>Take the map, pay the rent.

>"It's alright, I've learned some light magic."

>Might as well try if it is possible to create an orb of light on our hands right now.

>You give Nue 500☼.
>You obtain: Map of Western Underground.
>You take a moment to concentrate and draw upon the Blue Gem's power while Nue is counting the money. It responds eagerly, and you feel the power pooling and tingling in your palms, then coalescing into a small sphere of light. You realize, however, when you stop concentrating upon the sphere, it'll begin to fade away. But you also feel it you let the gem itself shine, you wouldn't have to concentrate to maintain the glow.
>"Neat trick," Nue says.

> Now can we ponder potential partners?

>Yeah sure.
>You ponder who you might be able to get to help you that would also be helpful. Patchouli is too busy researching on your behalf, and you suspect Remilia would probably make things worse. Eirin is busy, and while Kaguya is certainly skilled in defending herself, you don't know if she would be a good hunter. You can't imagine anyone underground would help you, given the thing's reputation. Youmu might help, but she is some distance away, and Yuyuko might not allow for it. You doubt anyone on Youkai Mountain would care to come down here, and the people in human town have their own individual issues to deal with.
>There's a couple possibilities, but none of them see especially bright. Youmu and Remilia seem most likely. The other problem is that you aren't used to fighting along side others, save for your old squad. Gensokyoans certainly don't fight like that. As well, you really aren't too used to the gems yet, you aren't certain if it would be a good idea to work with others until you are. And they would also have to hold back on your behalf, likely.

> Dismiss the idea of a partnership for now.
> Head for the outskirts of the Underground City.
> Take off sunglasses before heading into the tunnels.

Apparently, Thomas the Tank Engine isn't one to take crap from anyone.

>You follow the the map's directions, and come to the Northwestern part of town. To the South a bit, you can see the revitalized neighborhood where The Felt lays. Ahead of you, to the west, you see a tunnel leading away from the Ancient City, and into the gloomier depths of the Underground. Without a proper light, it will be hard to see. Obvious exits are east, west, and south.
>You remove your Pair of Dark Glasses. It alleviates the problem of the darkened tunnels a little bit, but you're still going to need some light it.

> We can just use the light sphere from the sapphire can't we?
> If affirmative, press on towards the tunnels.

>Indeed you can, it is merely a matter of using it.
>You head into the tunnels, and let the gems float freely again. With a thought, the Blue Gem begins to shed a steady light, brightening the cavern around you and giving you than enough light to read the map by.
>You begin to pick your way through the tunnels, referring to the map often. Thankfully, the terrain usually isn't too bad, and you're able to fly over the few rough spots that you find. the tunnels twist and contract sometimes widening into chambers and periodically narrowing enough that you have to turn sideways to slip through. Thankfully, aside from panicking some bats at one point and periodically having to push through some cobwebs, you don't run into anything remotely dangerous. Really, the only danger is losing your way after making the fifth or twelfth turn.
>You spend perhaps half an hour picking your way through the tunnels, before you draw close to the darkened area on the map. You find yourself faced with a choice. Do you take the northwestern or southwestern tunnel into it? Both seem to be equally accessible, but the northwestern route seems like it will take you slightly longer to get to.
