Link's broken, bro.
Fixed.
Also added the recent new additions to the directory.
Now, for a conversation starter - what do you find fun about drawing?
All Artist+ doing a Touhou Doujin, that would be neat. Even selling it in Comiket. With Satsuki Rin as a main character.
And as thoroughly unrealistic as it is for all the Artists++ to make a compilation doujin, I must confess it is a neat idea.
Did someone say "Rin Satsuki"? 'Cause I think I heard someone say "Rin Satsuki", ufufu~
can you put my music thread in the list? it's here (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=5818.0)
what do you find fun about drawing?Dunno, I just like to draw shit.
Hiyas, fellow denizens of the Atelier~ I'm sort of back, after a long (3 weeks?) period of absence. Just so you know that I'm available again in case you ever need anything with regards to the Atelier.
w00t.
now why dont the music threads get any replies? :<
I had an idea.Oh gee, I just thought of that idea while listening to music (specifically unused PC-98 tracks) while thinking of how to remix it! >//////<
What if we collaborate and make a music album, sell it at some touhou event and donate the cash to a charity?
And as thoroughly unrealistic as it is for all the Artists++ to make a compilation doujin, I must confess it is a neat idea.*astounded*?????? :*
cmon, let's do itKICK REASON TO THE CURB
Hmm ... Last night I had this idea of organizing an "Exquisite Corpse" comic -- basically, we get a bunch of different artists together, and each one makes a single page, and everyone sees only the previous page.I like this idea :3c
Um, that's what I said after you had already said it? :derp:

For those of you who want their art/music thread links replaced with a logo or icon, just post it here and let me know. Please make sure it's 150x150px, just for uniformity.150x150, so it could be sized like our avvies? Hnn?
Uh.
Hi.
Sure amigo, long as boss aproved then I don't mind. She doesn't know yet, since she is not around. I can assure you though that if there's someone she will trust with helping out here, it's me.
Will I need to resubmit this months contest entry?Indeed you will. I will mention it in the Contest thread later as well. Since I have no idea if Gappy will be around when deadline hits, I would like if all entries were submitted to me as well.
you can always find me on #scarlet-library, the PSL-channel.
Why the hell do you think we're just gonna walk into enemy territory unarmed with a big smile on our facesWell, Gappy got the idea for an AAA-channel from PSL in the first place.
Think we're gonna fall for that?
Your strategies won't fool me :<
Well, Gappy got the idea for an AAA-channel from PSL in the first place.Naturally.
Naturally.
:PCause we're at war with the library and because we want to be just like them, but betterBecause the possibility of a separate IRC channel for the Atelier was discussed earlier with a certain librarian, I thought it'd be nice to set it up for our Atelier community.
But really, drop the sarcasm please, there's no reason to be so edgy. If you don't like me helping out here, say so outright and propose another course of action.there was no sarcasm in there!
there was no sarcasm in there!Okay, sorry for misinterpreting. ^^
sorry if it seemed like that.
The IRC channel has way too few users... nobody ever talks in there anymore >.>
2) What happened to the art tips/tutorials thread? Thinking of starting a new one. It could have a directory of helpful studies and videos and other resources, and also be a place for critique. I would also give it a witty title like "Art Tips Thread II: Like Hidamari Sketch but Less Glamorous" or "Art Tips Thread II: Border of Life Drawing" or "Art Tips Thread II: Ropes? Where We're Going, We Don't Need Ropes."

I guess people really don't frequent general advice in either, causing our suggestions to go to specific people's caveats....
I also thought something like a Art-blocked/Inspiration/Motivation topic would be nice y'know for times when artist get stuck in that block or something of the sort and needs a few tips and such.
Can someone help me with photobucket? I don't use it but other people do and I'm having a real problem. Take Pasu's picture in this post: http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,12837.msg870315.html#msg870315What's the problem? Can't get it to load or something? You were after the one with the EoSD charas, yes?
Did Pasu really make a 160 x 49 pixel picture? REALLY? Because I'm almost sure there must be a larger version that I just can't see, and it kinda kills me when I see a picture thumbnail that I like, click on it, and then find photobucket crushing my hopes of seeing a cool picture.
I'd go if there were actually people there, if that means anything.
As would I. But it's pretty strange that the channel's empty despite the number of artists we have here.As is the whole board not getting a lot of attention. Though recently there's been more delicious art and I think traffic is improved too.

On that note, MERP AND PASU WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS ;________;Herp is busy with
What's the problem? Can't get it to load or something? You were after the one with the EoSD charas, yes?I think it's the only image on there, and I do see Remilia and Flandre. A thumbnail loads just fine and when I click on it, I get taken to a photobucket page with the same thumbnail. Is that thumbnail all Pasu wanted to post?
Vento and i are gonna pixiv chat in 30mins or so after she finishes food if interested
It's 2:30 right now so I'm probably going to be in bed by then. Toooooo bad.
Hey, does anybody know where to find Touhou guitar tabs? This (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,410.0.html) what you're talking about?
Nobody? :<
e: Wait why is that on Rika's? Shouldn't it be here?I... don't know? At this point it's been in Touhou Projects for about the past three years, so I guess it's fine there?
I do want to mention that wacom's come with a software disc that has Painter and Adobe Photoshop Elements however.Useless nerfed software.
But that's the thing, a lot of Monoprice reviews (http://frenden.com/the-little-monoprice-graphics-tablet-that-could/) seem to say the things are incredible, superior or equal to the Wacoms, at a much smaller price. At any rate, it's more worth it than to fork out a lot of cash on a premium tablet for a first time user.
Useless nerfed software. It's free and quite usable to get a feel for the tablet without having to download or buy something though. Think that was mainly is its use is.
There's the Social thread (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,5099.0.html) to talk about stuff :derp:
Also Monoprice is cheap as fuc and everyone says they're the best thing since sliced bread so.
Actually, instead of purchasing a program, you could ask around if anyone you know are willing to share theirs? For example, my dad borrowed the photoshop disc and code from his friend so I could install it onto my computer.Sharing software bought with a single user license is technically illegal, or at least frowned upon. "Borrowing" it on a trial like basis is borderline though. Still think just using the freeware you can get (depending on the OS) such as the ones previously mentioned in the thread is still a good thing to do before investing in PS.
The screen resolution of your monitor should match the available tablet space on the tablet. There'll be a select part of the tablet where the pen will only work, in a rectangle shape. That box should have the same aspect ration as your monitor or else it'll go a bit crazy and when you're drawing your strokes will get stretched or compressed unnaturally.
Screen resolution doesn't really matter as long as the aspect ratio matches, and that's adjustable through driver calibration, anyway. The size of the monitor has no relationship with the tablet, the screen resolution isn't a problem either.
The size of the monitor has no relationship with the tablet, the screen resolution isn't a problem either.
The tablet will probably come calibrated to a 16:9 screen(as in, the active responsive surface of the tablet will be in 16:9 shape) because that's the ratio for most monitors, but even if you do have something else, that's usually adjustable through the drivers.
::completelyignored::
I use sai, though. Tried playing with it regardless, but didn't find what I was looking for ^^;
Site is down now, though? That, or it was limited and we all missed it.
I hope this is the right place to ask :ohdear: When I color my lineart, the paint bucket tool leaves some white pixelly outline in some parts. I tried just filling that outline with the right color using the pen tool, but then it makes the lineart look worse and even awkward, like so (please ignore the incompleteness of the coloring). (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/51/happysatori.png/)
I'd appreciate help on avoiding this problem.
It looks like its not free after all. (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4974662)Thought it was too good to be true that Adobe would be giving out free $500 dollar software. Oh well.
So it would still technically be illegal to download it.
Don't use the paint bucket. Make a separate layer (or layers) for color underneath the lineart layer. Use the magic wand on the lines--the selected area will show up in blue--then add or subtract from the selected area as necessary, using the SelPen and SelEras tools, and finally switch to the color layer and hit Ctrl+F.
you're gonna tire yourself out :<too late :<

* About the hands size I like to use the facepalm method, you do a facepalm and after you imagine your drawing doing a facepalm, can the hand that you drew do a facepalm like you did IRL? Anyway don't forget that girls have smaller handsim dumb and used my own hand for reference (although to be fair my hands are kinda feminine :V)
* About the arm size, imagine your drawing touching the left shoulder with the left hand, does it look natural?i think the problem is more the overall length? i made the forearm and uh... upper arm about the same length which is correct i think???
* The hands look flat because you drew it in a flat position, try to search in google about "relaxed hands";looking at it again i realize i literally drew them flat when i really wanted them at more of an angle toward the camera
* Also I like to use reference points when drawing complex things like hands, you start drawing from somewhere, like the finger 1 and use this finger as a reference of size, angle and position to do the rest of hand:
Noob example (http://imageshack.us/a/img811/3867/handsketches.jpg)
* Generally people don't use flat shoes, its sole has some kind of curve or slope, reference (http://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1439636?tags=hata_no_kokoro)
Hi I was told there was a party going on. Am I invited?uh i guess? although its kinda like saying i need to draw better... by drawing better. im looking for more specific advice like maybe have someone draw all over my shit with corrections like a crazy english teacher or w/e
MERP HAS ARRIVED. COMMENCE THE MEETING OF THE IMPERIAL COALITION OF MAGNANIMOUS DRAMA QUEENS.
I dunno about proportions and all that jazz because I hardly care about those, but y'see, your figure ain't...
...Natural.
Now I'm going to assume that Hata-chan here is 'free falling'. Try to think of the...flow, as it were. Would her arms be as rigid as they are in the drawing? Straight, with palms facing to the side? Doubt it. She should also be assuming a more...curved pose, while I'm seeing an L shape here.
Concept man. Concept. Natural. Think, think think.
...did I make sense at all?
She should also be assuming a more...curved pose, while I'm seeing an L shape here.people's backs don't really "curve" that much though and legs can't curve upwards (unless you're double jointed or something which im assuming hata isnt)
http://puu.sh/3kZjn.jpgis it something like this brb while i draw a better one AND DONT LAUGH ;-;
oh holding something alright
why is everything you draw so cuuuteeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
e: i actually flipped kokoro to her side when i started (that is, the arrow was facing left) and constantly flipped her back up and back down because yeah : Jparty hard gif pls
http://puu.sh/3kZyt.jpg so something like thisoh snap
oh snap
it's the anime op falling in water thing
Hey Suikama,
Here take a look at this (https://www.google.com/search?&site=imghp&tbm=isch&biw=1366&bih=610&q=person+falling)
You'll notice that there is a lot of vertical. Whether it's the legs, arms, a single thigh, or entire body, something is going up. And the limbs are generally kind of all over the place. Right now your Kokoro's pretty stiff.
Also yeah don't worry too much about not doing well in this pose because yeah, it's a pretty dynamic thing... I don't think I'll be trying something like that anytime soon. There's a lot of limb things to take into consideration.
how would we know you didnt even enterrrrrrrrbeats me lol
what canvas size do you guys work with :derp:I am cool, for this entry I drew a circle 1024x1024. :V
so you're reading japanese books translated to english then double-translated to russian?AFAIK Ushwood translates directly from Japanese.
ok sorry i'm doneOkay, no complaints then. :derp:
MotK artists time!(Another guy posted just 2 minutes before I did.)

UPD This thread became very active now! :V
The captchas suck epically, I agree.
Anyway, with regards to something said above, I'd love more collaborative projects! I think I'm the only Western Touhou artist on the Internet who didn't get in the AWA scroll project (found out too late to sign up -- SO. JEALOUS.), so it'd be nice to find a way to get into the art scene here and chat with other artists and work on big projects. :)
don't worry you weren't the only one, found out too late to join it myself and even then my art skills suck too much anyway so I wouldn't have been able to join regardless.
At any rate, recently when I've been trying to draw anything it just comes out wrong, even when I use the stick figure method, the box method and so on, nothing works and it's REALLY frustrating me in more ways than one, any ideas to help with this art slump?
Draw from a photo.
Draw from a photo.
In it's current bare form, the Wiki is now open for registration (http://helpme.shrinemaiden.org/wiki/Main_Page). We currently have some resident artists interested in working on a logo for us, so we'll have one in due time. If you'd like to contribute a logo as well, feel free - if we have more than one logo we will rotate them!
Do you even imagine how it is when you cannot draw Claes, Henrieta or at least Triella, because you just fail?
Henrietta or Triela? (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,15184.0.html)
I knew there was something wrong with the names... but not, Delfi, not these ones (http://stat17.privet.ru/lr/0a09da97724ffb1121d1759f7555e2df).(http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/6610/110955323.6/0_a5dc7_84ae66c6_orig) huhwhat
I know this is stupid, but at the same I really just feel like I have to put this out there.Where's our royalties?
Doesn't help in the slightest unless you actually learn something from it. You might as well tell him to eyeball an anime screenshot.
Also yeah it's artblock, you have three choices. Do as Pasu suggested and doodle silly stuff, try and force your way through it or just take a couple of days break. You won't get anywhere stressing about it.
I just feel uncertain about posting in the music thread link at the front pageWait there's a general music thread? I was just thinking of asking about it here too. Not that there seems to be too big or little of a demand for a general 'post your music' thread, or maybe simply even adding it in the title of the general artwork thread, since people seem to be doing that already already. You know, just, can't see any fish in the pond but we should try casting out some bait and see how many gather anyway. I was looking through the really ancient threads here in AAA and was surprised to see some of the veterans posting lots of music threads back in their day. May be nice.
Now I started to try to draw heads looking down/up, after reading this notification I tried to draw a sad guilty face looking down but I think that she looks a bit angry too. Anyway it's fine, maybe chaging the mouth could change this but I am without correction fluid :VI wonder if a GA-like contest was revived, how many people would participate now?
