I have to call dad.
I'd like to, but I doubt I'd be able to.
I'm not old enough to be your dad!
and I've never drove that far before so I'd be ridiculously nervous doing so
too far away etc
Mine still hasn't sorted anything yet, if I wait much longer I'll have to sleep in the streets of Baltimore :ohdear:
Psh, find one of the toubros in that area to carpool with. I think Suzuran from #sm IRC is going again, and he's in that area.
no driver's license yet
lazy
y not. Mine still hasn't sorted anything yet, if I wait much longer I'll have to sleep in the streets of Baltimore :ohdear:

Yeah I have that page open for a few days now. And I can buy a membership from here in Rio. I was thinking that, but my dad is lolol I hotels and didn't like the idea.I stopped by there literally a week and a half ago, and the guestbook had entries from some international guests basically saying it's the "best hostel in the U.S.". It's a very old and beautiful place, right in the middle of what's probably the nicest area of downtown Baltimore.
Hostels are really nice, though.
You're in luck! Plenty of people sleep on the streets of Baltimore. I doubt you'll have much trouble making pals.Eheheh.... =/
I'll be there, got hotel and badge and err'thing.
and making fun of New Jersey allllll the way down the Jersey Turnpike.
making fun of New Jersey allllll the way down the Jersey Turnpike.
HATERS GONNA HATEOkay, but someone's gotta prove to me that NJ is more than smokestacks, tollbooths, and warehouses. It's also the place that my dreaded senior project adviser was unceremoniously shipped off to and I know George Carlin had his own reasons for making an album entitled "What am I Doing in New Jersey".

No prereg, no hotel plans, forgot to submit my panel and got rejected for press badge
Yup, sounds like a typical year for me BV
I usually try to come up with some sort of cosplay, but I procrastinate and leave it for the last minute and then it winds up sucking so I scrap it. Probably won't even bother this year.
Haha, how did you try to get a press badge?
Claim SM.org was a legitimate anime/visual arts culture news blog.
Ahahaha >_>
God damn I wish I had thought of the press badge idea last year.
Maybe next year we'll get "Of Tacos and Tiles: Mahjong in Anime" panel together.
Starring 10 minutes of yukkuri footage on a big screen!
Wait, wrong panel.
Better than some retard blowing off on how everyone's a bunch of pedophiles. =|
No, the guy hosting the panel that replaced the rescheduled Touhou panel in 2008.
triangles and I are sharing a room in the Holiday Inn with two lesbians and their friends.
That's funny, I didn't order a pizza from a sexy blonde delivery girl... :o
I'm not going if I can't meet anyone there :<Sounds to me like we're all going to be there
I'm not going if I can't meet anyone there :<
Neither is HakureiSM. Doesn't seem to be stopping him.Sell a kidney, go to Otakon
Why the hell did you think you were born with two of those? So I could buy every Cave PCB
theorizing on whether one occupant has botulism or not based on the way he sleeps
I am the best in-car napper on the planet. Don't you even try to deny.
you got hit by someone who was dual-wielding coma cannons point-blank.The mental image this sentence generates is amazing.
So I could buy every Cave PCBNo no no one kidney is obviously there just so you can sell it and go to Otakon.
And North-americans are born with two so they can donate to non-americans who sell their to go to Otakon.
Y'all owe me a kidney.
Dude! I nodded off, you got hit by someone who was dual-wielding coma cannons point-blank.
Home Made Kazoku will be the big-name musical guest on Sunday
I wanna try and visit this Otakon thing, but I have no clue on where to begin. It was easier going to Tekkoshocon since I was close enough, but I don't live in Baltimore. ^^;
I'll be there in spirit. Really sucks that I'm gonna miss you guys.
I was debating about just sticking with a Greyhound bus. There's two bus stations here, one on the east side of the city (the Travel Plaza), and one downtown just south of the stadiums. If you do go by bus, don't go to the Travel Plaza.
I'll be there in spirit. Really sucks that I'm gonna miss you guys.T___T
Pretty sure I'll be driving to DC and then taking the train from there, hahaThe MARC's (http://mta.maryland.gov/services/marc/) Camden Line runs between Union Station in DC, and Camden Yards in Baltimore.
The MARC's (http://mta.maryland.gov/services/marc/) Camden Line runs between Union Station in DC, and Camden Yards in Baltimore.Amtrak has trains that leave more often and run on Sundays, but I'll probably take the MARC up if I can grab a ticket. An early Amtrak is only $11 to Baltimore though, while a MARC is $7, so the price isn't an issue.
Still, parking at Union Station is $20 a day and I'd have to leave here at really early to make it there for a morning train, maybe I'll just drive all the way up there?Doesn't the Sheraton have parking?
Doesn't the Sheraton have parking?Yeah, but it still requires driving to/in Baltimore, plus parking at hotels in cities tends to be more expensive, like ~$30 or so a night. I'll call and ask though
That fucking sucks mang, there won't be any facial hair action since I gotta shave for Master Asia and ZUN. D:
Yeah, but it still requires driving to/in Baltimore, plus parking at hotels in cities tends to be more expensive, like ~$30 or so a night. I'll call and ask thoughGetting to the hotel is actually insanely easy (I-95 North, get off at 395 in Baltimore, stay right at the convention center). Driving around DC is probably the last thing you want to do, although probably a cooler place to hang out post-con than Baltimore.
The Fudgery.Screw that, Baltimore has Berger Cookies (http://bergercookies.com/).
Baltimore also has Obrycki's (http://www.obryckis.com/) so I'll forgive it.It's been 3 years since I've been able to go to the Cape in Massachusettsland and I'm so rarely afforded the opportunity for seafood in general. I'll certainly keep my options open.
Still no prereg, still no hotel BVGet it NAO. =| I'll be highly disappointed if you don't go.
Get it NAO. =| I'll be highly disappointed if you don't go.
Get what now? =<
Ammy sure loves to get people to go to a place full of fudge packe-
Still no prereg, still no hotel BV
I have no clue what I'm doing.
No hotel lined up at this point is much less of an issue than you may think.
MJP and I literally filled the 4th slot in our hotel room WHILE WE WERE DRIVING TO THE CONVENTION. I kid you not.
OK I'm driving all the way to Baltimore, it's only 22 bucks a night to park at the hotel
It's cheaper to find a nearby garage, for what it's worth. I can't remember the name of the place I always park, but it's only a couple blocks away from the convention center and it's $10/day.Somehow I completely forgot that parking garages exist. I'll look into some, and if you figure out the name let me know. I plan on arriving in Baltimore at around 8-9 AM, so there will hopefully still be some spaces available.
...plus some zany fashion dude.Pffft. Considering the attire of choice for most of us going, I have to wonder just who he's supposed to attract.
Still no word on whether triangles' and my panels were approved. I'm hoping they will, because Otakon needs to learn about politics in anime and time travel in anime.
Honestly, I don't really care about much, I just wanna hang out with MotK peeps, get trashed, and play Touhou around other peoples. :]
Oh my God, please, PLEASE bring a flux capacitor if your panel gets approved.Fixed. No, seriously.
Layla.Oh god I love this.
There's at least one more pretty big musical thing to announce, and a few pleasant surprises yet to come.
I hope it's Uematsu, I want to see him again.Nobuo Uematsu? I can hear it now. "BAWW IT'S NOT ANIMU MUSIC BAWW!!"
Nobuo Uematsu? I can hear it now. "BAWW IT'S NOT ANIMU MUSIC BAWW!!"
Maybe Baltimore is full of prudes?
So here's where we stand now, for those keeping score:
2 guests awaiting approval of press release, announcement next week.
1 guest with bio in progress (then press release and announcement)
1 guest waiting on bio, should turn around quickly.
1 guest awaiting confirmation
2 guests awaiting response
1 possible guest who I half expect to surprise me
As many as 3-4 possibilities who may prefer to slide under the radar and just show up unannounced. They're coming, but may be incognito.
Nobuo Uematsu? I can hear it now. "BAWW IT'S NOT ANIMU MUSIC BAWW!!"
The mere thought of someone in such a mindset makes me rather depressed. Uematsu is an amazing composer. :*Get money and come >;E
Get money and come >;E
Yumemi vest, bow tie, and skirt done. Cape with capelet is about 80% there. Haven't touched the wig yet but that shouldn't take long. Yup. Wrapping things up on this end and I should be done in about 2 weeks if I break my wrist.... NOW!Yeah I got lucky my request off for Otakon got approved the other day so now It should be smooth sailing from here. I had to convince my boss otherwise for AUSA last fall.
Now to hope and pray that my boss realizes that I not only qualify for vacation time more than a month before Otakon, but I've worked enough extra hours without pay to cover for both days I want off for Otakon in spades.
I don't think I'm going anymore D:Noooooooooooo :<
Ho fuck, Yoshiki's gonna be there.
Who?One of the guys from X-japan I think.
Ho fuck, Yoshiki's gonna be there.
I don't think I'm going anymore D:Why not? =[
Both MJP and I are waiting to hear back about our panels still :ohdear:
Witches 5
Kilga an' Sola an' Red plus one other allllllll got themselves their little Touhou panel approvedized.
holy shiiiiiit
maybe Mistress 9
Two others, actually. Yucari's in and she's going to spend a few minutes talking about doujins.Oh, so Scripty WILL be joining us to? He was a pretty cool guy. Last time it was brought up was at AB when Scripty was pondering it over, so he had to option to join in. Well, good.
I think several people here know who Script Fairy is, too, so no need to keep his name a secret.
WOOHOO!!! o/Dad. D=
Also:Why not? =[
Dad. D=;_; So no possible chance of you coming now, ne? That sucks.
All panel acceptance notifications have been sent. This accounts for 90/110 expected fan panels. As we enter scheduling, and have a more concrete idea of how many slots there will be, we will fill the remaining gaps from the waitlist. Some of those emails will go out tonight, some tomorrow, and then that's it. Also, keep in mind, people also cancel on us, so there could be last minute changes.
Those that have had their panel accepted, I'll touch base with you in a few days to begin confirming your registration. If you have ALREADY registered, it's not a big deal, it just means you might have to wait a while to get a check in the mail.
Thanks to everyone for being patient, it turned out to be a much larger task than I was expecting.
The final notifications (all waitlist) have gone out. We will need to pull quite a few over the next few weeks in order to fill the gaps in the schedule, so a few more of you will get some good news soon.
...
For those of you who have been accepted as panelists for Otakon 2010, I will be in touch with you over the next few days in order to iron out any and all details pertaining to your registration compensation.
We also just had all of our roommates back out last night too awesome ::)
We also just had all of our roommates back out last night too awesome ::)And I'm set to be in a room of seven. Waking up to shower and shave my legs at 6am like the FIST OF THE NORTH STAR.
1. ANOTHER musical guest's bio is under review and may be our next announcement. Just waiting for the okay on that release.
2. Booking travel for our director, seiyu, and producer guests -- hopefully I'll have the bios by tonight and we can announce this weekend.
3. Confirmed 3 of four additional guests. Director, character designer, producer, and writer (if we are able to bring all four of them), as well as the US Premier of the show they worked on together. Hope to announce early next week.
4. Bio & press release in process for another US voice actor -- it's largely ready to go, so that may be tomorrow.
5. Gotta poke our manga-ka's folks one more time. He should be released soon too.
6. And I've given someone else until friday to get back to me.
So that's 10 or 11 more guests queued up. I just wish they hadn't all taken so long to solidify!
I need R$5000 DD:That's...a lot, ~$2,800!
I need R$5000 DD:@____@
Travelling to the US won't cost less. Hooray third world.$5000R = ~$2800USD
I spent one week in Germany in 2007 and 6000 flew out the window.
$5000R = ~$2800USDYes, I know?
@____@Ugh, I just checked in Brasil's biggest airliner's website, and I guess I'd need even more, because flights to Washington and back alone would cost 4000.
What all is that for...? I mean, how much of that is for flights?
Ugh, I just checked in Brasil's biggest airliner's website, and I guess I'd need even more, because flights to Washington and back alone would cost 4000.Where are you flying out of? Have you checked the flight reservation sites, like Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.? I'm thinking, at least if you're coming just for Otakon, that there's a few people here with space in their rooms, so that's one thing you wouldn't have to worry about (at least being expensive). If you're staying longer there's still cheap places to stay.
Yep, no Otakon for me
It kinda stinks to realize that a cape with a lining you sewed just doesn't feel right. So I had to rip EVERY LAST STITCH ON A CAPE and I'm in the process of realigning the cape with the lining so it doesn't feel like I'm tying a really thin sleeping bag to my neck. Still, that took me such a long time just to make it through the stitches. Ugh.

Capes are tricky to fall right. Are you using a pattern or just free-forming?A mixture of both, I suppose. The original pattern was larger and I downsized it a bit, making it effectively 2/3 the size or thereabouts. I thought I had done well with stitching the two together, but I guess hastily attaching the lining proves how inept I can be with such things.
I get to go fabric shopping this weekend so I can actually start woo. And interweb wig shopping oh boy!Red is a good boy who aaaaaaaalways passes his B grade homework in early!

He's coming from Braaziiiiiiiiiilllllllll (do do doot, do do dodo doot~)YOU
YOU
You're not coming, are you. =|
At this point I have no clue... but it's been this way every year =P. But honestly I don't have a ride or a place to stay so unlikely. This year I can't drive so I either have to fly or carpool, noone lives near me and I'm near broke thanks to stupid ass car that keeps on breaking down.Greyhound has advanced purchase round-trip fares for $112 (departing Columbus). Just need to find someone who'll share their room.
Thursday night room secured! 90% chance of Otakon. I'm pretty consistently making $20 a day, so I'll have a good budget for the con.Excellent work, Kitten.

Hey if you count the costumes I already done I have half my Otakon stuff done already :VYeah, admittedly the majority of my stuff has already premiered at other cons and I've been working on them since November. Then again, I've never been quick to do this sorta thing and I don't intend to invest a large amount of time and effort into it. Speaking of fourth costumes though...
Not deciding on what your 4th outfit's gonna be definitely makes it hard to be done a month in advance, but I work best under pressure woooo.
Aww, nerts.
Who/how many would be missing?
If it's not too far out from having a full cast you're gonna tempt me to finish the damn Reisen ears and accept my fate as a melted puddle of trianglesweat in that outfit.
It can't be any worse than Medicine, which involves both dark colors and multiple petticoats to get it to "bulb" right.
Wool sportscoat + wool thighhighs = :(Why'd you make it from wool? Geh.
Except apparently people don't like to give away clothes for small people so I had to takes what I could gets.
So, an awesome idea occurred to me but I don't know how workable it'd be. But, a lot of us will be in Baltimore by Thursday evening, right? So couldn't we have like an MotK dinner or something? That'd be really fun if it could be made to work. I'm willing to help where I can if anyone has any ideas on making this workable and we have interest in it.I would think the trick is not having dinner right downtown, maybe a little ways away but still easy to get to. Plus, since I live here, I can make the reservation myself. :V

It was a lie and that is why I crossed it out.You better be. \o/
Dun worry Doggie, I'll still be there bright and early on Thursday :D
You better be. \o/
Err, you do realize everything in walking distance is basically gone. And you really don't want to coordinate getting 15-20 people to a restaurant that isn't within a few blocks from the waterfront, it's a nightmare and you'll have a lot of lost people.By today? Think we still have time to reserve something close? If so, I'll start making phonecalls.
Yeah, but everyone cancels at the last minute. While you won't get a room to yourself you pretty much can always troll the Otakon forums and get a room arrangement close to the con. That's totally accurate in my experiences as well. As I mentioned earlier, we snagged a roommate as we were driving down to Baltimore because we had someone drop on Tuesday or Wednesday night or something stupid like that.
OK, fine, that's my experience in general at least, I could be completely off. Feito seems to know more about emergency rooming.
By today? Think we still have time to reserve something close? If so, I'll start making phonecalls.
I wouldn't put your hopes up. We generally put down reservations around March/April.Says you!
OK. I'm doing Mikuru both Friday and Saturday, so you can pick either day.Alright. Um, I suppose it really doesn't matter considering how much the schedule is up in the air, but for now does Saturday morning sound okay? If the Touhou panels/shoots are at a certain time, I might need to adjust.
Phew! I finally get a good bit of free time to post stuff.Alright. Um, I suppose it really doesn't matter considering how much the schedule is up in the air, but for now does Saturday morning sound okay? If the Touhou panels/shoots are at a certain time, I might need to adjust.
Always willing to go out for dinner to avoid a 7th straight round of take-out. I've usually wound up going to one restaurant with a mob of people (or at least trying to) for each con I go to.
...and all other noisemakers are banned at Otakon 2010.Does this mean no more "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!"?
This just in: by massive request and common sense, vuvuzelas and all other noisemakers are banned at Otakon 2010.
Fuck yeah!
This just in: by massive request and common sense, vuvuzelas and all other noisemakers are banned at Otakon 2010.This is the worst news ever!
Fuck yeah!
There are three (!) Touhou shoots, and all of them are at noon. Plan accordingly.Gotcha. I'm not so sure about Sunday considering the long trip home, but I'll be set for Friday and Saturday, so I'll be set for the panel, too.
The panel will most likely be sometime Saturday afternoon, based purely on what I remember asking Sola to put down.
Saturday morning should be fine. Otakon forces you to sleep :P.Wat am slep? Last year I clung to consciousness as we watched an infomercial in the wee hours of the morn. I'll still be up early, so I'll be ready for whenever you are.
Okay, I think I'm fine with the vuvuzela ban now. (http://board.otakon.com/index.php?showtopic=19389&view=findpost&p=218262)Oh, WOW, that person was thinking the exact same thing that I was. I might not like the noise, but I could live with it even if it haunted me in my (lack of) sleep. Other people not so much. I think it's for the best because I can imagine a body bag with a vuvuzela stickin' straight up out of it.

Seriously, if they are going to ban this, and ban meme shouting, can they please make the asshole vendor who screams about yaoi shut up?

I think you missed the point of that link. That's an Otakon staffer pointing out that Otakon staff will start ejecting people for memeshouting, be it BUTTSCRATCHER or MARCO or THE GAME or whatever else obnoxious little fucks think is funny.*shrugs* Sort of? I've gotten used to the other meme stuff, so I've developed a partial tolerance to it. I guess I think the vuvuzelas would push me from major headache to aortic aneurism mode. Also, the vuvuzelas themselves are a tangible thing that con staff can take away. As soon as someone enters a crowd of people and barks whatever aggravating phrase he pleases, the entire crowd is gonna get in trouble. So, I guess I think the vuvuzelas will be a lot easier to keep in check than anyone with a working set of vocal cords who wants to frustrate the con staff.
Sorry about buttscratcher... that was totally my group's fault last year :ohdear:
I kind of doubt that. <_< It was all over the place.
18:12 <~Mashiro-Rima> I dunno, I don't see the big deal over memeshouting, con is loud get used to it
18:12 <~Mashiro-Rima> as long as they're not like distrupting panels/etc
18:12 <~Mashiro-Rima> it's harmless fun
18:18 <~Mashiro-Rima> see banning memeshouting and stuff just ruins half of the fun of being at a con
18:18 <~Mashiro-Rima> you know, being stupid with a bunch of other stupids for a weekend shouting injokes
hmmmmm this ban could prove troublesome for my costume...I guess I'll have to tone down the sfx and show them off sparingly to keep staff off me. as long as I'm not walking the halls with them blaring I should be good I guess.
You go for the hot shonen-ai selection down in the dealers room.
Is this in place of or in addition to the bowling we were planning on doing?I uuuuuhhh, well I guess in addition to. I totally forgot about that. =|
Whelp we have 6 of our group, plus UK and Firest☆rm29 (and Kilga too?). Anyone else?
New plan: run around like an attention starved child and attempt to do everything!Works for me. =<
Drats, looks like I missed the online prereg date. Umm... any recommendations? -.-;
If you don't need to be at the con right at opening time the regular reg lines aren't that bad after noon IIRC. Even when they had attendance caps to worry about a few years back I think they didn't fill up until Saturday. They're expanding Thursday pre-reg hours and using a bar code system this year so that should (in theory) streamline reg across the board.

Anyone know a place where I can buy a premade animu costume and have it arrive before Wednesday of next week? I kind of got an urge to cosplay for a day but I have neither the time nor the motivation to make my own atm.
Man, I did Aya before it was cool. Everyone be jackin' my shit.
I just hope the TSA doesn't give me crap for taking Su-san on the flight with me. I can't bring her box, it's too big.
>_>

Edible, if you can grow a goatee, I'll loan you my old glasses and a lab coat. It's up to you to create the fake Black Mesa ID.
I'm a wuss that doesn't actually want to wear a skirt despite all the false bravado I put up
oh
Dresses > SkirtsI 'unno. As Yumemi, I get to wear a standard button-up shirt along with a homemade vest and bow tie. Plus I get to wear a skirt on top of that. So I'll not only look like a confused deranged freak to the mundanes, but a classy confused deranged freak.
If you're still undecided for dinner, I recommend Phillip's: moderately priced, varied menu, right at the harbor.Philips is okay. Only thing is a bunch of people wanted to go bowling. I'm down for bowling myself, but I definitely want decent food too. I need to make the reservations, like today. =|
Why go bowling when you can go to Discovery Zone after dinner and climb around on the rope nets and play with sciency stuff? How did you know that I still do this? I don't care what they tell me. I'm a paying customer and I'll hide in the bathroom well past closing time just so I can have the ball pit all to myself. It's no fun when you wind up jumping on some kid trying to hide from his parents so he doesn't have to go home.
Phillip's is best known for its seafood (its crabcakes in particular) but as I said, it's got a really varied menu and the prices aren't that bad. You all could probably get a big-ass table on one of the decks overlooking the harbor if you call for reservations now.I am about to call and see what they can do. What time are we looking for?
I am about to call and see what they can do. What time are we looking for?
EDIT: I don't think most people would find this (http://www.phillipsseafood.com/locations/menus/PHP%20Dinner%206-22-10.pdf) to be a good price
DOUBLE EDIT: Luckily it's right next to a Hooters :V
Honestly, I second Hooters. We're a rowdy bunch, I'm sure, and it's probably doable to get a bunch of people in. Plus I can slam down shots of their hot sauce and come out thirsty for more. :dragonforce:
No Hooters >=|
Argh. Crap. Is there going to be another fooding get-together or at least an opportunity to hang out after the con and imbibe some choicest malt liquor beverages?Hey, I'm down for whatever whenever and however, just not at Hooters.
No Hooters >=|^^ Plus their food sucks.
I think even I have more taste than a Hooters joint, and I'd prefer not to spend upwards of $30 on dinner alone, forget about tip, tax and drink. I'll be looking myself and I'll see if I can't get someone to recommend us something. In the meantime, would you kindly look for someplace that doesn't cost a week's salary and has more taste than a Hooters?I don't live in Baltimore, I've never been to Baltimore, so I have no idea what I should be looking for. I will, however, do what I can based on the suggestions of others.
EDIT: http://www.picklespub.com/ looks like it might not be so bad as long as there's not a baseball game Thursday night.Baltimore at Kansas City on Thursday at 8:10
That place pickles place doesn't look too bad, I'll just have to remember to leave my Steelers stuff at home. :)
They opened a CaliforniaI've eaten at California Tortilla over the years. It's alright. I prefer Chipotle for similar type of food but that isn't across the street from the convention center. Both are fairly cheap.BurritoTortilla I think it's called, MJP and I ate there alot last year but I have no idea how group friendly it is.
I'm thinking that I'll just find someone to text me whenever he's about to show up, then sneak in. Then sneak out again afterwards.A good plan, I think. I know the masq is important to a lot of people, I know there are a lot of fans of it, and I know there is a little creativity in a couple odd skits, but after going to the one at AB '07 I was totally disgusted with my breed of fandom. The whole con was awkward enough without the masq, which wound up making things even worse.
Well, wherever the rest of you go, I'll be at California Tortilla Thursday night. The chimichangaaaaas are caaaaaaalling for yoouuuuu.
Gotta admit, it's kinda a relief to only be wearing one costume this con. Well, I'll have something for the rave, but it'll be normal clothes mostly.UK is raver. =o
Probably going to be getting in too late for dinner on Thursday oh well.LATE NIGHT FOOD!
I'm old and boring and raves are too loud and crowded for me and my old lady sensibilities.I suppose I'm like that myself. Besides, I'm not legally permitted to dance anymore. Court order. I dance with the power of 5 bad white guys dancing. It's a shame to behold.
LATE NIGHT FOOD!Suits me just fine so long as I EAT. Hell, I made it through a 24 hour stretch with nothing but a couple of stale Pop Tarts and Boston's wonderful tap water on a con Saturday.. Speaking of which, at this time, we have X number of people going to restaurant Y at time Z. Anyone wanna help solidify any of this? Time and place are pretty irrelevant to me.

I'm pretty sure you're being dragged to California Tortilla on Thursday night as well.Come Thursday night, I am going out to eat something other than bread crusts so that I may fuel my body in preparation for 60 hours of time poorly spent on self humiliation, indulgence, and consumerism in a number of activities that I should have purged myself of years ago in order to better my career, bank account, and potentially my girlfriend situation. Full. Stop.
Unless you meant some other meal.
So who's going to California Tortilla again? Are you going as Inu-Sakuya? =<
Are you going as Inu-Sakuya? =<
My current "cosplay" plans consist of strapping Inusakuya's box to my head and carrying her around, but I haven't found a suitable means of keeping her steady inside the box. That was directed more at Reddyne and his avatar, but O_O
No, I was just going to wear Inusakuya on my head.
....oh. =|
Are you going as Inu-Sakuya? =<Certainly not, although if the opportunity were thrust upon me to do so it would be far greater a loss to abstain than to accept.
The weather forecast for Baltimore is pretty amazing.I believe the Germans phrased best when they said "...WAS?" Such wisdom. Also oh boy Red Mage outfit in 100 degree temps. Joy.
Thursday: Isolated thunderstorms
Friday: Sunny
Saturday: Sunny
Sunday: Sunny
Monday: Scattered thunderstorms
Tuesday: Scattered thunderstorms
Thursday: Isolated thunderstormsYou have no idea how much of a blessing this is. We've had weeks straight of ~100F weather. It's going to be perfect for the con.

Saturday: Sunny

Tuesday: Scattered thunderstorms
Oh, you're actually bringing Red Mage? Does that include the fireball, or will the cross take up too much room?RM has GOTTA make it to a major con at least once. With a carrier on the roof of the SUV, we should have enough room.
The weather forecast for Baltimore is pretty amazing.Hells yea! Death to the damned heat wave! :D

Hey I didn't really how OH GOD LEG Meiling's skirt thing is on a human when you start walkingDresses FTW ^_^
It looks like I may have to bail on going altogether due to some very... sudden developments. Not sure yet.D: D: D:
It looks like I may have to bail on going altogether due to some very... sudden developments. Not sure yet.:( :( :(
...You didn't want to try the fighting game's white pants Meiling? My crossplay-hopeful buddy is going to try it that way.Part of Otakon 2010: The Costume selection was in an effort to help me get over body-image issues - logic being making myself wear something I'd otherwise be convinced I'm too fat to wear and realizing no one's pointing and calling me a hambeast will help (this is how I managed to wear shorts this year for the first time since, I dunno middle school?) Of course, this means I need to stay the hell away from the internet right after Otakon when all the trolls come out and then will call me a fatty but details details.
last minute costume disaster ohnoesYeaaaaah I'm doing the last minute costume thing too. I'm probably a bit better at sewing than your friend but I'm still kicking myself for not actually starting China until, uh, Sunday night really? And somehow magically forgot how to sew darts into the skirt for pretty much all of yesterday (yeah all you guys who don't have to worry about darts when they sew to accommodate for girly parts YUP TOTALLY HATE YOU ALL) It's half done at this point at least but I still have a lot of work to do + a prop for my other outfit to make :ohdear:
D: D: D:
The only reason I'm able to go in the first place is because I divorced myself from an all-too abusive workaholic of a boss. Being robbed of such an opportunity must feel like the exact opposite of the excitement I had upon the realization that I could go to Otakon almost guilt-free.
Of course, this means I need to stay the hell away from the internet right after Otakon when all the trolls come out and then will call me a fatty but details details.
People DO THAT? I don't think I've ever seen horribly negative comments on post con pictures like, ever...where do you look for pics o.O?
And yeah 4chan anything, either you're a fatty or a slut pretty much :V
/jp/ and /cgl/ will regularly rip cosplay to shreds.Generally this. /jp/ just hates indiscriminately. /cgl/ feels a bit worse because they've done this stuff before and can hate on anyone that has a life outside of the needle and thread and those who don't have a woodshop and machining room. Plus, in my experience, they're the same type of people that thought they had to wear exclusively Abercrombie and Fitch to fit in. The dumb part of high school all over again. And I STILL hang out with the same 'rejects' that treat everyone like human beings. A rant indeed, but I've gotten more than an earful of this from a friend recently.
But /jp/ and /cgl/ are both filled with the worst kind of people, so. Hell, I think I'd actually rather post cosplay pictures on /jp/, because they don't discriminate. With /cgl/, if it's not perfect, it's terrible. With /jp/, it's just terrible. >_>
Yeaaaaah I'm doing the last minute costume thing too. I'm probably a bit better at sewing than your friend but I'm still kicking myself for not actually starting China until, uh, Sunday night really? Also, LOL fitting really is a pain.I was doing this for my friend since he's inexperienced. Wound up with two days full of despair. Also, yeah, I can imagine darts being a pain. Fitting stuff on my friend was an adventure in and of itself. "How's it fit downstairs?" "Uh, I can't walk." "Alright, I was very careful to hem it so there should be enough room. Just put the zipper in too. Took me an hour plus. How 'bout now?" "I now know where I can store my wallet, food, and any swag I buy." Well what the heck? Not to mention I had to use the wrong pattern for a shirt so I cut the fabric without thinking, stitched it together and had him try on a freshly sewn smock. Not so good.
The Costume selection was in an effort to help me get over body-image issues - logic being making myself wear something I'd otherwise be convinced I'm too fat to wear and realizing no one's pointing and calling me a hambeast will help.WHAH-TEH-VUR. ...Says the one who's in the best shape he's been in since high school cross country, but I dealt with a lot of that when I was a lot heavier. Anyway, most of the guys at the Touhou shoots will be voluntarily disgracing ourselves and getting others to question our sexuality in a heavily populated area and most of us won't care. Just have fun.
See you all there% (http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/403/motherofgod.jpg)
Why does that outfit look so fucking comfortableI'm probably going to get shot for this but: "His 7up NOT EVEN DROP!"
Nice t-shirt for bein' lazy in
Skirt allows easy movement of legs and facilitates air cooling, yet is relatively non-emasculating for a skirt
Getas allow solid footing
Sake dish could hold any number of delicious liquids or foods
Fuck yeah
See you all there% (http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/403/motherofgod.jpg)Don't you feel so creative and like you've accomplished so much more when you do it yourself? Isn't bias tape the best thing for detail work ever?

I should be there around 2 or 3 tomorrow.Yep should be getting into town at around the same time. Just finished packing my gear. Just gotta pack some regular clothes and I'm all set.

I was the Yuyuko with the Sakura branch fans. I have photos of the event taken by a friend of mine who also came. I'll put a few of them on here after I put them on my Deviantart account.

I'm too classy to make a joke about Jews cheering on the killing of the Messiah, so I won't. .
Was it just me or was A) total Touhou cosplayer count way, way up and B) Touhou costume diversity exponentially up? Parsees, the world's only good kigurumi (that Lyrica), Kogasa, etc. etc. etc. Tons more quantity and breadth. I'm okay with this.
Oh hey, you did end up making an account. :3
I have pictures of you holding your uber-cute bag if you want them.
(just went through my camera, 337 pictures total not counting duplicates)
Beat ya by -24ish hours there, champ.
I normally try not to glomp people as I don't like being glomped myself, but damned if they weren't cute as buttons enough to want to hug 'em. :3Eheeheheee~ the other Momiji and I had our picture taken together. ^.^
I saw myself on several of those! :)Hey! I was the white-haired Momiji. Welcome to the forums. ^.^
I got 257 on my camera. Including the dupes. I'm glad you liked that bag. I did too after someone else took my photo with it after throwing it in my lap on Friday. :D
Also, why IS my bag so popular? It got more action than I did!! DX
the three tengu girls
I don't know how to read :o

...wait they didn't even card us it just hit me you know after I was all :ohdear: I MUST GET MY LICENSE TO PROVE I AM NOT A YOUNGIN' :ohdear: after the Touhou panel.Holy~ =O You're right. Glad I tipped the waitress a lot.
Holy~ =O You're right. Glad I tipped the waitress a lot.
Chopped up into 4 videos (for some reason), according to Momiji the video camera was actually passed between Greyn and Chunk somehow or something, not sure what went on with that.WAT T-T nyuuuuu..... we didn't do any such thing. Maybe the record button was getting tapped.
I hope the three tengu girls we kept running into make it over here.
Yeah they were pretty much the cutest thing ever I wish I was in my early teens again so I could be that adorable :3
Not like I would have wanted them to screw with, say, the pre-reg system or something, but this just feels like a cheap shot.
And thus it was an unprecedented dairy affair.
I drove nearly 800 miles this weekend. Like, 799.8 miles.
I'm a little tired, and I'll write more later, but this was pretty sweet. Especially the concert today, I know more lyrics of their's than I should.

YOUR STATE SUCKS
IT SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS
It probably wasn't as much "4chan" as much as "some random dumb-asshat who may or may not post on 4chan." Big difference.
Jersey sucks balls (http://www.pooshlmer.com/wakaba/res/459610.html#460705).
It's my understanding that there's actually no difference at all between those two, as /b/ is comprised of random dumb-asshats. Unless there's some secret 4chan cabal that dreams up such imaginative and sinister pranks as "pull the fire alarm".
From what I understand, 4chan's "big plan" was also a troll, and wound up being a few people standing around and taking pictures before leaving.
I don't even know.
Oh, wait, they're all about Justin Bieber now or something, right?
I find it a lot of fun to compare the Otakon discussion here with the Otakon discussion on Poosh.Yeah, it's working really well so far.

I find it a lot of fun to compare the Otakon discussion here with the Otakon discussion on Poosh.
Here: "Oh, I had a lot of fun, it was great meeting you guys, woohoo"
Poosh: "PURGE THE UNBELIEVERS! REAL TOUHOU FANS ONLY!"
Trolls used to be less obvious than this (http://www.pooshlmer.com/wakaba/res/459610.html#460811), once upon a time, didn't they?for a second I thought you linked to my profile
Ok I live in a bubble - is there a Reader's Digest version of why this message board seems to be hated by the Pooshimerwhatjamacallit one?
I mean you guys are so chill and nice I don't get why all the hate...?
Suzuran FTMFW \o/
People who are not even Poosh regulars are trolling the Poosh regulars (who, admittedly, haven't had a good trolling since Betty's '09 trolling blowout), and then blaming the subsequent "Poosh sucks" on the regulars.
Something about this does not make the faintest bit of sense.
I say this because I am still very much partial to the imageboard. That's where I got my start, after all. And I really don't think emnity between us and those folks is good for the Touhou fandom, one way or the other, so I would like to see this poor excuse for trolling cease. Suzuran's too coherent to be a good troll, anyway.
Perhaps SANTA CLAUS will come on to town early now :VHo~ho~hoooo~

Hello everyone! I'm, uh, new here but I do believe I met a good lot of you at the con. I was the man!Mokou with the white hair who didn't know anyone. Meeting and spending time with everyone was really great, and I'd like to thank the China who told me about the photoshoots. (I think it was triangles, right?)
Anyway, I hope to get along with you all in the future~ <3

Hello everyone!Hi there! I was the white-haired Momiji walking around with Mima and company. Welcome to the forum. ^.^
I think I'd like to get in on that room. Alittle more expensive than my room I had minus the ~1 hour round trip, do want! :D
I remember seeing you a few times, I was that guy who was trying to find Kilga at the end. Hope to see you next year.
Having free internet is a big plus, by the way, I payed $13 for just 24 hours of service. ><

I think I remember you! You were at the Saturday photoshoot too, right?Indeed.
Hilton was cheaper, but no free wifi and no fridges :T

Welcome! I was my namesake as well as the other Yumemi on sat morning. :V

Hi yes that was me, welcome :3
I totally understand not knowing anyone - last year I "met everyone" at the Touhou shoot and wandering around in costume but it wasn't until joining the forums when I got back I really got to know people and now a year later it was all SUP GUYS WHAT UP all con long!
Warning - while you were typing 5,234,098 new replies have been posted. You may wish to review your post.Well, pants.
My hotel sucked, I ended up getting one late, and about 20 minutes out of the way in Laurel. At least it wasn't a fleabag inn.
It sucks that I had to go right back to work the next day... and made me realize further how much after Cons blow..... Especially going through so many photos hoping to put up anything someone would like seeing.
Gotta get in somewhere close next year dude. :(

If you go as Yuugi again you can expect another donation towards booze from me. Just don't tell the Shrine Maidens or they might come to shake me down. :]
Laurel, Maryland. The hotel was about 10 minutes from I-95, which I took to get there. It took 10-15 minutes to get to Baltimore from that point.
But all's good. I was able to get there and back safely. That's what was important.
Yeah, I remember you. Did you find him?I didn't, but I was starting to feel pretty tired. It was kinda like that the whole con, gettin tired early, my sleep schedule got turned on it's head. @_@;
I remember you, I'm one of the guys with Momiji and Mima. I was the one that asked if you would be able to pull your pockets out for that pose in the photoshoot. It was nice meeting you.
@Ryuu: Oh hai, I was the random Mikuru at the Friday and Saturday touhou shoots

paragraphfsking verification ate my goddamn post what the hell is that for
I'd be on IRC but my connection here for some reason has trouble keeping me on my other channel already. As far as I am aware cirno is working as she should be and nobody is having any problems connecting; If you can't get connected bother me with it and I'll see if I can get you sorted out.
I had a blast, and it just makes me sad that I'll be missing it next year :<
I'll just have to be there in SPIRIT!!!
Uh, hi.
I lurk here every so often but I figured I'd make an actual account.
Otakon was a lot of fun. Panel was a blast despite having my hoopskirt poking me the entire time.
Reddyne is the PRETTIEST GIRL AT THE BALL.
It was cool meeting everyone at the Friday shoot. I wasn't able to make it to the Saturday or Sunday shoots, because Saturday I was too busy with my Pokeymans and Sunday I was trolling the entire Diigmon fandom with one of my bros.
But hopefully I'll see everyone next year.
The pronunciation is SEAR-NOH, if you got a problem with that then you, me, outside in 361 days.
The captchas should only appear once or twice, as I recall.
I still haven't washed my costumes :V
Don't wash them yet. Wrap them around your pillows, so that for the next few days, you can go to sleep with the sweet aroma of thousands of giddy anime/video game fans all around you, like an invisible cloud of Essence d'Otaku.
I still haven't washed my costumes :V
It's a problem with my internet connection, which is perfectly normal otherwise, not the server.Entirely probable, but the thing is, I'm paying for a server so that anyone who wants to use it can do so. It bothers me if someone wants to come play but can't, it makes me feel I'm not getting what I'm paying for. The server listens on a few different ports, and you mention having problems staying on another server, so maybe if I peek at things and/or you try a few other ports maybe we can suss out what's going on and find something you can call your ISP with, which would kill two birds with one stone. In any event, this situation should bother you too - You're paying for access to the whole internet, not just parts of it. You aren't getting what you're paying for. I'd be somewhat unhappy if I were you.
My costume's hang-drying right now, had to clean the Sangria out of the dress. XD
What, you [i[don't[/i] want to smell like fruity chick drinks for next year there Santa? :VIt doesn't even smell like anything. =<

Oh ok well next year during Drink O'Clock we'll make sure Mima's staff knocks over TWO drinks onto your outfit that'll work right?Oshit o_o That means we'll get even more stalkers than we did this year. They're attracted to the scent of alcohol.
@Reddyne: I wish I made that outfit. The only work I did on it was conning people into listening to someone blab about ADT and try to sell it to them so I could get the money for the commission. That thing cost me $350.:V Well, at least you had fun with it, yeah?
I still haven't washed my costumes :VI'm always petrified that mine will self-destruct if I do so. Some more than others. Red Mage is a wool blend that frays like mad. Don't know what I'd wind up with if it went into the wash.
My costume's hang-drying right now, had to clean the Sangria out of the dress. XDI'd rather smell like Baily's Irish cream or Kahlua. Of course, that would probably mean I was pressured into drinking something with alcohol. Not a good idea.

Again, you gotta wear your Youki mooore. :(
Also love the quality of these pictures, they're great. Didn't get to chat so much this year but you seemed to be even busier this year than last.
If you're talking about the first Otakon panel a few years ago...
-- Jerry/Youki/Mokou
Oh, so you finished Mokou pretty quickly. It looks good too! Planning on bringing that to ACen next time? ;)
I'm actually talking about the first Touhou panel I saw at a midwest con. I don't know a thing about Otakon history, but I'm sure I heard another Touhou panel described similarly... Was it a past Anime North one?
The ACen one run by Benny the next year (last year) was miraculous by comparison.

I was only at Otakon for Saturday and Sunday because it was impossible for me to get to Otakon on Friday... I was at the Touhou photoshoot on Saturday.I think I've seen about a half dozen people from the con new to the boards now. What horrors have we wrought upon these people? Dragging these people into a den of man-children, shut-ins, and other degenerates investing their free time in discussing matters around a single obscure video game series.
man-children, shut-ins, and other degenerates
I don't think a single new member joined because of me or Jan going to ACen :ohdear: Apparently our recruiting skills are not up to snuff.

I won't miss ACen next year for sure though, I always regret it.

Actually if someone can post the logs I kinda want to see it. I never go into IRC because I live in a bubble but I am curious!
Also Is it bad that I kinda sorta already want to start working on NEXT YEAR'S TOUHOU COSPLAY ADVENTURE?
...
...
...it probably is right?
Did I mention that I had so much fun this year :toot: like best Otakon ever territory? Because it's true!
I didn't see anyone with a tripod in the audience so doubt theres going to be anything but shaky cam stuff for the panel anyway.

Everyone looked really good, from the photos I've seen. I'm curious about that Parsee that seemed to be hanging around Kilga in a few photos, though. Who was this person? Was this person invited here?
... Alright, forget I asked then.
Just dicking around with you. :D
I only remember having either two Parsees or no Parsees around me at basically all times. Which one are you talking about? o_O
This one. (http://www.pooshlmer.com/wakaba/res/461036.html#461178)
This was my first con and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. Though hell for the staff, the fire alarm thing sure made things more interesting. Plus the photo shoot was awesome~ Would have been nice to see a Shikieiki (sp?) there but a friend of mine couldn't make it...hell I almost couldn't make it...got a few hundred dollars helping out at a friends house, though, so I had enough.
I just wish Otakon was a day longer really...or at least Sunday was longer. I had to wait at the train station at the BWI Airport for 4 hours for my train, and THEN it got delayed half an hour. Ugh...well at least my friend was there for a couple hours, and I got to play a PSP again X3
Next year I'll cosplay, but I'm not sure what yet...was THINKING Henry from No More Heroes...or at least what he looks like in the sequel. I was really surprised to see a Travis Touchdown cosplayer (or two? I couldn't tell if it was the same guy), but not a Henry...or hell even a Silvia or Shinobu...
Yeah, there was definitely another guy who had the look down better.
What about /d/egenerates, Reddyne ;)?Oh, I saw part one of Legend of the Overfiend Friday night. /d/ in animation form. My curiosity dragged me there and I now wish my curiosity would shut its mouth.
Yo where do I fit in there champ :VLadytypes are logical anomalies by default!
You left out all the guys who wish to be the little girl. Why not? Although some of the most awesome people in the world are TV. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2009/sep/15/eddie-izzard-charity-run)
Also Is it bad that I kinda sorta already want to start working on NEXT YEAR'S TOUHOU COSPLAY ADVENTURE?If I'm ever to pull off Touhouvania Meiling, I'll need to start now. A duster/cheongsam with more detail than I want to think about. The dragons alone make me shudder. You could always be done EARLY.
Try wearing an outfit that's slit up to nyaaaaah that seems to have worked this time!Speaking of which, I don't seem to garner much more than transient encounters with strangers, even with the souped-up level of social exposure I've been doing at my last 2 cons. I don't think a lot of ANY exposure has garnered much of anything for me though. Doesn't mean it's not fun, though! SUP-PAAAAAHH TENKOOOHHH!
When I found this guy, he was at the Anime Sekai booth buying chibi moe figures, so... it kind of helped his image.Yeah but the other guy even had a Pure White Lover Bizarre Jelly t-shirt on. I loved how he posed for the pictures...he did the whole "recharge" pose and it was so awesomely awesome xD
Hi~Yaaay!!! I'm the other Momiji. Welcome to the forum. ^.^
Yaaay!!! I'm the other Momiji. Welcome to the forum. ^.^
It's female Momiji from Otakon. Y'know, the one with the Tengu Trio.Hi, I'm Man-Medicine.
Hooray for Mankou!
ahahahahaha I said it :ohdear:
I'm already looking up ways to do my Mokou cosplay less wrong and pricing materials, so you're not alone. O-Ohohoho
You are a far far braver person than I. I'm like YUP THE WIG OUTTA THE BAG FROM EBAY IS WHAT I'M USING.
Sunday's Oregon Trail cosplay was my favorite.I remember seeing that one on Saturday when I was in the Artist Alley with a friend I met down there. They were pretty damn good xD And I liked how they were doing the whole Monty Python and the Holy Grail thing with the coconut halves xD
Hi~

MORE ACTUAL FEMALES ARE WELCOME
Are you guys all friends IRL? If so, you gotta get that Hatate all knowledge'd up and on here!
Hello~ I'm the man!Mokou that was in line with you lot at the panel. Glad to see you joined. : D
BlazikenOwns (female Momiji) and I decided that we should be the three mischievous fairies for Katsucon and next year's Otakon. She will be Sunny Milk and buy her costume online, and I will make my own Luna Child cosplay. It would be perfect if we got our Hatate to be Star Sapphire, but she already have other ideas and we doubt that we are going to convince her to be Star Sapphire. You see, we had a really good friend who moved to Georgia state this summer and we really miss her. The good thing though, is that she will go to Otakon next year and we get to see her again! My friend Hatate wants to be someone from Kuroshitsuji rather than Touhou so she can make my friend in Georgia state more happy.Awesome. I can't wait to see your Fairies' cosplay next time around! It's too bad Hatate isn't into Touhou more, her cosplay was really good.
Oh heyyyy. You probably heard me, female Aya with the hat, screaming at my phone in the corner at the line to the panel. That was because it was too loud around me and my mom was asking me what time I was coming home and she couldn't her me. So... I HOPE MY SCREAMING DIDN'T MAKE ANYONE WANT TO PASS OUT OR ANYTHING...
Ayayayayayayaaaa
Awesome. I can't wait to see your Fairies' cosplay next time around! It's too bad Hatate isn't into Touhou more, her cosplay was really good.
...wait, are you guys actually in the Otakon area? =o
That reminds me, I should start planning my next con. At least, register for something and actually go to it.
I should look into more cons, too. I don't wanna wait for Otakon next year.Anime USA (http://www.animeusa.org/) (Nov. 12-14, in DC), Katsucon (http://www.katsucon.org/) (Feb. 18-20, in DC), Zenkaikon (http://www.zenkaikon.com/) (Mar 18-20, in Philadelphia), to name a few around Baltimore/DC area.
I should look into more cons, too. I don't wanna wait for Otakon next year.Katsucon was good since it balanced the feel of bigger and smaller cons quite well. If you can, make it to Anime Boston. Maybe I'm gushing because it's my home con, but I've loved it all 4 years I've gone. I prefer the atmosphere a bit more than Otakon, and the good panels are allowed to run over 1 hour. Not to mention, Boston is my favorite town on the map. Lots of good places to eat around the con and the transit system, while old, is a boon to anyone not staying at the pricier hotels right in downtown. Best way to beat traffic, too.
I'm still on the fence about what I want to make for next year, I have a tendancy to change my mind and settle on something with less than a month to go (like, this year's China costume!) but there's two characters that I've had my eye on for a while but the props intimidated me. Maybe I'll start in advance on the props so I'll be committed! What would the props be? Chances are, if you've got garage space, you have the basic resources required. After that, it's tools and construction methods. There are a lot of little ways to be clever with what you're making when it comes to props, too.

Re: cons,
My local con is Anime NEXT in New Jersey which happens usually the 3rd weekend of June or so, I'm not sure how "good" it is as I've been on staff since 2007 and thus don't see much beyond my department's stuff. But hey it's super close to my house so I'm biased.
Maybe, though. I need to save up some more money. ...and learn how to make cosplay better.Practice is all it takes =) Talk to other cosplayers for pointers, too.
TigerconI was going to attend last year, but didn't make it. Also, I heard it isn't scheduled 'till sometime in the early spring now. I wouldn't mind going, since it's literally 10 minutes from the house.

We the tengu trio
We the tengu trio live only, like, 40-70ish minutes from Baltimore. We live in northern VA where it is really close to DC.
Katsucon is going to be in February. I am going to buy my ticket there at the door, because I am not positive that I can attend. Its not during the summer when I have full free time. It would be wild if I skipped Friday off from school just to go to Katsucon, derp.
I second the vote for Katsu for anyone even remotely close to the DC area - the two years I've been, the con has been extremely well-run (in spite of the monster snowfall we got right before the con, the only thing that got delayed were physical badges, and that's only because the FedEx plane ran off the end of the runway, from what I understand). The facility is fantastic (better than even ACen's, and far superior to the BCC).
nice, I'm NoVA too I live in Loudoun though so theres like nothing to do...ever...
Fuuuu---- I live in Loudoun too! Right on the edge of Fairfax. Its weird that I've bumped into more people who live in Loudoun than I've expected...
You live in Alexandria? You have no bloody excuse to not attend AUSA, it's right there. >_>yeah it really is right there, you could just get a day pass since the con is small so they still offer single day passes.

I'll just use the same excuse I used last year when you said the same thing. <_<Edible works for the CIA, can't be seen going to some local animu/crossplaying convention, he'll lose his credentials.
Yeah I'm in Sterling, and wait theres more people in Loudoun??

It's a pity I'm all the way over up in Oregon, or else I'd definitely be up for bugging you people over at them other cons. You move to the east coast maaaaaan. East coast is best coast maaaan!
Sterling? Me too!Augh... everyone either lives way the hell away or kinda-sorta-maybe-somewhat-close-driving-distance to Baltimore. But no-one actually lives here, except some random person on #sm who I hardly talk to, and don't even remember their name. Gah!

Wait, does that mean you're not doing AUSA?I dunno. Ask my boss whether she will let me or if things will be too busy 2.5 months from now. Or ask if my potential boss will buy out my temporary worker contract and get me started early on a project engineer position. I PLAN on going, but the powers-that-be will ultimately control whether or not will be able to. The only reason I got to go to Otakon was because I quit my previous job. I had plenty of PTO, but I was about to be robbed of my time off because the other doctor working with me was quitting herself. A rather nifty coincidence that I submitted my letter of resignation less than 48 hours after she did. Oh, the faces my former boss made!
You move to the east coast maaaaaan. East coast is best coast maaaan!
We could most likely shack you up for KatsuCon, considering my room last year was just Reddyne, Solamarle and me, and I don't think we'll be adding anyone to that unless Mefidex goes. That'd be awesome. Just let us know which way the plans solidify, and if we can stay how much our share of the room would be.
AUSA...it would depend on whether or not Reddyne can get the time off, because I don't think we can jam 8 into a 4-person room given how many of those 8 are cosplayers.
Hahaha. No. You will never catch me entering Gibson's Sprawl willingly. I'm a left-coast radical.I've noticed that as far as cons go, there is this great divide between west and east coasts. It seems to me you've got quite the crowd stretching up and down the US and extending into Mooseland. Then 2500 miles of nothing except for poor Ruro and UK floating about in this sea of purgatory out in the middle of nowhere. After that, it's pretty clear to me that the east coast crowd is rather well defined. It's kinda disappointing because there's no simple way to traverse the gap.
:D
Edit: California can go to hell (ie, the place between coasts) too.
That'd be awesome. Just let us know which way the plans solidify, and if we can stay how much our share of the room would be.I'll try and test the waters a bit before asking for the time off about a month in advance. I'd really like to go, but I don't want to bite the hand that feeds, either. It's a very nice hand, too. Still, cosplay shouldn't be too much of a worry this time as I'd rather not wear out any costume before I care to and the two plans I have for next year will need to wait a bit since I was robbed of my sewing machine by my own flesh and blood. Hence, I'll have one good sized hunk of luggage that could fit two costumes at best. No cross, sword, or fire/ice spell. I don't mind sleeping on the floor in the corner of the room so long as no one decides to play hopscotch on my face, either.
...I might just get a room so if Kilga's room is overcrowded I could probably use the roommates.Cool, I'll keep you in mind. \o/
I'm on the East Coast Reddyne. AnUSA is only about 50ish miles from me. Otakon maybe 80 or 100 (I don't know that one as well). But, I live in Virginia so I'm not QUITE in the miasma of nothingness :P.Wot?! So then your goings-on 6 months ago were naught but a sham?
The first comparison I thought of involved the anode and cathode used in electrolysis with scant few ions left in between. Stupid nerd.More like a giant CRT, and Baltimore/DC is the shadow mask. Or is it an aperture grille....
My going-ons 6 months ago reached an unexpected conclusion that involved me remaining here. For better or for worse. Still am not sure.W- whaa?
