How does it feel to be a mascot? Why did you get the 13th AaS, and is this a sign of the Armageddon?

Wait, you're still staff?

what does ama stand for

What've you been doing lately staff-wise?

I came up with and ran the CLaDOS contest. That's about it, really, except for weighing in on internal staff and town-hall debates at random.

How does it feel to be a mascot? Why did you get the 13th AaS, and is this a sign of the Armageddon?

I feel very in touch with my fursona.

My zodiac sign is Ophiuchus. (Actually, it's Cancer.)

Do you think I should quit playing trivia? :V

Not at all, as long as you "!handicap 9999" at the beginning. I may add a nick recognition feature to save you the trouble.

Who the hell are you?
A friend of TSO's who helped set up and host some early incarnations of the forum and PPIrC, essentially. The timeline (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,8592.0.html) and TSO's Ask a Staffer (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,8860.0.html) talk about me a bit. I've never been much of a forum person, but there was a time I was very active on #shrinemaiden IRC.

On a more serious note, how long have you been around here for?
Pretty close to the beginning, certainly way before there was any WTC to speak of other than this place. I'm not so confident about the dates in the timeline thread, but if that's to be trusted it's been six years now.

What do you do on an average day?
If today is an average day: wake up, play Dead Space 2, go to my one Tuesday class (Environmental Problems and Solutions), play more Dead Space 2, get stuck on the final battle and stop, fail to run a logistic regression procedure for five hours, eat dinner, watch Sengoku Otome, and since then pretty much moulder.

Probably going to try that logistic regression procedure again. Need to get my final project done.
Anyway, I don't have much of a life. :toot:

Am I as derpy as that one lamer in trivia says I am?  :derp:
To answer I would have to know at what angle your pupils point away from each other.

How do you feel about the trivia irc having at most 4 active people?
Probably my fault for not taking care of it lately.

Which is the best answer to a trivia quesiton: marisa kirisame, bacon, or reimu hakurei?
Kirby.

Yes, up until they cast Chiaki Omigawa as Nazuna. I cannot stand her.

Serious question: You definitely have to love animals. Everybody loves animals. What do you actually think of animals as pets in general? Slaves being locked up or strained by a chain or your best friend (cats, docks, birds etc)

Black Jack. Manga moreso than any of the anime (they're not bad, the format just doesn't adapt well.)

What is the 7th Holy scripture in this world. Enlighten us.
The one after the sixth.

Or going by Civ4, the Quran.

Serious question: You definitely have to love animals. Everybody loves animals. What do you actually think of animals as pets in general? Slaves being locked up or strained by a chain or your best friend (cats, docks, birds etc)
Well, after watching my housecat utterly fail to catch a mouse that's been running around the place for a week, I have to say our current pets are definitely better off with us. I suppose if I were one, I'd rather beguile a sentimental human and give up some freedom than hunt for my food as well.

Oh yeah, the last boss of Dead Space 2. Can't get past it either, get swarmed so easily.
And the fact that Isaac walks doesn't help too.
Yeah, the only thing I have that works well against them is the force gun. I'm pretty much out of ammo too, but maybe that's par for the course.

Why are you so damn good at rock paper scissors? (http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/170159/4koma-ciel-comic-hard_translated-monochrome-nanako)
Artiodactyly.

You were presumably very into the series when you arrived. Several years down the line, what's your current opinion of Touhou?
Honestly? I'm annoyed by how utterly it (and some of the other major fanbases, like Hetalia and K-ON) monopolize the Japanese doujin scene. I'd really like to see some more variety and original work.

I have nothing against the games themselves, but I was never much into shmups (strictly an Easy/Normal player in terms of Touhou.) And as they go, I like Hitogata Happa more. I also think ZUN ought to collaborate more often like he did on Fairy Wars and the fighters.

How do you always seem to sound so reasonable in the big staff debates?
By only chiming in when I think I have a solid point.

How did you get into Touhou in the first place?
Via the fanart or more specifically Pooshlmer.

You said you would like to see some original Japanese doujin stuff. What kinds of doujinshi would you like to see?
If I could say it wouldn't be original, would it? :p
I suppose complete originality is too much to hope for, but when everything is borrowed I quickly cease to find doujin interesting. I'd like to see more games like Recettear or Rosenkreuzstilette that at least settle for only copying gameplay. Failing that, some diversity; I want to hear arrangements of music other than Touhou BGM.

Why is Edible your favorite dish?
Cause there's nothing quite like him served at McDonalds.

How's it been hanging?
Like the Dakota War.

I'm a geography major, focus in GIS (or in layman's terms computer cartography.) Ideally, I'd have liked to make games or translate them, but I'm well aware both of those are crummy jobs. "Do what you enjoy as a hobby instead, or you'll stop enjoying it" is a thought I had when picking a major a few years back. This way I can be a bit more socially responsible, too.

Also I suck at math too much to major in CS and I don't like talking to people in Japanese, only reading it.

Why Mami?
We already know why she is the emergency food supply.

Not having to go to class for three hours in a bit would be nice. I woke up too early, could use a nap.

Seriously, I'd probably end up going for something altruistic but phrase it in such a way that it could be corrupted/not have the strength to execute it myself, thus no one ends up happy.

What is your opinion on the cause of the Bronze Age collapse?
Clearly, when Atlantis sank, it took civilization with it.

Never watched one, not rally interested in doing so.

I'm thinking Chinese.

How did lucky number seven end up as thirteen?
Someone up there thought it was funny; we've been rolling the dice to decide who's next.

How long have you known TSO?
About seven years, I'd guess - I signed up for the forum where we met in late 2003.

What's the longest amount of time you've gone without sleep?
Probably around 36 hours. I pull a lot of random all-nighters, but tend to sleep in the morning after Japan has gone to bed.

Yup and nope! Sorry, I suppose I'm making uneducated statements based on impressions from the amount of discussion various subcultures get on this side of the pond (ie, way more when it's the fan stuff) - I've not been in a position to look into it myself, and assumed if the majority was in fact original material would have more presence even on the English-speaking internet.

Could you point to some of these conventions or perhaps some Japanese news sites that cover doujin in greater variety?

Edit: Looks like Touhou was actually 1/14 of C77, (http://d.hatena.ne.jp/myrmecoleon/20100719/1261895841) while the top 20 fanworks accounted for about 2/7 of the circles. I guess that's no plague of unoriginality.

You've mentioned you lived in San Francisco, what do you personally like about the city, tourist traps, etc?
It's nice that you can get around easily without a vehicle, maybe moreso than with one - big change from the subutbs. And the diversity is great, we've got an awesome variety of food. Bahn mi, bulgogi, burritos, burgers, crepes, KFC, pizza and sushi can all be found within blocks of my house.

What about looking at it from a geographical standpoint?
I dunno, it makes a pretty good place to do a mass transit case study? :p My education's been more focused applied geographic techniques, so I haven't actually looked at it that much from either a human or physical perspective. I imagine the diversity makes it a pretty interesting place to study as well, but that's not my area of interest.

How did Batman thwart the Red Hood?
Beats me. I never did get around to picking up the other volumes. So far I suppose he's only thwarted Onyx getting herself killed out of stubbornness by showing up at the right time.

In your layman view, what could American comics gain from studying Japan? Vice versa?
Well, I haven't read a great deal, but my impression is that American superhero comics lack focus and approachability, if that's the right way to put it. The constant cameos by characters I'm not familiar with make me think I'd have to have grown up with them to fully appreciate the read, and I feel that they're to the detriment of some series like Sandman that could have stood on their own. (Then again, Sandman also had some fantastic issues that were technically 'cameos,' like the Prez short - I guess the big difference was whether they got shoehorned into the central plot or not.)

Vice versa, I think Japanese media could learn a lot about applying the principle of 'show, don't tell' from American comics.

Do you play MMO's?
Only when a friend drags me into them - then they lose interest and so do I, because MMOs are never much fun alone. Most recently (disregarding a brief venture into Vindictus, which I thought pretty much sucked, even with friends) I played DFO for a couple of months. I think my overall favorite was the original Mabinogi.

Not really, but Comitia is the biggest all-original doujinshi convention in Japan and it also takes place at Big Sight. (I think)

But even at Comiket, there is still plenty of non-Touhou stuff. It's just easy to pick out Touhou since it is pretty much the sole biggest group.

Subarashiki Hibi (http://vndb.org/v3144), definitely. Saya no Uta (http://vndb.org/v97) is a runner-up and happens to have an English translation.

What is your favorite gun?
Calico Liberty III. That helical magazine is seriously dope.

Favorite touhou game?
Hmm, good question. I haven't played them with any regularity since PoFV, but I think I have to say SA regardless. I like IN too, but it's so long and slow... the others mostly destroy me in terms of difficulty, I'm really not good at shmups.  :P

Where/how did you learn moonrunes? How long have you been studying them?
I've been taking classes and studying on and off for around ten years now, but I feel I only really started to absorb anything once I began making myself read VNs and listen to anime completely in Japanese the past year or so. There's really no substitute for immersion.

If applied in sufficient quantity, it seems more likely to anchor me in place.

Would you describe its chewiness as "soft", and does said chewiness get to you in any way?
Upon further consideration, while its flavor may be prime its texture is indeed inferior. I would rank the crunchy-shell gums such as Dentyne above it in that aspect.

Well, I was born in Canada, moved to the US in 1990. Went to Japan in 1998. Went on a three-week tour of central Europe - France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Switzerland, Austria - a few years after that. Haven't left the country since except to visit my Canadian relatives.

If you liked it, would you put a ring on it?
I notice Beyonce didn't sing anything about pre-nups.

What are the best and worst animes you've watched?  VNs?  Games played?
Best anime: Baccano!
Worst anime: Kannazuki no Miko or maybe Venus Versus Virus.

Best VN: Still Subarashiki Hibi
Worst VN: In ascending order of awfulness- out of translated games, Chaos;Head. Japanese, it's technically an RPG but Kimi ga Yobu, Megiddo no Oka de (http://vndb.org/v1165). OELVN, this fanfic thing (http://vndb.org/v3544) I played out of morbid curiosity.

Best game: Team Fortress 2
Worst game: Civilization V. I bought it at release. What a waste of money.

Oh, you were born in Canada? What part?

Ontario, near Ottawa. My relatives mostly live in the Toronto area, though.

Would you prefer a lot of friends, or a small amount of closer friends? Do you have a job? Are you a massive MMO player, and have you ever been accepted into a beta for one? Is there an Eight Holy Scripture?

How many holes does your scripture have in it?

If Sariel, Konngara, Mima, Yumemi, Yuka, and Shinki got into an all out brawl, how would you watch it?

If a giant meteor was about to fall on your house, what would you use to catch it?

If Sariel, Konngara, Mima, Yumemi, Yuka, and Shinki got into an all out brawl, how would you watch it?

And who would you put your money on winning? And who do you think would fall first?

What has been your favourite/memorable (and non-favourite) moment on MotK? (If this has been asked, or along those lines, then sorry. >< )

Small amount of closer friends, pretty much the case now.

Do you have a job?
Nope. Been applying for internships, but haven't gotten any.

Are you a massive MMO player, and have you ever been accepted into a beta for one? Is there an Eight Holy Scripture?
I played in the Pangya closed beta. And I'm on the Aeria Games mailing list for unknown reasons and I'm pretty sure they've invited me to a few closed betas, but I've never played any of those.

Is there an Eight Holy Scripture?
I wouldn't put it past Nasu.

How many holes does your scripture have in it?
Countless, mostly in Leviticus and Deuteronomy.

If Sariel, Konngara, Mima, Yumemi, Yuka, and Shinki got into an all out brawl, how would you watch it?
Streamcast with running commentary by Team Baka.

And who would you put your money on winning? And who do you think would fall first?
Yumemi will win with the power of CHRISTIAN SCIENCE. Mima will get knocked out first due to the ego.

If a giant meteor was about to fall on your house, what would you use to catch it?
Portal to Activision headquarters.

What has been your favourite/memorable (and non-favourite) moment on MotK? (If this has been asked, or along those lines, then sorry. >< )
The most memorable in a non-favorite way was definitely the April Fools' disaster, whereas the favorite would be the charity drives. It's awesome to see how much good we can do when we come together.

ما هو رأيك من الناس الذين يكتبون بلغات غير التي يتحدث بها معظم الناس على المجلس عندما يمكن أن يكتب أيضا جيدة تماما الإنجليزية؟

Do you mind that I call you Sevens?

What is your least favorite significant Touhou fan theory? Significant being defined by a non-negligible amount of people endorsing it.

Do you think that Yukkuri lovers vs Yukkuri haters are the fandom's equivalent of Skub vs Anti-Skub?

What do you feel was the worst disaster in the forum's history?

How do you approach an issue when making a moderation decision?

Why am I your favorite?

أعتقد أن جوجل ترجمة يجعل المشكلة غير مهم.

Do you mind that I call you Sevens?
Nope.

Can't say I'm familiar with the more recent fan theories, but I find most of the "____ is ____'s mother" ones to be silly and rest on horribly flimsy evidence.

Do you think that Yukkuri lovers vs Yukkuri haters are the fandom's equivalent of Skub vs Anti-Skub?
Pretty much.

What do you feel was the worst disaster in the forum's history?
Probably the globat webhosting debacle. Out of the various troubles we've had, it's probably the one that was least anyone's fault; we lost everything just because a webhost decided to be unreasonable for no possible gain.

How do you approach an issue when making a moderation decision?
Well, unless the issue is a rules violation as clearly as day, I think it's common sense not to act unilaterally - at the most, hide any offending posts from public visibility while we discuss the matter. I, myself, haven't done any hands-on moderation in a long time. I try to chip in with reasonable suggestions when debates come up, but they're merely my own personal thoughts; I'm not active enough to claim to try and advocate for the members  or anything such.

Why am I your favorite?
Because Edible hasn't gotten around to editing your post yet.

Tastes in music?
Well, right now I'm listening to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPevQxAaIOw).

I like a pretty eclectic variety of Japanese female singers. Akino Arai, Akiko Shikata, Cocco, Natsumi Kiyoura, and Haruka Shimotsuki are probably the best-known names well represented on my playlist. For the past month I've been mostly looping bermei.inazawa.

I have another playlist that's stocked with 70's and 90's progressive/alt stuff- Floyd, Genesis, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Iced Earth, Pinback, Tool- but I haven't visited it for a while.

Hmm. I like nue, but not Touhou's Nue in particular. Tayutama has a better one.

Border Team.

What's your favorite crack touhou pairing?
Marisu x Alice (http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/369606/)

If that doesn't count, maybe Reisen x Youmu or Sakuya x Youmu. Pairings based primarily on stage of appearance amuse me for some reason.

Judging from this topic, Edible x Purvis.

Easy, so long as you have no qualms violating the sanctity of Vic Sage's grave.

How many Purvis can you bench?
In attempting to answer this through demonstration, I encountered difficulty locating more than one Purvis. Do you know a supplier?

I'm not sure I have means to record a video, my cell phone can't do it. Someone else's might be able, but it's hard to get a sight of my cat anyway. She's super timid and runs away from everyone and everything.

Engineer. But I often play Medic instead because those are better to double up on.

Eclairs.

Why is Behoimi the best?
Because I never did watch Pani Poni Dash past the first episode.

I'd have to think about it more but it would probably involve frilly dresses.
