> Well, no sense in us being the only ones out here. Let's return to the library.

> You retreat into the library before the tengu reporters can get to you.
> Inside the mansion, the faerie maids seem busier than ever.  What looks like the entire staff has crowded around the greenhouse and is filing in carrying brooms, rakes, sheers, and other supplies.  Most have covered their mouths and noses with towels.  There is piano music coming from somewhere at the other end of the room.  You don't see Marisa, so you assume she has made it to the library already.
> When you reach the library, you see that Patchouli is still absorbed in the books.  In particular, Alice's Grimoire.  You notice the book you gave to her floating in the air, suspended by a magic circle.  It still looks slightly damp, but in much better condition than when you first opened it underwater.

> "The books will be fine," Patchouli says, not looking at you.  "It should be ready soon."
> She's moving over the pages of Alice's Grimoire with her fingertips, tracing shapes into them.  The wrinkled pages smooth themselves out and the smudged ink comes back.  She pauses to catch her breath before resuming the drying process.

>"Eh, sure."
>Meander that way and browse around along the way.

> You leave Patchouli to her devices and stroll through the bookshelves.  The SDM's librarian, all things considered, is impeccably organized: she has her books organized by element or subject and alphabetized by author.  Most of the books have titles in languages you don't understand.  Colored slips of plastic stick out from between volumes, no doubt keeping place for whatever books Patchouli has out at the moment.  You pass by Alice, who had scaled a ladder to reach one of the top shelves.  You wonder why the library even has those things when everyone can fly, anyway.
> When you reach the basement door, you see that it has been carelessly left open.  The metal door at the end of the hallway has been propped open by a door stopper.

>But rather than do this, browse through the nearby books until Koakuma returns or the screaming starts.

> The urge to run down the hall and kick down the stopper is nigh impossible to contain.
> Fortunately, you manage to restrain yourself.  In the meantime, you hit the shelves and crack open a book titled "The Thousand Uses of Moonstone" and wait.  This particular book is full of magical jargon but it's simple enough for a non-magician like you to enjoy it.  As you read, you hear girlish chattering echoing from down the hall.  Minutes pass and pages are flipped.  You zone out for a few minutes, but you are quickly snapped out of it by a short scream you're certain belongs to Patchouli's familiar.

>"Oh for the love of..."
>Replace book, steel self and head down, unless more encouraging noises soon follow.

> Never a moment of peace, is there.
> You put the book back--probably in the wrong place, you don't care--and descend into the basement hallway.  You slip past the door and make your way into Flandre's room.
> Although Flandre is basically a prisoner in her own house, you can't deny she has it good down here.  Her room is fully furnished with a four-poster bed, a dresser, a sofa and chairs, a tea table, and a toy chest.  The walls are made of stone with lit lanterns in each corner.  The rug is plush and tastefully colored a wine red.
> The littlest vampire is kneeling on her bed, wearing a red nightgown and looking ready to lunge.  Her wings are unfurled, and all seven colors of her wing gems glow intensely in the gloom.  However, there appears to be an extra, familiar-looking jewel that doesn't quite match the others.
> Koakuma is cowering near the doorway with her hands over her head, shaking.  Bits of debris from the hole in the wall above her have fallen into her hair.  As you enter the room, your foot nudges something.  Looking down, you realize it is a very well-crafted doll with dark hair and pinkish-purple clothes.  However, its left arm appears to be dislocated.
> On the other side of the doorway, Marisa stands with her gaze trained on Flandre.  You see that she's holding her mini hakkero behind her back.  All eyes are on you now as a tense silence hangs in the air.

> Flandre may be difficult to deal with, but if you catch her in a good mood she is very docile.  However, it requires a great deal of diplomacy to placate her without resorting to force.  If you do end up fighting her, it's going to be worse than Yuuka's battle.  Yuuka's not an easy opponent, at least she's mature and knows how to control herself.

>The extra jewel is another shard of our seal, isn't it?

> It is.  It's between the yellow and orange jewel on her left wing.
