> You leave the house and fly up to the roof.
> From here, you can see over the tops of the trees and into the beyond.  The landscape dips into a valley, and in the center you see what looks like a fairly large town.  In the distance are tall rectangular shapes that glitter in the sunlight.  To the south, and not as far away, a single mountain towers over the rest.  You can catch glimpses of what look like civilization around the mountain, and at its peak.

>Let's go follow those tracks. They're  a bit more definite than cities in the distance.

> You float off the roof and return to the foyer, where you retrieve your shoes.  You leave the shrine and walk down the stairs, leaving the scent of ginger behind you.  At the bottom of the stairs, you see that the paw prints are still there, leading down the path away from the shrine.  You follow them.
> It turns out that the shrine really was in the middle of a forest: although there is a clean-cut path leading to it, little has been done to alter the terrain to accommodate it.  You find yourself going up and down many small hills, and by the time you've reached the end of the path, you find yourself quite tired.  Where the dirt path ends, there's a short flight of stairs that lead down to a strange black strip of rock with yellow lines painted down the middle.  Flanking it are square slabs of rock.  The paw prints lead right up to the stairs, and end there.  As there are still many trees about, you can't see much more from your current position.

> You descend the stairs and stand on the slabs of rock.  The black rock is nothing like you've ever seen before, but it's most certainly...a rock.  Or thousands of small rocks, upon closer inspection.  To your left, the road goes straight into the distance, to some unknown destination.  To the right, you see what you think are buildings, very far away.

> Then let's get moving rightwise.

> You go right, traveling alongside the strip of black rock.  For a while it is nothing but trees.  Walking along you slowly make your way towards the structures in the distance, which grow larger and larger the longer you move.  After what seems like an eternity, you are among a host of odd-looking buildings you have never seen before.  Unlike the wooden structures of the Human Village, these appear to be made out of stones of various colors.  The only ones you recognize are the brick buildings.
> Surrounded by buildings on all sides, though they are short and probably no more than two stories each, you continue on through and find yourself among crowds of people.  They are mostly human, but there are also youkai in the mix.  None of them give you a second glance and continue on entering in and out of buildings, crossing the streets, waiting under scattered trees for strange, boxy contraptions that travel the black road and then lumber off.  You have never been around so many people before in your life and are currently standing on one of the square slabs of rock as people move around or push past you.

>Examine the buildings, try to see what they are for.

> You look around at the buildings.  The one you're closest to has the words "Laundromat" written on them, whatever that means.  You see people walking in and out, carrying clothes in plastic covering.  Across the street you see some buildings with food in the window.  Most of them, however, don't have any labellings on them.  Those ones are probably dwellings.
> Next to the "Laundromat" are two more buildings, one of which has many people going in and out, but you can't tell what it's used for.

> You have no idea what kind of place this is...
> Regardless, you follow the crowd in.  It smells sterile in here.  The walls are lined with small doors, which people open up to take out rectangular pieces of paper.  Some youkai are working at the desks farther in.  Near that, you see wrapping paper, bags, thin papers, stickers, and pieces of stiff-looking material sitting on the shelves.  There are some tall boxes, taller than you are, right at the entrance.  People press buttons and receive slips of paper and sheets of stickers.
