moving diagonally towards these bullets, you die on these frames, before you get anywhere near the bullet

die as in you stop (can't change direction), hit sound plays and you're put into deathbomb period

They probably aren't, these are frame-perfect tests where I am running straight into the bullets. The possible implications this has could be that the game is checking for collision in advance, which is awful bullshit, but I'm not complaining that I seemingly die before I get hit or anything of the sort. This is purely a technical problem. If these are the kinds of deaths that get you ALL THE TIIIIIIIIME you should stop flying straight into bullets.

because.

Alternately: PCB has a built-in defense against pause-buffering.

Face PCB in a spiritual way.
eb: there should be a shmup that is sort of like podd minus the versus shit
eb: you go dodging semirandom things then it goes WARNING GET OUT OF THE WAY MOTHERFUCKER and you get a shitstorm
KB: and there is no way out of the way
eb: the way is through

Does it happen anywhere else? Just to Marisa? I never had this problem when I messed around with frame advance.

It doesn't happen if you're using the vsync patch. What a lovely tool it is.

Would that cause desync when the replay is played back with(out) vsync patch?

It will only look like it kills you in advance when the death is "unavoidable" i.e. you would have died regardless. If you do a run with vpatch and die, then play it back with non-vpatch, it'll look as if you died the frame before. If you do a run without vpatch and die "the frame before", if you play it back with vpatch it'll look normal. It's the same thing.

This isn't an issue that actually affects the game, it's an issue that affects the player's perception.
