Life and death are without purpose.  Our attempts to give them one are quite presumptuous of us.  But in the end, we exist, and that is enough.

> Ichirin: Question morality of greeting fairies with EXTREME TOLERANCE.

Good question. Should you really come down on them like the hammer of the gods just for commiting the crime of being fairies on a sunny day? You decide to use your DETECT ALIGNMENT class feature to determine their intent.

The fairies are on the deep end of the TOMFOOLERY AXIS of the ALIGNMENT GRID. They are almost certainly up to no good. Yeah, you think you're in the clear.

> Ichirin: Use BUDDHATECH - PATH, NOBLE EIGHTFOLD.

You randomly tap into one of the EIGHT ASPECTS that will guide you down the path to ending suffering. Yours, not the fairy's.

Wheel of Dharma, turn turn turn. Teach us the lesson that we should learn!

You land on the FIRST ASPECT, RIGHT VIEW.

Right view is placed first because right view is the eye that guides and directs all the other factors. In the practice of the path, we need the vision and understanding supplied by right views, in order to see the way to travel along the path. Then we need the other factors, conduct or practice, in order to bring us to our destination.

Right view is placed at the beginning of the path to show that before we can set foot on the actual practice, we need the understanding provided by right view, as our guide, our inner director, to show us where we are starting from, where we are heading, and what are the successive stages to be passed through in practice.

Usually the Buddha defines right view as the understanding of the Four Noble Truths: suffering, the origin, its cessation and the way to its cessation. To follow the path right from the start we need a correct perspective on the human condition. We have to see that our lives are not fully satisfactory, that life is impermanent, that it is subject to suffering, and we have to understand that suffering is something that we have to penetrate by means of knowledge, something that we have to conquer, and not something we should escape from by pain removers, entertainment, distractions or dull forgetfulness.

At the deepest level we have to see that all things that make up our being, the five aggregates, are impermanent, constantly changing, and therefore cannot be held to as a basis for security or unchanging happiness. Then we have to see that the cause of Dukkha lies in our own mind. Nobody is imposing it on us. We cannot put the blame outside ourselves. It is through our own craving and clinging that we produce suffering and pain for ourselves. Then when we see that the cause of the Dukkha lies in our own mind, we understand that the key to liberation too lies in our own mind. That key is the overcoming of ignorance and craving by means of wisdom. Then, to enter the path, we need the confidence that by following the Noble Eightfold Path we can reach the goal, the cessation of suffering.

The Buddha defines right view as the understanding of the Four Noble Truths for a very important reason, namely, that he does not want his disciples to practice his teaching merely out of feelings of devotion. Rather, he wants them to follow the path on the basis of their own understanding. Their own insight into the nature of human life.

O, the world of Dharma is filled with light. The Right View fills your eyes with DIVINE POWER.

BEHOLD! OPTIC BLAST!

Unzan's DUAL DUEL ability procs! You score a 2x BUDDHATECH COMBO! On top of that, you roll a CRITICAL HIT for MAXIMUM DAMAGE!!

FAIRY A'S Focus Sash breaks. It survives with 1 HP.

FAIRY A'S turn! It uses FLOWER SCOUR to fire petal bullets at you, but you use NYUUDOU-PARRY to block it.

> Kyouko: Do something loud.

You cannot give commands to Kyouko! She does not have PURPLE HAIR. You need a GREEN COMMAND INTERPRETER for that. Your PURPLE COMMAND INTERPRETER only works on characters with PURPLE HAIR or that are otherwise strongly associated with the CONCEPT OF PURPLE.

Fortunately, she had the same idea anyway. Kyouko attempts to finish FAIRY A off with ECHO CHAMBER, trapping the fairy in one of her signature ECHO BARRIERS and firing bullets into it!

FAIRY A uses AUTO-FAIRY to block the attack, using her friend as a shield! FAIRY B takes the hit instead! FAIRY B is defeated!

Witnessing this CASUAL ACT OF TREACHERY is heartbreaking! Kyouko is DEMORALIZED!

It's your turn again.

> Ichirin: PULVERIZE.

You inform the fairy that the pain it is about to receive is the work of the KARMA it has brought upon itself.

> Unzan: Iron Fist 「 An Unarguable Youkai Punch 」.

You send the fairy to its respawn room for the rest of the day to think about what it's done.

You have won the battle!

- You get 2x FAIRYBUCKS. You keep a stack of these in your room, but you have no idea what you can even use these to buy. You've never seen a fairy actually use them.
- You get 1x FOCUS SASH. Equipping this UNFASHIONABLE ACCESSORY will prevent you from being knocked out in one hit. This will let you survive one additional round against an opponent you have no chance of defeating!

> Ichirin: Comfort Kyouko.

You hug Kyouko until she works her sniffles out. This poor girl is simply not suited to the HORRORS OF WAR.

> Ichirin: Compose post-battle thoughts.

For some reason ALL SORTS OF STRANGE QUESTIONS tend to pop into your head during a fight. You should really work on your focus.

> Ichirin: Consider personal combat skill.

You've been training with Shou and Minamitsu, but you're still not quite as good as either of them, much less Unzan. You need more practice, but you could beat a low-level youkai with your martial arts alone.

> Ichirin: Consider demeanor in battle and popularity implications.

You used to walk into battle with a GOOFY SMILE much like EVERYONE ELSE IN GENSOKYO, but then you read a book on the subject of PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE during competitions. Your current no-nonsense scowl is what is known as a GAME FACE, designed to intimidate your opponent. You're not really sure if it works, though.

Your popularity isn't so much an issue as much as trying to get others to respect you, and by extension, the Myouren Temple.

> Ichirin: Think about Nue.

NUE HOUJUU is almost more trouble than she is worth. Her INCORRIGIBLE PRANKSTERISM is distressing for both you and the visitors to the temple. It is clear that she has NO INTEREST IN BUDDHISM but at least she is sincere about helping Byakuren because she has been a VICTIM OF YOUKAI OPPRESSION in the past. She did also bring Mamizou aboard, who has been considerably more helpful, so there's that.

This train of thought causes you to

> Ichirin: Think about Mamizou.

MAMIZOU FUTATSUIWA is a SHAMELESS FREELOADER. She conveniently disappears whenever there are chores to be done (today, for instance) and goes through a significant amount of the temple's good alcohol, much to Minamitsu's chagrin. She does make up for it by bringing home dinner once or twice a week, and her presence has SIGNIFICANTLY BOLSTERED the temple's defensive capabilities. She's at least as strong as Shou, and her danmaku is downright trippy. She's also pretty friendly with the human clientele and good at verbally disarming the hakutaku. Overall, you'd rather have her around than not.

> Ichirin: Consider learning AUTO-FAIRY.

That would be INCREDIBLY SILLY. You already have NYUUDOU-PARRY, one of the best AUTO-PARRIES in the game! AUTO-FAIRY is awfully situational, by comparison.

Wait, what were you doing again?

> Ichirin: Evaluate Nue's tactical value.

Nue usually helps the rest of you drive away THOSE PESKY TAOISTS if she's around, but she's not much of a fighter. You and Unzan could beat her, to be honest. Mamizou, on the other hand, was able to get rid of Marisa by herself.

What Nue really contributes is her ability to shapeshift and spy on the other youkai factions. She regularly reports to Byakuren about rumors she's seen or heard. You're not sure how valuable or reliable this information is, though, since those reports are private.

> Ichirin: Have Unzan help Kyouko and go back inside.

Unless you want him to sweep with his beard, there isn't much he can do, but he agrees to stay and keep her company while you get ready.

You go back to the living area of the temple. Shou is in the foyer, fretting over something, as usual.

For some reason you get the sense that you're not seeing colors correctly. You step outside and fire some danmaku to check.

Nope, there's a green, blue, and purple laser there. Everything looks normal. You get the strangest ideas sometimes! Next you'll be wondering whether you have a nose or not.

> Ichirin: Be Byakuren.

The type of COMMAND INTERPRETER required goes by volume, so you need a BRUNETTE COMMAND INTERPRETER to play as Byakuren. The only command you can give Byakuren with your PURPLE COMMAND INTERPRETER is "Namusan".

At least this system is an improvement over the last version, in which you would have needed both a PURPLE COMMAND INTERPRETER and a BRUNETTE COMMAND INTERPRETER to do anything. Keine was practically unplayable.

> Ichirin: Ask Shou what she lost this time.

Shou tells you that she can't the other one of her favorite JEWELED PAGODA EARRINGS that she wants to wear to the party and that she CAN'T FIND NAZRIN ANYWHERE and that THIS IS JUST TERRIBLE!

You tell her that it is perfectly fashionable to wear just one earring.

Shou tells you that she can't remember which side implies that the wearer is gay, and worries that she will get it wrong and that people will think she is straight!!
