>You take some time to deal with your lack of speaking ability. It's a little difficult, you have to shape your neck and tongue to fit well with your current form, but you manage. You won't be quite so well-spoken as usual, but you'll be understandable.

>"Oh, good," says Byakuren, as she stands up. "I was worried that perhaps your curse was acting up. I'll go get Mokou at once."
>She stands up, it is a little intimidating to see her tower over you that much more, and heads through the door. You hear her walk out, muttering something to herself about how chilly the front room is, and out the front door. Perhaps a minute passes before you hear new and softer footsteps, before Mokou walks into the room.
>"The big girl says you need something?  says Mokou, frowning a bit toward you. You can hear Byakuren's heavy footsteps behind her.

Sadly, Byakuren said earlier that she wouldn't be able to help on that front. Didn't say why, though, I think I can hazard a guess. Anyway, she suggested Mokou do it instead, and as long as Mokou's going that way...

>You might, but it would be tricky, and has a good risk of taking a tumble.
>"Eh, fine," says Mokou, and she walks up the stairway. She reaches over from the third stair on the bottom and scoops you up under your torso. "You're a little boulder, aren't you?" she says as she turns around and starts down the stairs.

>Mokou snorts, and continues down the stairs. It's a bit jarring, but you don't feel like you're going to fall. Toward the bottom, she takes to the air for a moment, then gently settles on the ground.
>The basement doesn't seem to have changed since you left it. It's a little colder, but you think you think that it's because you changed your hair. Mokou sets you on the icy ground, and you find it's very difficult to get any traction with your paws, and fall on your stomach. Your belly fur is definitely not enough to keep out the chill!

>Try to endure, add some belly hair

>"Yeah, yeah, give me a minute," says Mokou, as she knees down on the ice near the stairs. Fire engulfs her hands; a little too close for comfort in your tractionless state. The ice near her quickly becomes to melt.
>You try to add more hair to your underside, but laying on your stomach makes it difficult to force hair to grow how you'd like.
>After a minute or so, Mokou has cleared out a patch of ice about a yard across and half as wide, turning the dirt underneath to mud. "That good enough?" she asks

By all accounts, Kitten, I'd be inclined to say 'One problem at a time.'
Besides, if this works, and you actually foil Rinnosuke, you can have Hina fix you up afterwards.

>"Yeah, perfect"
>Project a path to under Rinnosuke
>Scoot on over and start digging.

>"Good," says Mokou as she heads toward the stairs. "I'll stay back and make sure things don't go sour."
>You take a moment to project a good path toward Rinnosuke then scrabble toward the dirt, which involves a fair deal of ineffective flailing as your claws and paws find little purchase on the ice. With some effort, you reach the dirt and can finally move about with a semblance of dignity. You center yourself and look toward Rinnosuke again to make certain of your path, and to confirm that he has not moved at all. Finding everything prepared, you sink your claws into the soil.
>The mud practically parts like water before the tips of your claws. The curvature of your claws and paws create natural scoops, making it easy to fling the mud aside with short, precise motions. Within moments, you have a hole deep enough to fit your head in comfortably. Soon you are able to crawl into the beginnings of a decent tunnel.  The mud gives way to dirt, which is a little harder to dig, but easier to move out of the way. You quickly find yourself passing dirt under and around yourself, and kicking out it of the way with your back legs. The light quickly dims to uselessness, and you find yourself prodding at the dirt with your nose after jabbing a finger on a rock. It is definitely chilly down here, but not nearly so bad as the ice above, it is bothersome but not actively uncomfortable. At first the dirt grows progressively harder as you move away from the melted ice, but as you go deeper the cold has had less time to affect things and overhead the hardened soil proves a nice ceiling.
>Moving along, you find that you're no longer able to kick the dirt far enough away that it clears the tunnel entrance any longer, and it starts to pile up on the floor of the tunnel itself.

>If we need to melt ice: "Mokou, could you melt a little more of it?"

>You work your way backwards and widen the entrance a bit, then dig downward, clearing out the dirt gathered there and making a depression in the tunnel floor.
>So far, hardened dirt is not really being a problem, but you won't be able to widen the entrance much more without dealing with it.

>Fling some dirt out of the hole and then continue tunneling.

>You move out some more dirt, then go back lengthening the tunnel toward Rinnosuke.
>You make more progress, but find that you have the same problem as before; you can't fling the dirt far enough to get it outside. and it begins to pile up on the tunnel floor. While you don't think you're immediately in danger of entombing yourself, it is going to get hard to pass as it builds up in certain areas.

>We'll kick some more dirt out, either as much as we can or enough to keep the tunnel as a tunnel.

>You double back to remove more dirt, kicking it out of the hole. Then you return to digging, proceeding for another yard or two before needing to do it again. You note Mokou, at once point, causally kicking dirt away from the entrance, as you relay back and forth, building up larger and larger plies outside. Back and forth, gaining a couple yards then going back to kick out the the dirt a step at a time. As you progress, you become more and more convinced that whatever defenses affecting the room above and not extending down here. Heartened by this discovery, you press onward with renewed vigor.
>Finally, after what you estimate may be close to have an hour of excavation, you're certain that you're relatively close to where Rinnosuke is. The tunnel itself is fairly clear and seems sturdy enough; you could probably creep through it on your belly in your natural form if you removed the wings, but it wouldn't be comfortable, and you'd probably be quite filthy by the end of the trip. Then again, you're probably filthy now, it's hard to tell in the dark and with the limited range of motion you have now.
