for the cookies in your inventory? I accidentally ate them all :colonveeplusalpha:

I have it patched, I've also fixed Acid Demonstration not applying element properly (it isn't quite pure neutral, it's forced neutral). Only thing I need to fix is Cart Cannon before I deploy it.

Plants seem to be behaving weirdly right now. Every melee counts as a double attack, and with Double Attack I'm hitting them 4 times per click. Each time is for 1, but if I'm unarmed, it's doing the initial hit as 1 and the follow-up as 97 (unarmed my attack is 96 + 1). Skills are also doing more than the standard 1 hit of damage.
I thought I'd bring this up because Yellow Plants are no longer a challenge anymore and it's really imbalancing the game.
(Apparently this is making Emps super easy to break right now? Not sure if this is intentional or not but I thought I'd bring it up just in case.)

Continuing work on renewal ATK. Should be more or less finished with maybe a few issues here and there.
Notable fixes:
- Mild Wind works again!
- No more doing crazy damages to plants!
- Acid Demonstration and Cart Cannon now properly receive benefits from endows and elemental bonuses then skill is forced back to neutral (or element of cannon ball in case of Cart Cannon) for final damage calculation. Easiest explanation is endows and weapon element do affect damage and help, but you'll always miss on ghost 3/4 property monsters (0% neutral)
- Soul Breaker now working according to renewal behaviors. Still doing a teensy bit too much damage as MDEF is not being applied yet but will be once magic attack is rewritten.
- Other numerous skills corrected or updated with official behaviors.
- Big one, VITDEF now applying damage reduction per hit rather than against total damage (as per official behavior). Big defense change.
As usual please leave feedback if anything is wonky or not working right!
e: figured out why ice pick crits were less, because the ice pick effect was getting turned off if you get a crit when it should have been left on. Ignore def overrides ice pick (because there's no def at all for it to bonus off of, it's calculated at def reduction time).

Sorry found another rather big bug. Arrows were adding straight into equipment ATK without checking if the skill actually used arrows or not. Autoattacking with 1k per hit on my Genetic, while hilarious, is totally OP lol. It's been quashed.

Just found another one on my novice, which I tested again against Matsy's high flee: my normal attacks were still doing my base damage (i.e. the 5 in 5+45) even if I missed. Not much of a thing, but with high ASPD and high STR it could still be abusable.

Crit bonus damage is borked again, I was a dumb and forgot to put a condition check to differentiate between renewal and pre-renewal crit behaviors. Crits themselves are fine, you'll just get a far disproportional bonus from crit bonus damage gear like The Paper card. I'll fix it during the next downtime, it's not critical enough (lolpun) that I feel like I have to take the server down immediately to fix.

I'm considering removing the MVP arena as it is now, and making Bloody Branches purchasable and setting up an NPC that will warp you to an empty map you can open them on. You can also use this for Dead Branches as well.
As it stands now I think the MVP Arena is a bit "too" easy to farm, and at the same time, too limited in choice. But rather than expand the MVPs that can be spawned (and potentially adding further to the farming issue) I think that would be an even compromise. And with using Bloody Branches I can tweak which bosses can get spawned from it and you don't exactly get to pick which MVP you can farm over and over, adding a bit to the challenge :b

IMO, if you want to poke people, you only really need Shield Spell kept at LV1. You can move those two points to max out Cannon Spear.

I don't really see myself using cannon spear much because its damage is more based on STR, which I don't have much of.
Meanwhile, Overbrand's power is boosted by Spear Quicken level, Moon Slasher is boosted by Overbrand level, Banishing Point is boosted by Bash level, and Pinpoint attack is versatile and based on AGI. All things I do have covered pretty well in comparison.

Are you talking about the poison damage?
The poison is approximately 1% per second, which is, in fact, 3% maximum HP per 3 seconds.
I have conducted a test on Ant Eggs. The poison is working correctly. However, the initial hit damage is what's confusing me.
Envenom w/ +9 Blood Tears = 118 dmg fixed
Envenom w/ +9 Boned Infiltrator = 118 dmg fixed
Envenom w/ +7 Triple Saharic Katar of Piercing Wind = 118 dmg fixed
Envenom w/ Weapon = 118 dmg fixed
Envenom w/ Unarmed = 88 dmg fixed

That happened to me, as well, but pressing the actual hotkey worked for me, either way.
Though to be fair I don't use Endure much, so whatever.

I randomly tried pressing the shortcut key binded to Endure, and it suddenly works! However, the skill icon is still blackened out. It's still weird since it didn't work for many hours.
EDIT: This also happened for Magnum Break, Shield Spell and Prestige; I use Overbrand 90% of the time so this isn't a big issue for me.
EDIT2: Suddenly unlocked again. It seems to be overly random.

For the Endure/etc thing, this is a known bug with no real ETA on fixing it. As for envenom this will be fixed on the next patch.

I think our best bet at this point would be vanishing point spam on turtle general while I tank the damage with white pots... we could do it that way.
definitely need pierce defenses though, although I think Matsy said she had a spear that could do that.

Just that it was really the whole "lots of people playing at first and then at the end of the day nobody's touching it again" routine that I've been seeing for the Nth time and it's really a darn shame.

Reached a landmark of my current build; probably the strongest MVP I can take down solo.
So right now my main activity is reduced to logging in about 2-3 times a day to kill Tao Gunka for the card.

Trying to do ~*The Sign Quest*~ (http://irowiki.org/wiki/Sign_Quest), just finished the dance test (f*ck that test and thank god for Cloaking Exceed) and things were proceeding as they should be... until I hit a snag.
I need to deliver a stone (we're talking a high quality item here, not something you can pick up just anywhere) to a Crusader Knight in Yuno, named Leibach. The dude keeps telling me this isn't what he ordered. I go back to the butler guy, and he just says "You haven't delivered the stone yet?" and not to lose it and blah-blah-blah. I drop the stone and try talking to Mahatra again, same dialogue about not losing it. I pick it back up, go to Yuno, talk to Leibach, same thing he said before. I drop it, talk to him, and NOW I get options for talking to him. I keep trying all of the options and nothing. Pick the stone up again, talk to him, and he tells me it's not what he ordered.
So uhhh.... help? I also feel like an Oridecon Anvil won't do me much good for the smithing part, and after the first fail, you have to use a Golden or Emperium Anvil. This wouldn't be so much of a problem except that I have no idea how the hell to get them aside from opening a metric crapton boxes.

As someone who's only gone the Wizard route, Sage is somewhat interesting... though I feel like I'm not getting the most out of the class since I'm really unfamiliar with it. I've also been pumping Dex and Int solely, and I was wondering if there was a good cut-off point for either of those stats and what else to invest in. I'm going to do some Abracadabra shenanigans once I hit 99 so I can get some more pets, so if I inadvertently summon any MVPs, I'll post it here.
(Is there a way to shut pets up? I forgot how cringe-inducing their dialogue can be at times, though the Sohee has been quite tolerable.)

I'm guessing that part's dependant on what time it is according to the server. I couldn't do the step with Sir Jore one day because I missed his available times, but when I did the step leading up to the dance test (bring Authoritative Badges with you, they help), I didn't have to wait the 23 hours to give him the artsy items. I think our server ignores most wait times, but time based events are still in effect.
... maybe that's what's wrong with my part. Maybe Leibach can't tell it's the stone he desires unless the sunlight hits it at just the right angle.
After playing around with Abracadabra for a while, the novelty's wearing off and I realize getting a single pet may run into the thousands/millions (in regards to both Zeny and Yellow Gemstones).
I got the Pet Taming prompt once.
I thought it was a special "You'll get the egg for sure!" custom skill.
It was not.
Most of the pets I want are 2% taming chance.
Miyabi Doll food isn't available in the shop.

Also if any of you don't mind spending a few tokens, the octopus instance is also a good way to get Mastela fruits, an alternative to white potions. You can also accumulate enough Malango coins to enchant your weapon.

... so you're probably gonna hate my guts, but uhhh... there's an Orc Lord in the west caves. It's also Lvl 102, and not the standard Lvl 55. I Abracadabra'd a Medusa. :V
I don't know how to MVP so I'm out. Nolene was on and gave it a go, but the furthest she got him down to was 29%.
Whoever kills him, please let me know, because I feel pretty guilty about messing up a map.
I won't play with Abracadabra anymore, I've learned my lesson. Magic is not a toy, it's a privilege, and must be treated with the respect that it deserves... which amounts to pulling rabbits from hats.

This brings up an interesting point, though... if you make an MVP with Class Change, does the MVP have the stats it'd normally have as an MVP (regardless of level), do stats get scaled according to level, or do they keep the stats of the monster you used Class Change on?

I'm planning a big update in the near future. Abracadabra has been rewritten to match proper official skill behavior, Eclage (including Hazy Forest) is almost complete, and I've made some discoveries with regards to official high refinining (+11 and up). Basically the current chances and behaviors are WAY WAY WAY WRONG. I've derived the actual chances and behaviors when you're chasing an +11 and up upgrade:

If refine fails, on official another random number 0-100 is rolled. If number > 80 item is broken, otherwise item is dropped a refine level (so in effect 20% chance to break on fail).
Oh and the official HP/SP fix is almost complete as well. I've been a busy bee helping with rA :D (I didn't actually do Eclage and HP/SP but I'm helping test them).

To be honest I haven't had any time to really get in the mood to play either. I've been spending way too much time taking care of real life stuff to even update the server. I don't plan on taking it down as it's just on my home server, but I imagine it'll just end up like this where we'll go through spurts of wanting to play and then some dead time and then back again.
I'll just make sure to keep the light on if anyone wants to play.

Unfortunately it's a bit too late but honestly since I'm not worried about econ (or any sort of "balance" for PvP/etc), I'm not resetting anything. Plus at this point the server is in maintenance mode for the most part. I'm leaving it up for people who wish to futz around and play on it and I imagine every once in a while I and other people might get the itch to play again and I'll happily do my part to keep the light on for those times.
I will still be improving it and fixing things, so if you're playing and notice something broken/wrong definitely let me know. It's all valuable feedback to me :3

Player movement in rAthena is best described as "I swear to God, the pathing was never this stupid back then!" It's easy to get stuck on thin walls and corners, among other things, causing many an unfair death to mobs.

rAthena pathfinding is one of the shittiest things about it, I swear. I haven't delved into it as deeply as fontpants has but Jesus Christ.

Well I know it's awful, it's just that I don't think I've ever played an MMO with good pathfinding so I just assumed it was bog standard :V

The biggest difference right now is how hit detection and "flinching" is handled. On AEGIS what's supposed to happen, is server detects a hit, tells the client it's hit. When you're hit, you do the flinch animation, and at that point you resume walking. If you were less than halfway through a cell when getting hit, then you get moved back to the start of the cell, otherwise you continue going forward. At the end of it all you still keep on moving though. What endure is supposed to do is remove the flinch animation. There's still the half-cell check, so it's still possible to hitlock monsters/players with endure (just attack faster than their walk speed and they'll never move more than a half cell before getting hit). That's how on officials high ASPD snipers would hitlock slow monsters like Atroce or Ktullanux.
Athena currently does none of this. When you're hit your movement actually stops and resets. That's why you rubberband like crazy when getting hit, because on the server you've stopped moving but your client thinks it should still be (because on AEGIS that's what's supposed to happen). Endure removes all movement hindrance, when you get hit you just keep on moving uninterrupted, so endure is actually better on Athena.
As far as mob AI goes, the easiest way to explain is that each monster is a state engine. They all have a state they're in, and when a condition is checked (IE I got hit or a target came within my visual etc), it changes into a state like ATTACK or CHASE or stuff like that. On Athena, target is an attribute. When you walk out of sight range, target is reset and the monster returns back to idle since it has no target. On AEGIS, targetting is actually an active state, so when you leave sight, the monster still actually has you as a target. So for example, if you hit a normally non-aggressive monster, walking out of vision doesn't immediately reset the aggressive state. A monster will hold aggro until it's lost target on you long enough to time out the aggressive state. On Athena once it's lost target the aggressive state is considered invalid and the monster goes back to passive. This is just one of several divergences between AEGIS and Athena mob AI.
I actually just pinned down official Cloaking behavior and how the speed boost check is handled. It's been wrong this entire time. When you're on a wall you're supposed to move faster than off wall. Originally this check was done on every cell, once you left a wall you lost your speed boost immediately. This is not how it's handled on AEGIS. On AEGIS the check for speed boost only occurs on the cell your walk ORIGINATES from. For example, say you have 2 walls, and a gap about 10 cells across. If you start from one wall, and click on the opposite wall, and do not give another move command, you'll actually keep the speed boost the entire time, despite crossing a gap without touching any walls. But, if say halfway through the crossing you give another move command, you will immediately lose the speed boost, because when you give that second move command server checks your position and sees you're not on a wall and takes away the speed boost. The wall check for if you remain cloaked happens on every cell regardless, so if you're using cloaking levels 1 or 2 and you cross a gap you will still lose cloak immediately.
There's a lot of older skills like that that have been wrong that nobody's actually bothered to get the proper behavior on that can make drastic gameplay differences.

I tried creating an account following the instructions but it fails to connect to the server.
The patcher also fails to execute the launcher, so I started that directly. Now I don't know if I did something wrong with creating the account or something else happened.
