OUR RULES:
1) This is a friendly community!
- No killing other players without prior consent.
- No breaking, altering, or otherwise messing with other players' stuff.
- No stealing from other players.
2) Keep our spawn clean!
- Please refrain from building "poverty art", or intentionally unsightly structures, in high-traffic public areas, such as spawn.
- For Old World: A Donation Hall has been created for donation chests. Alternatively, the community centre NE of spawn (large rectangular stone building) has a section for donations and unneeded stuff. But outside those two, no beggar's chests!
- For New World: I'm still pending a decision on this.
3) Keep it manageable for everyone else!
- Do not place very laggy projects (such as mob grinders/arenas, enormous redstone clocks, etc.) near spawn areas. This was an issue at one point on the last server.
- Limit 4 shopkeepers per player around spawn areas. Outside those, feel free to use them however you like.
- Control your fire and especially your TNT usage, particularly on Creative worlds. I know that detonating an entire landscape of TNT can be fun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXgJLsyrdfA), but honestly, I don't want to be forced into a situation where server stability is at stake.
- In the event laggy dupers (eg. BSoD's classic piston-based sand duper) ever make a comeback, make sure to keep an eye out when using them. We don't want to see 18 million items on the ground due to someone AFKing next to one with a full inventory, after all.
4) You are more than welcome to contact me for any of the following services:
- Setting warps (see below)
- Changing an area's biome - provided it looks somewhat like the target biome (if not, start terraforming) and it isn't too close to others' property. Nether and End biomes will not be accepted due to ghasts and the jarring sky transition, respectively.

HOW TO JOIN:
This server is whitelisted, meaning that you have to be on the whitelist to play on it.

To join the whitelist, simply PM me with the subject "MC Server Whitelist", remembering to include your MC user name -and- player UUID (tool to find that) (https://forums.bukkit.org/threads/tool-mineuuid-find-out-your-minecraft-uuid.187571/). I will send a response when you are added. This assumes you are involved with the forum community, #conmeido, or a third unrelated-but-Touhou-themed IRC channel that I frequent.

If you joined merely for this server, then I will most likely deny your request and encourage you to participate in the community a bit longer.

Also I discourage using the e-mail button in my signature for this enquiry.

Players who were on the whitelist on Stuffman's previous server as of 3 March 2013 will need no further steps to play.

PLUGIN BASE;
Minecraft v1.8 with Spigot (http://www.spigotmc.org/threads/read-first-about-spigot.3/). Survival mode on main worlds; Creative is also provided.
Plugins in use:
 - BlockEnderDragon Prevents the enderdragon from griefing blocks on all worlds.
 - Craftbook: Adds a number of custom functions to the vanilla game.
 - CustomItems: Permits the creation of custom-attribute items.
 - DeathMessages: Allows for custom death messages.
 - dynmap: Enables the Live Map linked above.
 - Dynmap-WorldGuard: Shows WorldGuard-protected regions on dynmap.
 - Essentials: Provides a wide variety of utility commands.
 - LogBlock: Logs all changes to blocks and chests. Anti-griefing tool.
 - LWC (Lightweight Chest Protection): Allows you to lock your chests, furnaces, doors, etc to stop people from stealing your stuff.
 - Multiverse: Allows us to have multiple worlds. The NetherPortals (adjustable Nether + End portal destinations) and Inventories (separates inventories by worlds and world groups, as well as gamemodes) sub-plugins are also in use.
 - NoWither: Blocks withers from spawning in main worlds; to fight them, go to Adventure Worlds, Nethers, or Ends.
 - PermissionsBukkit: Controls access to other plugins.
 - PlayerHeads: Mobs and players have chances to drop heads on kill, or even when just dying. Go make your head trophy racks! :V
 - RecipeManager: Allows us to create custom recipes.
 - Shopkeepers: Lets players create shops which can assist in exchanges.
 - TerrainControl: Controls the terrain generator on worlds using this plugin.
 - TreeAssist: Trees chopped with gold axes will cut themselves automatically. This does not always work, but when it does, it makes forestry a much easier affair.
 - WorldBorder: Limits the sizes of worlds, and lets admins generate and trim their chunks. Latter is only used during downtimes.
 - WorldEdit: Allows ops to make large-scale edits to the map. Contact us if you'd like to make a request, but you'd better have a good reason!
 - WorldGuard: Provides various protections to players and the map. Also provides the scuba functions for pumpkins.

WORLD CONFIGURATION:
We employ 4 different worldsets with varying rules and separate inventories. Warp names are given. Each aside from Exhibition has its own Nether and End - in survival-type worlds these are tied to Adventure Worlds and thus are temporary.

NEW WORLDS
Survival, not much else.
Newworld - 8192 x 8192, 1.8 terrain. The new main world.
World_adv2 - 4096 x 4096, custom terrain.  Refreshes regularly, making them good for mining but not for living.

OLD WORLDS
Same rules as New; however, one minor difference is that lava fires will not spread here. This was a setting enacted by the previous admins that I was afraid to change, but it is enabled in New worlds.
Oldworld - 8192 x 8192, 1.2.5-1.4.7 terrain. A staple of the server since mid-2012 that still goes strong.
World_adv1 - 4096 x 4096, custom terrain. Same idea as AdvWorld 2, but it is for the old world inventory

CREATIVE WORLDS
Creative gamemode. No mobs or animals spawn; Nether and End are disabled. You can teleport yourself to any coordinate set within world boundaries.
Creative - 8192 x 8192, 1.7.2 terrain.
World_flat - 3200 x 3200, superflat. The historical popular site for art projects, and another location where lava fires were disabled.

EXHIBITION WORLDS
Adventure Mode. Tourism purposes only.
Museum - The MC History Museum has moved from Flat to here!

ESSENTIALS COMMANDS:
/afk - Marks as AFK. Removed upon moving a few blocks, modifying an area, or opening chests.
/compass - gives you the direction you're facing.
/depth - gives you your current depth/height in the world.
/fly - lets you fly in MC Creative Mode fashion. Limited to main and flat worlds. Make sure to land before you disconnect or change worlds, or prepare to take fall damage!
/getpos - give you your current coordinates in the world.
/help - gives you a full list of all the commands you have access to.
/ignore - lets you ignore the text of people you don't like.
/list - lists everyone currently on the server.
/mail - lets you send and check messages from other players.
./me - use this to emote an action, i.e. /me makes yet another Gwahaha + CotBS abomination of a meal
/motd - displays the MotD.
/msg - lets you send a private message to another player. Use /r to quickly respond to someone that just messaged you.
/near - lists nearby players.
/realname - tells you the real username of a player that has a nickname (indicated by a ~ in front of their name). Only ops can set nicknames, ask us if you want one.
/seen - tells you when a player was last online.
/spawn - teleports you to spawn in the main world.
/tppos <x> <y> <z> - (Creative worlds only!) Teleport yourself to a set of coordinates you put in.
/home <name> - teleports you to your home position. Specifying a name will take you to that home, if you previously set it.
/sethome <name> - saves your current position as one of your homes. If no name is given, then it'll take you to standard home.
/delhome <name> - deletes a specified home.
/warp - provides a list of all warp points available. Use /warp warp_name to warp to teleport to that warp point.
/recipe <item> - check the (stock) recipe for an item, if it is available. /recipe without an item will check one for the item you are holding. It does not take into account custom recipes added by RecipeManager for odd reasons.

LWC BASICS:
When you use an LWC command, you'll be asked to hit the chest you want to apply the command to. Protected chests can't be destroyed by anyone but the person that made them.
/cprivate - use this to create a private chest. Only you (and ops) can open it.
/cpassword - use this to create a chest with a password. Anyone that knows the password can access it.
/cremove - removes protections from the chest.
/cmodify - allows one to change the permissions of something you own. For instance, '/cmodify -Yukari @Ran' would remove Yukari's access rights, while adding them to Ran.
/cdonation - set a chest to be a donation chest, in which users can only add contents but not take them.

LWC protections can also be applied to trapdoors, doors, signs, and several other things. If a protected item is on a block (eg. sign on dirt, block beneath door), that block too will be protected.

LOGBLOCK BASICS:
There are two tools that will allow you to see Logblock data.
/lb tool - right-click a block with the Logblock tool (in our case, a stick) to see its history.
/lb toolblock - place a toolblock (in our case, the command block) in a space to see its history. The command block cannot be placed on its own (plus editing them is blocked anyway).
History is logged up to 180 days.

CRAFTBOOK INFORMATION:
Craftbook is a versatile plugin allowing for a number of functions. I have allowed the use of the following portions:
- Ammeter: Shows the strength of a redstone connection. Interact with a wire with coal in hand.
- Better Plants: Extends the functions of stock plants, including fern farming.
- Bookcase: Interacting with bookshelves will give you a random quote. Purely aesthetic and it uses stock settings for the quotes.
- Chairs: Place at least one sign on any set of stairs to make it a chair you can sit in. Press RMB/M2 to sit down, and sneak to dismount.
- Dispenser Recipes: More options from dispensers. See the Craftbook page (http://wiki.sk89q.com/wiki/CraftBook/Dispenser_Recipes).
- Minecart boosters/brakes: Extends railway options. See the Craftbook page (http://wiki.sk89q.com/wiki/CraftBook/Minecart_Speed_Modifier_Blocks).
- Lightstone: Shows the current light level in an area. Interact with a block with glowstone dust in hand.
- Painting Switcher: An easier way to get the painting you want. Right-click a placed painting to select it, use the scroll wheel to scroll through your options, and then right-click again to confirm your selection.
- Sign Copier: Right-clicking a sign with an ink sack copies the sign's contents. Left-click another sign to paste them on.
- XP storage: Converts your XP to Bottles of Enchanting. Interact with any spawner.

Wood type does not matter. The new slabs require a pickaxe to be mined. Despite the purple chequerboard appearance in the inventory, it will still appear normally as a block.

Wither Skulls cannot be made this way - go hunting! Other mob heads can also drop (with a 1% chance by default), and will be also sold at admin stores.

Much like the last server, a warp shrine (pictured above) must be built without flaws for a warp to be built. Once done, let an admin know, and they will verify then finalise a warp point (and dynmap marker) for you. This is valid in main world only.

The ingredients:
- 1 diamond block
- 4 iron blocks
- 36 endstone
- 32 obsidian
- 9 glowstone
- 4 netherrack (you may omit the flames on the netherrack if you have fire safety concerns)
- 2 or 4 signs (with the name of the warp inscribed on them)

You do not need to fill in the areas that cannot be seen. For an example, see the one in Flat World.

Current warp points and their owners:
spawn - Spawn in the main world.
world_flat - Center of world_flat.
Ahreynn (Rikter) - A desert town near the bottom of the map.
Aria (Sunny) - A future reproduction of the town Neo-Venezia from Aria on a huge grassy island in the southwest ocean.
Boxtower (Shady) - A tower aiming to use whatever blocks are possible, complete with villager overloads.
Desert (HakureiSM) - The desert just north of Spawn, next to a colosseum.
Desert_Villa (Stuffman) - A house on an eastern desert island, under construction.
EPTower (EP) - Large tower made back in the PTM server days of B1.7.3.
Farmland (NegaZero) - A wool centre in his snowy abode.
Hakutown (Sparda primarily) - A large town to the south with buildings owned by many players, well known for its huge walls. Probably the busiest part of the server outside spawn.
Houraiville (HangedHourai) - A mostly cosmetic town in the plains far to the east.
Infernal (Exuro) - The Infernal Republic, a fortress on the desert beach furthest to the north.
Lemuria (puremrz) - A forested and underwater ruin, under excavation.
MobArena (EP) - An underground obsidian room with light control fixtures, a perfect place to fight for mob drops, alleviate boredom, give a challenge, etc. Turn the lights off for the spawning to begin - make sure to turn them back on though!
Muenzuka (Sparda, formerly Stuffman) - Formerly a Castlevania project, this castle in progress symbolises a growing Austria-Hakurei-Moriya empire.
Moriya City (Sparda) - Future site of Moriya City, on a mountainous island.
Knoxville (Cadmas) - A huge, snowy city of stone in the rolling icy plains at the southeast corner of the map.
Shazbot (EP, formerly Alpha) - An enormous fortress occupying an entire island in the northeast ocean. Project left on indefinite hold.
Shephills (Cadmas?) - Pasture area consisting of lots of sheep in a spread-out village, complete with grass-roof houses.
Spire (yoshicookiezeus) - An arena built over the ocean, awaiting future PVP events.
SkyCity (Athrel) - A city under construction upon a gigantic flying stone slab above the southwest ocean.
Tanuki (puremrz) - A lovely scenic area with a high school nearby on the northwest continent.
Undine (???) - An underwater city project under construction.
Wilyfort (EP, formerly Dr.Strafe) - A giant floating fortress reminiscent of Megaman 2.
Worldship (Rikter) - A UFO-like flying garden above the west ocean.
WumboMelons (Dr. Rawr) - A truly breathtaking land, made entirely of melons, poised in the sky above the mushroom island in the west ocean. Also the warp is 9x larger than a normal one. :V

May have goofed up with AdvWorld 2 since I am not seeing trees or ores in the immediate area. If that is the case for further areas then I may close it and make a new one.

I'd try joining, but the recent removal of my back 4 teeth (Yaaay, wisdom teeth...) is kinda taking up the use of my hands. Look forward to playing again though.

Good to see that we're up and running again. The server is in good hands.  :)

To clarify on that experience pearl compensation effort I was contemplating: I still needed to do some SCIENCE with the /xp command to see if it gives people whole levels, or just individual experience points. Either way, I was planning on having people turn in their loaded pearls and I would have compensated them the total number of levels therein, as well as return the empty pearls to them. A fair amount of legwork, with somewhat liberal use of  /xp and creative mode. Much like the Music Disc exchange setup I had done earlier. The demand for the exchanges would wane over time.

As for my WilyFort, that project has been moved offline and will continue to be constructed in SSP. I am in the process of implementing resources from IndustrialCraft and BuildCraft into the structure. :3 Anyway, feel free to plunder anything/everything from the existing WilyFort on the server, as I don't plan on working on the online version anymore. No sense in having parallel versions of the same structure, y'know?

Glad to see it back up; was itching to get back in. So much so I dragged Puppy into it. (Got her into Minecraft a few days back, and was very excited when I said MotK had one too. :V )

Also, thanks EP for letting me know what slots were up for grabs. Making Puppy a little surprise near the spawn point; makes it nice and easy for her in case something goes wrong. (Which, knowing how many times Puppy has got herself blown up in my frigging map, will likely be a lot.  :derp: )

Hey there. long time no see guys. sorry i've been gone for so long. i didn't even know about the other server going down until i talked to Sunny and BSoD. my fault for not knowing that of course. but since this server is on the currant version at the moment, i think i'll come back on. (assuming i'm on the whitelist for this one  :derp: )

ADVWORLD 2: REVENGE OF YE OLDE PTM WORLD EDITION

Crazy floating islands and cave-like areas spanning all the way to Y256! Very little water down below, and some areas lead straight to the Void. You're going to really want water buckets and Feather Falling here.

Ores now span twice their old vertical area (eg. diamonds will now be Y32 and below and not Y16), hopefully making those easier to come by.

NOTE: I did not pre-gen this world yet, and got overflow errors when just rendering the spawn. A render will be done overnight, so players may experience higher latency, disconnects on this world, and/or server crashes as a result.

AdvWorld 2 hit another snag, quickly making another one as the mistake was simple to fix....

EDIT: Fixed and ready.

EDIT2:
...I still needed to do some SCIENCE with the /xp command to see if it gives people whole levels, or just individual experience points.
The /xp command gives individual EXP. The levels are then divided from the experience given.

REGARDING THE 1.5 UPDATE: (which came out today) (http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/767-15-redstone-update-released/)
As it just released, we'll need to linger on 1.4.7 a bit longer and wait for Bukkit and our plugins to update before we can move.

As 1.5.1 is already confirmed, chances are the Bukkit team will work towards that version.

A 1.4.7 JAR with Optifine is provided here (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43561671/minecraft_1.4.7_opti.jar).

Unrelated: I will be switching from stock CraftBukkit to Spigot (http://www.spigotmc.org/threads/read-first-about-spigot.3/) as our main plugin base, at least temporarily. As it is a performance-oriented branch of CraftBukkit I hope this reduces lag while being fully compatible with our plugins.

Lesson learned: Diamond armor is very resilient in lava.

That's what I get for continuing a chennel over a lava pit. Glad I was being unresourceful with my armor though.

CraftBukkit put out a dev build for 1.5 (http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/craftbukkit-for-minecraft-1-5-development-build-is-now-available.134872/), while Spigot (the fork we use) distributed a R0.1 snapshot, claiming it to be a full 1.5 release.

We're moving quicker than anticipated! Waiting on the former to make a stable recommended release and the latter to do their adjustments before we update.

Almost finalised a decision on the PearlXP pearls, and am thinking of updating to 1.5.1 within a fortnight.

Before the 1.5.x update, I will most likely install these two plugins into our arsenal as a test run:
 - Shopkeepers (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/shopkeepers/) (allows players and admins to make their own stores, fuelling player exchange. RecettEP would get massively changed with this too)
 - Rebalance Villagers (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/rebalance-villagers/) (adjusts trade values with villagers to reduce need for exploitation)

After some testing, I've decided that we'll update to 1.5.1 this week. Downtime will be approximately 48 hours (~18:00 GMT-5 / 6pm EST) after this post, so that plugins and worlds can be updated.

 - New Adventure Worlds
 - An entirely new Nether based on a different seed and pre-generated
 - Shopkeepers (already on server, but with extended capabilities and easier operation)

PearlXP:
Works once more, and just like it always has. Left-click an Ender Pearl to imbue XP into it (up to 825XP, or enough to go from Lv0->Lv30). This will turn to an Eye of Ender with Aqua Affinity enchant. To retrieve XP, left click that and it'll revert to a pearl.

Shopkeepers:
Installed to facilitate player exchanges, and increase the value of emeralds as a currency.

BIOSPHERE 2: REVNANCHIST PLANETOIDS

Those who were on DDR's server in summer 2011 remember this unholy abomination called Biosphere. All land was in spherical formations floating above insta-death bedrock, meaning that perillous bridges were everywhere and mob spawns concentrated in the few patches of land that existed.

It has returned, but this time we have planetoids for biospheres.

Each planetoid has an outer material and a core with something else. You could strike it rich...or face a miserable/blissful death. Tread carefully....>:D

EDIT: I think one can strike it too rich here; I'm considering a nerf, but more likely this world will not be on for too long.

EDIT2: New less-exploitative version arriving later.

I found some planets with rather... wealthy contents. It could use a bit of a nerf.

Did you use an old version of the program to make this world? I only see old blocks and white/blue wool. Other colors would be nice too.

No. I used the Planetoids plugin to generate it, relying on mostly default configs.
Not like re-colouring wool is hard to do anyway.

Let's just say this world is very generous, and that the value of most metals (bar emerald as it does not spawn there) crashed immensely for the time being. :getdown:
I'll find some way to raise their value.

There's something terribly wrong with the new adv world 2. At some areas it lags like crazy, about 2fps. I just warped back about 20 blocks and then got kicked for flying. The server probably crashed.

The snow biomes up there? There's only one project there I'm aware of, which is mostly underground.


To facilitate market growth I've went and made a community marketplace in the community centre, 3rd floor. Booths are set up in it already. This is not meant to replace all shops at all - I prefer you set them up in your own area too, and use the community market as a remote branch of your wares.

A few tips and restrictions:
 - Limit 4 booths per player. This restriction may be eased in the future, depending on how things turn out.
 - Place the chest in the ceiling. It can still be opened this way and will be easier to access than if a shopkeeper were standing on it.
 - Place a sign above and outside to indicate that it's your store, and maybe what that store deals with.

I noticed the plugin was borked earlier, so I did make an attempt to disable it earlier this morning. Apparently it didn't actually disable it....

EDIT: Saw the joke stores in the marketplace and took them down. It's a business location, not a circus. :V

EDIT2: Custom recipes added, making custom items. Going between uptime and downtime due to host.

EDIT3: Fully added - 2 new types of double slabs (in vanilla but unused), as well as ways to craft/smelt ferns and dead bushes. See OP for information.

Getting reports of support for a server event of some sort after some testing of manually buffed mobs.

Also thinking I may have made the server a bit too easy to play regular MC, but at the end of the day as long as players enjoy it I'm fine with it. That being said, if any of you have any comments, concerns, criticisms, evidence on why testificates suck, etc., go ahead and let me know and we can try to work something out to address that.

Definitely is, but unlike some other special items teleporter bows are directly replacing an in-game alternative (in this case ender pearl throwing). Nevertheless I'll keep it anyway as it requires Eyes of Ender to get anyway (meaning those Endermen aren't useless yet). :V

I am aware of both the creative and the survival aspects of the game, and balancing the two can be difficult. :V

Yes. It's there if you don't want to fight Withers. The price is set so that Wither fighting is a much more economical alternative to obtain Nether Stars.

In other words, plugins that look very tempting but I am hesitant to install and/or enable them without convincing arguments otherwise. My thoughts on this are in italics.

StrangeWeapons (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/strange-weapons/)
Description: Adds more TF2 to your Minecraft! Crates, keys, Strange weps (complete with rank), Strange Parts, even a drop system!
As much as I like TF2 stuff (being the TF2 server co-admin at that :V), farming Stranges on a server where we PVP only once every 5 blue moons is probably not practical. Plus this would really pressure RecettEP to Mann Co., which most likely mandates I use a Saxton Hale skin. :V

WeaponLevels (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/weaponlevels/)
Description: Weapons and tools level up with increasing usage. Higher levels deal more damage.
Interesting idea to encourage extended tool usage and repair. The lack of 1.5.1 version aside, I think enchant stacking equipment does the job well enough already.

FactionMobs (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/faction-mobs/)
Description: Allows for the spawning of mobs who are loyal to certain factions. Good for use as soldiers.
This would be a big boost to some of our more...conquest-minded players. But it requires Factions as a dependency, which I may consider using but it might also evoke memories of B1.8.1 Anarchy World....

Mob Armor (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/mob-armor/)
Description: Allows one to equip and modify certain mobs anytime. Can even have armoured mobs spawn naturally.
That could add some more challenge...but this isn't the Miner Scrolls. :V

MobArena (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/mobarena/)
Description: Facilitates co-op and solo mob fighting with the ability to set up waves, bosses, arenas, and even classes.
What is this, MVM for Minecraft? It does sound fun, but I'd rather play MVM or KF personally.

Lastly, one that will possibly be installed:
CrackShot (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/crackshot/)
Description: Adds fully configurable custom weapons. Does not require any client-side mods, not even Spout.
Hm, I've always wanted to add crossbows and bolt-action rifles, maybe a few other things. Might use this plugin to create those.

So apparently the MC 2.0 files were found and are leaking in various areas. Interestingly it includes a server JAR too!
But it's borderline unplayable without godmode/Creative since it seems to check the account, and should it not match, prepare for lots of lightning and (if not Peaceful) OP mobs on a regular basis. :V

I'll gladly join in on the fun tomorrow while I'm at the library installing Starcraft II. :V

We have several EU players, but they don't report too much lag. Maybe a bit more than their western US/CA bretheren (server's in central-southern US) but that's about it.

Indeed. Mine are all semi-automatic - only the harvesting is automated.

IMO I find semi-auto more efficient though, as one can get everything whenever (s)he wants to.

That was also me. I decided to act upon mentioning that the empty space under the shop from my mishap during its construction could be made into a basement. This was also from quite some time ago. I've been wanting to get back onto the server for a while, but repairing my computer has taken a lot longer than I thought it would.

Sorry, I did that a while, be thankful I felt it tedious to do. I felt it'd be a weird way to find some sort of ratio between nether portal distances and main world portal distances. Didn't work at all for me.

Exploring the Nether is fun! Just grab a few pickaxes and fire resistance potions and jump off a cliff and see where it takes you. You can get out easily with /home so why not?

A bit close IMO; there are other snowy areas to work with. If you still want to work there negotiate with Cadmas first.

 I think that the proposed area is much too large - building a structure that large will take a pretty long time and use a ton of resources.

Alright this is for everyone's info as to the land claims of Knoxville.

Knoxville is a city in name as well as an empire with wide tracks of land.
The total land claim includes the large tundra, the connected biomes, and the island in the south west.
With EP expanding the border of the world the land size increased.

Hakutown, Moriya, and Undine border Knoxville but are not part of it.
Future plans include a temple based on each of the 6 towers found in Knoxville city, Blackrose Manor, a town in Dust Valley, Wickerwitch Village, and faint echoes of a town by the name Brightburg to be build of quartz.
Currently there was one person building in Knoxville without permission, but since they are so far away I have left them. The current buildings by that person are not considered part of the empire, however they are free to join at any time. Anyone willing to build within the empire as part of it need acquire a deed.  Keep in mind anyone that acquires a deed is subject to law and can only build what they request and where I see it fit to build.

As for Sol your arena would be best located somewhere within that black box on the image I posted.
In fact, I encourage you to build a city around the arena and give it the proper Roman city vibe.

Server has been updated to v1.5.2, which was released today. Thankfully Bukkit and Spigot had versions ready.

Seems that the shopkeeper plugin is currently not working. As a result, only the normal villager shopkeepers have stayed (so witch ones are gone) and they are acting like default villagers, all with the same trades of 8/9 gold for 1 emerald. Hopefully we won't lose our trade setups upon the update of the plugin. As far as I can tell, other plugins are working normally.

Yeah, no items were lost, since they were stored away in a chest near the shopkeepers. Just the trades (and some shopkeepers if they were witches) went poof.

The items disappeared for admin stores on the other hand, since they don't use chests at all. :V

In the process of restocking what was in there, at least in terms of items and goods traded.

EDIT: Put up a dev build of Shopkeepers that appears to be working. Previous stores are all intact.

I found a working flower farm design, but server lag causes water to decade oddly, which sometimes throws off the redstone.

Interim update this morning - new AdvWorlds! Thanks to schedule, I went with pre-made maps today and despite many superb options I went with this:

Yep. Mycelium madness! Comes with more ores and caves than normal as well as a much smaller 1024x1024 size (map only went that far). As the biome is also set to Mushroom Island (damnit should've checked this >:( ) mobs are negligible as an issue.

This map is quite generous (though IMO nowhere near as broken as BioSphere 2) so it'll only be up for a limited time, then replaced with something harder. So grab the loot while you can, lads!

Also of note: Unbreaking 4, Looting 4, Fortune 4, and Protection 5 books can be obtained via the admin store. You will need two books of the previous level and some emeralds to retrieve them.

Edit: I think this might be pretty OP, I mean I just got 400 emeralds from a 30-minute trek and about 150 diamonds (But then again I used the PLC). Even with the PLC being noted, it's still pretty OP when you consider that I obtained almost 100 emerald ore.

Figured out how to separate inventories and other stats by worlds or groups of worlds, so we have a lot more leeway in what we can do. Definitely a big boost to making old worlds accessible again.
Maybe could even add a Creative world (though I fear such an addition would sour creating stuff on main and flat worlds)....

This was from a render test from earlier when the border was expanded to 2400x2400. That will probably be done eventually, but I determined it was too soon for that.

So it seems 1.6.1 is out in full force, bravo. Spigot has already updated (albeit in snapshot versions) so we should be updating after the following:
 - Core plugins are updated. If certain plugins (namely Shopkeepers and PearlXP, but others exist) lack timely updates they'll probably be removed with a form of compensation given.
 - New AdvWorlds.
 - Configs are cleaned up since a few plugins are carrying legacy settings.

Server shutdown notifications will be given before it really updates.

Actually, that happens a lot, so it wouldn't be that much different. And if I die, it was most likely lava because I'm a lava magnet it seems. :V

Once, I fell in lava then panicked while trying to put the fire out because I had plenty of stuffs. Of course, I trapped myself under a layer of obsidian. It's... not funny! okay fine yes it was funny

Also speaking of lava, I once had a Nether Portal that connected to a cave under the Nether's lava sea. Not only that, but it must have been near the middle because there was lava in every direction excluding down. Like I was in a stupid netherrack bubble. Imagine the frustration when lava is coming in from everywhere :getdown:

We are finally updated with version 1.6.2! :toot:

Among other things added:

Notes on 1.0-1.1 worlds:

MobArena, PVPArena, and Crackshot were removed due to perceived lack of need and problems with overhead.

Horse armour will, for the time being, not be craftable (just like in vanilla).

AdvWorld 2 is unavailable at this time due to a lack of time to prepare one.

More things may change as I see fit amid comments.

Well I figured out one thing, opening my chests in the first old world that still have torches on them makes them fall off. :\ Darn it, Mojang.

It really is nice to see that world again though.

EDIT: The /contents command doesn't seem to work, no matter if I'm holding the crate or not. Just says "You may not view crate contents".

General consensus says it's best to fight the Wither underground in a long enclosed area. Numerous surface attempts have mostly been disastrous.

The Nether horse trick isn't working.
I managed to transport them to the Nether, but from there they refuse to enter any portals.

Edit: Right after I finish this post two of them go through the portal >_>
It takes very long before they decide to go to the main world, so if you're trying, go post or something while you're waiting.

I would assume one could use leads to force them in.

EDIT: They do not really refuse to enter portals. However it's recommended to get them over anyhow, whether it be through leads or by dismounting a tamed horse right on the Nether Portal (you will take a bit of suffocation damage this way).

The grey and spotted horse that was at the spawn Nether portal has been moved to main world nearby the portal building. Owner of said horse, please claim it.

Which brings me to my last point to make. I'd highly recommend naming your horses in order to prevent confusion - we don't want a silly mob-based property dispute anyhow!

Yeah, that's one reason why we started doing adventure worlds. There was no telling when or how often Mojang would tweak the biome generation code. It surely beats hours of schematic importing and placement. Not to mention that people wouldn't have to "start over" every few months.

Any news on which biomes would be introduced?

Back when Jungles were being introduced, I entertained the idea of copy/pasting a large section of it into the main world at the time. WorldEdit schematics are always cuboid in shape, so it would have needed a healthy dose of smoothing out the edges to make it look right. The only problem is that it wouldn't have changed the biome into a real jungle, meaning ocelots wouldn't spawn, etc.

In the end, laziness prevailed :V

Could use something like WeatherMan (http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/weatherman/) to change biome settings on the fly, if needed. For terrain, WE schematics seem to be the most practical approach, alas, and terraforming would still be needed.



Made a minor update to server concerning plugins and custom recipes. Namely, the batch wool recipes work again (a plugin update broke them for who knows how long now), and a new custom recipe is added:

Forge is a mod API used by many popular content-expanding MC mods as a base. It additionally can be installed on servers to allow multiplayer with mods, provided clients have them installed too.

The mod you linked requires Forge as a dependency, so I've put it under that category.

Interesting changes and flip-flop of terrain code for the snapshot.

Played around with the Alice mod on my system and a local test server - and I do agree they are cool. Glad to see support for it.

The single major problem I have with it, however, is that it has compatibility issues with NotEnoughItems (NEI) (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/909223-162-smp-chickenbones-mods/), at least on my system. NEI can easily look up recipes for any stock or custom item, thus reducing the need to browse the MC wiki and several other far-flung websites at the same time.

Double post for update:

Server is updated to 1.6.4 pretty quickly as it is a minor update, but I'm not 100% sure of compatibility.

In preparation for 1.7, make sure to visit any natural structures (villages, witch huts, pyramids, etc.) so that they'll be reflected in the world file.



Should not be surprising, but I've lately been considering whether to utilise a selection of Forge mods for 1.7 and onwards, in order to greatly broaden the possibilities of the game and encourage more players. I don't want it to go so far as to significantly alter the game mechanics (so nothing like BuildCraft or IC2). Clients will need to install Forge to run these mods. I'll probably provide a modpack with mods whose permissions allow for modpack inclusion, with the rest being manual downloads.

Mod list with links that I'd like to implement:

Alternatively, full mod packs eg. Tekkit Lite or FTB can be used - and these are easier to install and get playing, but since these use 1.4.7 or 1.5.2 code we'd have to start over entirely to prevent any conflicts; furthermore some of the mods lack current versions.

Ideally this would be up on another server (to preserve the vanilla-esque experience and reduce conflicts), but my finances don't allow that unless we instead run two lower-power servers. That may be an option I'd consider due to the rather low player turnout making the server hardware seem more powerful than needed. Conversely, the separate servers could mean additional content.

Anyways mods.

Biomes O' Plenty - I like the biome part of this mod, but it looks like a lot of the stuff in 1.7 might make the items redundant in this mod.
Baikon's Weaponmod - Looks alright. Cannons are something I've wanted. Muskets look alright. I know a lot of people don't like guns in mc (me included) but long as its not call of duty it's fine by me.
Jammy Furniture Mod - I want everything in this mod. I'm crap at decorating insides since I build small rooms.
UsefulFood - Would give me a lot of things to put in my market space.
CraftGuide - Useful don't see any reason not to have it if so many mods are added in.
DungeonPack-  Looks pretty big. I hope it doesn't clash with biomes much.
ComputerCraft - Haven't looked at this one much, but there are places where I would like to put computers.

It'll still be on and about, but I'm certainly not decided on whether to keep it as a main world or demote it as a legacy place like the 1.0-1.1 worlds. Either way player inventories will be kept the same (ie. no separate inventory system like with 1.0-1.1 worlds).

1.7 does add things to the table too, but certainly nowhere near the amounts of stuff this mod presents. :P

Personally I'm fine with muskets, blunderbusses, and classic revolvers in my MC (which this mod covers), but WWII stuff and later definitely is too out-of-place.

From my testing it seemed to be pretty friendly with both vanilla and Biomes O Plenty worlds, but yeah, the more extreme designs may cause silly generation.

Forgot to mention, if there are any mods you'd like to see implemented suggest them.



Unrelated missed 1.6.4 update note - chopping the base of trees with a Gold Axe will cause the entire tree to fall. Lumberjacking just got a whole lot easier and pricier.

La-a-a-ate, and it might sound weird to hear suggestions from a guy who has never posted here before (or barely posts at all), but I recommend WildCaves 3 (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1554854-/), which makes the caves much more interesting to look at, and, if it wouldn't be deemed too "cheaty", IronChests (http://files.minecraftforge.net/IronChests2/) or Backpacks (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1492661-15x-16x-backpacks-v-11817/). IronChests are basically standard chests, but crafted from iron, gold or diamond, and can hold much larger amounts, and Backpacks are essentially portable chests, (very convenient when you want to move things from one chest to another without using BC pipes or anything like that) which you can increase the capacity of by adding some tanned leather. You can also dye them.

Also, aren't Jammy's Furniture and Balkon's Weps buggy in multiplayer? In the furniture mod, when you sit on something, you're bugged for all the other players (and you look like you aren't sitting at all, or in the wrong position), and in Balkon's mod, the flails can crash other people's clients with a Ticking Entity error. (although I haven't tried it on a completely "clean" server, so who knows, might just be a conflict)

I heartily endorse the Backpack mod. My Ender-backpack never leaves my hotbar. :3

..oh and I hope you like farming spiders for string. You'll need quite a bit for the large backpacks. Too bad there isn't any flax on this server..

Not sure about the caves mod due to its beta status, but the other two are interesting to consider.

I am leaning towards the option of separate vanilla-mod servers for stability reasons with existing content. As nice as it would be to have computer networks across Knoxville and Hakutown, it could end up causing more trouble than it's worth to the 1.2.5-era world in the long run.
The big question now - whether to use 1.6.4+ or 1.5.2 instead. Most major modpacks are using the older version, and we can additionally make our own private modpacks - for which the greatly simplified maintenance and installation procedures make it worthwhile to use. OTOH, staying with current MC means consistency in vanilla functions and mod installation procedures (including Optifine).

Might consider instating a trial run to gauge interest.

Your underground city remains intact on the 1.0 world, which is accessible from the current server. I can export the project over if you wish as part of its own world, or even the whole world file if you prefer.

well, it's walled on every side, it's in a cave. :V
What do you mean with walled over?

I reduced the length of the third floor so it is only 2 floors high on the side wings and 3 floors on the main wing.
That way the building nolonger looks so massive.
You can barely see the front of the building in the distance, when you still are standing on the lower bridges at the entrance area. ("Stage 2 Area" :))
You won't see it on the upper bridge, since the maximum view distance is not high enough for the standard client.

When I think of buildings within Former Capital (Stage 3), it might block the view anyway. About 25 Block to the cave ceiling, that should be used :D

I'm currently about to finish the cave area itself, before I start any buildings, except the alleys, lighting and so on.
I guess I will finish Chireiden (Stage 4) after the cave and continue with Stage 5 and 6 before building the Capital area. :V

I have a great idea how to build a Sun out of lava underground, but I have no idea if it will come out the way I want it to.

Bukkit now has 1.7.2 dev build so the waiting has begun to end.

Lastly, I am considering installing the CraftBook (http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/craftbook/) and MagicSpells (http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/magicspells/) plugins as consolation for the mod server not happening, but I worry that it may be too detached from vanilla. Post here whether you want it in or not within the next week.

The return of the news!

Q: Why was the server down today despite having the new IP address?
A: The 1.7.2 update was done yesterday and today!

Despite the latest client version being 1.7.4, mods are taking a very long time to update, with Bukkit's late dev build and the lack of both Optifine and Forge (and any mods that use it) for 1.7.x.

From quick testing most plugins report fine for this version, but if there are any issues let me know! So far I've noted "ghost items" being created with invalid shopkeeper trades, and possible issues from LWC going by comments on its Bukkit page.

New AdvWorlds and regenerated Nether as normal.

I've noted some bugs with crafting and smelting, and installed an unoffiicial 1.7.2 build of the recipe manager plugin to try and correct it. Hopefully it works.

Erm... Is something up? You still testing I take it?
Works fine for me and others. Maybe you typed it incorrectly, or something's interfering the connection closer to your end?

Noticing that //regen will not be possible on the main world anymore due to biome changes. Additionally I'm seeing some weather pattern changes in some locations, particularly extreme hills with a certain height.
EDIT: Weather changes for extreme hills, particularly snow above Y95, is due to 1.7.x, and not a world problem. Nevertheless, 1.7.x has changed other weather patterns too (eg. taiga biomes no longer snow unless they're cold taigas), so bear that in mind.

Combined with existing //regen problems in 1.6.4 (including spawning a broken village - it's to the west of my tower area), I'm beginning to fear the possiblity of world corruption.

Wanted to Block something sometimes but I never see anyone online on the server  :ohdear:

Maybe we can do some events and have some fun, new world action with Ultra Hardcore PVP (Teams spawn randomly on a limited world and fight eachother, no natural hp regeneration except golden apple) on weekends.

Building game would be fun aswell :D

Gold portals never seemed worth it to build. So much obsidian needed.

But the changes Mojang made are just pointless b/c they don't put a end to gold and iron farms. Us mob farm builders already know we can build crushers with pistons and a bit of redstone.

So all they really did was require you to wait around press and button and toss a potion like with blaze farms, which means mobs will collect and cause lag in that area.

Mojang just needs to come off it when trying to balance a game that doesn't need it. Cause unless they remove redstone people will keep building mob farms.

This is an opinion I highly disagree with. If this was using some game bug in order to get stuff from nothing like the sand duper or the piston dupe bug then I would agree.

But this is using the game rules and building to maximize those rules to get benefit.

A quick interim mini-update crafting and smelting-wise in preparation for larger things!

First, the lack of ice biomes has led to a scarity of packed ice. Thus it is now craftable.

Horse armour is now craftable as well.

Lastly, gold weapons, tools, and armour can be smelted for nuggets. All horse armour is also valid for this.

I am well aware that stuff is in very high demand, but due to over-hunting only a set quota's allowed to be sold (hence why only the admin store sells it).

A resurging tengu population has led to rumours that the quota may be increased in the future, however.

Yes, and that was well over a year ago since that was the case. I blame a lack of SCIENCE, player burnout (we did have the same map for 1 1/2 years anyway), and scheduling uncertainties pending 1.8.x and server update plans.

Also considering moving down to a 2GB RAM configuration due to lack of player activity, even though financially I have no issues with the current 2.5GB setup.

Today marks the 1-year anniversary of this current server being open to the public! :toot:

As a celebration:

THE ULTRA-SUBSTANTIAL UPDATE (part 1)
World-side updates galore

(1) NEW WORLDSETS AND WORLDS
Now, you might be asking, just what is a worldset? Simple - they are a group of worlds that share gamemodes, inventories, features, Nethers, and Ends.
Why has this been done? Thanks to the Multiverse-Inventories plugin allowing groups of worlds and variable player inventory sharing between them, I have deemed it possible to cater to a wider variety of experiences without breaking too many things (hopefully).

Survival+:
Old world goes here. In addition, a new 1.7.2 terrain-based world (hereby deemed the new main spawn - I will make it neater as time goes by) plus AdvWorld 1 utilise this.

It's the same as we have been playing for some time now - flying's all fine, custom items are available, and so on.

Creative:
Another new world based on 1.7 code (creative) plus Flatworld (world_flat).

Full-out Creative mode fun for those who prefer that mode instead! Plus you can teleport yourself to any coordinate you like - as long as it is within world borders.

Hard Survival:
Yet another new 1.7 world (hardland) and AdvWorld 2.

Everyone starts fresh here, and some of the perks we take for granted (including dynmap and home-setting, though /home to other worlds and /spawn are unaffected for balance reasons) do not work.

Exhibition:
The 1.1 worlds and MC history museum. Adventure mode as they are meant for touring. Former additionally allows teleporting to positions.

Nethers and Ends for survival worlds are all tied to AdvWorlds now, so these are just as temporary. Creative ones have it constant.

NOTE: I have saved everyone's inventories, assuming they will be for old world (and in turn Survival+ worldset). Once logging on /spawn (new world) or /warp oldworld (old world). If you find your inventory missing, send me a post here, on Steam chat, or in server (via /mail send theep <your_message>).

(2) COMPLETE IN-GAME SERVER GUIDE
A fully written guide made of books is available in newworld spawn. Currently it is at 4 volumes, but more will be added and existing versions changed as new things come up. First-time players will receive a set of vouchers to use towards these and a few other goods - for everyone else, they are sold at a low price.

It includes introduction, commnads,  world information, custom recipes, and info on using several plugins.

This is done primarily since not everyone checks the thread. Plus as they go into quite some detail I recommend everyone grab a copy anyway.

(3) OTHER CHANGES
 - Updates to Spigot, Shopkeepers, Multiverse (and dependent plugins), Essentials, Dynmap
 - Bed-side spawning works in survival worlds
 - AdvWorlds 1 + 2 regenerated. Amplified again, but too much other work to mess with TerrainControl for now
 - Head drop rates increased to 1% for most mobs (previously was around .25%) - wither skeles remain at 2.5%
 - Player head drops increased to 10% but -still- only are earned via PVP (I will make some kind of PVP system for update part 2)
 - Enderdragon does not damage non-End blocks anymore (due to griefing concerns in Creative worlds)
 - opened server to another, notably smaller community of western Touhou fans I associate with. Don't worry, they don't bite.
 - Did NOT go down to 2GB RAM amid the increased load this world system will incur
 - more I may have forgotten

So today I learned that spawn protection is more powerful than creative mode, as the immediate area around flat world warp is still spawn protected.

Also tried to restore the piston elevator that's been in flat world forever. It's working, but physics don't agree with it anymore. Don't remember who made that a long while back.

And to note, PX has no excuse for not finishing Fluttershy now. >:D

One normal, one flat, and the prospects of importing your things are unlikely (aside from the underground city project). However you will need to send the world files over.

But you CAN download certain mods. They have to be what I like to call "Client-side mods" like Rei's Minimap or Optifine, which do nothing but affect how your client views the game. Those two mods are a must-download unless you have a good computer or aren't very picky about framerate. Rei's Minimap allows you to place waypoints and make navigation infinitely easier. Optifine uses a less crap way of rendering Minecraft, optimizing it for your PC.

Lately I have been getting server-related e-mails rather than the normal PMs.

While it is also technically valid, I insist you all use PMs only for this kind of thing - it lets me verify who sends me what, and moreover, PMs generate an e-mail notification. If you cannot PM, chances are you're either way too new here, banned from this community, or just visiting. :V

EDIT: Creative World has gotten...quite the overhaul. As I am too tired now to upload screenshots, I encourage checking it for yourself - and don't touch anything. :V

Chairs you can sit on can be made with any stairs, with two signs on the sides. Right-click them to sit - in Creative worlds you will need an empty hand for it to work.

Updated server to 1.7.9, in lieu of Mojang insisting everyone update to 1.7.6+ in preparation for 1.8.x (mostly due to servers now using UUIDs for identification as well as server-side skin management).

Either way, looking forward to joining in! Waypoints are a thing right? because I've heard that's a very handy thing to have.

We don't use waypoints. Instead, we have warps which you can build to get to specific areas. Plus, in the main worlds, you can just fly so there's that. Not like the world sizes are extraordinarily huge to begin with, so it works itself out pretty nicely.

Well, it's not overworld navigation that becomes a navigational hazard, it's when I go underground that my horrid sense of direction rears its ugly head.

Incidentally, what kind of mods are under consideration for the server's use, if any?
It's been ages since I expressed a desire to show up on this server, so things may well have changed since then.
I've heard great things about Tinker's Construct, and how it's got all sorts of tools and a multi-block construct.

While I greatly like Forge mods, it is far too much of a hassle IMO to implement those on top of our existing setup. I'd rather start over world-wise (preferrably from plurality decision from players), at least, if we were to install those.

Thus for now mods are all server-side Bukkit plugins. The use of Spigot over Bukkit is largely for performance and extended configuration reasons.

One more announcement to make: new players who want to join need to send both display name -and- player UUID in their PMs. You can find UUIDs via a tool such as MineUUID (https://forums.bukkit.org/threads/tool-mineuuid-find-out-your-minecraft-uuid.187571/). If one does not exist, you may need to transition your Minecraft account to Mojang accounts and/or play the game on MC 1.7.6+ at least once.
Blame Mojang's UUID transition for this.

Given the significant dearth of player interest I am going to be scaling back the server hardware setup to a 1.5GB-RAM one later this month. I do not see much need for paying for the current 2.5GB amount.

On the flip side, I do have other things planned, so keep your eyes peeled....

Just been in and spent a good while in there. Whatever problem I had has since been fixed; so whether you did something to it or not EP, it certainly is a lot better.

Been working on something in the snow. Not quite sure what I'll be doing with it in the end, but I want to play around a bit and build something a little extreme... well, for me, anyway. I don't usually get these sort of ideas in Minecraft~ :V

Ran updates to the server. 1.8 clients will be able to connect, but because the server base code is still for 1.7.10, those who do will be unable to use any of 1.8's new items and features.

I have also shrunk the new survival world to X/Z +/- 2048, so we can generate some new chunks later for 1.8 without ballooning the existing world size. While I am rather assured that no one had bases out there worth holding on to (the bases I knew were within that perimeter), and that a backup I did included anything that was - yet, if there was anything out there, please let me know ASAP! I'd rather be notified sooner than later.

From initial testing, the RAM downgrade doesn't affect playing all that much, but it does choke the systems harder (especially if doing, say, terrain generation).

Just been back on it now... seems to be fine for the most part. Some blocks flicker a fair bit once mined, but otherwise, it's okay. Some items in the chests back at the spawn area don't appear properly, though~

That is a bit strange. As far as I am aware of, there aren't any noticeable issues (even with the other players that pop in every once in a blue moon)....

EDIT: An IP address change will occur in the next few days, due to the server host being acquired by another company and the resulting switch of server infrastructure. I will let you all know what the new IP is once that occurs.

Still no new developments concerning Spigot or Sponge for 1.8.x. But while we wait, what's your thoughts on installing Carbon (http://www.spigotmc.org/resources/carbon.1258/) to add some 1.8 stuff in? This will of course force everyone to use 1.8, but until we get a proper release this might work.

I did take a look at server logs a few weeks ago and was very surprised to see that played did, indeed, connect since January. My previous server activity criterion, however, was already triggered by an absolute lack of players for at least 30 straight days before the new year, so I was debating scaling back and shutting it down. But it doesn't seem like it's ready to do so.

So here is the first part of news - I did roughly install 1.8  fully on the server, so its new additions can be utilised too!

However. we have had to switch from Essentials (which has had no dev builds of any kind since September) to CommandBook as the primary command plugin. Among this and other changes, the following issues are already noted:

Second piece of information - due to the previous criterion being matched (and with the assistance of the plugin switch), I am deciding to move on to a new set of worlds and start anew at the end of the month. Now, I know, the whole new world system was meant to address such concerns and encourage activity, but I am highly of the opinion we should restructure this further to better entice new activity. I won't abandon them entirely though - all worlds will be backed up and shared, the Creative ones and the museum are likely to exist as-is, and schematic imports for certain projects are in consideration.

One thing up, another thing down?

I've lately noticed that dynmap is having a tendency to erase all pre-rendered tiles and redirect to a file listing after a while. I'm practically clueless at the moment why that is, though rebooting server periodically does help.

On the bright side, at least LogBlock is working again, albeit with newly made logs.

Another quick addition - I found an Essentials build that works, meaning previous homes/warps/commands tied to that plugin are operating normally again! \o/\

Additionally Stuffman's ancient 1.1 world backups were still available so I can easily convert and fill them in. Seems Multiverse has an option for 1.1-style generation, hm... (though I doubt anyone will be building new stuff there, haha).

Though, I'm afraid while it costs half of my tuition, it won't happen any time soon. Damn. Should've bought it while it was cheap.

Pretty much find that the downgrades to the server cause too much lag for me.

Also cant find any of the new stone types in Newworld.

You'd have to go further out for those - Newworld itself was made in 1.7.3 IIRC, but re-expanded for 1.8.

While the RAM downgrade from ages ago has been noted to give some increased issues, it may alternately be due to changes in the hosting location (Dallas to Seattle) made some time ago by host. Given the effects of this have been quite pronounced lately for some of us on the east coast, it's likely I'll be negotiating for re-moving the server to a central location.

Well I'm not having much luck, got killed in a lag-fit and my inventory is lost.

Welp don't ever download mcpatcher anymore. Its full of installers. They're are too many mod sites now I don't even know which one to trust.

Wheat farm not working too well. Might have to move the farm out of the village and start with a new farmer.

So I am here to report and correct more things.

First, just to clarify, the new world from the multiworlds mega-update (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,14446.msg1078062.html#msg1078062) is not the new world I am promising. I have since renamed it to oldWorld2 in chat logs. So I have attached a preview of a possible new spawn (though now, I feel like I'm being a tad too generous and/or planning too far ahead....).
EDIT: Nah, I canned that spawn in favour of something much more simple.

I'll also say that things progressed more slowly than I had planned, so it may take a few more days to get the base world up and clear the plugin base. Other addons like AdvWorld will probably come afterwards.

Next up, PearlXP is confirmed to have problems with 1.8, as it uses an older XP calculation routine. An alternate method that turns XP to enchant bottles will be in place. (Rather comically, it does remind me of the 1.3.1 PearlXP XP duping bug, except in the inverse...:getdown:)

There's also block type issues with leaves in player inventories, but given the near future that point will be largely moot.

Lastly, given the sheer scope of the impending changes, I'll consider a new thread when the new world is live.

Server updates are in progress; it will be inaccessible for the time being. New world and most configurations are done; now I'm mostly waiting on backups to finish and have a few more configurations to do afterwards.

I am right now too tired to make a changelog, so I'll post that later. What I can say for now is that the old world hasn't disappeared at all (and neither have your items, shopkeepers, etc.), but it'll take more than simple warps to get back there.

UPDATE HERE since I don't want to double-post:
I would like to have decisions regarding implementing the below instead of the current situation. I'm aware at least one player was well on his way to achieving this, but I've also received many confused looks and criticism with this implementation.

I have found a way to both move players automatically and keep inventories after investigating the use of join plugins, alleviating the biggest issue with my original new world-based proposal. Granted, this does mean one can now warp from old->new worlds, and it does mean that you'll be sucked back to new spawn every time you join (for now), but this is far more in-line with my original intentions, and greatly reduces the current implementation's comically absurd disincentive for building on new world.

Additionally, the whole quest idea can be made easier - you'll still need to find and make a way to old world complete with evidence, but this time the way back is already provided. With the full unlocks, the auto-moving join plugin will get disabled. The method of access remains the same.

Limitations until quest is done:

The original incentive for this was to encourage building in new world while keeping old world as-is (due to popular pressure). While it is indeed inconvenient - and the new world is rather unfurnished right now -I see this as a way to fulfil that goal, all while placing greater emphasis on the community players' agendas and role whilst making it not too stressful on my part to administer.

I'd have to say I'd like that implementation better than what we have now. Forcing players to spawn in new world would definitely require them to play here much more to unlock old world again, instead of having access to old world and everything we've accumulated over the past long while.

Undoubtedly. Amid hearing this and other feedback, I would work on immediately implementing this (and as an added bonus, those who already have new world access get to keep it and whatever they have already), but Mojang's authentication servers are down (https://mojang.com/2015/04/planned-maintenance-tuesday-april-14/). :U

I did attempt to disable the authentication in server properties, but then it will give a completely different UUID that will run foul of the whitelist. Plus inventories are tied to UUID information.

EDIT: Quick config changes are done. For those just tuning in, see this post (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,14446.msg1176467.html#msg1176467) for details on what it entails.

Also added: disabled crop trampling from players and mobs. This was set to be the case for some time now (presumably from the StuffStrafe era), but was re-enabled in 1.8 following a complete configuration redo. While the trampling is vanilla behaviour, I also think it is more of an annoyance than something useful.

A small community centre was built on new world, but isn't complete yet. It's also meant to be a temporary thing.

EDIT 2: Nether Fortress and a route to the End is found! Nether Fortress has an open cobble path; as for a stronghold, check a patch of pink wool to the east of the desert village somewhat to the north of spawn, then follow the restone path.

I also nerfed my original unlocked idea a bit as it felt a bit too ridiculous for a single player to take on. Be well-prepared anyways, however!

EDIT 3: (this is not important enough to make a new post IMO):
While I had the time, I decided to go ahead and get the whole unlock quest out of the way legitimately. As that quest states, I am obliged to post the results:

So with that, all warps and home-setting work on (almost) all worlds again. No more arbitrary new world warps or /sethome denials! (exceptions are areas where one isn't expected to reside for long, eg. museum)

As for the chest rewards in the second image, I left them there and even spiced them up a little, and reconstructed the End as it was set for the challenge - namely, 2 Enderdragons at once (they cannot, however, damage blocks at all, so pillaring up the obsidian pillars is perfectly workable), regular mobs spawning, and caged Ender Crystals as seen in the console versions of MC.

Name tags are also now craftable. Granted, they are already renewable via trading and AdvWorld loot, but IMO they should be more readily available. The recipe:

Lastly, biome changes (except for Nether and End biomes) in either new or old worlds are more than fine with me if you like. I just ask that the area look a little like the intended biome first - eg. if you want mushroom island biome in an area, there should be some mycelium and tall mushrooms around first.

I felt the need to point this out; admittedly, I should have given the notice sooner. :fail:

Because of a dearth of player activity in the past few months (and my own lack of interest in MC these days), I have decided to suspend server service. Before doing so, however, I have backed up everything* - worlds, plugin data, player inventories, configurations, you name it - onto local storage, and intend to upload it within the coming days.

Perhaps someone else will take the helm from here? :3

* - everything except Dynmap's map renders, that is. Adding those would have made the backup at least 10x / 30GB larger.

I'm still working with the plugins and configurations, however; I'm more than happy to share most of them (eg. plugin configs), but others (eg. whitelists) are better left to administration in the event of a possible successor server.

Quick explanation of the archives:
creative* - Creative world (/warp creative), used mostly for spawnside shenanigans. I doubt the Nether and End here were used though.
gefeliciteerd - Temporary world used as part of that whole 'unlock old world' ordeal I had in mind. The quest went from NW0 (1.8.x) -> AdvWorld 2 End -> Old world (+1.7.3 world) -> AdvWorld 1 End (modded to be a harder fight) -> this -> NW0 again, and it contained some NBT-edited items as a trophy.
hardland - Hard mode survival world (/warp hardland) where flying, home, dynmap, and such weren't an option. I think there was only one base here, aside from the spawn manor.
museum - The Museum of Minecraft History (/warp museum), made to hold BSoD's museum that was previously on flat world. Updated through 1.7.10 IIRC.
newworld - Survival world made using 1.7.3 or thereabouts (/warp world_old2 IIRC). Was made as main world had an older chunk generator, and I had hoped adding new land would increase interest and promote new building.
NW0* - 1.8 survival world (/warp newworld IIRC). I thought it was a neat little place.
world_flat - Flat world of creative content (/warp world_flat), where most of the shenanigans and fun projects are. Now you can ride the AFK Coaster to your heart's content! :P
world_nether - An old Nether that just exists. Nethers in my tenure tended to be tied to AdvWorlds, not this one.
world_the_end - See world_nether, same logic applies to Ends.
world - The 1.2.5 and 1.4.7 world we have called home since mid-2012!
AdvWorlds? - Nope! They remain as temporary as they have been since the StuffStrafe days, so backing these up was never going to happen. :P
1.0-era worlds?! - We had them converted and on server for some time, but they disappeared somehow. I still have Stuffman's original backups of these, and these are still available (https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,11531.msg818206.html#msg818206) (albeit in 1.1 format).

I will admit that I could have been considerably more active with the upkeep of this server, more than just keeping it running and functional. Maybe it shows I'm not the type to arrange such events? Ah, whatever, what's done is done, and it's definitely time to move forward regardless.

I am interested in continuing the server by hosting it, I administrate 3 minecraft networks and we have a dedicated server machine that could host the MotK Minecraft server with ease, we also have networks systems in place to enable 1.5-1.12 versions on the same server in parallel.

I think Minecraft has gone stale for almost everyone at this point. A major part of the problem was that nobody had been playing anymore, so there was no point in keeping the server live. It's not like someone suddenly obliterated a playground that was full of peope a day ago, it was more like no one was coming so the toys have rusted and fell apart.

I agree that minecraft has gone stale but we can make a 1.9-1.12 server have classic style PvP, food and generally use the older/classic gameplay mechanics in modern minecraft, many servers on our network do this because of player demand.

We also have some interesting plugins we could add for a large variety of danmaku style particles that players can emit. (These don't do damage!) or a magic glass carpet that appears under the player and follows them around to let them fly in survival.  These could make the ingame world a bit more unique than other plain survival servers

Interesting, but that largely went around the setup we had here. We preferred to have a vanilla-like setup (with some minor exceptions) that made nobody have to download any mods for their clients. Also, server activity was stagnant for a long time as people lost interest, moved on to other things, life, etc. Even if it were revived, you'd probably only get activity for a short while until people got bored. Minecraft is no longer in its glory days like it used to be, back when we were getting versions up to 1.0's release. I was one of the most active users on this server, and really, at the end, nobody ever logged in.

While I (probably we) appreciate the gesture, I don't think it's going to work here.

My setup wouldn't require mods either, everything is done server-side but I think with some custom plugins/games and new content it could be revived, it probably was stagnant and people lost interest because nothing new was being added to the server and like we all know minecraft was adding junk and was going downhill.  But we remove the junk minecraft adds on our network and keep the old style gameplay that everyone enjoyed while adding cool new features and commands every now and then.  I think it could be successful especially after like 2 years of absence

Whilst the endeavour is honestly rather noble, this thread and particular server instance have long past their expiration dates, and thus I will concur with Delfi and BSoD's posts.

I've made a request to lock this current thread to keep it as a historical curiosity. Maybe there will be another community server, but in my opinion, that should have its own thread.
