Reimu Quest (Part 11)
« on: May 28, 2014, 03:03:56 AM »

> Your name is Hakurei Reimu.

> You are one of the most notorious members of Gensokyo thanks to your status as the last Hakurei Shrine maiden and primary incident solver.  You are admired, hated, and loved all at once, and to be honest that can be kind of overwhelming and stressful for you sometimes.  You?re around people frequently but it can be very draining on you.  Sometimes you just want to be alone.  Although moments of silence are rare, you are comforted in the knowledge that when you let down your guard, no one will be able to take advantage of that.  Your status as the last Hakurei shrine maiden has made you untouchable.  This is because your life is intrinsically linked with the Great Barrier that surrounds Gensokyo.  If you die, then the entirety of Gensokyo will go down with you.  This fact is even more important because, as of right now, you don't have a successor.

> Lately, you haven?t been able to be as active in incident-solving as you used to be, but that?s to be expected.  Gensokyo's population has grown within the past few years, and incidents come and go--some even solved by youkai.  Although you still hold some resentment towards youkai, you?ve gotten closer to them and have even found love and friendship in their company.  It?s a bit complicated.  There will always be tension between youkai and humans, and although--or maybe because--you've got friends on both sides, you're in an awkward situation.

> You are a tea enthusiast and are fond of animals, although you?d rather not go through the hassle of keeping any pets.  You?re also quite thrifty and have taken advantage of the hot springs behind your house to earn your keep when you are not solving incidents, because let?s face it; a shrine is a difficult thing to take care of.  You?re one busy girl, but you?re not alone.  You share a room with Ibuki Suika, who you took in many years ago.  Also on the shrine grounds are the Three Faeries of Light, who you?ve recently won over and convinced to help out with shrine work.  Until the likes of them showed up, you've been alone for as long as you can remember.

--

> The year is currently 128, and summer has been upon Gensokyo for a while now.  After spending a relaxing, rainy evening at home with Suika, Akyuu, and Yukari, you awoke the next morning to find that most of Gensokyo has been submerged in water.  They sky also looks rather strange now and has a crack in it, as if it was smashed with a hammer.  In the pond of your shrine, you have found a glowing bronze shard that you have reason to believe has something to do with this incident.  On top of solving all of this, you are also trying to figure out if something has happened to your memory, as you're having trouble remembering past incidents and events.
> You have flown to Kourindou and then to the Human Village to find that its surviving inhabitants have taken refuge on the Palaquin.  You have also found the jiangshi Yoshika a distance away from the now-underwater village, and have since returned her to Seiga.
> You have gone Underground to check on Satori and the others, and found that most of the water from the surface has leaked Underground.  While there, you ran into Koishi and obtained a second bronze shard.  Suika, Yuugi, and Okuu have helped plug up the reactor and drain the rest of the water.
> You have then flown to Youkai Mountain to confront Kanako, a suspect of the incident, only to find that she has disappeared due to a sudden drop in faith.  You also learn from Suwako that Sanae has been in a deep sleep for a while now.  When you encounter her at the Kochiya Shrine, you find her enveloped in a bronze glow.  You have flown up to inspect the sky and, in one of the water bubbles, found a dolphin.  Upon trying to bring Kogasa and Sanae to the Underground in your sleeve, the Yin Yang Orb went out of control and attacked both of them.
> You have since been able to bring the dolphin and Kasen to the Palace.  While there, you discovered Kasen unconscious in the same room as Sanae and emitting the bronze glow.  When you woke her up, she reported to have a strange dream.
> You have then returned to the surface.  You have tried inspecting the crack in the sky to no avail, and then stopped by Myouren to inform Mokou of various places to dock.  You have stopped by the Forest of Magic, where you have agreed to investigate Alice?s house for a strange creature lurking in there.  You found it and beat it up, finding another shard in the process.  Afterwards, you took Alice to the Scarlet Devil Mansion.
> You found Kazami Yuuka causing trouble in the greenhouse, and took her outside for a danmaku duel.  You then returned to the mansion to have Patchouli repair Koishi?s and Alice?s books.  You?ve also reunited with Marisa at last and calmed down Flandre, who had another one of the bronze shards.  Finally, you and Meiling have plugged up the emergency exit of the nuclear reactor on the surface.  You and Marisa then parted ways, vowing to explore the incident some more.
> You sought information from the occupants of the Palace about lucid dreams.  You then went to sleep and found yourself in a strange version of Gensokyo.  After much exploring, you found Sanae and Kikuri, who was surrounded by a shell that appeared to be the same material as the shells.  You got into a fight, woke up, and then went back to sleep again.  You revisited a shrine you had found in your previous dream, and found younger versions of Kasen and Konngara.  You have exorcised a room in the shrine, found Sanae at the pond, and woke her up.
> After waking up, you?ve found that Sanae has gone missing, leaving a bloodied shard in her place.  You ran all over Gensokyo looking for her, and have finally brought her home.  While you were searching for her, you found Miko?s group and sent them to the Scarlet Devil Mansion.
> After you settled that, you returned Underground to seek out Konngara and see if she knew anything.  She recognized the shards as previously belonging to Kikuri.  You went to her [Konngara?s] shrine in search of her [Kikuri].  When you got there, you went through a vivid hallucination in which you were being strangled by Kikuri.  After going through a purification ritual, you vomited some feathers that you remember sprouting in Sanae?s dream, but according to Kikuri and Kasen, there was still something off about you.
> Afterwards, you brought Koishi to the Scarlet Devil Mansion for a playdate with Flandre.  You have also started seeing various people in search of a cause for the ?off? feeling you have, but you have found nothing.
> At the SDM, you met up with Tojiko, who informed you of a place called Crater Lake in the northern mountains.  You have visited Mayohiga in search of the Yakumos.  You have employed Marisa?s help to get tofu to lure out Ran.  You have spoken to Suwako and Sanae, and recruited them to talk to Kikuri with you.
> You have then gone home and, after many failed attempts to go to sleep, flown out to the where the Human Village is set up.  After a brief chat with Shou, you have flown to Kourindou and met up with Marisa, who has procured tofu.
> You have successfully lured out Ran with this tofu.  She has provided you with a lot of information: firstly, she detected a huge tear in the Boundary right before it started raining.  She has been spending the past few days redirecting youkai away from said Boundary and has had no time to search for Yukari or Chen.  However, she has told you have a powerful artifact that allows her to open a portal into Yukari?s gapspace, and has agreed to use it to help you find her [Yukari].
> Afterwards, you have gone to Crater Lake and discovered that it is filled with strange fish that shock you when touched.  More importantly, however, you have discovered a shard in the lake?s depths.
> You have gone to Eientei and spoken with Eirin.  You have then talked to Reisen about Kikuri.  You have recruited Eirin and Reisen to talk to Kikuri with you.
> You have then flown around Youkai Mountain, in a failed search of the Genbu Ravine.  You have then gone to the Moriya Shrine, where you ran into Rika.  You have accepted Rika?s request to find her friend Meira, and then gone to the Kochiya Shrine to find Sanae.  After talking with Sanae, the two of you have gone to the area around the Tengu Village.
> You have met Layla Prismriver.  She knows nothing about the incident but has provided you with information about a woman who she saw passing through the east woods a few decades ago.  She pointed you in the right direction, and you went on ahead by yourself towards the Border.  However, exhaustion finally caught up to you, forcing you to turn back and go home.
> You have gone to sleep and re-entered Sanae?s dream world.  There, you found a tunnel leading to what looked like space.  You then encountered the younger version of Konngara.  She told you about a woman named Hakurei Tamiko, who knew her name and where she lived for some reason.  However, she and her shrine have mysteriously vanished a few years ago in the dream world.
> You have gone to the Myouren Temple and the Human Settlement and spoken with Byakuren, Hatate, and Nazrin.  You and Nazrin have gone to look for the final shard, only to find that it is in the gap currently being created.  You have asked Nazrin to talk to Byakuren and/or Shou about coming to talk to Kikuri with you.  She has said yes.  You then reunited Meira and Rika, and the two are presumably going to go back to the Moriya?s.  After spending the night Underground, you, Orin, and Yuugi found Chen with the tsurube-otoshi and tsuchigumo.
> After returning to the shrine, you interrogated Ran and Konngara about Hakurei Tamiko.  Ran provided a lot of information about the previous Hakurei shrine maiden, but Konngara was much more reluctant and vague.
> Along with Ran, Marisa, Youmu, and Sanae, you finally visited the edge of the Boundary.  You threw a doll into the abyss, but it returned mangled with white feathers on it.
> Finally, you and Ran went through the gap she constructed.  After a brief scuffle with one of Yukari?s constructs, you go on alone and find Yukari.
> You have confirmed that Yukari has taken away your memories, and that the tear in the Boundary has been caused by Sanae?s dream world colliding with your universe.  This has misaligned Gensokyo from its proper timeline, and sent it thousands of years into the future, when the world is ending.  The Boundary is slowly deteriorating.  Yukari has put emphasis on finding a successor to reverse the damage, but you were so mad that you didn?t even listen to her.
> Yukari told you about Tamiko?s past.  She told you that Tamiko died after accumulating all her energy into the Yin Yang Orb and releasing it at once to fix the Boundary.  You then demanded she give back your memories, which she did.  The shock of nine years? worth of memories being returned to you, combined with your frustration with Yukari, led to you lashing out at her in anger.
> Yukari, perhaps sensing your intentions on following Tamiko?s steps, confiscated the Yin Yang Orb, all your shards, disabled your hammerspace inventory, and dropped you back at the shrine. You found Konngara, spoke with her briefly, and then go to Bhava-Agra.
> Attempts at finding the Dragon failed, so you sent Marisa on some errands and then got a room at the Hinanawi?s with Sanae.  The two of you went to the Dream World, and then to the tunnel leading out to the void.  There were two spheres out there: the one that is Sanae?s world, and then the one you assume is your world.  After pushing Sanae to the point of a nervous breakdown, she went off to be by herself.  She told you she needs to be awake to separate the two worlds from each other, but she doesn?t know how to cross the boundary between dream and reality.
> While alone in the dream world, you got caught in a storm and took shelter in a nearby caf?.  When the rain let up, you saw a mysterious mural on the wall across the street.  You then returned to the void, but didn?t find anything interesting.
> You returned to the road outside the tunnel, conjured up a crow with your imagination, and asked it where various people were.  The, continuing to use your imagination, you opened up a gap.  You have found Yukari, who is using the bronze shards you collected to drain the water from Gensokyo.  Yukari has also gotten her hands on Sanae, and is using her for some vague incident-solving business involving the two collided universes.
> After waking up, you returned to the SDM?injuring your wrist in the process and having to get first aid?and sought advice from Yuuka.  You then returned to the library, had some tea, and started researching the Boundary.  After doing some reading, you have gathered a list of materials and started recruiting people to help you, with the SDM as the base of operations.  Aside from everyone in the SDM, you have recruited Eirin (and possibly Kaguya), Orin, Suika and the other devas (possibly), Chen and Ran, Keine, Byakuren and others from the Myouren crew, Suwako, Mamizou, Nue, Nitori and the other kappa, Yuyuko, and most likely Marisa?who, according to Keine, has returned to the Scarlet Devil Mansion.
> You are currently at the Sanzu River, watching Komachi sail away after asking her to ask Higan for aid.

> You nod to Komachi.  She gives you a smile and reassuring wave as she sails off.  As she does so, you wonder where Kasen is.  You saw her back when you were keeping Sanae at Satori's place, but she slipped out while your backs were turned.  You're not sure where she's gone now.  Back home?  Wandering around the mountain?  It's unlikely she went to the Human Village because of certain circumstances, but you don't know any of her other usual haunts.

> You float in the water and wait for Komachi to return.  There are a few ghosts in the water, struggling against the current.  They're all swimming to the surface, presumably to free themselves so they don't get swept away.  Soon, you're alone by the riverbank.

> You wander away from the river and swim around in the clear blue water.  It won't be here for much longer, so you might as well have some fun.
> The water makes a pleasant, lulling sound as it rushes.  The current's a bit strong, but you're strong enough to endure it.  You swim away and back towards the riverbank, completely alone.  It's peaceful.  Before this incident, you've hardly had the chance to swim, and you never even learned how to until you were almost a teenager.  Perhaps you'll go swimming again when this is all over.

In theory, we've sent out feelers to just about everyone now. Best thing we could do would be to head back to SDM and see who is there and who we need to fetch. We might have to coax Yuka and the Hermits into aiding, though.

> The ground by the water's edge is sandy and dotted with rocks, so any sudden currents cause silt to cloud the water.  Beyond that is just grass.  The Sanzu River water is just like it would usually be if it wasn't flooded, but the rest of the water is flowing up and out.  In fact, you think the water level has lowered since you came here.

> There's no way to go but right across the fields where the Human Village should be, and then over the Forest of Magic.  Since the distance between the two locations isn't as far as, say, Mayohiga and your shrine, the red roof of the Scarlet Devil Mansion is soon visible.  You see some figures flying from the south, also descending towards the mansion.

>Let's approach and see how things are coming along.

> You fly on until you're over the lake, and then you fly low.
> You see that Patchouli, Alice, Sakuya, and Remilia are still out there, gathered a safe distance from the lake's edge.  Meiling is at the gate, surrounded by faeries and other various youkai.  You hear faint music coming from that direction, but more importantly, you see that some of the people you recruited are here.  Eirin is speaking with Remilia, while Kaguya is seated at the lake's edge with a few youkai rabbits.  Orin appears to be talking to Patchouli and Alice, and it looks like she was successful in bringing the three devas along.  Some faeries from Meiling's group have wandered over and are running circles around the oni; Yuugi is playfully tossing them into the air when she catches one.  You see Miko's group flying over the gates, and the descending figures you saw earlier are actually the ghost girl and Nazrin from Myouren.

>Head in through the gate, and go to Patchouli and Alice.

> You don't need to go through the gate since everyone is outside of it, but you approach Patchouli and Alice anyway.  Before either of them can talk to you, Orin waves and holds up a burlap sack.
> "I got the skulls, sis!" she cries while shaking the sack around.  Alice makes a face.
> "P-please don't announce that to the world," she says.

>"Good work, Orin!"
>"So, how are things coming along here?"

> Orin grins and holds out the sack for you to take.  "Thanks!"
> Alice nods.  "Well.  A lot of people have showed up."
> "Why did you have to bring oni here?" Patchouli asks with a cough.  Now that you're closer, you notice it looks like she's hiding behind Alice.
