Still in the Top 5 of Topics Started and Posting, awww yeah. Helepolis and I were neck-and-neck for a while there, but it looks like he surged ahead.

Yeah but seriously, displaying that stuff under your avatar or something as a badge of honor would be weird. And Dormio, as we know, actually lives in a space station orbiting Neptune with nothing else to do but post on MotK.

So, when SMF registers a new message by Dormio, it happens ~4 hours after he presses "Post"? And then it takes another 4 hours for replies to fly back?
8-hour lag seems like a great deal.
He must be using predition magic to post ahead.

Per user request, I have made the "Show others my online status" toggle showing your last active time in your profile. If you have that option unchecked, people cannot see your last active time, they will see "Hidden" instead. Staff will still be able to see your activity time regardless (as they can see your true online/offline status anyways). Prior to this, people could still infer your activity by looking at your profile and your last active time, even when you marked yourself as being invisible.

Ability to upload a whole bunch of avatars that would then randomly rotate.

You do realize it only replaces yours right, so you're only uploading a new avatar and replacing your old one.

Hm? I think I need to elaborate.
Instead of a single avatar, each user is given a space for several images, with the ability to add new ones and remove existing.
Then, on the forum itself, instead of a direct link an <img> would lead to a script like the current one, that would choose a random picture from the corresponding user's set of avatars.
...So, if we were on the same page all along, yes, I do realize.

Not like it's of much use however.

No, because that would massively increase the storage requirements per user for avatars, since all avatars are stored server side for reliability/security reasons. I've been considering even moving signatures to server side but I'd definitely do that over allowing multiple avatars to be rotated through.

Not exactly a feature, but a rule: Is there a rule against multi-accounting?

During my inactivity here, I was in another forum where mods are vigilant about this, since a lot of abuse can be done with multiple accounts. (e.g. Dodging bans and messing up polls)

Also, how about a thread where (usually new) members can test out bbcode? Or at least a sticky that demonstrates bbcode usage.

Is "preview post" too advanced of a move for this?

Dodging bans is expressly prohibited wait that was another community. For other purposes... well, what use a second accout there would be of? I have yet to see a serious poll, and approximately everything about an account - including login, nickname and forgotten passwords - may be changed with admins' help.

Aside from dodging permabans (which some troublemakers might do), I recall users making new accounts to forge new identities which is pretty cowardly. Then again, the forum I hailed from has its influx of immature "teenagers" every now and then. :V

We don't particularly care if you multibox as long as you're not obviously sockpuppetting or otherwise causing trouble, but it's not very clever and very easy to track people down. Dodging bans and probations is a very quick ticket to permaban.

Would it be possible to increase the character limit of the report post to moderator thingie a little? I realize my english isn't very good and having to shorten what I'm saying must make it even harder to figure out what I'm really trying to say... I would like to make my reports as clear as possible to avoid any possible misunderstandings, specially when there's illegal (or questionable) stuff involved.

I also think it would be better if it worked more like a regular post, with line breaks and all like vBulletin's report function, but I assume that would be hard to implement if it's possible at all.

Support this idea, with the caveat that pastebin is also fine. Recent reports have been pretty wordy, fwiw.

This would be nice. What say you, TSO? Is it doable?

I'm pretty sure the most significant part of that question is whether or not it's configurable at all. I assume if the source is available it should be easy to increase the character limit and also just change the input to a textarea.

EDIT: I can confirm that there's a back-end check for the character limit somewhere, since you can modify the form control's max length and input more characters but you'll get a database error on send.
EDIT: Changing it to a textarea and putting in newlines seems to work, unless the report strips or cuts at the newlines.

The line breaks don't show up at all (no gap between words).

I've gotten the impression it's not customizable. I've suggested before to reword the report message to better encourage reporting even something you're not sure about, but apparently even that can't be changed. (In particular, the note about email addresses is pointlessly misleading-- why would it matter if member emails will be revealed to people who can already see them?)

The built-in moderation report system for SMF is really terrible. Like in the actual mod report page it throws comments out of order all the time and I've tried for eons to track down the bug to no avail.

Any modifications or improvements will probably involve a complete rewrite of the system as it is currently limited severely.

I would say for the time being throwing a (unlisted) pastebin link for wordier reports is ok until I can scrape together a new system.

So after adding all those off-site profile links a while back, I just realized there's no link for Twitch. Not that I'm an active streamer, but I think people would make use of those links more than anything besides maybe Twitter and Steam. I get the impression that it wouldn't be difficult to implement either. Thoughts?

I was just reopening this thread to re-suggest a Twitch link, only to find that the last post was already suggesting it nearly 4 months ago with no response. Seems simple enough, and it seems quite a number of people stream (whether Touhou or other games).

Also, some of the profile fields are almost certainly no longer relevant. Wasn't MSN messenger discontinued, for instance?

While it might be more complicated, I'd also like to suggest filtering down full links, since I've seen some people copy-paste those in by mistake. Say, if one of these is entered:
Quote
https://www.youtube.com/user/KarisaMirisame
https://m.youtube.com/user/KarisaMirisame
Then remove everything up to and including the last "/" so the link is functional. That might be a good convention for most of the profile links, actually.

I guess this doesn't really count as bumping since it's a sticky? But anyway, like the above posts from two years ago said, the list of services in the forum profile part of the account settings is kind of hilariously out of date, as I just noticed. Raptr closed last year, ICQ is somehow actually still alive (but does anyone actually use it?), AIM was discontinued last year, MSN Messenger was discontinued in 2013, YIM is apparently not technically discontinued but only works on phones and browsers now, Google Talk has been completely replaced by Google Hangouts which is part of Google+ so doesn't need a separate entry, and... okay, I guess MySpace is somehow still alive. I second the suggestion to add at least Twitch, and given Discord's popularity these days it should probably be among the IM clients in the profile. I'm sure there's other popular stuff that people use that would make sense to add too.
