You are absolutely right, P.

>Have we noticed any obvious signs of mice aboard ship since we came on?

>"Hey, I run a clean ship here!" she protests with a scowl. There is a moment's pause, then her expression gives way to an awkward sheepishness as she seems to realize the implication of her statement. "Um, uh... no offense?"

>You give Murasa a long, unwavering look. She frowns a little awkwardly and then actually seems to shrink a little in her discomfiture as you refuse to even blink. It is oddly satisfying at the moment.
>"I, um..." She seems to struggle a moment for the right words, eventually settling for an uncertain "...okay?"

>To the hold!

>You turn and head back out of the cabin and toward the stairs that you assume lead down to the hold. Murasa trails for a moment, but recovers herself quickly enough once you start going and retakes the lead. You pay no attention to the redhead as you make another pass of the deck, and follow Murasa down the slatted wooden steps.
>The first flight of stairs lands in a narrow hallway, lit by incandescent globes set along the walls. You can see several doors along the hall and the corridor itself seems to branch at a t-junction after a little distance. The aesthetic is plain, but tidy - largely bare finished wood with some minor metal detailing. Something about the space feels just a little confined, but not uncomfortably so.
>Murasa continues descending down a second flight of stairs and you follow after her. As you pass beneath the deck, the stairwell opens up into a broad and largely undifferentiated space, stretching from one side of the ship to the other. It is packed densely with large shipping crates and barrels and irregular forms covered over with tarps. You can quickly discern a general organization of similarly shaped containers grouped together in different parts of the floor plan, though the sheer amount of cargo obscures sight to some parts of the hold. Still, there's enough empty room to suggest this isn't a full load. Looking along the ceiling, you can see a shaft that pierces through the roof of the hold, probably leading back up to the large hatch you saw from the deck; you suspect it's used to winch cargo down when loading or unload. Somewhat further down, you can also see a few walls partitioning the rest of the area.
>"Well, here she is," Murasa says. "Not sure whether I'm s'posed to hope you find one, or hope you don't."

>Have we ever done time as a city mouse, back in the old days? Or was it all in the wilds.

>You remember only vague snatches of your former existence, little more than a half-remembered dream, but you awakened to youkai-hood in the fields outside Easthaven and are fairly certain you spent most of your previous life there. Perhaps you ventured into the village at some point, but certainly nowhere urban.

>Assess potential effectiveness of our fighting style in the corridors and stairways we just passed through.
>Did we sense anything out of place on the way down, or anything even remotely similar to what we sensed in Murasa's cabin?
>Sniff air.
>Sweep hold with treasure sense.

>Did we sense anything out of place on the way down, or anything even remotely similar to what we sensed in Murasa's cabin?
>Sniff air.
>Sweep hold with treasure sense.

>The corridor on the deck above is narrow enough that you might have difficulty using your maneuverability to your advantage; you think a larger person could effectively block it off and there's certainly no space to dance around someone. The stairway is wider and mostly lacks a banister; you think you could keep your footing on it more easily in a melee than most people could, or swing over the side in a pinch.
>You sensed nothing unusual, though there's no way you could detect a magical signature like that without dowsing.
>You take a sniff of the air. There is a distinct bouquet of fruit aromas in the air, though it smells most heavily of wood at the moment. You can also sense the sharp tinge of metal, as well as oil, leather, and a variety of more subtle smells. The smell of fruit is less powerful than you would have suspected from looking at the manifest, but it's possible that it's mostly stowed on the far side of the hold.
>You sense nothing particularly treasure-like down here at the moment. There's clearly a ton of money tied up in all this cargo, but probably no individual item is very precious.

>Head toward the fruit and away from the oil smells, if at all possible. Keep an eye open for damaged wood at floor level, mouse droppings, and any other sides of our rodent cousins.

>You make your way across the hold in the general direction of the strongest fruity scents, moving through the aisles left between the stacks of crates and other cargo. The oil does seem to be stored near the stairs - possibly part of the ship's own supplies - so it takes little effort to simultaneously move away from it. As you proceed, you scan the floor and containers for signs of damage, and keep your senses alert for the more immediate signs of a mouse's presence; you could pick up one's trail by scent without a need for any visual evidence. You see Murasa also running her eyes along the cargo as you walk; it's a little hard to tell if this is idle or nervous. Either way, the worst damage you spot to any of the wood was clearly not caused by a mouse unless they've started wielding mallets. A long rectangular crate is marred by a pronounced splintering from a roughly circular impact - quite obvious, but not enough to break the the wood entirely. The labeling stamped on it suggests this is one of the crates of rivets.
>Eventually, your walk takes you upon a large array of barrels and slatted crates of oranges and kiwis and other fruit. You inspect this area more closely, circling around the clusters of them more than once, but it doesn't smell like any mouse has been around them recently at least. You're pretty sure this isn't all the fruit on-board, though. At least, you'd be surprised if the volume present on the manifest was only this large in person.
>Here at the rear of the hold, the space starts to be partitioned off into several rooms. A couple protrude from the sides of the ship, almost like outbuildings, and the far side is walled off entirely, with large doors.

>"Any other food stored around?"

>"Well, the rest of the fruit's back in cold storage," she says, jerking a thumb in the direction of one of the large doors at the rear. "As much as we could fit, anyway. And I suppose there's the pantry, but there sure as hell better-" She stops abruptly; her mouth holds the shape of the next word for the moment, then slowly closes. Something seems suddenly interesting among the complete mundanity of the apple barrels.

>None that you could pin it on for sure, at least; you suspect few people that disliked you for that reason would be brazen enough to say so directly. On the other hand, you remember a couple encounters where someone kept glancing at you as though they expected to you start gnawing on the furniture at any moment. It was a little... irritating.

>You see nothing other than nondescript barrels of apples. To be fair, she didn't seem to be looking at a specific spot, but rather pausing to go back to scanning the hold in general.
