Title: Fate/Kaleido-Round 8, Phase 1 (Orders)
Post by: Amraphenson on November 07, 2011, 07:05:05 AM
Her fingers are laced, her chin resting atop them as her elbows rest upon the table. Sprawled out before her is a glimmering image, a simulacrum of Izaya City.

"How amusing," she whispers aloud, more to herself than anyone else. Even so, the dolls around her thrum with unspoken agreement. A trio of shadowy figures loom behind her, and lounging at her feet is a vast beast.

A card flickers in front of her, revealing the figure of a sword wielding knight. "Saber. Jeanne De Arc. The Matyr of France. Saint of Sacrifice."

It turns once and shifts. Left there on the card's face is a spear man. "Lancer. Vlad the Third. Impaler of Wallachia. The legendary 'Vampire' himself."

Once again, leaving a plain archer aiming for the sky. "Archer. An enigma."

Then another turn, revealing a cloak clad figure. "Caster. Tamano no Mae. The primordial Nine Tailed Demon Fox of Japanese Legend."

This time, a masked vagrant. "Assassin. Jack the Ripper. Not much else really needs to be said."

Yet again, leaving a emancipated, vicious looking beast. "Berserker. Frankenstein's Monster. The modern Prometheus."

Then one last time, showing a horse riding warrior. "Rider. Honda Tadakatsu. General to Oda Nobunaga himself."

She smiles as the card falls flat, head tilting ever so slightly. "What an interesting assortment of Servants," she breathes out. "Truly interesting."

----

The war is beginning.
Everyone dies.
But who first?
Fight for your wish.

----
Fate/Kaleido, the Holy Grail War of the Maidens of the Kaleidoscope. Starts the eleventh of November, 2011.Now meeting at #FeitoMeido! Currently in progress!
http://webchat.ppirc.net/?channels=feitomeido

Izaya City
A ocean side city along the coast of Japan. The chosen location for the Holy Grail War, at least for this iteration. Population is about 5 million. Famed for it's shrine district, filled with holy places both abandoned and in use. Also a popular port for trade, leading to its prosperity.
(Black lines are bridges.)
Light Green: Quiet, suburban residential areas. The amount of civilians here is the greatest. The land is rather flat. No large buildings. May feature parks or fields, shopping complexes, and other entertainment features. (9 does not feature as many residents or buildings, as it connects to the country side.)(1, 4, 9, 10, 12)
Dark Brown: The industrial sector of Izaya City. Large number of factories and offices; the buildings are all about 6 stories high and rather wide, in general. (3)
Yellow/Orange/Citrusy color: Dock zone of Izaya City. Lots of ports, harbors, and warehouses. The main entrance to Izaya City's vast sewage system is also here. (5, 6, 13)
Grey: The High Rise sector of Izaya. Office buildings, radio towers, shopping malls, you name it. Extremely popular during the night and the weekends. (2)
Dark Green: Sacred grounds. The location of the Grail War Organizer. Very rural feeling, has many shrines. The Grail War Organizer herself is located in one of the largest abandoned shrines in the area. Unavailable for starting zone. (11)
Blue: Mountainous zones. Very few, if any development, let alone inhabitants. Hidden in these forests may be any number of things...(7, 8, 14)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
War System: (In Progress)
After all set up is complete, a map of the area will be released. 13 sectors, each representing a separate layline, will be available; Masters and Servants are to deliberate over which of the sectors they start and have control in. First come, first serve basis. This will take up to three days.

After that, the war falls into a routine.
Step 0: Masters and servants are given a random number, 1-7.
Step 1: Masters decide what they wish to accomplish. They can either move to establish control over a sector, defend a sector, reconnaissance, or recuperate. Master and Servant actions can be separate, depending on rank of Independent Action. These actions are to be PM'd to me.
Step 2: Servants are sent into areas based on Step 1. A PM will be sent to all areas of conflict, ie areas where more than one Master or Servant has entered, describing the situation. Players are then to PM their chosen actions back to me, along with possible contingencies.
Step 3: All situations that arise as a result of Step 2 are RP'd out.
Step 4: Results of the round are determined. Updated map is released. Two days of break are given.
Step 5: Round repeats.

Example:
Step 2:
Master 1 sends Servant, who has Independent Action: A, into sector 12.
Master 3 accompanies his Servant to sector 12.
A PM is sent to both Master 1, Servant 1, Master 3, and Servant 3.
In this case, Servant 1's acts first due to Independent Action before obtaining orders from his Master.
Actions on both sides are determined

Servant 1:
Engage in Combat
Pursue if enemy retreats
Do not reveal abilities

Master 1:
Gain information on enemy
Retreat if combat escalates

Master 3 and Servant 3:
Engage and attempt to kill
Do not pursue if enemy retreats
Servant protects Master over going for kill shots
Master supports but does not engage

Battle ensues, as Master 1's orders have yet to arrive. The Servants both wound each other moderately. Battle would most likely continue to the death, but Master 1's orders arrive. Servant 1 retreats. Master 3 and Servant 3 obtain control over Sector 12, but Master 1 has obtained information on Master and Servant 3's combat abilities, where as Master and Servant 3 only know of Servant 1's.

What do you have in mind?

Like, an RP sorta vs thread where we have days, and the master and servant have to coincide and agree on their actions that day, and I DM and shit and...yeah.

Uh, can I reserve a slot? Not sure yet.

Sure.

What kind of holy grail war doesn't involve killing people? We could totally make some kind of prize for the winners, I guess.

Guess I'll be a Master.
I'll make do with any Servant Class, as long as it isn't Berserker.
Those guys aren't very controllable, especially Spartacus. :ohdear:

I dunno, but I'll be fine as long as I don't get Berserker class.
Those guys are hard to control, and tend to have massive mana upkeep.
No way I'm going for that. I'm crazy, not insane. :V

The masters then make their own characters, and the servants get to choose from that list or make their own, with guidelines on both cases.
...Emphasis mine, but yeah, I don't think you'd have a problem with that.  Although I will fight you for position as Berserker. :3

Or Lancer.

Or Saber.

I'm sure it was stated that he could have been spawned as any of the Knight Classes. Probobly coulda passed for a Rider too with Pegasus. [But... well... Rider took that Noble Phantasm] I think only Assassin and, obviously, Caster, would have been unavaliable to him.

This sounds pretty interesting, but I'd need more information on whether you're going to be applying actual mechanics or going to be making it free-form, and how it's going to be run - IRC, forum, etc. I'm in if there's space and it's forum-based.

I said that if I wake up and found slots full, I'd laugh.
>Very nearly full anyway when I wake up.
>Laughs anyway.

Anyways, here's how it works. Servants and Masters are randomly paired off, then they choose their characters. Only Apocrypha or Extra servants are allowed; in Extra Caster's case and Extra Saber, we can deliberate stats. Arcuied is unavailable.

We can decide who decide who gets what class later.

Actually, I might paiir off based on whic servant is what and what the masters want.

Let's get everyone first.

Can I play as Extra!Berserker?  Not Lu Bu, no, the other o-

*is shot*

...Sorry. >.<  Um... I'm fine with any class, really, but I'd prefer to be a Servant.  There are some I'd favour over others, but... We'll see.

Also, there's no problem with Jack being a girl, as far as I see it.  He was never caught, and quite a few of the theories about who he was do put forward the idea that he was actually a she, so.

Astolfo possesses various magical equipment which he employs throughout his adventures. His magic lance can knock his opponents from their horses with the slightest touch, and his magic book contains spells capable of breaking any enchantment. He also owns a magic horn whose blast is so loud that it causes all enemies to flee in terror and rides upon a horse named Rabicano. This magical horse is made of hurricane and flame, feeds on air and it treads so lightly that it doesn't leave footprints in the sand, and when it runs at full speed it can run faster than an arrow.

Well, he IS a Rider-class, so does he get a magic hurricane-flame horse while breaking enchantments of any kind before TERROR HORNING them? :V

Heroic Spirits can be spawned as multiple classes. This one, for example, could be Lancer, Caster, Rider or Berzerker [Any Servent can be Berzerker-class, but those that would not 'naturally' be one end up like Canon Berzerker, robbed of their will and mind for power. Someone like Attilla the Hun [Random Exaple] would still be sane as a Berzerker... because they would qualify for it anyway.]

To provide more examples, Archer could have probobly spawned as Saber-Class, or maybe even Lancer. Saber herself might have been able to spawn as a Rider, due to English on Horseback and whatnot. Lancer could have been a Berzerker, a sane-type one, easily, and maybe even Assassin.

It's not a rule that's enforced very well, especially in side materials like Apocrypha and Extra, which are what we seem to be using here. >.>

I'd disagree. Not all heroes can spawn as berserkers; primary casters most prominently. King Arthur had no history of going apeshit, and if summoned as Berserker, Fate!Lancer would most likely be in his mythical super mode, which was knwon for cutting loose.

And we all know there are exceptions to the Hassan rule, more exceptions in fact compared to straigh assassins. Two Hassans vs fake Assassin, Fate Extra assassin, and Apocrypha.

As a rule, Assassin must always be Hassan.

I missed that.

Good eye.

And I was under the impression that Illia outright stated that any servant can be summoned as a Berzerker, but doing so robs them of their mind. That said, the wiki says otherwise. Maybe the translation I saw was wrong? Or maybe my memory failed.

This is what happens when you avoid /Type Moon for a while.

Only those who have actually gone mad can qualify for Berserker. Hercules qualified as he went mad and killed his family, which resulted in him doing the twelve labors to make up for it.

Reading more into the Assassin class... all of the members are kinda... homogenous.

It might be a good idea to bend the rules like Assassin [Summoned by Caster] did... that, or say simply say 'Just because all 4 of the real Assassins were from that clan, dosen't mean they all are', for RP purposes.

Aw, so Astolfo wouldn't have the lance, spellbook, horse and horn altogether? :V

EDIT: Although it seems reasonable not to have all that, given his artwork depicts him as using a sword, and there's little space to hide a magical lance. A tome might be made a case for, but breaking any enchantment smells like an "I WIN" button against those who rely on magic invested equipment :V

I always assumed that the "all Assassins are from the Hashishin" thing was either a mistranslation or Nasu screwing up, and that it was really supposed to be "a summoned Assassin Servant is most likely to be from the Hashishin".  But, um, that's just me.

RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURU BUREIKAA!
Well, Medea did make up for that by being the weakest Servant in the Fifth War, even if she did have an EX rank Noble Phantasm.  An EX rank Noble Phantasm she couldn't actually use, but still.

...Alright, after thinking it over, if Arcueid as Berserker isn't allowed then I'll go with Nursery Rhyme, (http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Caster_%28Fate/Extra%29) because I think she'd be pretty fun to play as.

And clearly classification is no problem, given Karna:

I bet Amra is going to have a lot of fun GM'ing for like 14+ people. :derp:

WAITWAITWAIT.

Anyways, here's how it works. Servants and Masters are randomly paired off, then they choose their characters. Only Apocrypha or Extra servants are allowed; in Extra Caster's case and Extra Saber, we can deliberate stats. Arcuied is unavailable.
Extra Caster
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

*Dormio considers changing preference to Extra Caster.*

Oh, somebody already took Nursery Rhyme as the Caster type. Oh well. Guess I'll be sticking to Master then.

Also, since I assume it will be popular, calling the "completely unaware of how human interaction works" archetype as a Master. :V
Or Extra Caster if I can somehow get her. :V

So yeah, Fate/Apocrypha.
http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Fate/Apocrypha_characters
A canceled MMO based on the Holy Grail War. But canceled? I think not.

We could possibly get something really cool going, if we have 14 sign ups. 7 Masters and 7 Servants, randomly distributed. The masters then make their own characters, and the servants get to choose from that list or make their own, with guidelines on both cases.

I found a historical figure that I could potentially convert into a Lancer role. I kinda want to be a Lancer, but I don't particually like any of the ones on that list.

Name: Honda Tadakatsu
Class: Rider [Also Qualifys for Lancer]

Appearance:
Honda is summoned much younger than when he died, around his early 30's, so he is in peak physical condition. [Yet he retains all his experiance he gained later in life]. He is a rather imposing man, looking strong, but lithe at the same time. He has a brown, braided beard on his chin, and wears Japanese armor from his era, in a bright, crimson colour.

A rough image of his appearance. He's kinda been dead since the 1600's. The deer horns are hidden by their latent lagic, unless they are in use, for this could give away his identity, as a Noble Phantasm.

Legend:

A feared general in Japan, undefeated on the battlefeild, Honda was known as one of the 'Four Heavenly Kings, and his skill was such to draw praise from even Oda Nobunaga, who very rarely spoke well of anyone. Honda had fought in over 100 battles, and legend has it that he was never once wounded in a battle.  He is also said to have worn deer horns, so to be recognisable upon his horse, to both freind and foe. However, possibly the most fearsome part of his legend was his spear, Tonbo-Giri, his weapon of choice, so sharp that a Dragonfly that landed on it was cut in two, and it became known as one of Japan's Three Great Spears.

He was also known for his mount, a Horse named Mikuniniguro, and his skills in combat on the horse, as well as on foot. The Horse is also a verteran of many battles.

Personailty:
Honda is calculateing and merciless in battle, and has a brilliant strategic mind, being a general. Despite this, he is somewhat jovial outside of combat, seeing it as a chance to relax. As a Japanese Samurai, he is also fericely loyal to his superiors, and, as part of his code of honor, he is sworn to die for them without question, even if not told to do so. While he considers it a lesser offense than disobeying his master, he is heavily against involving innocents, and wants as little blood-shed as possible. In cases where his Master's orders would conflict with his code, depending on the severity of the breach, a Command Spell may be required. An example of such a situation would be ordering Honda to kill innocents to replenish his prana.

Stats:
Str: B
Mag: E
Luk: C
End: B
Agi: B

Class Skills:
Magic Resistance: E
Riding: A
Independant Action: C

Skills:

Charisma: B
Bravery: A
Military Tactics: A
Protection from Arrows: C [Developed from battlefeild experiance]

Noble Phantasms:

Name: The Unscratched Armor of 100 Victories
Type: Barrier
Rank: B
Owner: Honda Tadakatsu

Description: The traditional Crimson armor that has allowed Honda 100 victories on the battlefeild without so much of a scratch upon him. Due to this legend, the armor was lifted to the state of a Noble Phantasm. While it may nor may not in actuality been any stronger than regular armor, this Noble Phantasm is an exceptionally resiliant defense, being nigh-unbreakable to all but the most powerful of attacks. However, it has an innate weakness to magic, being unable to defend against it at all, and has no offensive potential either. Blunt attacks are also another weakness, as the armor does little against the impact. Thrusting attacks are only effective on the joints of the armor, unless they have tremendous force behind them, and slashing attacks are almost futile, unless made by a Noble Phantasm of at least A rank, or they are able to hit a weak point in the armor.

The armor, as a last resort, can have sections of it used as broken phantasms [The sections being the armor covering each limb, the helm, and the main torso armor]. If this is done, they can only protect the part of the body they cover, but will defend against any attack on that part of the body, shattering afterwards. As such, Honda's face is always vunerable.

Sword Defense is to the degree at it would require Rank A to deal noticeable damage to the armor, although it would take repeated hits to slash through.
Pericing is ~ Rank B, mainly because all the force is behind a single point when using a Pericing attack, and thus, it's easier to break through the armor that way compared to slashing.
Blunt Attacks are Rank C, as the armor only softens the impact.
And no defense is provided against Magic, except for what would reasonably be expected by armor.

The joints in the armor are less protected, and are weak points. For example, if Honda was slashed across his left elbow, he could lose his forearm [Although it would require a thin blade to actually fit in the gap].

Name: Deer Antlers of Identification
Type: Anti-Thaumaturgy
Rank: B

Description: The antlers were a sign of moral to Honda's allies, and challenge to his foes. A symbol of his leadership, and, long with him, have been drawn into myth. As a symbol of his leadership, and identification, the Antlers are often hidden. However, if Honda is effected by some form of binding, mind-effecting or illusionary spell, the horns will appear, and break any spell below Rank B of these types. This power stems from Honda's determination and clarity on the battlefeild, shown best when he faced odds of 60 men to 1, and convinced the opposing army to leave them be, out of respect for his courage and determination.

Name: Tonbo-Giri
Type: Anti Unit/Anti Army
Rank: A

Description: One of the three Great Spears of Japan, Tonbo-Giri's head always looks sharp. A golden tassle hangs from it's hilt, distinguishing it from the generic spear Honda uses when he wishes to keep his identity secret.

Tonbo-Giri is unique as a Spear, in that it is equally adept at both cutting and thrusting attacks, due to it's supremely sharp edges, making it a melee weapon with few equals, especially when weilded by a master of it like Honda.

In addittion to it's sheer abilty as a weapon, Honda can utilise his prana, as well as the sharp, aerodynamic shape of the spearhead, to unleash the 'Dragonfly Cutter', a wave of cutting wind, as a projectile attack, the arc of which is as large as the spear's swing, consumeing more prana as the larger arc is made. The wave has the same cutting ability as the spear, easily able to level several surrounding trees, and can be used several times without any signs of fatigue. He can also spin the spear around, over his head, to surround himself in such cutting winds, as a defense, although keeping this up takes significantly more prana than the projectile version.

Name: Mikuniniguro
Rank: B
Type: Anti-Unit

Description: A fine specimine of a steed, Mikuniniguro is a brown horse, with nothing special about it appearance-wise, except always being saddled ready for Honda. It obeys his every command, and is fearless. It can be summoned as Honda wishes, and, in terms of resiliance, is similar to most servants. Which translates as very resiliant. Mikuniniguro is fast, and is more than willing to kick or ram foes of his master.

Other Equipment:

A Sword and Generic Lance which he can use for combat without revealing identity
---

If this isn't acceptable, let me know.

Hey Allo?
If you can get Tadakatsu, I'm calling dibs on you.
What better Servant to have at my command than the legendary Tadakatsu Honda?
Heck, he's one of my favorite Living Legends of Japan's History, right up there with Oda Nobunaga, and Takeda Shingen.
He was said to be pretty compassionate from what I've read. And the popular depiction of him in Japan portrays him as a Gentle Giant.
When he's not being a Boisterous Bruiser that is.

Well, the OP says you can make your own, and the Rider class is for those known to have ridden mounts. Honda is known for riding a horse on the battlefeild. It never says they are FAMOUS for the mount. Rider/Medusa is famous for... being the Gorgon. St George is a Rider, despite being known for killing a dragon, not riding a horse [In fact, his Steed NP is similar to Honda's except it can bestow tempoary invunrabilty, in exchange for no mention of fearlessness, ect]

Still, it's up to the discresion of the OP. If it's not suitable, it's not suitable, and I'll find something else.

wait as masters dont we have some magician background i mean if we were generic people chances are we'd get obliterated with 0% defense like meat, and have very little chance of obtaining a servant taking into accounts if no catalyst was used we'd pretty much get random ass servants but i digress
and questioning the assassin rule hassan was clearly an anti-hero and according to the original laws of the grail anti-heroes like caster(fsn) and rider (fsn) could not have been summoned until the grail had been tainted by a previous war brings me to question who the *bleep* were the assassins in the 1st 2nd and 3rd cycles

*sunglasses.*

Moerin, gonna have to shutdown both Arcuied and Nursery Rhyme. Nursery Rhyme is a figment of a little girl's imagination made by the alternate Grail; not really valid for an actual war. You keep Servant slot though. I want to give you Nursery Rhyme, but it's just like...she's not even a hero. Or a historical figure. The biggest stretch I could give you is summoning the manifestation of Alice in Wonderland, but that's like...summoning a book. Not even a personified legend like Fate!Assassin, but a book. Sorry. I'll reserve Frankenstein's Monster for now, though.

Fightest, you get in.

Okay. Here's how I see the game going.

1) We decide who's who. Masters are made, Servants are determined.
2) I JOHN FUCKING MADDEN and come up with a setting out of my ass.
3) The master's and servants pair off themselves and PM me the messages giving me background info, summoning ritual, location in town.

I will PREFER servants from Extra or Apocrypha. Dormio's going to have to deliberate with stats on Tamano no Mae. Honda is fine. Masters are under generic guidelines; at the very most, you can be as powerful as Rin. Without Kaleidoscope fuckery. How you are as powerful as Rin, I don't really mind. You can specialize in any magecraft, but no. Fucking. Magic.

Mystic Eyes I'm kinda okay with. You'll have to discuss.
Reality Marbles, unless it's gimped (and thus you have to be awesome to use it) are a no no. Even if it falls under the exception, no. In general.
Mystic Codes are fine. (I'd be confused if you didn't have one)
Family Crests are also fine.
JUST COME UP WITH A GOOD CHARACTER.

Ah ok. That looks fine.  Also can everyone make up a master out of their ass (as I would do) or does it have to be someone from the series?

Yeah, make it out of your ass. You can use established families in nasuverse, however.

I was figuring they'd be customs.

I already had an idea for a guy that only has 5 magic circuits, and specializes in a self-developed variant of Gandr Shot called Gandr Snipe(Sorta like the Fin Shot, but only works with Hunter's Mark.), as well as tracking spell called Hunter's Mark, which works to improve/enable Gandr Snipe by increasing the casting range/enabling it to be cast.
See, there's 4 circuits in one of his arms, and another one in the corresponding eye.

Of course, that's about all he can do, because he never had formal training, much like a certain other Magic-user...

But hey, when all you have is a hammer, eh?

Tamano no Mae: Legendary ninetailed fox of japanese lore. Master of witchcraft, shapeshifting, and elemental magic. Her desire in this war is to be a good wife. Absurdly powerful magic, but physically fragile.
 Str: D
  Mag: A+
   Luk: C
    End: E
      Agi: C
Witchcraft: EX (Occult techniques related to gaining favor or gaining control. Sealed away due to Caster's dislike)
Shapeshifting: A (Shapeshifting abilities derived from kitsune art; much like Witchcraft, Caster shies away from it due to past trauma.)
Territory Creation: C (The class ability of caster's, which allows creation of a 'workshop'. Due to Caster's personality, she is unsuited for such pursuits.)

Jack the Ripper: Infamous Assassin of british history, known for slaying 6 or possibly more prostitutes in a vicious manner. A perpetual fog follows her, and during the night she truly becomes a beast...truly the ultimate assassin, capable of pulling off near perfect attacks.
Str: C
 Mag: C
  Luk: E
   End: C
     Agi: A
Presence Concealment: A+ (Class skill of Assassins which allows stealthy action. Vastly deteriorates during violent action, but her Noble Phantasm rectifies this and allows perfect sneak attacks)
Mental Pollution: C (Mild chances that mental interference will be negated. In the case the master acts negatively towards Assassin, Mental Pollution rises. It's impossible to come to an understanding with Assassin unless a similar level of Mental Pollution is obtained.)
Murderer of the Misty Night: A+ (Concerning the special trait of a murderer instead of an assassin, her as the assailant will always obtain the initiative over the opponent as the victim. However, unconditionally obtaining the initiative happens only at night. During daytime, a Luck Check is necessary.)

Honda Tadakatsu: One of the fearful 4 Generals, praised by Oda Nobunaga himself. Wrapped in a powerful armor and wielding all manner of weapons, he is a force to be reckoned with.
Str: C+
 Mag: E
  Luk: D
   End: B+
     Agi: B
Magic Resistance: E (Had none in life, but features a small amount as a Rider. Renders him slightly more resistant to battle magecraft)
Riding: A (All creatures but those of Phantasmal Beast and Divine Beast-rank can be used as mounts.)
Independent Action: C (Capable of remaining solid for one day without a contract)
Charisma: B (Ability to lead and rouse troops. At this level, Rider can clearly lead an army.)
Bravery: A (Increases melee damage and renders Rider immune to fear)
Military Tactics: A (Ability to determine the best tactics for a combat situation. At this level, Rider can pull victories out of the bowels of defeat with startling ease. Impossible situations are beyond even him, however.)

Vlad the Third: The Impaler himself, and possible vampire. His spear brings fear into the heart of his enemies, and within his domain he is all but unstoppable. Lurking beneath the human flesh lies a truly horrid nightmare.
Str: C
 Mag: A
  Luk: D
   End: C
     Agi: B
Demonic Commander of Country Defence: N/A (Unique skill to Lancer. By securing a leyline beforehand, a specific range is made into "one's own dominion". In battles inside this dominion, as its feudal lord, Vlad III can acquire a high bonus of battle power. Certain abilities are only available here.)

EMIYA: A mysterious hero from the future. Wields all manner of weapons, each from vastly different legends. Just who is he, and what is his motive? Within his mind's eye lies the path to victory.
Str: D
 Mag: B
  Luk: E
   End: C
     Agi: C
Independant Action: B (Capable of remaining in this world for two days without a established contract. Also capable to live on for a short period of time after suffering extensive damage on his spiritual core. )
Magic Resistance: D (Cancel Single-Action spells. Magic Resistance of the same degree of an amulet that rejects magical energy. )
Clairvoyance: C (Superior Visual perception. Supplements long range combat. At this rank, Archer is capable of keeping track of fast-moving object within a range of 4kms.)
Eye of the Mind (True): B (Capable of calm analysis of battle conditions even when in danger and deduce an appropriate course of action after considering all possibilities to escape from a predicament. So long there is even a 1% chance of a comeback, this ability greatly improves the chances of winning.)
Magecraft: C- ( Capable of using orthodox Thaumaturgy)

Frankenstein's Monster: The modern Prometheus herself. A fleshwork automaton of savage strength and unrelenting lightning. The longer she fights, it seems, the stronger she gets.
Str: C
 Mag: D
  Luk: B
   End: B
     Agi: D
Lamentation of an Empty Living Thing: N/A (A high-pitched scream that never seems to be exhausted and that is raised when under Mad Enhancement. Robs one's ability to think regardless of being friend or foe, those without resistance will become panic-stricken and incapable of breathing.)
Galvanism: N/A (Unrestricted conversion and accumulation of biological electric current and prana. Attacks without substance like magic light, magic winds and magic bullets are instantaneously transformed into electricity and negated by being discharged in the environment. Also, the body is strengthened in proportion to the amount of electricity stored and damage repair is carried faster as well.)
Mad Enhancement: A (Personal skill of Berserkers. At the cost of sanity, drastically raises physical abilities. Due to her nature as 'fake', maintaining the activation of Mad Enhancement is lowered and electricity may be used as a substitute for prana.)

Joan of Arc
Str: B
 Mag: A
  Luk: C
   End: B
     Agi: A
Magic Resistance: EX (At this level of magic resistance, almost nothing can hurt Joan directly. However, attacks that affect the surroundings may still affect her; super heating the floor with a wide area fire spell would still melt the floor, and thus affect Saber)
Revelation: N/A (A Skill equivalent to "Instinct". Instinct is a sixth sense regarding battles, but "Revelation" accommodates all matters related to the achievement of a goal (for instance, choosing the most suitable path while traveling))
Charisma: N/A (Innately linked to her Revelation skill. With it, she can lead armies and unite troops with ease. It's power is such that she can make others easily believe in her 'revelations'.)
Saint: N/A (Status of being acknowledged as a Saint. When summoned, the choice of "raising the effectiveness of sacraments", "automatic HP recovery", "1 Rank-Up to Charisma" and "production of a holy shroud is possible" as abilities is given to the Master.)

Huh.  Interesting coincidence.  I look forward to seeing how that turns out, ahah~

Also, I think the OP should have a quick rundown of all the Servants and what their stats are, as well as special abilities(Such as Magic Resistance).
That would probably be a good idea, actually, so that we have all the info in one place and don't have to run about all over the Type-Moon wiki to find it.

...Also, I'm wondering if I should make a list of what weapons Archer's traced with Unlimited Blade Works.  Mostly so that no-one calls me out on shenanigans and deus ex machina if I pull out some hitherto unmentioned NP, ahah~  I mean, obviously he's not going to have anything silly like Ea or Excalibur (the former is impossible for him to trace anyways), but... Yeah.

Heh, quite the crew we have, don't we~?  Ah, this should be fun, eheh~

Mm. Gonna have to remove protection from arrows from Honda. Doesn't really fit with the character; he'd avoid arrows, not defend himself from them. Japanese military tactics were weird like that.

Rather, it's not some super natural ability that lets him evade arrows. Arrow Evasion implies he'd be pulling an Agent Smith; Honda seems more like he'd be an expert at finding cover, which I'll include as part of Military Tactics.

It's really only technicalities, but Protection and Evasion don't really fit.

I was sleeping, so sorry for the delay:

Stats:
Str: C+
Mag: E
Luk: D
End: B+
Agi: B

He's not superhuman in any regard, but he is in excellent physical form. Completely inept at Magic besides summoning and utiliseing his Phantasms. [Of which are mainly summoning his Steed... and putting some Prana into a spear. The horns hide themselves as part of their own ability.]

Also, I'm kinda stunned no-one's taken Saber yet [and if they have, the OP hasn't been updated]. Don't those tend to be seen as the best-all-round Servants? [Although, I guess they are all kinda... the same]

As for Arrow Defense/Evasion, eh, I thought it would be feasable seeing his 100 battles unscathed legend. I mean, I'm sure he faced a fair few archers. Still, having it translate into part of Tactics works too.

I can do nothing against both Berserker and Saber. This'll be interesting.

Honda can do nothing against Caster, with his Magic Resistance of Rank E, and Magic skill of Rank E. Unless you try to fiddle with his mind, but that's where the horns kick in. His armor provides no defense against magic... or, at least, no more than a suit of armor would defend against a fireball/whatever in reality.

Although, I think he stands a chance against most of the others, in particular, being immune to fear, and his Noble Phantasm makes him practically the bane of Berzerker.... or it's best possible ally. His armor being VERY resistant to swords also makes him a good Saber counter, although far from it being a given.

Wait, Mag: A, cool stuff

> Magic Resistance EX

It's weaker against pericing attacks than slashing, but still strong, unless the attack is at a joint in the armor. Hence why I mentioned it being far from a given. Swords are more suited to slashing then thrusting, however, and spears have superior range in most regards, especially from upon Horseback.

For example, if Honda was slashed across his left elbow, he could lose his forearm [Although it would require a thin blade to actually fit in the gap].

next war we should consider aspiring servants roll the class they want in a bloody dice based battle for what they want, conceptualize what heroic spirit and NPs they want pass em to the storyteller and masters just picking a class they want not knowing what kinda crappy servant or awesome servant they got while the storyteller knows full well of everything, noted in this only masters know their skills, servants know their nps and skills and its up to either party to introduce themselves and or their abilities.

basically
1. signups
2. division of S&Ms (pun intended)
3. S dice rolls for classes if there are disputes
4. making stuff up on the fly to go to war with
5. pairing people up
6. carnage
7. profit

well convoluted idea but it might work

Um... If you're saying that next time round (if there is a next time), Servant classes should be randomly allocated via PM from the GM, and those playing a Servant should PM back with what hero they'd wish to play, thus keeping who everyone is a secret and cutting down possible metagaming, then, um, I guess I agree with you.

Of course, that's if there's a second war, which is yet to be seen.  But still, it's always good to keep these things in mind.

Agreed as well. Still, as it stands now, it's quite interesting, as there are quite a few hard-counters running around that need to be plotted around.

Post by: Amraphenson on November 09, 2011, 09:39:36 PM
AAs it stands now, it's really the best possible situation. People started metagaming as soon as I revealed what the pool of available heroes was; it doesn't help that people picked the heroes that stood out the most and or were the best known.

This is mostly just a trial run anyway, a test if you will.

Anyways, all pairs are determined. Master Servant pairs should start figuring out their battle plans for the war. Try to keep it general and meta free guys.

For further reference, if I send an in-character message to the Masters, it's common courtesy to share with your servants.
Especially if the events of the message mention the Servant as actually present.  :V

New rules to the Sector Capture:
1) Servants of B class AGI or above may move up to two sectors from their current position. Servants of lower class can only move one.
2) Masters can only ever move one sector, unless the Servant assists in movement. The Servant, of course, has to be capable of more than 1 sector travel himself.
3) Familiars can be sent for scouting, be it the Master's or Servant's. Speed of familiars has to be deliberated with me. In general, 1 sector=Normal skill with Familiars, 2 sectors=highly skilled if not the main focus of their study, and 3 sectors=the sole ability available to the Master or Servant, honed after several years if not decades. Specific cases and exceptions may exist. Even higher level familiars can only scout one area, though; the areas they travel over to reach their target are not scouted.

Clarifications:
1) If you as a player know it, it does not mean you as a character know it. Player 1 may very well know the identity of Master 2 and Servant 2 due to IRC leaks, but that has no effect on Master 1.
2) If, during actions, you create some plan that would only work with knowledge of something you know but your character does not, I'll let you redo the action. It's mostly going to be unintentional anyway.
3) Going to the Type Moon wikia to learn more on Nasuverse will be extremely useful, especially for Masters who are working out their profiles and magic skill. Things like Thaumaturgical Crests, Origin, and Circuits are very specific to Nasuverse.
4) Watching Carnival Phantasm is a good way to see how the various portions of Nasuverse interact with each other. Watch it.
5) I may start this a bit early, since I'm running out of stuff to prep. My only concern is how we're going to RP out fights and interactions. If anyone has a good method, feel free to mention it. I'm considering anonymous IRC (if that's possible) or some kind of text client.

Oh, for masters: I missed a thing to your profiles. If the Master is from a prolific clan of Magus', then they may or may not have a Sorcery Trait, which is a unique quality that is related to magecraft unique to the clan. The Einzberns, for example, had 'Wish Making', or the ability to use spells without knowledge of the spell itself, in essence using just pure prana conversion. The quality that allows Bazette's family to recreate and use Fragarach is also a Sorcery Trait.

Just something to be aware of.

I think we'd have to rule Gilgamesh out for balance's sake. About the only one who can defeat him is EMIYA... and EMIYA's also Archer-class.

Anyway, I have my battleplans ready. I just hope everything goes according to plan.
Title: Re: Fate/Kaleido (Seven Days Remaining)(Master Profiles needed!)
Post by: Fightest on November 12, 2011, 10:22:17 PM
That's actually a good point the folks above have been raising - the second round would have to have custom-built Servants provided by the GM. The problem with established Nasuverse protagonists (Shirou and, by connection, EMIYA) is that they are designed to take advantage of their bullshit super-specialised power at just the right moment, and are useless otherwise. Conversely, antagonists are supposed to be entirely bullshit except when countered by this super-specialized power. It makes for tense situations and good reading, but poor game balance.

It pulses. Like the beat of a mad, dying beast. Once, then twice. The leylines, woven into the town like veins and arteries of that same beast, throb with the corrupted flow of prana. Seven noble spirits rise from the cold ground to meet their masters, to fight against each other, to rip each others throats, to suffer and struggle and claw their way to the top and win.

The war has begun! I will need all orders by the end of the weekend! Masters and Servants, stay in contact! PMs detailing conflicts will be sent on Monday.

AFAIK, all PMs have been sent. Master and Servant duos were sent one PM to be shared. Individual PMs sent are not to be shared until next round, and only if servant returns to the Master with the info they've obtained.

Enjoy.

"Has it begun?" the voice rasps, ragged and tired. Though he is disabled to the point he can barely even leave his chair, he stirs as if wanting to move. To act.

"Yes, now stay still," she chastises, gently pushing him back into the seat.

A grumble is her response, "Damned kids...they don't know what they're getting into..." He hacks and coughs for a moment. "...Varia...," he starts, then trails off, not able to find the words.

Still, she answers, for she knows what this old soul wants. "I know. I won't mess up."

----
"Master?"

"I know. Help me out with this. A war can't be fought without a base to fight it from."

"Very well, Master."
----
"Comeon Master~"

"Ah, wait up please!"

"I want to see more of the town, Master~!"
----
"Has it been set up?"

"Yes, mi'lord."

"Good."
----
"I do hope my liege is doing alright..."
----
"Dammit, to think they'd all be focusing here of all places!"

He ran, hopefully to regroup with his Servant later. The urban sector was just too much of a hotbed now.
----
A tiny figure watches from the sidelines.

----
"Seiyah!"

"..."

A nameless spear darts forward, but is hastily drawn back as a massive, lightning bound cudgel swings in a brutal arc. The armored warrior deftly opens up space, but as he does so his foe clears the distance in a second and tears open the ground with an overhand swing, barely dodged by him.

Lightning blazes through the plaza, arcing out and lashing against the terrain. Statues and fountains alike are sundered apart by the wild electricity. In contrast, its source stares forward blankly, always watching the spearman in front of her.

The armored warrior tilts his head slightly, letting an errant bolt sail harmlessly past his cheek. Already, the air reaks of ozone.

"Servant! We're leaving!"

Barely dodging the fire and ice that sprouts up where he once was, the armored warrior nods solemnly. His foe leaps in, her massive orb-like hammer raised for the kill, but he merely steps in, discards his spear, and slashes once with his sword.

Flesh parts as he leaps away, Master in tow. The combatant looks dispassionately at the wound, which bleeds no blood. Behind her, the Master which wields fire and ice at his finger tips looks on curiously.

----

Combat has occurred in Sector 2.
Places were scouted.
Places were prepared.

Indeed, you have a point, only the characters there at the time would know what actually happened. IC and player knowledge are two different things.

I'm just remarking, out of character, that the description of the attack Berserker made sounds an awful lot like the mentioned Noble Phantasm.

In addittion, I noticed that this is marked as Phase 3 [Results]. Isn't Phase 3 the phase where things are RP'ed out, and Phase 4 the results phase?

I think that Phase 3 means more of a Round 3, where phase 1 was Character Generation, phase 2 was setup, phase 3 was this whole thing (that included actions, reactions and results). But I could be wrong.

Nah, doesn't look like Blasted Tree to me, that's a self-sacrificial move.
So what was used was likely just Bridal Chest's Second State.

Bridal Chest - First State: Normal Giant Mace.
Bridal Chest - Second State: First State, but with extra zappity zap-zap.
Bridal Chest - Final State: Blasted Tree.

Okay, since it's popped up a lot, I'll be using quicktopics for inter-team negotiation purposes. I'll open up 2 or 3 and pm you guys the links and passwords to them.
From now on, if you decide to send a negotiation request, please also include an action to do that round as well. If the negotiation request is successful, the teams involved will have access to the quicktopic for the next round. Otherwise, the game continues as usual.
I'll try to post the round 2 results today.
For people who sent negotiation requests this round, I apologize. I'll give you guys a free scouting of a random surrounding area if you didn't tell me some alternate options.
Sorry for the delay guys.

This is pretty much going to be a one round a week thing.

Need a Master who pays attention to you? A Master who is eager to work with you and allow you to use your abilities to the fullest? The Master voted "most handsome Master in the Grail War"? Then you are in luck! Just sign right here on the dotted line!

I am not too proud to admit that House is more handsome than I, but House, mercifully, is not a Master in this Grail War, and, thus, your point is moot. I'll have those Command Seals now.

That wasn't entirely necessary, Anathe. Anyways, this is probably gonna be weekly. Updated on Fridays, prob.

----
Screams fill the gaping room. Then grunts and pants of exhaustion, then agony, then hate.

"Damn you Varia!" he spits. "How long...how long until you're satisfied with this game?"

"Never. On two accounts. I'll never be satisfied. And this was never a game."

He rasps out a curse, then collapses yet again within his confinement.

"Now then, let's continue. Just as the Grail War does."

----
"You have been invited..."
----
"...for negotiations."
----
"Further fortifications are complete, my liege."

"Excellent. I'd like to see anyone topple THIS," he bellows, arms spread as he overlooks his realm.
----
"Master~ There's still no one here~"

"Damned luck."
----
"Master, I've returned."

"Good, I barely got out of there alive. Let's set up here instead then; the old place is a bust."
----
"Hmmm hmmm~ Wonder what my Servant is up to."
----
"What a troublesome Master, to leave me with such...duty." He says the last word with some measure of irony.
----
"This explains the lay out of this place, then..."
----

Round 2 has ended.

----
Round 2 will now enter phase 4. This gives the master/servants time to decide whether or not to accept the various requests sent to them. Once confirmation has been sent from those involved, round 3 will begin.

The new guy either takes Anathe's character and continues, or more likely makes a new one entirely and takes over. It's his choice whether it's a fatal takeover or just a retcon; Anathe hasn't done anything that makes him distinct yet.

"So here we are. Three of us, then? We're rather vulnerable out here."

"Does it matter, really? We should get this started. 's getting boring."

"I admire your spirit, but don't get ahead of yourself, boy."

"Whatever's cool with you, pops. I'm just here to negotiate."

"Please, gentlemen, settle down. We won't get anything settled here if we just argue amongst ourselves."

"...to be honest, that's the only way I see this going down." A shrug. "RIght then. What do you all want out of this?"

"A ceasefire, if at possible. We ally ourselves, dispose of the rest of the masters and servants, then duel each other in honorable combat for the Grail."

"I...well, that seems acceptable. My intentions are along the same line."

"Heh, you guys thought this further ahead than me. All I want out of this is to knock out Berserker."

Eyes narrow at each other. Tension rises.

"It seems we're at an impasse."

"Indeed, madam."

"Well, fuck."

The air thickens with the threat of violence.

"See, I'm not quite willing to accept an alliance with a Master who's out to take out my Servant first."

"I'm not quite willing to make an alliance with the Servant and Master who wounded my Servant."

"You know what? I'm not quite willing to listen to this anymore. Looks like we're all out for different things, so lets just walk our seperate ways, alright? No bloodshed involved, no deaths...just go on as if nothing happened."

Chaos erupts. A massive explosion rocks the bridge, sending debris into the water below. The fireball lights up the night sky like a sun. All three attempt to maintain their footing, to varying degrees of success.

A snarl. "How dishonorable! You'll pay for your trickery, the both of you!"

"I didn't do a damn thing!"

"Nor I!"

"Enough talk! This 'negotiation' ends now! Berserker!"

"Aw fuck, Assassin!"

"Rider!"

Daggers, cudgel, spear. All flash through the air like bolts of lightning. Fire rips into existance, as does ice. Pitch black bullets, shadows amongst shadows, streak through the air like rabid hornets.

Twin daggers barely miss a vulnerable back. The spear grazes past an extended arm. The lightning wreathed cudgel slams into empty air and fragile concrete over and over. None can land a hit.

Then again. The explosions recurr, further shaking the already weakened bridge.

"Master, they're coming from the island!"

"What? What fool would dare attack us?"

"Better pay attention, pops!"

Prana bullets explode forward in a spread pattern. The wizened magus clicks his tongue in annoyance and barely dodges the lot, almost as if by luck. Then the daggers fall like a guillotine upon him, but at the last moment he's saved.

"Please be more careful, Master."

"Damned Assassin..."

"Elliminating."

Once more, the electricity bound cudgel crashes into nothing. Her speed works against her. But so do many things, for all the combatants involved. None can get leeway in the fight.

The young man and the small girl hang near the edge of the bridge. The woman and hammer wielding maiden linger at one side, while the magus and spearman stand ready at the other.

"This is going nowhere...," the youngest of them mutters.

"That is soon to cha-"

Then one last time. This one is...stronger. More volatile. The biggest artillery round yet collides with the bridge and finally sunders it.

"Goddammit!" he screams, just as he's thrown into the water by the explosion.

"Rider, retreat!"

"Of course."

"We're getting out of here, Berserker."

"..."

----
"Damned children...no sense of honor."

'Master. We have company. Bad company.' The voice is tense, worried. Scared, even.

"What...?"

"Oh my, now lookie here."

"Seems like we've finally found someone, goshujin-sama~"

----
"No choice but to retreat to the island...Berserker, let's find out who was so kind as to interrupt our little parley, shall we?"

"..."
----
The young man would've sworn, but he was too busy trying to surface from the cold, black water.
----
"Seems like something was happening on the bridge, Master."

The surrounding panic from the populace was testament to that. "Let's focus here, Saber."

"Yes."
----
"Still nothing around...?"
----
"Master puts me on the most demeaning tasks..."
----
"And so my territory expands."
----
"Phew. Done with here. I'd like to see anyone get out of here alive."

----

Areas scouted. First open contact in the Grail War achieved. The 2-12 bridge has been broken; travel between the two is now impossible. A third party has joined the war.

"My liege, the expansion goes as expected, but...something is off."

"I sense it too, Servant. Keep on your guard. Nothing will topple us here. I won't allow it."
----
"...really? Again?"

"How...interesting."

"Dear me."

Yet again three masters and three servants face off. A middle aged gentleman, a young man, and an elegant young woman.

'Master...I doubt we'll be able to handle yet another scuffle like this.'

"I know, Rider," the eldest of the three Masters mutters.

"What was that, good sir?" wonders the woman, seemingly at the edge of her patience. "I've been waiting this entire war for some interaction. It's not fair to keep things to yourself with us right in front of you, after all."

"As the lady says, sir. Now, would you happen to be the cause of the ruckus over on the bridge there, or would that be someone else?" continues the younger male. The armored woman behind him, entirely ready for combat, merely continues her silent vigil.

"I'm afraid I just exited a rather misfortunate example of a negotation, my fellow Masters. Now, are we to fight from the start, or is this going to be another example of that? Or perhaps we can muster something similar to civility and nobility amongst this farce of a 'just' Grail War?"

"Hmm...," hums the young woman. "I don't know, what do you think, Servant?" she asks the fox eared lady behind her.

"Well,
goshujin-sama, I'm not adverse to fighting nor negotiation."

The armored woman nods at her proclamation. "Nor am I. If there is some side to this war that is unscrupulous enough to resort to such tactics," she begins, glancing at the still burning bridge. "...then I would be more than happy to side with those more honorable than them to rid the pests from the face of this land."

"Hah, so there are some honorable people left in this world. Very well. I propose this, oh fellow Masters and Servants..."

----
"Damn, don't know what that was about..." the young man mutters, rapping on the door to the 'safe zone' of the war. "Soakin' wet, hungry, and someone's out to blow us all to kingdom come...'scuse me! 's anyone here?"

"My my, do be patient. I'll be right there," comes a distant voice. The
shoji door slides open. Standing there is a blonde woman, eyepatch over one eye, in the outfit traditional to miko. "Oh my. You must be seeking sanctuary. Please come in."
----
"That artillery barrage came from...somewhere on the other side of the island, Master."

"Interesting. Who would be so foolish as to intervene in the matters of the Grail War?"
----
"How long should we wait, Master?"

"With all the chaos...as long as we need to."

----
Round 4 end.

EDIT: GJ Dormio for recognizing the joke.

oh and we all get this shit done, I'ma compile it into a compressed version without our banter inbetween. (note to self: get a fucking discussion thread next time)

To argue the opposite point, a singular thread makes for easier timestamping on the banter. Keeps it real, yo. But whatever, that's a preference thing.

Oh, I'll keep this thread. But I'll have two seperate ones for people who just want the banter or just want the action. I'll probably release all the private logs that I have access to afterwards too.

If I had realized that the entire round had nothing happening anyway because some people are playing tower defense, then I would've tried to do this even with the damn food poisoning. :V
Everyone was successful in their actions, no pms.

----
"Please, come in. Make yourself at home, good Master. Shelter will gladly be provided if needed. Should the good Master require anything else, please do not hesitate to call this one."

It was hard to talk to someone like that, who was so obviously subservient and submissive that any conversation would probably be one sided.

The young man shrugged and figured going to sleep was the best idea. Lots to do tomorrow.
----
"Ah, welcome good Master? How may this one help?"

She blinks at the sight of the shrine maiden, odd as she is with her blond hair and green eyes. "May I speak to the grail organizer?"

The shrine maiden's gaze lowers. "Ah, this one is most sorry. The honorable Grail Organizer is currently asleep. This one would be willing to wake him up, but...?"

She holds up a hand and shakes her head. "No, that's not necessary. If possible I'd like to stay here the night. Along with that, do you have any clue as to the cause of the bridge's destruction?"

The younger woman hmms thoughtfully. "This one heard fireworks earlier to the east; that may have hidden something, this one thinks. In any case, would you like to come in...?"

"Yes, thank you..."

'He?'

----
"Still nothing, Master."

"Is everyone on the goddamn other side of the city or what?"

----
"We're getting closer to something very powerful, Master."

"As much as I loave to agree, I sense it too, goshujin-sama."

"Let's keep our guard up then."

"Let's."

"Though...I do sense a powerful presence near those...factories?...yes, the factories."

"Ho? So the brute is useful for something after all."

"Stay your mouth, temptress."

"Enough! Let's go investigate."
----
"So...nothing?"

"Nothing at all, mi'lord."

"Well this is turning into a snipe hunt."

"I do...believe I sense something in the industrial sector, though."

"Ho? Get in contact with our allies then. Let us investigate."
----
"I am not finding this situation entertaining, my liege. At least allow me to reach out and conquer myself! You were well protected here."

"Patience, Servant..."
----
She stares at him. "So it's done?"

"...yeah. As much as it will ever be."

"...good. Think you can do it, then?"

"We'll have to see."

"You'll have my help, then."

"I'd better damn well have your help."

----
What stirs on the horizon...? What lies beyond the looking glass?

Round 5 over.

..She's just how I imagined her.
The thing says chaotic evil, but with the right master(Such as Reika.), she's more chaotic neutral.
Afterall, nothing says chaotic neutral like offing someone who tried to kill you, then looping a 180 to kill a bunch of crooks that masquerade as good guys.
...Or something.
Title: Re: Fate/Kaleido-Round 6, Phase 1 (Orders)
Post by: Bardiche on January 29, 2012, 07:52:52 PM
Actually, Chaotic Evil kills for the sake of killing, and because they want to primarily: not because they desire to. If Jack kills whoever Reika tells her to, then Jack is Lawful Neutral more than Chaotic Evil: soldiers who unquestioningly follow orders are Lawful Neutral, after all. Jack listening to Reika at least defies the "Chaotic" part, because a Chaotic Evil person does not submit to any authority. Well, we'll see. Adolfo should make an appearance and I will be total olev.

Adolfo's like, the ONLY Rider in Apocrypha.
But I'll give you that, she could be Lawful Neutral in execution, but Chaotic Neutral in spirit.
Going by stuff she said like "You don't like blood do you? So we took care of that too. Tasted bad though."
Title: Re: Fate/Kaleido-Round 6, Phase 1 (Orders)
Post by: Bardiche on January 29, 2012, 08:14:53 PM
Evil does mean  selfish, and a considerate move like that does somewhat contradict "Chaotic Evil". Well if Nasu says it is so it must be true right.

And they could write a new Rider. :V But Adolfo sounds amusing from the description, being prone to jabbering a lot and accidentally getting into lewd business.

In hindsight, had someone picked Adolfo, I probably would've gone with a different character, and went more for the "Those Two Guys" kinda thing.
Basically, a pair of like-minded individuals who have an unnerving tendency to find themselves in humorous situations.

DO YOUR EYES DECEIVE YOU? FUCK NO.  THIS SHIT JUST. GOT. REAL.

"So my enemies finally show themselves before me!" A spear.

"Ara ara~! So you're the mysterious hidden competitor we've been looking for! Shall we show this infidel a lesson in manners, goshujin-sama~?" A mirror.

"My lord's will demands your death." A katana.

"Your territory's growth ends here, Lancer. There's no where to run." A sword.

A laugh. Slow at first, then growing with the momentum of an avalanche. "Hahaha...hahaha! HAHAHAHA!" A projectile flies at the mirror user, swiftly dodged. Glass shatters on the pavement and wine splatters across it. "Why would I run, whelps? There is, indeed, no where to run to. For everywhere here is my domain! Now then! Let us begin!"

Spears. Hundreds upon thousands of them, of every shape and every blade and every condition. The ground is torn asunder by their entrance into the world, turning the entire area into a macabre field of blades. A field of impalement. Cars turn into nothing more than perforated chunks of metal. Nothing is safe on the ground.

The masters scurry for cover. The servants, save for one, leap and perch upon buildings, but even then they aren't safe; the lances continue to jut out of every surface, slowly crawling up the buildings, the lamp posts, the signs, the traffic lights...anything that touches the ground.

Lancer falls gracefully, landing atop the highest building in sight. With the moon glowing behind him, painted a gorey red by the sheer prana being discharged into the atmosphere by his Noble Phantasm, he is truly the image of monstrosity.

"Kazıklı Bei! Now face me if you dare, whelps! Cowards and brave fools alike will be struck down by my spears!"

Caster, atop a tilted lamppost, giggles softly into her sleeve as her mirror revolves around her. Three talismans smoothly appear in her other hand. "How dramatic of an entrance. I'll be sure to return those sentiments with interest~"

Saber merely swipes her sword once as the desolation approaches her. A wave of force explodes from her in the wake of that gesture, and the spears are halted. No...stopped. Protected against. A meter wide swathe surrounds her as the spears erupt around her; a single piece of salvation amongst a morbid festival of weaponry.

Rider leaps atop a building of his own, swiftly intercepting the spears that reach up at him with his own. The warrior remains silent at the Lancer's proclamation and merely readies himself for combat.

----

"Aaaah, welcome my friends. Welcome Master of Assassin and Master of Berserker. Welcome Berserker and Assassin. Welcome to my domain."

The disembodied voice reaches everywhere, from everywhere. Familiar yet not, echoing hauntingly around them.

The young man stands back to back with the young woman, neither comprehending the realm around them. All they remembered was taking shelter in the Grail Organizer's shrine...then...?

An endless field. Black water stretching into an endless horizon. Darkness. Darkness. Ripples across the water, spreading into infinity. There is no end. No limit to this place.

"A...a bounded field? Reality Marble?!"

"Don't get your panties in a bunch...it's probably just some kind of trick...any hows, best idea would probably...wha-?! Assassin?! Where-?"

"Berserker! Answer me!"

"Nope~! As one who wields servants so often, I know exaaaactly how to disconnect them from you, if only for ever so long~" The voice is mocking. Sing song. "Until you get out of here, I'm just afraid you'll have to rough it out alone~!"

Then they appear, around them. Covering every single bit of land, surrounding them in a mass of writhing darkness. Countless. To give them a number would be pointless. There are too many to be 'defined' by a 'number'. The magi could tell there that there was something off about this legion...of dolls. Stuffed toys and tin soldiers. Alone, they'd be nothing, but with this number...

"Tch...seems like we're gonna have to team up lady! The name's Takuma Akio!" Magic gathered along his fists, filled to the bursting point. The grin on his face was implacable, and despite herself she could not help but share it. "Nice to be working with ya!"

"Haa...seems like there's no choice. Very well. Kazuko Futsuyuki. I'll be in your care." Ice of the coldest temperature gathers around her hands, as does fire of the most vibrant red.

----

"..."

"..."

No words need to be said between them. None from the dagger wielding child, nor the maul wielding woman. It's very clear that until the enemies in front of them, seventeen floating sentinels and three armored wolf monsters, disappeared, they wouldn't be reunited with their masters. Even if they had to fight together to get rid of them...the safety of their Masters was first. Everything else was secondary.

----
And so the violence within the Shrine, the Battle of the Dollmaker's Workshop, began.
----

Spears rain down on them, a limitless tempest of steel. Spears rise up at them, reaching from the ground like the cold hands of a corpse. A massive conflagration of flame and a squall of mach speed winds combine and explode into an infernal hurricane. A nameless sword is discarded and drawn in favor of his true weapon, which darts through the air like a hornet. And the sacred blade wielded by sacred hands swings with iron conviction, scattering her foes before her.

The battle has only begun.

----

"Tch...foolish Lancer..."

----
A knight in red and a sword wielding boy stand outside the Shrine. Neither like what they sense.

"Archer..."

"Yes."

That sound you hear friends?
That's shit getting real. (And I might add, that's a rather nice touch. I can see a Makiri/Matou pulling something like this in canon. They did make the command seals after all.)

He feels the tug on his prana reserves and snarls further. "Where is that damned Servant, and what is he doing?"

---

"Hahahahahaa!" His laughter booms through the terrain, as if each spear was amplifying his voice. By now, the entire district was impaled; to even move was an effort in and of itself, let alone dodging the projectiles he had ripped from the ground and thrown. "Yes, yes! Dance for me! Dance and suffer my foes! My spear rises in giddy joy at the sight of your struggles! Now see if you can defeat me within the deepest confines of my world! For this is battle...no, life! This is what it means to fight each other! Show me everything!"

The armored saint snarls before a burst of speed brings her right in front of him. "How lewd," is her statement, curt and punctuated with a mighty swing of her sword. An absurd exchange of blows follows, occuring over only a scant few seconds, then an explosion of white flame seperates the two.

"Watch your aim, fox!"

"Oh, dear me, I didn't realise you were there~"

That quick exchange of 'pleasantries' reminds everyone present of the nature of their alliance. But those were thoughts best left for later.

"!" His battle cry is wordless, silenct. In the aftermath of Caster's spell, he dashes in and swings his polearm with an previously withheld conviction. "Tonbo-giri!"

The invocation is cast. As if the storm itself had answered his cry, Rider's spear expels a blast of wind tapered to a thin edge, slicing through every obstruction in its way. The very atmosphere distorts in passage of this attack, and Lancer barely manages to dodge out of the way, unexpecting of the assault.

But not without harm. A long gash is torn into his side, following the path of his absurd twist to get out of the way. Blood splatters across the scene as he clicks his tongue in annoyance, but even then there is already another attack.

"That magic...I'll be taking it."

The floating disc, the mirror of the fox, flies in a deadly arc from below. With his spear already held up in front of him, he can't reposition fast enough. The distraction of the explosion and the followup by Rider is too much; the mirror crunches into his torso, dragging for a moment before sending him flying off.

His breaths are ragged. The three that oppose him, the fox, saint, and warrior, all pause to regain their breath. He is not nearly so composed, gripping his chest with one hand while he stares incredulously at the fox. "You...you wench...what did you??"

It's unmistakable. The glow of prana flows around her weapon for a moment before it disappears within it, and she merely smiles and winks in response.

At this point, it was inevitable. He would probably die here. With three Servants against him, even in his territory, defeat was most likely assured. Unless...

"Yes...yes...YES! This is what I've been waiting for, my fellows! But the conclusion to this fight will have to be delayed. The play is not yet through, the climax not yet arrived. We will continue later, I swear it upon my lance. Til next-"

His dramatic exit is interrupted, as is everything else. Masters and Servants alike cry out in shock as explosions rock the area, staggering them all.

It was instant. A projectile of straight trajectory, flying in at an absurd speed. Beyond anything any of them could muster. And with that speed came force, and a what a force it was; the very land itself shook at the impact.

"Who...?!" the saint manages, coughing at the smoke.

"Seems like we've interrupted quite the party, Archer!" comes a voice, entirely new. It (he, rather) wields an extraordinarily ornate blade, and stands with the proudness of one confident in oneself.

"Indeed Master." And aside him is a knight in red and black, wielding a bow that disappears into light and is replaced by twin swords, one black and the other white.

Lancer lets out a short laugh as the device in his hand crumbles. With a force as strong as that, it was no wonder that a fragile creation like his Master's would break.

"I see three servants here ganging up on another, Archer, and as heroes of justice I believe our course of action is obvious! However, should you Servants and Masters wish to negotiate, I do believe we are all open to suggestions! What with a fresh Servant introduced to a fight where most are run ragged, there's not much else for you to pick."

It's bravado. Or confidence concealed as such. The irritating smirk on the red/black knight's face could be telling of either. But with the force of that attack, who knew what this duo was possible of?

----

"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"..."

Silence, yet not. The twin daggers and the lightning bound cudgel swings in arc after arc, cleaving through whatever they can find. But their foes are nimble and work well together, which can not be said of them. One automaton sacrifices itself and selfdestructs, and the others batter the cloud that follows with their own munitions.

The automatons are merely distractions. Bullets are no danger to a Servant. However, they are dangerous if only due to the presence of their backups. The wolves.

Armor peels away and reveals the barrel of a cannon, immense and length and girth. Smoke erupts from the exhausts and spikes drive into the 'floor', steadying them. And then, with a cataclysmic roar of thunder and fire, the shot is fired.

Mundane or not, a firearm of that caliber was still dangerous. And without the abliity to reach at those iron wolves, the two Servants would slowly be whittled down.

"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Electricty leaps from the cudgel wielding girl, arcing like snakes into her foes. The knife user barely dodges out of instinct, while several of the knight-like constructs are not so lucky. Power is released in a crushing flood and before anyone can react the cudgel falls upon one of the canid robots.

She batters into it over and over again, uncaring of the automatons that slam into her. She merely swats them away with swings of her arm, shattering them like porcelain dolls.

The knife wielder takes advantage of the situation to silently kill another of the canines, but before she can capitalize and kill the other the rest of the entourage fly in to guard it.

Her eyes narrow as her insane 'companion' roars. This would be troublesome.

----

A war cry explodes from his lips as he slams a fist directly into one of the dolls. It explodes easily, a gandr emerging from the toy's back to pierce through another three before stopping. "Ha! Not so tough are ya?!"

Her arms swing gracefully, leaving fire and ice in their wake. Burned into ash or frozen and shattered, it didn't matter. Anything that approached her was scattered into dust. In contrast to her new found ally, she is silent.

Dozens upon hundreds met the same fate, but still it wasn't enough. They reformed at the edges of their vision, prana fused fluff disappearing and weaving into each other to rebolster the numbers of this legion.

"Stupid dolls! Any clue how to get rid of these things permanently?"

"None what so ever. I suggest you...tch!...just try to stay alive until our Servants-"

Something breaks. The boundary between 'worlds' is shattered as a screaming, storm-wreathed girl emerges from this newfound rip in reality. In her wake is a much quieter female, who nontheless is no less fatal to the mannequins with her knives as the louder one is with her bludgeon.

"...arrive," she finishes, clearly bemused. The young man whistles in appreciation of the forces of nature in front of him, for those girls could be described as nothing else.

In but moments the rest of the dolls are destroyed. Through a combination of lightning, ice, fire, and sheer prana, they're scattered until nothing remains.

"Now then," she starts, dusting off her attire. "Let's see what we can do to escape this-"

Yet again, something breaks. The bounded field fades away until nothing is left but the slightly battered inside of a shrine.

He sniggers a bit at her second interruption, to which she can only glare.

"Shall we see about finding our captor then, Takuma?"

"Sure, sure." He can't help but chuckle at her.

----

"Thank you Varia. Despite all you've done to me...you've done it for me, from the start, haven't you?"

She merely nods, resting at the shore. She seems at peace, one visible eye closed.

"The cannon shots at the bridge, which both seperated the masters that would clearly kill each other and bring together those would be amicable to team work. The bounded field, keeping the two here isolated long enough for the procedure to complete. And..."

The eyepatched woman cracks open her eye and holds a finger to her pursed lips. "Shhh, my friend. Don't spoil it. I've passed the legacy of my family to you now. With my familiars lost to Assassin, Berserker, and their Master, I've lost a great deal of my circuits. My Crest is all that is left, so use it well. I couldn't stop it...but I made it so that you can. Decide how you go about it, friend. There are resources available right here, as you know, regardless of how you choose to use them."

"I know. Thank you. I will end this for you."

She shakes her head. "No. End it for yourself. End it for this world. Make it so that the corruption of flesh that my family has had to suffer for all these generations never lives to see the innocence of mankind again. You are the end to this...Belial." Her eyes flutter and threaten to close. Her fingers twitch, her body shakes. He holds her in his arms and feels the growing weakness within her.

"I will live up to that goal. And the name you have given me."

Varia Svelt smiles gently, for the last time. "Ufufufu..."

He keeps still for a moment, then sets her gently upon the shore. Staring at the battle ensuing in the city, his fists clench with conviction. "I will live."

And so one rests, and another awakes from the torpor he thrust himself into.

----

"What?!"
"This presence...?!"
"What treachery is this!?"
"Still your mouth fool! Something far greater, far darker than any of us is coming!"

----

"This...this prana is...?"
"The Grail, definitely. Same as when I summoned Assassin...but hell, this...this is...way darker..."

----

"What is the meaning of this?"

----

A dark dome encapsules Izaya City. A perpetual, bloody black devours the very sky itself and traps everyone within. Civilians who are asleep fall into it forever more. Those still awake cease to be so. An immense, eldritch presence rises from the edges of reality, forming into undescribable beasts of shadow that stalk the fraying border of the world.

The Grail has awoken.

----

Izaya City has turned into an all out, complete free for all, survival of the fittest. Shadow beasts are attacking everyone without mercy. Previously captured zones are safe to the assault temporarily. The source of this corruption has not yet revealed itself; find it and you may end this madness. Or kill all the rest and embrace the void, and become the winner of this Grail War. Or perhaps do something else, eschewing the fate given to you in favor of your own desired one.

----

Wise up! Izaya City's Grail War:
In this dimension, the Holy Grail was discovered by an additional family: the Svelts. Varia Svelt, the manager for the most recent Grail War, is and was the last heir to this family, who were considered unorthodox and at times heretical to the nature of magecraft for their integration of technology with their art. This fusion of machine and magic, however, was not uncalled for; here, the Grail was corrupted from the start. Being the ones closest to it, the Svelt family was irrevocably corrupted by the exposure to All of the World's Evils, rendering them crippled and very nearly rendering them infertile.

Was it any wonder that the sphere of destruction, of utter erasure that followed each War was covered up? No one but the very highest echelons knew anything of the Grail's true nature, but even then no one would do anything. For greed or for fear, who knew?

The Svelts have remained low key since then, keeping under the radar. With each War they have sent their own agent in an attempt to somehow end their taint or end the Grail, but each time they have failed. Their body augmentations are the only things keeping them alive; the Crest of their family was both an heirloom and life support. And still they suffered, slowly becoming weaker and weaker with each generation. Only the advances in both technology and magecraft kept them alive in any shape and form; with Varia's birth, the one last hope was given to the Svelts. Both the healthiest and most powerful, and yet also completely infertile, Varia was the last chance. Through reaching into the multiverse itself, she called upon one last card to play...

----
AN: Ultimately, with Fate/Kaleido, I wanted to write a story. I wanted to use the premise of the Holy Grail War to start something that may become nothing, or may become greatness. I apologize for using you guys, and for the sudden plot twist, but this was my goal from the start. Writing, at the very least, fourteen distinct people into a story without focusing too much on any one or two is an absurdly hard task.

So I decided to shoot down two birds with one stone and give something back to Rumia's Party Games, which I find so much amusement in. I asked for signups and let the plot write itself for the first few rounds, but during the fifth or fourth I realised something.

This was an idea that popped up at midnight on Sunday. This was just some Fate/Stay Night flavored version of Diplomacy. But, I think, from the start, I think I intended this to be something different, if not more. I wanted Fate/Kaleido to be an exercise in what one is willing to give up for their goal, what one is willing to do for their goal. Some are willing to wait patiently, preparing themselves for an inevitable fight. Others are willing to explore and expose themselves. Some are willing to betray at any turn, and others still are willing to ally themselves with people they will eventually have to kill. Varia? She was willing to bet her entire lineage on one last chance.

I'll be honest. I didn't know what Varia was going to do until about a day ago. Her goals were unknown even to me, the guy who created her. Why did she bombard the bridge? Why did she capture two servants and masters just to delay them?

But then I realised that she was giving up. A lot. She was giving up her escape by destroying the bridge. She was giving up her power by distracting those two servants with her familiars. So I asked myself: what was she giving up all this for? And in the end I realised Varia had outsmarted me and managed to orchestrate something completely absurd, without her creator even realising. I had the barest ideas of what she was doing, but in the end I let her write herself. Strange how your fictional creations go beyond you sometimes, huh?

Fate/Kaleido isn't over. Not by a long shot guys. Send me your orders whenever you have the time.

Thank you for participating, for joining me in this little or not-so-little experiment. And again, my apologies for using you. Or...perhaps...Varia's apologies? Haha...at the very least, I have to apologize for taking so long.

Game-perspective-wise, it is a valid mixup. I would have liked the Diplomacy aspect of it to have gone on a bit longer, however, as that is what made the game stand out for me. Otherwise, what you're doing is entirely within a Fate-esque plot, so I cannot complain more than saying that it would have been nice for there to have been a more gradual transition between phases.

Shine on, you crazy diamond!

Hahaha! This is crazy! And I love it!
And I gotta admit, not even one of my own creations would have been able to pull something like that, it really shows just how good you are at this.
This was a real Kotomine-esque thing, especially since she seems to have used all the fun to prepare her successor.
Which clearly shows that she wasn't really all THAT evil, just operating on different logic. NASU LOGIC.

Which, I gotta admit, is damn awesome. She had a motivation that's likely similar to Zouken(Preserving the lineage?), but behaved like the lovechild of Alice(Puppets?!), Yukari(alien thought processes), and Kotomine(Grail War Supervisor).

Plots mixed up, but don't worry. You still all have complete control; it's just that the third party just bit it, and a fourth and fifth have just popped up. :P

And to be honest, I don't think the Diplomacy elements are gone. Like mentioned, territories held before are still yours (for now), and the diplomacy elements before have mixed in to the current situation. If all of you had just eschewed that, figuring that killing everyone would be easiest, you'd all be pretty screwed right now. And taking territories back from the Grail is certainly possible...along with anything else you could think of.

Ah, probably me just defending myself. =v=

Wars are often named after the sides that participate in it. If not that, then they are named after what is fought over.

The Grail War has become both.

Let's begin then.

If you controlled a sector at any point, the residual effect of your prana has protected it this round from invasion by the Grail spawn. Assume all other zones to be overrun. The shrine area, Zone 11, is also safe for this round and this round alone unless someone captures it.

New Action!
You may now 'sanctify' an area. This prevents Grail spawn from capturing that area, but requires your utmost attention for that round. Therefore, you are still vulnerable to attacks from other zones and, perhaps most dangerously, attacks from other Masters and Servants. However, should you choose the sanctify action, then you may also send a contingency order to abandon the process if a betrayal or an outright assault occurs.

You may notice that this is encouraging you to team up, one Master/Servant pair to sanctify an area and another to protect them. You'll also notice that there are odd numbers of Master/Servant pairs. You'll further notice that there's Varia's 'friend' in Zone 11, who may do anything.

A Master/Servant pair could definitely take on a Grail Spawn assault coming from one direction. Two would be dangerous, but possible. Three? Not happening. Make your call. Unless you had your Servant steal the prana from the other masters, and thus abuse the link between Master and Servant to steal from the Servants as well, which is theoretically possible but has never been done before, doing this solo would be impossible.

Two servants and masters are in Zone 11. You're surrounded by Grail Spawn on both sides, and obviously the west bridge is out.
The rest are in Zone 13. The path forged by the triple alliance earlier is clear, as is the territory established to the north, but everywhere else is overrun.

Unless you were the ones to capture an area, you're not specifically sure of where is safe and where isn't; only a guess of which zones are clear based on what you've been sensing throughout the entire ordeal.

I'm playing this by ear but by the rules too. Earlier rules apply. If you want to deliberate, do so. I will be providing specific quicktopics very shortly via pm to the above two groups.

Feel free to ask questions or point out any flaws in what I've got. I'm working solo here after all. :)

The situation is glum people. Work together and save the city, or stab each other's backs and claim it for yourself.
