Title: [Art]Pirated Art
Post by: Pirate on August 12, 2012, 05:04:24 AM
Oho. I've been making enough artwork and been plenty happy with myself to actually POST some artwork in a new thread!

None of these pictures are actually pirated.

(In order of earliest to latest)

Murasa http://www.fileize.com/view/4f193790-d28/ (http://www.fileize.com/view/4f193790-d28/)

Cirno (I swear I did not get inspired by a certain pool in danbooru) http://www.fileize.com/view/de012b2f-184/ (http://www.fileize.com/view/de012b2f-184/)

Koishi and Orin http://www.fileize.com/view/a60b8364-387/ (http://www.fileize.com/view/a60b8364-387/)

Komachi and Eiki. Brush whoring is now my favourite technique http://www.fileize.com/view/9b07810d-3a9/ (http://www.fileize.com/view/9b07810d-3a9/)

REPORTED FOR PIRACY

Well there's some potential here. Anatomy is mostly correct, coloring is basic but that usually improves by itself.
Facial anatomy is somewhat off, but the expressions still convey emotion well. Keep at it yo

Oho, facial anatomy? Mind giving me an example where I got it wrong?

And thanks, it's always nice to be appreciated.

Anyway, nice pics ;)

In just a little over a month, you've already improved a great deal; the top half of that Miko is really well done.
What I will say is that sometimes bits of limb are chopped a little too much by a brush stroke, or the anatomy of one part will detract from the high quality of the rest of the picture; the Miko, for example, is really well-done and looks pretty spiffy, but her weirdly shaped body and strange left arm detract from the overall composition quite a bit.
Regardless, keep it up! :3

GODAMMIT IT ALWAYS HAPPENS

I get more urgent and more in a hurry to post it, so I end up leaving more mistakes than a holey ship made by the worst craftsmen.

The first time I was going to post it I actually forgot to colour the camera. Imagine that orz.

Thanks for the compliment on the hands though, I had to take a picture of my own as a reference because I had no idea how you hold cameras.

Nice ayayayay, the only problem for me is that  her nose looks a bit strange, like a cat nose.

I don't know about that. I just thought I'd make a nose that looked remotely realistic. Guess I failed in that department, whatever the reason.

Oh someway you fixed that Reimu :P

Nice job with the grass, now I know why you used 8 thousand layers to draw it.

There are some "black points" in Suika's right leg that made me think that my screen was dirty :P
You could put something more in the background like mountains, also I think that you could make a better fireball and her hands pose doesn't look like a hand that is shooting something, maybe if you open more the fingers it could look better.

Lazy background rules, and I think that I discovered (or not) the cat's "problem" that we were chatting in IRC about it, its eyes are too "back", so it looks that its head is round like a seal's head. Cat's eyes are positioned in the front of its head.

Anyway, cool colors :)

Ghovs kept bugging me about feet, so I just did them, lol. You just need to take references and it'll come to you...somehow. (Yeah I'm not helpful at all)

http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/index?tags=kuro_suto_sukii (NSFW because it's danbooru, of course)

* The right boob from the fat guy looks a bit strange;

Ohhh pantsu shot nice one, the dolls are lovely. The only thing that I think that you can change is the eyes. It looks like that you used that gradient tool from Flash to fill it. Maybe if you paint it like you did with the rest could make it looks better.
Title: Re: [Art]Pirate's salty sea art
Post by: Vyrien on March 11, 2013, 06:12:40 PM
I think you need to practice folds because I'm afraid they simply do not work that way, I have no idea what is going on. I suggest using this tutorial http://www.creativespotlite.com/drawing/drapery-tutorial-1.htm Try practicing a few folds and post them here.

-There is quite a bit wrong with her anatomy, the first thing that caught my attention was the pantyshot, the suspicious bulge suggests Alice might be a trap which I'm going to assume isn't what you were aiming for.

-The little finger of her right hand looks broken and does not fluidly connect to the rest of her hand.

-Her left foot does not look connected to her leg, you can see how the bone structure works here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankle

-I'll echo Kaze_Senshi about the gradient of her eyes, also, why is the shine on the left of her iris when the light source of the picture is coming from her right? Her pupils are different sizes but that isn't very important in the grand scheme of things.

-Shanghai's boobs are too high up.

-Alice's right leg looks strange.

You said you were lazy and I'm going to have to agree, especially where shading and colouring is concerned. The scribbling that you use to shade with looks messy and doesn't convey a sense of depth at all. Its use on her face makes it look a bit like stubble. Similarly, how come Alice doesn't have a shadow underneath her but the foreground does where there is nothing to cast one?

-You also haven't filled in the colours properly, there are random blue streaks all over the place (presumably where the sky is showing through) and often the colour does not quite meet the lineart, leaving pixels of white everywhere.

-There is no variation in the lineart thickness which, again, limits depth and makes the piece look rather flat.

-The lineart doesn't always join together (most noticeably her right elbow)

-You might want to work on your frills, Ragathol provided me this in the first Art Tips thread http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=10937.0;attach=21398;image

An interesting colouring and stylistic approach. Almost makes me think Aya was in Frozen. :V

It does appear as if there is a stylistic difference between the face and body, which causes a bit of inconsistency. I think the latter's relative chunkiness relative to the facial details is the culprit.

The way you drew legs and feet in those last two pictures is fantastic. It shows both refined painting technique and good anatomical knowledge.

The poses in those two pictures are great too. Often when I draw a full body pose, it ends up looking like they would tip over to the side (particularly when you look at them in the mirror). You have no such problems.

Something about Kogasa's face feels off to me, but your princess portraits show you're clearly good at drawing faces, so it might just be my taste.

Something different.

@DX7_EP

Will have to elaborate on what you mean by chunky/facial details

@Sixten

You're not the first person to note Kogasa's face being off. But I don't know how to fix it so i'll leave it at that.

Compared to the face, the rest of the body seems to show more sharp contrasts and less smooth transitions between shades. This is made more apparent in the clothing, but is also there somewhat in the legs, arms, and hair.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm pretty stoked about how my studies paid off.

Wanted to post some work earlier but scrapped them all due to issues. Working on a personal project at the moment so i likely will take even longer. (hurrah)

Man you weren't kidding-

Is the joke really just him taking off his shirt :V

The comic feels incomplete. Not all comics have to be funny, but if this was indeed an attempt at humour I... would suggest you continue the plot instead

Do you base your faces on real people ever? One thing i've liked about your more recent stuff is it feels like they're somewhat modeled after real people.  I especially like the expression on the last one, super cute!

Background sucks but I had to try.

@Nobu: I've done portraits with reference before so I guess it carried over. I'm trying to rely on imagination now though

@Nekorex: I'll keep posting!

I appreciate the comments, really; I don't really know if people look in this thread these days.
