Title: Puzzle challenge once more!
Post by: Pesco on May 05, 2011, 09:29:46 AM
Iku Ichirin Nitori Sanae Komachi Yamame

Unlock the sequence of these names. Explanations for your answer would be nice to have too.

First correct answer gets an IH upgrade, normals get to become IP and IP get to beome IM.

Do I lose anything if I participate?
YOU WILL NOT FOOL ME AGAIN.

Whatever.

Ichi(一)rin 1
Ni(二)tori 2
San(三)ae 3
Komachi, associated with death(死). (四) 4
I(一)ku(九) 19

Can't think of anything for Yamame.

Since I'm an IM, it doesn't really matter either way, does it?

Only Dormio may lose something for spamming wrong answers.

:ohdear: Don't you know power level discussions are forbidden?
I suggest we arrange them by bust size.

Counting in Japanese?

Ichi - rin [1]
Ni - tori [2]
San -ae [3]
Komachi*
Yamame**
I - ku (similar to "Kyuu") [9]

* Either [4] or [5]
- 4: Related to death or something
- 5:  (similar to "Go")

** Either [7] or [8]
- 7: Ya - mame (similar to "nana")
- 8: Spiders got 8 legs? I dunno.

(Romanized numbers stolen shamelessly from Wiki)

EDIT: goddammit Dormio

San(三)ae 3
Komachi, associated with death(死). (四) 4
Yamame, spiders have eight legs. 8
I(一)ku(九) 19

Answer #1: 8-9-10.

Why?

Yamame. Ya = 8
Iku. Ku = 9
Sanae and Komachi. 3 x 4 = 12. Minus Nitori. 12 - 2 = 10.

Yeah w/e

======================================
Answer #2: Flying.

Why? I I N S K Y.

I IN SKY.

======================================
Answer #3: Elemental or natural affinities.

Iku + Ichirin = Thunderclouds
Nitori + Sanae = Water and Wind, which oppose each other.
Komachi + Yamame = One lives on the "surface", the other lives underground.

======================================
Answer #4: SIKI K-Y

Make of that what you will.

======================================
Miscellanea:
Working with which games they came from, that's 10.5, 12, 10, 10, 9, and 11 respectively.
As for which stages, that's 5, 3, 3, 5, 8, and 1 respectively. (based on Reimu's experiences, anyway)

Working off those number guesses, I may have hit something.

I(一)ku, 1.
Ichi(一)rin, 1.
Ni(二)tori, 2.
San(三)ae, 3.
Ko(こ -> ご)machi, 5.
Ya(八)mame, 8.

Yep, it's the Fibonacci sequence!  The next number would be 13, which is jyu-san. (十三)  But since I don't know any touhous with that in their name I'll just say it's for Ten Desires.

Ooh, grats.
This one was solved pretty fast.

And it's not like I get anything from winning this challenge.
Though, yeah, I wouldn't have gotten the Fibonacci thing.

How did I not think of that :V

Y'all gave me a good lead - I probably wouldn't have even started thinking of numbers unless you guys pointed out the obvious ichi-ni-san thing.  I was initially thinking of things to do with their characters :V

now we know pesco's secret of using jappo in his puzzles so it took a few days less than the last one
Which in turn screws us mere mortals out of participating in these puzzles.
Still fun to watch the back-and-forth, though.
