Huzzah, that was easier than I expected!  Now to wait for things to arrive and then either ship them quickly or wait to get closer~!

This year seems to be much easier for me than any other so far for my non-CPSS shopping, too, snce Iat least KNOW what I'm getting for a lot of people, even if I haven't actually gotten it yet.

How are all of you faring with the stuff you're getting and/or making?

I actually had a really good idea for a gift for my partner today, but I don't actually know if I'll be able to achieve procuring the item in time for the deadline. If I do though it'll be something really good.

Although I think I'll want to buy something else on top of it if I can get the forementioned thing for a reasonable price.

A reasonable budget is 'whatever's comfortably in your means'.  Don't look at the pricetags as some point you should try to go above or below.  Get what you want that you can get and not go into hock or whatever, and that's the right amount.

Also it's not what you spend on it but the thought that counts etc.

Well my really good idea came through with something even better then I expected, so I'm super ecstatic right now about it. I hope my partner really likes it since the person I had to ask about it seemed to really go and give me something special for them.

Yeah I figured that would be the case. The price I listed is actually a lot for me right now, but since I can't make anything myself I feel like I should give a couple pretty nice things to wow my partner for the gift. Tis the season, after all.

There is no reason to value your gift's $$$ rating like Jq said. We're not here to surpass each other's gifts expenses. Thought is what counts and making it as fun as possible. Read few posts back about 'impacting' discussion Purvis and I noted.

Hand-made things, unique local things (bonus to overseas participants, I remember Drake once sent a bottle of maple syrup to Japan or somewhere one year despite ridiculous shipping) are two ways to make an awesome impression without breaking the budget.

Or giving stuff that you already own but haven't really 'used', which is especially useful if you want to give something fandom-related and are worried about getting it in time to ship.

Creative gifts are definitely a plus I'd say. Part of the fun of doing this SS is assembling a gift that you know will make your partner's face light up.

Yeah, first time I took part in this I sent MJP/triangles a slew of little Icelandic trinkets and baubles. They weren't expensive or anything but you can't get them outside of here. They certainly seemed appreciative anyway!

If you check back in the old threads there's a huge variety of gift types that are sent and appreciated.  Really as long as you're not doing like Yankee Candle level of unwanted item regifting (see also: every tricky tray fundraiser ever) and are thinking about what the person likes and such, if not from their list you can always check their posts/Steam/Twitter/etc etc, that's the ~holiday spirit~  I've gotten handmade and storebought scarves from past CPSS and I still wear both, along with socks and a hat  :3 (I think I see a trend here)

As for me, my partner made it so easy with their list it was hard to finally decide on exactly what to do (or was it instead so hard to cobble clues together that only one single flash of inspiration would work?) but I have A Plan now you see.

Oh hey now that people are starting to send out gifts here's some tips blatantly copied from a post I made last year, especially good with all the fresh faces we have this time around:

1) Giftwrap your present before putting it in the box you're mailing out!  This will keep the surprise even if the box gets opened early accidentally or someone's parents don't trust internet strangers (to be fair we are pretty strange  :derp:)

2) If you are sending internationally and the shipping prices are looking ridiculous, take a look at various online sellers and ordering direct to your partner.  Amazon in particular is nice since they have warehouses all over the world and could save you quite a bit!  Though in that case I'd definitely recommend springing for giftwrapping per #1.  Another option if you're looking for things from Japan without the crazy markup is our homeboy N-Forza - bonus points as this will obfuscate your sending address and help keep your identity a ~mystery~

3) Double check the address when writing it out and write clearly!  One of the packages to the anglehousehold was missing the zip code once which can delay things a lot, same if they can't read the writing on the box since the postal system is so overloaded this time of year.  If you're unsure of the format there are a number of guides that can help with addressing international mail.

Good tips, triangles. I'm not able to take advantage of #2 because I'm getting items from different places, though. As for how I'm doing, still waiting for the delivery of half of my gifts (it'll take 1-2 weeks) before sending it: I'll likely be down to the wire when it gets sent.
