Title: This Season's New Anime thread
Post by: ♛ Apher-Forte on October 03, 2010, 01:18:31 AM
Since we now need 3 threads

This be the new anime (current season) discussion thread.

IRONMAN is pretty good, just so you know.
and for those who like obscene humor like SM related subjects, crossdressing, violencing little girls you should watch MM! I have the manga, it is fucking awesome.

Panties and Stockings, overrated shit.

Jesus shit monsters on flaming ghost trains Panty and Stocking. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEpy0znKHWs)

This show just adds to the proof that GAINAX is an absolute genius at producing crazy shit. This is like fanservice in it's absolute purest form. No plot, no depth, no meaning, not even a single attempt at any of that stuff. Just pure action and crazy animation and fanservice. Basically whatever this show does, it does well.

They don't waste a single second of episode time, there is just so much shit going on at every single second that even after several watches there's still stuff you've missed. There is just a never ending stream of chaos on screen at every single moment. From people being tossed like rag dolls to the FREAKING POLICE CAR DANMAKU . I just hope that they didn't blow thier entire budget already (they probably did :V) so they can keep up this kind of animation quality throughout.

Basically the main draw for me anyways is the animation quality and style of this thing. Sure the drawings are simpler than normal anime, but I love how there is just non-stop action, which isn't somehing I haven't seen in an anime in a long time. Not only the but the pure chaos they manage is create is astounding. Obviously not much can be said about any of the other elements of the show, athough I do find Panty's sexual quips to be rather amusing in a Seitokai Yakuindomo kinda way.

Also because it's GAINAX there will probably be some LOLDEEP plot thrown in around halfway, but I'll just be watching if they can keep up the pace that they're at throughout thier entire run without having to rely on DVD releases (COUGHSHAFTCOUGH). If they can then I'll be quite impressed (but I'm doubting they can :V)

ahaha I can't believe I wrote all that just for this show what's wrong with me

I guess it's time to

I said this on IRC, I'd watch it after it has been saged, burned, thrown, broken, destroyed, after PSG ends up on the bargain bin for 2.99 a piece and comes free with a used Tenga.

Pretty much. All the animation savvy of Dexter's Labratory with tired, re-worked, half-assed anime tropes. Yawn.

Having said that, Season 2 of Arakawa any day now!

Also, I think Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, from SHAFT, looks like it has potential. And Kuragahime, just because it's noitaminA.

the reason why I won't watch it until all this 'omg its awesome' wave rolls over, I think I will reserve this season for the more mentionable shows.
namely Ironman, Soramono Forte, MM! <---- especially this, I shit you not, it is fuck awesome, also original art direction by QP Flapper.

basically MM! is about this guy's natural liking to his Masochistic tendencies, and coming to high school, he swore he wanted to change away his liking for pain for a girl he really likes whom he saw at his part time job but haven't gotten to meet her yet.

Little did he know, best friend of his asked him to approach a club that 'offers to answer the wishes of anyone who has a request for the club', there he meets a girl who is a sadist... and he becomes... attached, in more ways than one.

already did, so fair opinion: no.
I'd get it at the end of the season to just keep it just cause tho.

meanwhile
you might have seen the raw for Ore Imouto already, this is a very nice show.
I expect more, especially since the manga ran halfway and then stopped at 10 and skipped to 18 for no reason.
average slice of life? sis-con mix show? I'd watch this than Kiss x Sis anyday, seriously that shit is horrible even if all the ecchi is awesome, (actually I dunno, there is a syndrome for this thing I am feeling about shows that are so ecchi, so right, yet permanently wrong, I think I shall name it as Queens Blade Syndrome)

Welp now I'm gonna have nightmares now.

Also got to see UBW movie finally - alas it was exactly how I feared it'd be when you cram a 10-15 hours VN route into a 90 minute movie  :fail:  I can't imagine how it'd make any sense if you didn't play that route already.

At least Lancer still had his crowning moments of badassery to make up for how early he gets whacked in the other routes

I can't imagine how it'd make any sense if you didn't play that route already.

That's what I'm thinking. I've watched the first 40 minutes, and it's all awesome and stuff, but I did notice the writers skipping vast tracts of exposition. I know what's going on. Will a newcomer? Hell if I know.

Off the top of my head, it might be recommendable for someone who hasn't played UBW to watch the first two episodes of the Fate animu, as those explain everything up to ARE YOU MY MASTER?

But even after that point they still bullet train to just about EVERYTHING.

Kuzuki gets
like half of a line, but does have one HIS FISTS THEY ARE MADE OF STEEL moment at least
Rider
is on screen for like 30 seconds before she gets hosed

And I don't remember if they explain why he does it in UBW route or it's just HF but the whole
Gil ripping out Illya's heart for the grail
thing, I was watching it with MJP who had only played Fate and some of HF due to a save glitch on the DS VN reader and he was all "bwah??"

Oh I'm sorry, let me check the name of the thread. Yep, New Anime thread, and I'm pretty sure what I'm watching still counts as anime. This season? Yep, available not two days ago for non-moonspeakers. I sure do hope you're not telling me to take my discussion elsewhere, as I would be quite offended.

I also am pretty sure F/HA hasn't got an English patch yet  :ohdear:

But yeah I did think
Rider lasted longer in UBW, despite being just the one scene
(though it's been a while since I played) but I know they compressed the hell of everything that happened in school so I really should have expected that.

MM! 1 - Holy Jesus Mary Mother of God. I spent most of this episode breathing deeply (I'm a creep). As if watching Sasameki Koto wasn't bad enough for my body. S and M, Misandry, Bro-con, Son-con, AND crossdressing to top it all off.  Next week can't come soon enough. (゚A゚)

I can't decide which is worse, watching and enjoying an anime about S&M or voluntarily misinterpreting Sasameki Koto, which was far too innocent to be anything more than just that.

There really isn't that much that has interested me thus far. I've been watching Lovely Complex to fill the gap. Arakawa S2 is what I'm sure I'm watching, but I'll still be on the lookout for other things.

So. Arakawa, Sasameki Koto, and Lovely Complex in a single post. Yeah, I'm as manly as you can get.

Yeah I've gone through the majority of the list of things I wanted to see this season. Gotta say it's so far better than what the summer had to offer so I'm pretty delighted and Index S2 hasn't even aired yet  :D

Just watched the UBW movie with my friend today too, we're both Type-moon vets so we were able to keep up with the movie but man it really is a compliment to the game rather than a movie. I honestly don't think anyone who wasn't familiar with F/SN to begin with would understand whats going on since they don't even touch base on the Grail war and who the Servants are. Let a lone Heroic spirits, Noble Phantasms , ect ect. I just hope this isn't how the Nanoha movie is like, but from what I hear it isn't so thats good.

So far I've enjoyed OreImo the most but Yosuga no Sora has some promise, hope they don't try to cram too many plot lines in a 13 episode series.

MM! and Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt are pretty much in the same boat. They're both pretty fun but I'm not sure how long the novelty with last

Just waiting on World God Only knows and Index S2 to air. I'm banking on those two to be the highlights for this season for me

EDIT: Just watched Bakuman, I like that a lot too

Looks like I've found myself a new guilty pleasure. God damn it K-On, look what you've done to me. LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE. I'M GONNA BE A HUGE MOEFAG IF THIS KEEPS UP.

It's a downward spiral. See, first they pull out a show like To-Love-Ru, and they're like, "Here, just try it, it's not gonna hurt." Then before you know it you're on your back, in the gutter, watching Strike Witches or Lucky Star, robbing liquor stores just to get enough money for your next fix. It's a goddamned living nightmare. Stay in school, don't do moe.

I'm still thinking of other moeblob/drug PSA mash-ups ...

Father walks into his son's room, who is sitting on his bed with his headphones on. The father, angry, holds up a Lucky Star DVD. The son looks suddenly nervous and defensive, and takes his headphones off.

"What's this?"

"Dad, I-"

"Where did you get this?"

"Look, I was just-"

"Where did you learn to watch this stuff? Hm? Answer me!"

"From you alright! I learned it by watching you!"

Slow zoom on father's shocked, stricken face.

Parents who watch moeblob ... have children who watch moeblob ...

Parents who watch moeblob ... have children who watch moeblob ...

Fund it.

My mother tells me all the time she can't understand why I spend so much time watching those little girls with annoying voices.

When I was in high school, my mom was convinced beyond all evidence to the contrary that all anime is pornography. Either that, or she just liked to say that because she knew how much it pissed me off. Though... I'm sure the stash of drawings she eventually dug up didn't exactly help my case. Ho ho, my friend. That was one ugly night. :derp:

Your mom wouldn't be alone in that opinion. There's another website I visit, filled with otherwise intelligent, sensitive and well-informed people, and they still cannot seem to resist the tentacle rape jokes whenever the subject of anime or manga is raised.

Definitely a part of it. Also many of them are middle-aged academics who've never actually watched any anime. But because they have multiple degrees, they feel their opinion comes with a default gravitas, no matter how poorly informed they might be on any given subject. If you can frame your whithering criticism with panache, then you don't have to know what you're talking about.

God dammit chartfag, your synopsis didn't warn me about Yasuga no Sora.

Trashy show. Harem, incest, has a masturbation scene in the first fucking episode....
Just a heads up.

I can't believe you, this thing starts with a heavy does of seriousness and you are judging it already as trash?
I'd give it a few more episodes, even if it is pretty darn erotic... them tits.

also, K-On, a guilty pleasure.
Look man, if you wanna get away from K-On you should watch Rainbow, guaranteed MANLY addiction.

The World God Only Knows' first episode was pretty lackluster, I felt. I'm not really that familiar with the entire magic girl genre, so maybe that has something to do with what I felt it was kind of a jarring character introduction. Someone over at Anime News Network said that this show had a lot of potential as a concept, and could have gone the way of NHK, but pretty much ruined it. I'm not sure about that. I think there's a time and a place for every genre, but I do hope the series isn't this guy going through "here's another example of how dating sims are different from real girls", over and over again. There were parts that made me laugh, and the art is good, so if the plot stays fresh, I don't see why this couldn't be a great anime.

I love Hotori's voice. Absolutely cracks me up.

I think this is going to be one of those slow-paced flavor pieces that grow on you over the series.

The opening theme to Ika Musume, on the other hand. Dear Lord. INVASION! INVASION! INVASION! Peppy little show. Pretty funny, too.

Also: Bakuman ep.2 is up.

I think Bakuman could give even Arakawa a run for its money. It's extremely well-written and makes you care actively about the characters.

Ika Musume is just a great, mindless comedy.

SoreMachi though, I still can't get my head around. I like it, but I can see the individual episodes ending up  as stand-alone pieces, rather than there being a story that spans the series.

I don't draw manga, but between the protagonist's speech in episode 1 about how infinitesimally rare it is that someone can make a living as a mangaka, and the tragic story of his uncle's career as a manga artist - which may have ended in suicide - it didn't seem as though they were portraying the life of a manga artist as being particularly desirable.

Well, 3 series are guaranteed watches for several weeks, plus a few that can stay or go. Hence, I've enough to keep me busy. I rarely follow more than 5 at any given time since I forget names, minor plot points, etc. rather quickly for any series I don't focus too much on. One episode a day is enough. It's also the way I prefer to end the day, especially if it is a dramatic series.

So NOW I can finally recognize where that comes from.

Watched the second episode of Squid Girl, they're burning through manga chapters like gasoline soaked newspaper. They used at least five in episode two. I think the third segment wasn't as funny as It could have been, honestly, it focused a bit too much on how Ika is...though I honestly can't blame them much.

I've even been hearing rumors that she's going to be a SaiMoe contestant next year.

I'm starting to wonder about Arakawa. What made Season 1 so great wasn't just the surreal comedy, but the ongoing story about an ultra-conformist dealing with his father issues, rejecting (however reluctantly) the rigid societal pyramid he was brought up in, and learning to rely on others. So far in Season 2, no real story is emerging. I still enjoy the bizarre comic antics and all. I just hope a plot of some kind emerges.

Episode 1 of Kuragehime is finally up. And this will mark the last series I'm following this season: Arakawa Under the Bridge, Bakuman, Ika Musume, Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, and now this. Not a bad crop of series to fill the autumnal season!

Post viewing edit: This is actually not a bad show. The female otaku angle is different, and the main character is not some cute high school girl but a chubby girl with thick eyebrows. While it has some "we so crazy!" humor in there, there's some genuinely funny stuff (the jellyfish calling out to be rescued, for one), and even some touching material there, too. The comedy is paced well without going overboard. This could be pretty good.

Indeed, I am most impressed with Kuragehime, I watched it on a whim after checking out the plot summary and I am delighted to say, this is most creative, funny and the VAs are well chosen thus far. Worth checking out if you are into Paradise Kiss, Welcome to the NHK sorta thing.

Meanwhile, if you are into the Taisho era fashion and youkai stuff, Otome Youkai Zakuro is surprisingly promising. I feel it resembles a lot of Sakura Wars... maybe because of the characters~

On this week's Ginga Bishonen:

strangely, I begin to think of Star Driver as a weekly monster show now, despite its cool beginnings it hinted at poorly ran pace. I still won't give up the series tho.

Soramono Forte ep 3 is a helluva funny one, I think season 2 is better than season 1, Astrea is just be best idiot of this season. Cirno can't even touch this one. She is major stupide.

Bakuman continues to be awesome.

Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru ... I like this show more each time. I know there's no real story, which was a complaint I've made about Season 2 of Arakawa, but ... man, Hotori is such a nicely-flawed sympathetic character. The atmosphere, the dialog and the interactions for some reason keep me interested. When I figure out why I like this series I'll let you know.

Panty and Stocking : Episode 1 was great. But if they're gonna do this every time...

It's going to get old. The show is massively overrated anyway, but it's still pretty cool. If you're going to watch this, just make sure it's not the only thing you watch.

MM!: I like it. I like the surrounding topic the show is taking:

It's not just about curing Tarou's masochism, but about accepting people with certain paraphilias/phobias in general / etc... (Replace the italic with anything else, and it'll still fit)

Still have to write a post about this, but I do like the direction this is taking.

Hello, character development!!! Our male character actually seems dynamic for once!

Fortune Arterial: Interesting so far. I haven't played the visual novel, so I can't say too much about it... I might watch episode 2 later today...

The Fall Season's Lineup is quite aggressive this year. I wonder why that is. I'm enjoying mostly everything so far, and I still have more shows to check out.

'lol, I do everything the juniors asked me too and YET I AM NOT POPULAR and I AM A VIRGIN' this episode 3 has a hime cut ojousama character and I like it, kinda reminds me, this season is FULL OF HIME CUT characters.
every anime has one.

Panty and Stocking, Yosuga no Sora, even MM! has one (though is a trap), what a Hime Cut season we have.

Also, not sure if it belongs in this thread or not, but SHAFT is making a second season for Maria+Holic.

Also, Akiyuki Shinbou is apparently working on an original anime with two other notable people.

Ika Musume continues to be awesome.

Also, where Season 1 of Arakawa was about Ko, I think the angle they're going for this season is Ko and Nino. In other words, less about the dude's struggles with his daddy issues and general societal criticism, and more just a romantic comedy. Which is A-OK with me.

Also also, fun fact: Listening to P-Ko explode at Ko immediately brought another character's distinct and (to my ears) hilarious whine to mind, so I had to look it up to see if it was true - and I was right: P-Ko from Arakawa and Hotori from Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru are voiced by the same person (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiaki_Omigawa).

MAID EDIT: The first half of episode 3 was like something out of a Murakami short story. A pretty clever little detective story.

Ah yes, Arakawa S2 Ep4 reminds me of good times, the days when we still have casettes and not CDs or DVDs. This episode is just made of pure funny, and I like how it focuses so much on the odd couple this season, if they do have a season 3 I hope such antics will be kept. Angry Nino is angry.

Yeah, I like the emphasis shift onto Ko and Nino working out how to be a couple, but I think Ika Musume and Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru are my two favorites this season. I like Bakuman, don't get me wrong - episode 4 was pretty educational on the use of pens. But the pure joyful comedy of the squid girl and the surreal antics of the maid caf? are what really keep me engaged for the full 24 minutes.

Although I'm apparently the only one following it, To Aru Majutsu no Index II is better than the first. Index is actually quite useful this time despite Mikuru levels of worthlessness in season one. Also, in episode 4,
a bunch of nuns stab themselves in their ears in order to avoid one of Index's spells, which involves her singing, leaving it's listeners writhing in pain.
Apparently Index knows a few Ke$ha songs.

Also, SoreMachi continues to impress and has one of the best openers of the season. Mr. Moriaki is quite comically inflexible and close-minded.

The newest episode of Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru (a.k.a. Sore Machi a.k.a. That SHAFT Maid Caf? Anime) was simultaneously hilarious and touching. Especially Hotori's little brother being chosen by the pushy girl to go on a "date". Brought me so many funny (in retrospect) memories of going on a play date with this girl I knew in grade school.

The writing for this show keeps getting tighter and more focused. It's quite possibly my favorite this season.

Kuragehime? I watched the first ep and loved it. Then FUNimation licensed it. Now I think I'll just marathon it after it's finished airing

MM!'s Incest episode was shockingly disappointing. They just dodged it the whole dang time and went for developing Tarou's and Arashiko's relationship instead. I'mOKWithThisIGuess.jpg

Arakawa needs to go back to that Ko x Nino stuff they had going on. Not that I don't like the stuff they had the last episode; just want some more of the main couple.

SoreMachi made me realize that my childhood sucked. No girls ever talked to me nor did I have any bros to hide from. :fail:

The introduction of "Nomen Rider" made me laugh heartily.

The new Bakuman was also enjoyable. I was a bit worried that these two guys were just going to breeze right into the industry, so I was glad when their interview with the editor wasn't what they expected.

Kurage-hime continues to be great.

I don't even know why I'm following Arakawa at this point. It's like the Family Guy of anime - shake up the bag full of gags, reach in, pull some out, line them up in any order. Where Sore Machi doesn't seem to have a continuous plot, it at least has one story per episode, as opposed to 24 minutes of lolrandom stuff to look at.

Milky Holmes? Surprise of the season right there.

I dropped it after the second episode.  If they've since stopped using any jokes involving FABULOUS-SENSEI (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/Krimsun_Munkey/HorribleSubsTanteiOperaMilkyHolmes-02480pmkv_snapshot_0758_20101019_022825.png) or if they dropped the "going to school with the villains" crap in exchange for a different true villain (I feel like the show is fundamentally flawed when Milky Holmes doesn't just arrest the group during class, as they're supposedly detectives and anyone should be able to see through them, plus it's just a childish and contrived plot device that doesn't get a pass for my willing suspension of disbelief) then I might be convinced to give it a second chance.  Otherwise, I'll get my pointless moe from other superior shows.

Twenty and the rest of the Gentlemen Thieves are one of the best parts of the whole show. But they've actually started showing up less. Criminally not at all in the latest episode. THAT GUY made up for it though.  :ohdear:

But yeah, Milky Holmes is mentally retarded (
"The value of pi isn't 3, it's 3.14" "WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH SHERLOCK"
) despite being these supposedly amazing detectives. In the end, it's probably all pointless moe, so you have a point there. :x

Why have I never decided to watch GinTama until now?  It's the funniest show I have EVER SEEN!!  Every single joke is GOLD!!  It busts the fourth wall constantly, has great action, sweet characters and is ALWAYS FUNNY.  The voice actors nail every line perfectly!  I just finished episode 7 and I've never laughed so constantly at an anime before!

Hey hey, watch this video :  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PerHSGgdAaw

On another note ; that clip from Panty & Stocking [on page 1] looked completely ridiculous... but the ending...was awesome.  I will check that out.

Ep 26 was only subbed about a month ago so I might get away with posting this here:

So I finally bit the concentrated sugar pill bullet and marathoned K-ON!(!) I don't really care for moe shows / anything KyoAni have put out to date so I wasn't expecting much, but it was actually pretty great. Vibrant without being nauseatingly so, no real dislikeable characters, superb aesthetics (unsurprisingly) and somehow capable of holding my attention for 40 eps despite not a great deal happening. OPs/EDs were hot as well, though it's going to take surgery to remove the songs from my head.

Mugi > Mio > Yui = Azusa > Ritsu
Don't Say Lazy = NO, Thank You > Cagayake GIRLS > Listen > GO GO Maniac > Utauyo Miracle

Looking forward to the movie.

Arakawa 7: I am now in love with Jacqueline's voice.

Star Driver 7: More fabulous, less me knowing what the hell is going on plotwise. :derp:

Ore no Imouto 7: I thought Kirino was just a straight up bitch at this point. But that dere. One hit KO.

Incidentally, I just finished Eden of the East.

Kuragehime is just beating out SoreMachi as my fave for the season full of good comedies. I mean, the girls from the Nunnery are as socially inept as all hell and ugly as sin yet I love them all. Of all the characters, Kuranosuke is the only one who I just can't bring myself to like. Probably because he's cross-dressing for attention, and because my idea of 'fashion' was always a polo shirt and a pair of khakis. Also, Nicole Richie is just... Please don't bring up Nicole Richie in anything ever.

Also, I've been falling asleep before I intend to go to bed lately, so I've been skipping out on my daily episode, which I typically enjoy just before bed. I need to catch up! :<

the way she hugs that box of play-your-own-porno and smiled... I cannot HNNGGHH but GET REMINDED OF HOW I USED TO BE.

but finding out the sheer purity of Kuroneko-san~ made me cry tears of joy... she is so.... caring, and motherly... and.... totally unlike your typical loli character....

Exactly. Kirino is a representation of NEET otaku. If you're watching this show, Kirino is YOU. All the Kirino-haters are hating on themself, and they don't even fucking realize it. The series is a heavy commentary on contemporary otaku culture, and all the people who immediately self-identify as Kyosuke and start to go moe for Kuroneko are so dense that they can't realize that they are the ones being criticized.

As someone who gets what it's actually about, it's fucking hilarious to watch Kirino-haters rage at themselves.

Plot thickens in Hyakka finally. Yay!
are we talking about Hyakka Ryouran?
because Gisen is amazing, I love her ice ability. Though just as I expected, Charles d'Artagnan is indeed a power to be reckon with.

Oh, I always loved Hotori. Hard not to like the same girl who's voiced by P-ko in Arakawa.

Delicious voice is delicious, hers and Kuroko's mark my favorite seiyuu's best impression. in anime, and

Quote from: Nutbladder
This episode is about:
A concept the editor?s never heard of
Obfuscated by the translator being a nonsensical artfag
Blurred by the protagonist mostly faking his understanding
And completely subverted by the in-show ?expert? making their take up out of whole cloth.

And those are the parts that aren?t in terrible, terrible French.

tl;dr we are fated to almost just give the fuck up on every ep 9 of this show.

I love fansub drama.

The first half of ep. 9 was pretty meh, but the second half was hilarious for its satirical take on both Japanese who fetishize the West and traditionalists, especially given how subjective the whole concept of wabi-sabi is.

Bittersweet and yet had a wonderful balance of both. The episode itself had a much darker tone than the rest of the series which was quite lighthearted and yet it still worked perfectly.

For me it's how they resolved everything without any bs. There weren't any huge OHSHITMYHEAD twists and yet they were all important. Nisioisin focus when he writes is clearly on character and he really brought out the true potential of each at the very end.

Yeah.  It was pretty nice how he ended it like that.  I agree with the fact that he put a lot of thought into the characters too.  For me, the biggest part of an anime ending is the amount of closure and I think that he tied everything up quite nicely.

Eh, not sure about that. Maybe in the sense that it's a mostly female cast. But Kuragehime is about the nature of beauty; what makes a person beautiful. It deals frankly with sexuality and gender roles without being snide or infantile. And it also has a very charming central cast of nerdy girls who break gender stereotypes. It's intelligently and humorously written.

Just my humble opinion.

Favorite show of the season by a nose. In terms of the main characters, Tsukimi is almost a new personal favorite, though Kuranosuke (now a new Pad-chou) is hard to get used to and the crossdressing has nothing to do with it.

I feel bad for Shu. Nearly 20 years of fearing women and then he gets blackmailed by one for naughty stuff he had no involvement in. Also, another cute girl with a strange fixation. Jiji-sama and her old guys. It's not quite as oddly frustrating as Ohno and bald guys, but whatever.

The manga for it will be made around the same (http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g58/Dark_Evangel666/558749282010121408162402.jpg) time (http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g58/Dark_Evangel666/5587492820101214081710088.jpg).

I don't know how to feel about this. On part of me says "the designs look really crappy, this is gonna suck". Another says"not to judge a book by it's cover, the staff seems okay." Somewhere, I just annoyed at their treatment of 5Ds and abrupt ending of the Yugioh Gx manga.

Advertising the card game I guess. 5Ds wasn't half bad though(many say it's the best out of the 3, I heavily reccomend episodes 1-65.) However as things went on, the advertising became too blatant, even for a merchandising anime like 5Ds.It's okay right now, but I just feel that it would be so easy for them to do so much better.

I dunno about a second season.

WARNING: Massive spoilers ahead.
First of all, there are
a bunch more captures
, then the plot really begins to pick up after
the introduction of Tenri/Diana and the godesses
, then finally
the devils' uprising and how all these things tie in together
.

SKIP THE SPOILERS: If they did a second season, it'll have to be longer and contain more of the plot than just what it has done so far in order to keep it going. Don't get me wrong, I like the show and I just want to give Shiori a gigantic hug (she's my favorite btw). It's just that any deviation or skipping over (for the most part) would take away from the already-great storyline that the manga follows.

Also, on the topic of World God, I like the fact that they didn't really shy from the manga a lot.  I'm pretty sure even that filler episode was from the manga.

Just finished Kuragehime ep. 9. I think things are coming to a head with Shu's lady troubles. The exposure may very well end up hurting that awful land shark. I hope he decides a spine would be a good idea and comes up with some cerebral form of vengeance in order to spook her out of her extortion plans.  Not gonna happen, but I'd love to see it. That harpy has scarred poor Tsukimi, too.

Also, Jiji-sama really is a pervert for old men. Like, 60's+ old. Bluh. I watch some stuff and it turns me off because of weird stuff like this, but old men? BLUH.

Ika Musume is over, so I have nothing to do now but maybe watch old things.

I'm pretty satisfied with the final episode, although I'll obviously pull for a second season/series. :>

I almost hope they don't do a second season, but I guess there's a lot of material for one. This was probably one of the best series this season. Just pure fun.

Final episodes of Arakawa (which will probably end with an episode interchangeable with any other episode), Bakuman (Lemme guess: cliffhanger?), and SoreMachi (for some reason, I'm seeing a "twist" ending, something kinda light and clever, like "dice paintings") pending.

Kuragehime seems to be taking its sweet time - four episodes to go yet.

Ah I dread the curtain closing on this season, but maybe the winter will have some nice surprises.

And then there's the confirmed S2 next fall. Since Bakuman is over 100+ chapters to my knowledge and they're only on what, chapter 15 at the moment? :x

SHAFT has done an adskfjl; amount of S2s, I wouldn't be shocked if it got one but I wouldn't deny being excited as all hell if it did happen.

In Strike Witches, you must switch off the part of your brain that is regarded to pants. The reason being that in THEIR WORLD, PANTS ARE SACRILEGE.
PLEASE RESPECT THE WORLD VIEW as you would for DBZ, where everyone is either a SAIYAN or eventually will become one on par with that level of power.

I watched the entire season. I did keep wondering about the wardrobe issue but once you get over that, the anime is pretty enjoyable and funny. Especially that one episode of the girls stealing eachother's underwear xD

Welp, that's it for Arakawa, whose final episode had more endings that Return of the King, it seemed. I don't know about you guys, but it didn't seem as though the writers really tried very hard with this episode. Nor did they bother touching on what brought Ko under the bridge in the first place. But I guess that's to be expected, considering what this season of Arakawa's been like. The guy from Cart Driver put it best:
Quote
There?s an anime series air?ing right now called Arakawa Under the Bridge X Bridge. It?s a pretty amus?ing story about a bunch of mis?fits liv?ing under a bridge. It?s worth a pop if you want some laughs and like absurd?est humour. Some people seem to think it?s a sequel to Arakawa Under the Bridge, and I can cer?tainly under?stand where the con?fu?sion lies. They have sim?ilar names and sim?ilar char?ac?ters, with pretty much the same premise. How?ever Bridge X Bridge isn?t related. I guess it drew inspir?a?tion from the former and likes to think of itself as a sort of altern?ate uni?verse ver?sion of Arakawa under the Bridge, but it?s not a sequel.

If it was a sequel (and it?s not) it would be an exer?cise in slowly unrav?el?ling everything that was good about the first sea?son. This may be hard to under?stand from the cas?ual fan, but for someone who got so absorbed by the nar?rat?ive in Arakawa Under the Bridge, tak?ing this as a sequel would be hor?rible. The points are so little that men?tion?ing them almost feels silly. Little things, like Whitey?s wife being under?stand?ing of his pre?dic?a?ment, care?fully peel?ing away the idea that people were escap?ing to the soci?ety under the bridge, which is what the first sea?son spent so much time care?fully con?struct?ing. These points build up and up, tear?ing away everything I loved about the first sea?son, leav?ing a mess of a com?edy with no under?ly?ing struc?ture bey?ond it?s absurd?est baseline.

That is, if it was a sequel. Which it?s not. Just so we?re all on the same page here.

On the plus side, the spring season for anime looks promising, but that's a whole other story.

The guys just need to get back to doing the Jesus X Buddha joke comics, seriously Saint Young Men need to be made into an anime and Arakawa despite needing a season 3, could be stalled for the time being. It was a really nice ending tho.

Ah, the final episode of Kuragehime. As always, what a pleasure. Combined humor, sentiment and a great big question mark (which I really hope means a second season).

That leaves Bakuman for me, which has what, 12 more episodes? For me this fall, my favorites have been, in order of preference:

1. Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru

2. Ika Musume

3. Kuragehime

4. Bakuman

5. Arakawa Under the Bridge

I'm glad Bakuman will be there to tide me over through the dismal winter season (and of course I need to finish Bakemonogatari) but man, am I sad to see those top three end. That was some really excellent work. But as in life, new seasons of anime bring on new pleasures to explore.

SPRING SEASON EDIT: Not making a thread on the spring season yet, as none of the release dates have been announced and the winter season hasn't even started yet, but I was checking out the chart for this spring (http://thecartdriver.com/spring-2011-anime-chart-v1/spring-2011-v1/) and something jumped out at me. Namely, a show called Electromagnetic Wave Woman and Adolescent Man (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=9379).

The title just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? Well, it's coming from SHAFT, and is being directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, the same guy behind Arakawa, Sore Machi, and Pani Poni Dash. That means that it's going to be awesome by default.

There are other shows this spring that also look intriguing. Might even give Fall 2010 a run for its money.
