Your game sucks. Delete thread, never mention again
You could just do that yourself, Purv. :V
I noted an existing fondness of Umineko among the userbase. Considering this, there are certain mock games which used to be played on 4chan, providing a homebrew solution to the mysteries. And, lately, ignoring some of the episodes to just make the games fun rather than an unravelable theory.
I was wondering if people were interested in playing such a mock game of the Battler VS Beatrice game.
Well, one solution to solve "spoiling" is to use the first gameboard, which is the most well-known, or by using a custom written one.
If it is just for fun, a custom written one should work marvelously either way.
I can't guarantee a "well-constructed one", although I do like to present these sort of games in a way that you don't need to hammer your head into a wall because the solution is too contrived or absurd to think of. :P
I'd also like to avoid the popular theories though, because it's too easy to guess at them, huh? :p
Basically, is para/story-type roleplaying allowed?
Because EVERY choice is ours, IMO. The person running the game gives us the setting, and we run about in it. CYOAs generally force you between 2 or 3 choices (as far as I know), and static fiction, quite frankly, isn't interactive. So, it's a blend of telling a story and playing an interactive game that comes off beautifully. It's mostly a matter of what you are looking for, IMO.
I like Reisen Quest because it lets me be the little bunny girl I've always wanted to be.
;_;
Post number 50k will be coming up soon in RPG. Anybody have ideas for something special for the occasion?
I doubt I can time it right to nab 50k but maybe I'd try my hand at doing a text adventure.
For instance: In Nameless Quest, I tend to make Aurica kinda daffy, because she's a faerie. Not necessarily dumb, but kind of a sillybutt who sometimes draws wrong conclusions. Because that just seems like how faeries ought to be. Especially when she talks about how Yuka's an awful person, and how she'd be so much better if their positions were reversed, even though she's about as impulse as Yuka is~
I'd be cool with it.
I presume Aurica appearing would suggest same setting and events in the past? Would it still be an outworld character?
It means I have no problems at all with the idea. I've got idea for the next character suggestion~FLOATING SKULL NAMED MORTIMER
are we allowed to necrobump a thread that died due to no user input, or just let it sink to the bottom of the lake and get eaten by the zombie piranhas?
Well, this spawns one of my questions:Very yes.
What do you people think of a sequel to Nameless Quest involving a whole new character? If I did do it, it would likely just have Nameless Quest somewhere in the title, and it would follow a similar idea of the players voting for a character to use. Of course, Aurica would make a cameo appearance in the game. Likely as a sidequest. Just a thought.
Very yes.This.
This.
I want to play a Succubus demon, like Koakuma, except we'll do even better~
God, just avoid making me write overly fanservice scenes.
*glares at Purvis*]
My idea? Kappa Newspaper Delivery Girl~ Then Kappa need more love.
Yeah, Text adventures are easy because anyone can join at any time. As a I note I wub my Z-machine posters =]Did you ever get one drawn up for Patchy Quest?
I've abused Slav's good nature enough as it is. Especially since I'll probably try to punch an ending picture out of him, too.I'm glad you understood what I thought you were talking about.
I've seen (and made) several attempts to get RPGs going here and many of them have ended up crashing and burning before they even got started. Why do you suppose that is? do people just not work up the motivation to make characters or do they not care about the setting? Space Opera Quest has happily debunked my theory that people on Shrinemaiden don't care about anything that doesn't have Touhou in it, so I'm really not sure how to get something off the ground.
For that matter, what do people want? What do you look for in your RPGs? What kind of settings interest you?
erm... I've noticed that the large scale RPGs, ie. Waking Up From The Dream, are pretty dead.
are large RPG's just no longer allowed here anymore or is it a case of a loss of interest?
They're allowed, you just have to be a badass enough GM to keep it on the front page against the text adventures.
Or persistent enough with bumping :V
Having enthusiastic players helps.Purvis is so enthusiastic that if I don't update every 24 hours, he's going to delete my thread :ohdear:
I think it's better to, when creating these threads-
-Strongly define the setting early on
-Strongly define how the game is played early on; is it a traditional 1 GM/x players romp where the GM maintains world control, or is it more collaborative, etc; make sure expectations are defined
-Recruit your player pool before beginning, and don't just let anyone jump in and post without prior consultation.
Sounds like a game of Mafia to me :smug:
That's because Mafia bites the style of other, better kinds of RPs ::smug::
I'm loving Nameless Quest too much right now. Way, way, way too much. The one thing I've been waiting for all game...*dramatic music*
...is now. :3
*dramatic music*
Final stretch I take it?
Nope. The "shed."That sounds more ominous than it should.
That sounds more ominous than it should.
All will be revealed when the stars are right, I am sure.
Sadly it is only a 4-person game, which means people are going to have to wait in lineso how are you going to handle signing up
Anyone happen to have the PatchCon sprite sheet? It occurs to me that Touhou-izing this game will make it a lot easier (and more Touhou-themed) on me than trying to transfer to game's original art over.
Can your 4 player slots be expanded to 4 teams of players?
Did I miss some kind of holiday yesterday?
20 players may be the only difficulty.
In a cross kill, will time stamps determine a winner or do both die.
Also you should put in a time-limit or something for the first one, because if everyone doesn't forget to put the word in their post, it'll be a very loooooong game....
A week sounds good, but you should have something to determine who the winner is after the time-limit expires.
We'll be encouraged to hide the code word in creative ways?
i miss those spamposting threads.
how the hell am i supposed to lengthen da e-peen now???
Uhhh...
mafiascum.net?

The Major difference is that.. there is actually 52 cards in a deck so, it's fair for everyone yes?...
"No more game for you" sounds like a modkill. Modkills should be up to the discretion of the mod.
Bans from Mafia games should never be permanent, for everyone has a possibility, however small, of shaping up and being less of a jerk.
I think "being replaced" is not something you can easily slap a punishment on: sometimes you have to replace out or get modkilled due to circumstances beyond your control. Leave it up to the mod's discretion to determine whether they want one such a player in their game.
We should be lenient with how many yellows become a red. Relatively based on how easy it would be to get a Yellow. If we have someone being prodded once per day, and replacing out of the game, (especially late in the game) Chances are likely they'll earn enough yellows to be taken out, while leaving room for the people who have no choice in the matter, but are doing a good job otherwise.
The minimum activity requested is usually a post per 24 real life hours. Everyone goes home and has access once a day at such a time, right? If that's maintained, you don't get a prod. But if you have access and don't post, getting repeatedly prodded for that then it's you holding up the game for everyone else. The mod decides how many prods are worth a Yellow. Then there's people who aren't at home every day. Or who are, but there's still more than 24 hours inbetween (morning of day 1 and evening of day 2, for example).
If you are repeatedly making Mafia commitments you can't hold, regardless of the circumstances, maybe you need to reconsider how often you play Mafia.
Unless I misunderstand what "people who have no choice in the matter" implies.
minimum 1 hour a dayYou people must be fast posters with that kind of minimum. :ohdear:
Um... This topic says I can ask questions here :ohdear:
Could someone explain to me what really goes on in this section of the forums? I'm kinda new to the place that's all ^^'
What's a good way to start? In the middle of an event? With some quests? What's a good way to make it successful and draw people in? Should I plan ahead very much?
I'm feeling audacious right now, Touhou X [whatever crossover coming into mind]. Doubt is...you think people are gonna try it?
Read and show that you actually understand the forum rules first.Yes, but I loved my game.
If you've only read the rules yesterday then it means you never read them before then. The rules say no spam posting games like the one you made. The forum rules don't care how much you loved your game.Sorry. What was my game? And why was it "spamposting"?
Why are no players besides Kilga and me posting inKismesisKisume Quest?
You can find them all here (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,4662.msg221100.html#msg221100). Start with The Barren Path at the bottom of Dead adventures, then just go through the adventures started by Purvis in completed adventures.
Just make up your concept and make a post. The more substance in your post, the betterer your response tends to be. Don't break any rules, obviously.Ok thank you
Hi, everyone! The situation with my quests makes me feel like very few people enjoy them, (and maybe some even hate them). But lurkers speaking up like this have brightened my mood on it.
Taking a read in some of the ongoing Quests (Koakuma and Alice, mainly) was an interesting and great experience, to say the least. By the end of it, two questions regarding them came up :
-It was mentioned that anyone is free to participate in Quests if they wish. If it's a character-related Quest, how does that work? The players take turns in "controlling" the main character (this is kinda what I've noticed in Koakuma Quest but I may be wrong) or do they take on the roles of other characters?
-Will there be a Remilia Quest sometime? Or there was one by now? I'd reckon that would be quite an experience to play through.
The "closed pools" thing applies/d mostly to Mafia games. Text adventures can be assumed to be open pools unless the GM indicates otherwise (and it is safe to assume they will make it obvious the game is a closed-pool game). Thanks for the help. I will look at some games later.

I haven't been coming up with many quest ideas because of the aforementioned, and a lot of work just goes to waste when that happens. If youenjoy my style though andwant a specific character, I don't think it'd be out of the question to try one...
Oh, come on... please don't look down on yourself like that! Your style is simply so thoughtful, so descriptive, and all-around amazing! So much so that it even got me praying "When will he be making a Remilia Quest? That would be so wonderful!"It's not like Quests are a real time thing like a conversation. You could be a day ahead and it would be fine.
On the other hand, I'd say timezones would be quite an issue, since (from what the site says) we are quite radically different zones (I'm seven hours ahead of you), so I'm not sure how we could have it work out if one were to be set in motion. Oh well... perhaps there would be a solution... somehow.

The only problem here......
Is what I would do for the story/plot...
Glad to hear that, thank you for the reply!I suggest checking both fairly recent and older stories which are fit for elements fit for your criteria of inspiration (Original Non-Touhou or mostly so ) here and especially in the " Mystia 's Stored Game/Favorites Section",and even more so on https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/board,4.0.html and Kosuzu's (Koakuma's at that time) Section .
I am aware that original settings and characters require quite a lot of work to start and progress them, which is something I feel am okay at, at the very least... except when it comes to descriptions of surroundings/areas (like buildings, for example) and satisfactory conclusions. These aren't really strong points in my case.
Oh, well. I'll read up more before jumping straight into it.
I see, good to know. Thank you for the answer!Good discerning Mr. Ownage and My "thankings" to " Sophilia " as well ! I also add " Tough Authors"( more under Patchouli's Scarlet Library Section+its Chosen Subsection) like and not just "Lt. Colonel Summers " and partly " Sourfang "and " Purvis ":
