Ever since Touhou Soccer 2 was finished (and not being motivated to edit/translate the rest of CoLA), I've been thinking about the next fangame I should translate. I remember seeing this game in Akihabara, and being a big fan of the Ace Attorney games, I decided this would be a fun project to work on. I think there are at least two of these games and I would aim to translate in order however many there are.
I just have two questions:
1. Is there any interest in a patch for this?
2. Has another group/person on the internet started on this already?
-
Allow me to voice a lot of interest in this; I've played every Ace Attorney game, and would love to try out a Touhou take on it. Hell, I'd help if I knew Japanese...
-
My interest could be only shown as doing a video me running naked on the main square of my town, screaming "HELL YES".
-
Interest: Definitely YES!
-
Why are you even asking? Translate, fgt
-
I had the idea of doing this myself, but I couldn't even get the games to run, so it was astoundingly unlikely I'd be able to figure out how to hack them, either. (Translating RPG Maker games almost feels like cheating in comparison.)
As such, I have no idea if the content is even any good, but how far wrong can you really go? (Okay, well...)
-
I don't think anyone else's started/planned on it, or hacked the scripts out of it for that matter. Do you just plan to jot down the scripts as you play or something?
I'm working on my own project myself, but I'll be glad to provide editing/proofreading help if you need it.
-
I was unaware of these games existing.
I am very very interested.
-
Alright, I went ahead and bought the games yesterday. It turns out there are only two games, but they remade the first game (already) so I'm going to start with that.
My hacking knowledge is kind of limited, but I will attempt to root through the files and see if I can find where the text is stored. Otherwise, I will have to go through the game and try to do everything line by line which will be kind of annoying, but oh well. I'll see how it is set up first and then if I have to ask for help, I'll go from there.
-
You're my hero
-
Welp, it looks like everything's all wrapped up in one program. This could be annoying...
Anyone here any good at taking apart programs and try to find where the text is stored? I'm going to need someone who can do that at some point anyway since we've got to get the English text in there somehow. Alternatively, I could contact the circle itself and see if they can't give me a script. I guess if worse comes to worse I'll just translate as I play, heh.
-
Sorry that this is offtopic, but I'm hoping you guys simply didn't notice my other thread. But where does one go to learn about 'hacking' these games? I'm interested in learning how to help make translation patches myself, and am having a tough time learning the process other than the actual languages.
-
I searched around a bit.
This .exe can be decompiled with ExtractData (http://www.mediafire.com/?hhztywgut1y). (nevermind this program, there's an alternative included below)
From what I can tell, the text seems to be in the "scenario" folder in .ks files, which can be edited with notepad.
Not sure yet how to get everything put back together though >_>
EDIT: Here's what I've found so far. The exe is in a format that merges an executable and an archive (archive.xp3) into one file. A program called kiri_sm.exe can split and merge these files. A program called kikiriki.exe can extract and compile .xp3 archives. Here's a package with these programs.
http://www.mediafire.com/?ko0jww4ozwo
kiri_sm.exe -e gyakuten_touhou.exe
Splits gyakuten_touhou.exe into _detach.exe and archive.xp3
kikiriki.exe -i archive.xp3 -o gyakuten
Extracts all files from archive.xp3 and places them in a folder titled "gyakuten"
kikiriki.exe -c -i gyakuten -o archiveE.xp3
Compiles all files in the "gyakuten" folder into archiveE.xp3
kiri_sm.exe -m _detach.exe archiveE.xp3 gyakuten_touhouE.exe
Merges _detach.exe and archiveE.xp3 into gyakutek_touhouE.exe
That's what I have to offer on the subject :P (http://j.imagehost.org/0400/gyakuten.png)
-
Awesomesauce!
-
Kickin' rad. Thanks a lot! I've give it a try soon and see how it works.
-
That's the exact same format as Touhou Pocket Wars lol.. I've never noticed an XP3 file before then. But assuming ace attorney is the same, it is indeed pretty easy.
I used a different tool for extracting and compiling though, I'm sure it's the same thing pretty much though since it also extracts into ks files (where the majority of the text is), tjs files (windows-window related files from what I gathered), and bmps, pngs, etc. If it doesn't work out for you Forza I'll fish the link for the one I used, should work if that one doesn't.
-
yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
I just translated the little intro and it looks like everything should be fine for now. I probably won't be able to REALLY work on this until I finish my next book, but on the technical side, things should be A-OK.
-
Is it true that Shin Gyakuten Touhou is a remake of Gyakuten Touhou, as opposed to a sequel?
If so, are you working on Gyakuten Touhou, or Shin Gyakuten Touhou?
-
Shin is a remake of the original, so I will be working on Shin. I couldn't find any copies of the original for sale anyway.
-
I just wanted to say that I wholeheartedly support this.
-
hell yes, do it.
-
Alright, I guess what I'm going to do is try to play through each case in Japanese first to get a feel for it and then translate them. I just finished the first case, which is the stardard short introductory case. This should be kind of interesting...
Spoilers for the second case: The accused in the second case is Marisa. Seems pretty hard for the second case...
-
Out of curiosity, what was the defendant (Cirno, I think) in Case 1 accused of?
-
Out of curiosity, what was the defendant (Cirno, I think) in Case 1 accused of?
Breaking a camera that Rinnosuke had gotten ahold of that he momentarily abandoned while he was off tending to his store
In fact, the whole reason why they do the trial system instead of the traditional danmaku battle is because Rinnosuke can't use danmaku.
-
Wow, I never played Gyakuten touhou thinking it would be the same as all the other gyakusai parodies of it but it does look very interesting...
Tell me if you need any help, I'm always willing to help out on stuff that looks fun :)
...Well, I can go ahead and do rough translations on the spot if its possible to find the .dat or what ever file that contains all the texts.
-
I wanted to do this by myself since I am beginning to consider translating as a career and I think this would be good practice, but I would love for people to check my work.
-
I was once upon a time aspiring for that carrier too :)
... well I'm a failure but...
I'll be more than happy to look over stuff, anything to be of service :D
-
Hm, is there a faster way to put text into the game without having to reassemble the whole thing every time I make changes? There's about a couple thousand pictures it's got to compile despite only changing a single text file.
-
Hmm. From what Ghaleon said, there probably is. Let me check...
[minutes pass]
Yes, there is. If you put only the altered files into "patch.xp3" and leave it in the same folder as the executable, you don't even have to compile the exe; it will replace the new files on its own, just like in Pocket War.
-
Hm, I don't see a patch.xp3. Am I supposed to make it with the kikiriki program?
-
Hm, I don't see a patch.xp3. Am I supposed to make it with the kikiriki program?
Yeah, that's what I meant. Sorry.
-
So the command line would look like
kikiriki.exe -c -i gyakuten/scenario -o patch.xp3
Is that right?
-
So the command line would look like
kikiriki.exe -c -i gyakuten/scenario -o patch.xp3
Is that right?
Without the /scenario. All the files are supposed to in the gyakuten folder (should have specified that, sorry again...)
-
But that's just the same as before. I'd still have to recompile all of the files every time I wanted to check my edits. I want a way to just change the text files without having to do that. If that's not possible, that's fine. I'll just have to deal with it.
-
Well, you'd only have to compile the edited files which is still better than compiling all those images, but yeah I see what you mean.
There might be a tool for edit-checking here (http://tlwiki.tsukuru.info/index.php?title=Tools). It's a list of tools for this kind of game.
-
Well, you'd only have to compile the edited files which is still better than compiling all those images, but yeah I see what you mean.
If I could do that, I would, but don't I have to compile everything for the game to run? Sorry, but I'm really confused as you what you're trying to say. If I compile everything in gyakuten folder, like you said earlier, that includes all the pictures and stuff. Break it down for me because I'm kind of stupid when it comes to technical program stuff like this.
-

...ohhh... OH. I see the misunderstanding you have. I'm really sorry. This is a prime example of me having terrible communication skills.
Let's say, for example, the only files you edited are text.txt and image.png
Both of these files should go in the gyakuten folder, and only these files. They don't need to be in a subfolder. The command would be
kikiriki.exe -c -i gyakuten -o patch.xp3
Then you put patch.xp3 in the same folder as gyakuten_touhou.exe and run the game. There's no need to compile the exe or any of the unedited files
-
Alright, that did the trick. Thanks!
-
Alright, that did the trick. Thanks!
Sweet! (please forgive me orz)
-
Since I'm mostly waiting on other people for my book, I started working on this some more. The prologue for the first case is pretty long though.
-
So... Out of curiousity, how many cases are there? And what're the plots? >.>
-
It looks like there are only 4 cases in the first game. And I don't want to give away the plots. It should be a surprise. :P
Anyway, I've finally translated all of the prologue. Now for the first case proper...
-
Oh yeah, I should probably start looking for an image editor... Anyone want to help?
-
Oh yeah, I should probably start looking for an image editor... Anyone want to help?
How would one go about helping with this?
-
I would send you the pictures and the translations, and then you would make pictures of the exact same size using the translations.
-
Hmm... Well, I can try doing that.
Although it's entirely possible that it will be beyond my limited image-related capablities. Just send me one or two to try as a start and I'll tell you if I'm up to it or if you should get someone else. >.>!
-
Well, I'm not ready for that quite yet I just wanted to see if anyone was willing. When I am, I'll let you know. Thanks.
-
Alright, cool.
-
Oh that?s what you ment... :V (Was thinking of program to edit picture files)
Can I still do something related to that?
-
I suppose, but I might give it a shot first before I ask others.
But as far as progress goes, I have finished translating the entirety of the first case! All that's left is proofreading and making sure the text looks neat, then I can move onto the second chapter after I play through it.
-
Well now, this looks like something to look forward to. Good luck with this, N-Forza. I'd offer to help but... There really isn't much I can do. xD
-
And just as mysteriously, the imageboard lifted their ban on Japanese IPs. :V I made a thread asking for help as far as drawing stuff goes, but for simple typesetting, I can do that just fine on my own.
Anyway, I just finished the second trial. Third trial, near as I can tell, is about Reimu giving Suika sake so powerful it knocks her out for days. Hey, it's as close as you're going to get to murder.
-
HUZZAH!!
Progress!
-
Well, I met with the circle behind this series at Comiket and I mentioned the fact that I was translating the game and suggested they made the patch official and put it somewhere like DLsite so foreigners could have access to the game. Unfortunately, they said that they "couldn't support" something like that, so w/e, their loss. I guess if you guys really want to support them, it's not like you can't ask me to buy a copy for you.
Also, they released a new edition at Comiket. Seems a bit lighter in content, but I won't be able to get to it until much later anyway.
-
Does that mean... you won't translate anymore? :ohdear: I am so awaiting this patch.
-
He never told me to stop, just that he couldn't support it. :P Maybe he was worried about legalities and things like that.
-
Oh thank god :V   :*
-
He never told me to stop, just that he couldn't support it. :P Maybe he was worried about legalities and things like that.
From your other post, you also asked them if they could support the idea of distributing their games in places like DLsite. I think that's what turned them off, rather than the idea of distributing a translation patch--Many circles that create Touhou-related games (including Shanghai Alice) reject the idea of download-based distribution for fear that they may inadvertantly commercialize their games. They prefer to have people come and experience doujin conventions like Comiket/Reitaisai and get their games that way. That's why you never see ZUN selling any of his titles on DLsite.
If they didn't want to support a translation of their games, they probably would've requested you to stop translating right then and there.
Also, how's the translation effort going along?
-
I considered that viewpoint too, but if you're going to share your game with people who aren't able to go to these events, that's the best way to do it. Also, the same circle sells their games in doujin shops, and I don't see how DLsite, a website specializing in selling doujin comics and games, is any different.
And I haven't worked any on the game in the past few days due to Comiket, but I finished the entire first day of the third case before that.
-
Woohoo!! At least this game will still be translated.
SO how long ar ethe remaining cases?
-
I considered that viewpoint too, but if you're going to share your game with people who aren't able to go to these events, that's the best way to do it. Also, the same circle sells their games in doujin shops, and I don't see how DLsite, a website specializing in selling doujin comics and games, is any different.
It has to do with the fact that ZUN doesn't want circles to distribute their games too extensively. If they stick to just selling hard copies through either Comiket or places like Toranoana, they can limit how much stock goes on sale, but if they digitally sell online, then their stock becomes limitless and they can't control the extent of their distribution.
I'm not exactly sure why, it might just be that they want to be seen as nothing more than a small collaboration of indie groups, or it might even be that they don't want doujin artists competing with each other for "sales", but I noticed that Touhou doujin community seems to have this mentality that an extensive distribution of their games automatically equals commercialization.
I never agreed with it myself. In fact, I'd say ZUN is shooting himself in the foot by not selling his games on DLsite. I don't think circles who complain about piracy don't have a good reason to do so if they don't even bother selling their games as much as they can, either. The whole purpose of copyright is to protect sales--Why worry about losing sales to piracy if you're not going to make an effort to sell your stuff?
Anyways, it's nice to know that the translation is going smoothly.
-
Still working on this. Just finished editing Case 3, Day 2.
However, it's going to be kind of slow going from here on out. I need to start working on circle stuff for the next Comiket and Reitaisai, but I guess I'll work on this whenever I'm in the mood.
-
Awesomesauce, just take your time.
-
Standard bi-weekly update.
First half of Case 3, Day 3 is done.
Still no one going to offer their image editing skills?
-
If you absolutely can't find anyone else, I can offer my image editing non-skills! :V
...But I'd still advise getting someone else <_<;
-
This is a horribly delayed question, but by new edition - you mean another remake, or a new game? :\
-
Yeah, I guess I wasn't specific enough. It's another game entirely, just called "Special Edition." So that's three games in total.
Shin Gyakuten Touhou (update of the first game)
Gyakuten Touhou 2
GT Special Edition
-
well technically four games, three different games BUT I GET WHAT YOU MEAN
So how goes the project?
-
Got my way through about half of the trial. This one's a doozy though, so it'll probably take me another two sessions to finish it.
-
Alright. And that should wrap up Case 3 you said...
Are there four or five cases in total?
-
Took me closer to 3 and a half sessions to go through everything.
I'll start on the 4th and final case next month, maybe.
-
HUZZAH I SUPPOSE!
-
Yay!
-
I registered to say thank you for working on this, and if you still need anyone else to help with image editing, send me an email to bplitt at gmail.
-
Thanks for the offer, but really, what I meant to say before is I need less an image editor and more an artist to re-draw text on pictures and also make a new logo.
-
Just came to offer my assistance on that front. Can't guarantee I'd be able to do everything, but I'd definitely be able to fit some image editing/redrawing between work.
It'd be a shame to have something I can do as being the only hold up. :3
-
All right, thanks. I'll PM you with some examples of what I need at some point, probably when I start working on the next chapter.
-
Don't have PM ability due to having fewer than 10 posts, but here's the fixed up images:
http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/gamestart.png (http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/gamestart.png) (this isn't technically in the same format as the US logo, but since Touhou is a much longer word than Ace, it works better with the swap)
http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/igiari.png (http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/igiari.png)
http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/kurae.png (http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/kurae.png)
http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/mattao.png (http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/mattao.png)
I'm keeping all the original .psd files, so if you need anything changed, it should be pretty easy to do so.
-
But you still used "Ace" in the logo. Other than that, I think it looks pretty decent.
I need to do some research on the original Gyakuten Saiban graphics and compare them to the ones in this game. I really don't want to use the exact same graphics, but if that's what they did, maybe it should be OK.
-
Oh, wow. Derp. :derp:
Title graphic is fixed now.
-
Cool, that should work just fine.
However, after comparing the graphics (for OBJECTION, etc.)in the original and the graphics in this game, I really don't want to use the exact same graphics that they used in the original with a filter applied over them. Maybe if you could find a font that resembles the text used in the original, that would be a little better, since that's what it looks like the makers of this game did.
-
How's this then?
http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/igiari_winkie.png (http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/igiari_winkie.png)
http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/kurae_winkie.png (http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/kurae_winkie.png)
http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/mattao_winkie.png (http://mmii.info/misc_img/touhou_attorney_translated/mattao_winkie.png)
I'm using the Winkie (http://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/Winkie.htm) font for this... I'm up for suggestions if you've got a better font in mind.
-
Hmm... I think it looks a little "childish" or something. The original had more of a "grand" feel to it, so see if you can find something along those lines.
-
Just posting to show my appreciation for all the hard work you've done, keep it up!
I can't help you, but I do know that in Flash you can make your own fill so maybe that can be done to make a font like the one they use in Ace Attorney for OBJECTION! etc.
-
Oh hey, an update! Who'da thunk it?
I am finally done with Day 1 of the last case. Fortunately, that means the case is half-done.
Any progress on the graphics? I'm not really expecting any, but I would still appreciate further effort.
-

http://img84.imageshack.us/i/customobjection.png/
I'm not sure if you're still looking for new submissions for the "OBJECTION!" etc. images, but I thought I'd submit this one just in case you are.
I'm not particularly happy with the white "explosion" in the background, but that can be edited relatively easily. I haven't done any others just in case you don't like this one, but if you do, then just say and I'll make the others. :)
-
Not bad, but kind of wide. Then again, with a word that long it might be kind of hard to make it fit within half a screen.
-
http://img593.imageshack.us/i/customobjection2.png/
Is this any better?
I could just continue making it a bit narrower if it isn't, but I get the feeling it'll start looking really weird if I do that too much. :wat:
-
Hm, maybe have it angled diagonally downward?
-
Sorry this took so long, I've had a fair amount to do this week...
http://img854.imageshack.us/i/customobjection3.png/
Is that the sort of thing you meant?
I'm going to get my post count to 10 so I can send these via PMs rather than flood this topic with failed attempts...Unless you'd rather I just post them here.
-
No, I meant a much steeper angle, like kind of like a slash: \
I'm in no hurry at the moment, since I'll still got a bit to do, and you can post them wherever.
-
I finally finished translating the final case!
i just need to do the ending and final evidence graphics and I can move on to editing. Once editing is done, I can give out beta patches for others to go over to find typos, glitches, missed spots, unclear wording, etc. No exact timeframe on this, but hopefully it will be before the month is out.
-
Yayy! :D
Been following this silently since the beginning, but I can't contain my excitement anymore. You're my hero.
-
Finally!
-
One more request, this time looking for people who can edit movie files, namely .mpg. It's not a big deal if I can't translate the ending sequence, but it would be nice all the same.
-
No takers? Oh well, I guess it's not a big deal.
Anyway, I'm just about finished, so I figured I would ask for people who want to "beta test" the patches. Basically play through the game and look for things like crashes, misplaced text, unclear writing, that kind of stuff. I want people who are willing to be fairly involved, and I all I will ask for in return is not to distribute these to anyone else, which shouldn't happen since I'll give them to anyone willing to help.
However, I can only provide the patch, not the game itself, so keep that in mind.
-
I would love to test this beta English patch. I'm very grateful that you translated this, so I want to at least give a little help in return by looking for possible crashes, misplaced text, and anything else in the beta patch. I'll look behind every corner in the game if I have to, just for you, and everyone else who looked forward to this. :)
-
I'd be willing to do a test run.
-
I'd gladly test this, I've been wanting to see this game anyway.
-
Darn, were there really no volunteers to translate the ending mpg? I didn't want to spoil the ending for myself by takin' on the task, but it'll be sad to see things still untranslated.
I do have video editing software, and I do have a few years of experience in using said software (mostly for music videos). I'm sure I'd be able to do the job right. So since there is no one else who can do it, I'll volunteer myself.
-
I would be willing to test the translation as well.
-

There aren't any real spoilers in it. It's just staff roll and comments for the most part. I'll probably give you the stuff once I have the beta ready to go.
-
As an avid AA fan, but more recent Touhou fan, I'd love to test your translation!
-
I've wanted to try out Gyakuten Touhou for a while, but I don't know any japanese. Count me in...
-
I would also like to try out this patch if possible
-
All right, I actually finished editing the last case over the weekend, but I need to translate some system graphics first so you can actually use the user interface without resorting to trial and error.
-
Motivation? What's that? At any rate, I should have it done sometime tomorrow.
Anyone willing to do a bit of digging and look deeper into the game for me? I don't know how to change things like the program name and system menu. Not that it's a big deal, but it would be nice to fix.
-
OK, patch link sent. Thanks for your help, guys.
Kilvoctu: I'll send you a link to the video and the translation sometime in the next few days, maybe.
-
Hey N forza i need help on case 3 im on the 3rd cross examination of day 3 and im stuck. also the only reason im posting on this topic is cause i dont know how to send messages.
-
I presented the final evidence and beated case 3 but it glitched during the end which means unless theres a way to fix it i cant go to case 4
-
On case 2, when Alice appears for the first time (meaning her profile shows up). Her profile is completely untranslated. Just a heads-up. And when I examined the lake (As in the lake itself), that part is also untranslated. And a pop-up message in japanese came up and made me unable to move anywhere. Also now I got some bad news. This is probably just my computer being dumb as hell again, but apparently I can't do anything on it at all. Not even access the internet. (I'm using laptop right now) I'm doing the best I can to resolve this, but this means I currently can't go any further on the testing until I fix this. I apologize deeply.
-
Yeah the same happend to me. During case 3 right when i was about to get the not gulty verdict the game glitched and i couldint do anything. so unless this is fixed it might be impossible to move on to case 4
-
oh and one more thing Cirnos profile in case 2 and 3 is also untranslated altough its probably the same as her profile in case 1.
-
Well, so far you're the only one who's given me that problem so far but I'll look into it. I'll try to put out an updated patch in the next couple of days.
-
This is weird. Yesterday, compy pops up virus issues. Next day, it acts normal. I guess I'm not done testing this patch yet!
-
HRRRRRRN so excited for this!
-
how is the translation going?
-
NForza is currently fixing bugs and crashes we found.
-
hmm since its a phoenix wright-ish game being able to know whats going on is pretty important.
well i will be waiting for it so yes.
-
Are you gonna be done with the patch any time soon, and when are you gonna upload it for download?
-
Not sure. I'm in the middle of working on my next book for Comiket, but I'm almost done with the second revision. I just need to do case four and then I'll be ready for the final check.
-
OK, the second revision is complete, and now begins the fun part of double-checking for bugs and typos. Hopefully I should have something ready before too long though.
-
That's lovely to know. It's good when projects come to fruition.
-
Great to hear that. :3
-
That's amazing dedication. Keep it up!
-
glad to hear its going well...
if it doesnt end well i'll just play it without the translation do what i did when i first played phoenix wright... (yes i was a moron back then) and pick random answers
-
Just discovered this topic. As a fan of Phoenix Wright (and Touhou, duh) I would be really interested in buying this game when you're done with the translation and when I've actually got time to play games again. We have another thread for that, though...

OK, I think that I am JUST ABOUT DONE with this patch.
However, I really want to support this circle for their work, and rather than release this English patch just so everyone can play the copies they downloaded off the internet, I have a condition before releasing this patch. If ten people will buy the game through me, I will make the patch available to download.
Just go to my store thread linked in my signature and send $25 to the Paypal address in the first post of the thread as a purchase payment, and leave a comment in the payment saying it's for Touhou Attorney. Once 10 people have paid for it, I will post the patch in this thread. I will also attempt to send out the copies of the game as soon as possible.
In this way, the original game makers still receive overseas support and anyone who can understand English will be able to enjoy the game. Remember, the patch only comes out when 10 people have paid for a copy of the game through me. I am not making any money off of this; it all goes towards the purchase price and shipping cost of the games.
And once I take care of a few things, I'll start working on Touhou Attorney 2...
-
Ok, I?ll bite. The money has been sendt.
-
I'm going to need to wait for my next paycheck before I send my payment, though I wonder what would the purchasers of the game do if we don't reach the 10 people requirement.
Excited to hear you planning on Touhou Attorney 2, also.
-
I will probably just send the patch to the people who bought the game via e-mail or something.
Borealis, once you are able, can you send me your shipping address via PM? I guess you can just e-mail it to that same address though.
-
Hm? Thought you could see it on paypal. Right, sending it shortly.
Oh, and do send it as a "gift" please. If not I will get hit with enough taxes to effectivly double the price.
-
understood. cant help out through i dont know how to setup my paypal properly
-
Halfway to the goal now. At this rate, the patch should be released by the end of the week.
-
well good to see ur a good person N-forza after i setup my paypal account properly i can buy some good ol touhou games instead of having my best friend waste his money just to buy them for me.
-
I think I'm interested in buying the game. I'll have to make a Paypal account, though... TwT
And... how many buyers needed to have the patch released? Less than five, I guess. But knowing the exact number can help.
Thanks!
-
I just sent my monies. Send me a message if anything should be clarified.
And now you can be sure it's less than five, Makimoke. ;)
-
Yes, I think it's 9 at this point. I'll probably pick up the games before too much longer.
-
Allow me to be the last, then. Just noticed the recent updates in this thread, and that's a fantastic way to spend $25 if I've ever heard one.
-
And that will do it! I'm about to go to bed, so I'll post the patch sometime after work tomorrow. I need to check up on a couple things before the final (maybe) release anyway.
-
OK, here's the patch! Just stick it in the install folder and it should apply automatically whenever you start up the game.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/4wba22
Also, if anyone has any alternative hosting ideas, let me know.
I'll order the games for those who ordered them soon and get them out ASAP.
-
o/
-
Also, if anyone has any alternative hosting ideas, let me know.
If it's okay with you, I could upload this to Dropbox for delicious direct downloading.
-
Also, if anyone has any alternative hosting ideas, let me know.
what about mediafire? i heard its good. that where i mostly find uploaded patches or maybe those patches were stolen and made their own i dunno.
-
Just a word of warning to anyone who decides to download the game: you need SHIN Gyakuten Touhou that was released at C77, not the original which was released earlier. Trying to install the patch on the original will give you errors.
-
I just registered to say thanks for the english patch, I managed to finish this game today after playing it for about 10 to 12 hours.
I was wondering if you will be translating the sequel after this game?
Again, thanks for the english patch.
-
Thank you a lot for translating this.
I was surprised how lighthearted this is. It's been really enjoyable so far because of that.
-
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Suikayasan realized that if they decided to actually kill off someone, there would be a fair amount of backlash, so they had to stick with "lesser" crimes, although that does give it a different feeling from the AA games where pretty much every case ties into a murder at some point.
As for the sequel, I'll think about it. The process should go faster now that I have a better idea how the code works and since they're based on the same engine, debugging will be less of an issue.
-
My biggest concern is the typewritter sound and the speed of it, and the fact that we can't speed through it just breaks anyone's patience. But I guess something will be done or there's some sort of speed value attached to it, dunno really.
Also, I gotta hand it to Suikayasan, even though they don't have the cleverness that the Phoenix Wright staff writers do, they did manage to keep me playing for quite an extended period of time before getting bored about it. Too bad they can't animate Remilia getting her tea cup Godot style, that would make me smile almost all the time during trials.
-
Alright. I got myself the translation patch, and I got myself stuck at a dead-end. Can anyone help me? I tried every evidence on all characters available on Extra, but I'm still stuck.
I checked the whole Nitori's Storeroom... At least I guess I did? I talked to her, both choices. I tried to talk to her for Investigation, but she said exactly the same thing. I got myself the registry and the lemon (but I did not find the cable that was cut... but I don't think I can find it anyways.) I checked the shogi board, but to no avail. I also got the Poncho from Tenshi. I got the teacup from the SDM Library and had a chat with Patchy... I talked to Kogasa in the Human Village and she left, then to Mokou, who apparently had just one thing to say about the ghost. After I talked to her... I can't advance on the story.
Hope someone can help me... Or maybe we can create a help thread on Help me Eirin?
Anyways, the game is quite nice. The humour of the Gyakuten Saiban series is present, and that's thanks to N-Forza for that quite marvelous job.
Just one thing that I hate though... The "Matta!" "Igiari!" and "Kurae!" voices. I find them... quite ugly, if you want my opinion.
Once I finish the game, I will make a list of all things untranslated or corrections to be made on some words. ^^
-
Believe me, I would've loved to record new voices, but that's a little outside my scope.
Also, here's an updated patch. It fixes the minor crash at the Forest Lakeside

You asked for help, I shall provide. Spoilers ahead:
Do the following: Check the all the stuff on Nitori's storeroom, specially the safe and all that. If you already did this, go to the SDM Library and show Patchy the perfume. That's probably what you haven't done. If you done all this, the series of event should continue.
-
Thanks a lot!
I didn't show the perfume to Patchy, so that's why I was stuck... Now I'm going to see Alice for that perfume.
-
I'm not sure if this is really on-topic for this thread, but did Gyakuten Touhou 3 ever materialize? There's a page for it on Suikayasan's site and it was supposedly at Comiket 79 but that's as much as I could find about it.
If it did, is it still obtainable or was it a limited release?
-
Yes, it's still available in doujin game shops. I actually played and beat it already.
-
What are the differences between vanilla Gyakuten Touhou and Shin Gyakuten Touhou, btw ? Or are they completely different games ?
-
The main difference is, Shin Gyakuten Touhou has 1 more case.
-
Also various engine improvements and a few graphical tweaks. In fact, it seems smoother overall than the second game, likely because they made Shin after that one.
-
excuse me i want to ask you whether you will be doing the translation for the second game too? since you translate the first game....
oh BTW thanks for the patch :D
-
Is anyone else having trouble getting the game running at all? Does it not work on windows 7 or something? My friend got a copy from the same place as me and has it working fine on vista, but I just get weird error messages full of questionmarks even when I try running it in applocale.
-
It won't work even with applocale if you run it without japanese system locale. You need japanese system locale to run the game.
-
Oh, that's annoying. Thanks.
-
<3 this, added a new item to my life. Though I am having problems.
I firstly wish to thank the translator,
and secondly to ask a question.
On the part of the extra part in touhou ace attorney, there is an area where Kogasa gives a testimony that you cannot press, if you do, you will lose immediately, I need help at this part.
-
You need to press the statement where she mentions which pocket Tenshi used to hide the suit. This last testimony is a trick. When you press it, it will start unfolding the same as any other pressings. I got confused too and thought that I made a mistake. You just need to scroll a bit further...
-
OK, seeing as how there has been ample time for people to play the game, I would like some more solid feedback about the translation. Anything at all is fine, positive or negative. Did anything about the translation bother you? Did anything stick out as really great? Just say whatever comes to mind.
-
I thought you did a good job. There were only a couple of spelling mistakes but that was all there really is.
-
Typos? Like what? If you can't remember, that's fine, but I would like to know if possible.
-
All right, the translation for Touhou Attorney 2 is underway. Just about finished with the rough translation of the first of four cases.
-
All right, the translation for Touhou Attorney 2 is underway. Just about finished with the rough translation of the first of four cases.
Hot damn, that is welcome news! Thoroughly enjoyed the original.
-
Just finished the first game. There were noticeable typos but they did not impact my enjoyment in the least.
I am looking forward to the sequel's translation.
-
You're the second person who's said that about typos. I'd be nice if someone said where they were.
-
I wasn't keeping track of where the typos were. I was focused on the game...
-
No, that's fine. I'm not expecting anyone to do it, but I'm just wondering how I misspelled so many words despite going over everything a bunch of times and giving it to a couple people to check. Oh well, I'll just be more careful for this one.
-
Figured I'd help with the typo problem.
I'm actually almost done with an LP of this game, and I do make a note of all the typos I see along the way. It's not exhaustive, as I didn't examine everything and its mother, but it should help quite a bit.
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5DB6B49A49F18A68&feature=plcp (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5DB6B49A49F18A68&feature=plcp)
Make sure to watch with annotations on.
And also note that this LP uses the first patch - not the forest-lakeside-crash-fixed one. I never ran into it anyway on my first playthrough.
-
so hows the second games transulation going? its been 3 months or so, im guessing if its still being worked on, it should be done around now.
-
The first game took around a year or so of off-and-on work, so don't expect it that quickly. I'm only doing this in my spare time, and I have a few other projects going on too.
I'm almost done with the second of four cases, but I'm going to be working on my doujinshi over the next few months too as well as finding another job so I can't give a timeframe of when I'll be done.
-
so, I just want to know but, how much have you done?
-
Pretty close to finishing case 3 of 4, but I haven't touched it since I started my new job. I'll see if I can't make time for it soonish, since I do want to get this out the door within this decade.
-
Incredibly belated update, but I have finished the rough translation for all four cases!
I would like some help in spell-checking, format errors and general bug checking very soon, so if you're interested, let me know.
-
I'm ready for it again. Hopefully, my language skills improved since the last time and I might spot more errors now.
-
How goes the translation for the second game? If you still need someone for spelling/bug/format checking, I'm up for it.
-
Thanks for the offer. I'm taking another look at the script before I try to load it into the game. I'll send it off to anyone who's willing to help once it's ready, hopefully before the end of the month.
-
OK, I have a beta patch ready. The evidence and profiles haven't been translated yet, but the main story should be comprehensible to non-moonspeakers. If anyone who has the game wants to help by editing and bug catching, let me know. I just ask that you don't record videos or anything of the footage since it's nowhere near complete yet.
-
Yay, we're off! :)
One thing I can say right away is that it doesn't look like switching fonts is a good idea, looks like other fonts use full character width for alphanumeric characters, which means that text starts looking very weird.
I'll report the rest through PMs like the last time.
-
Huh? I switched fonts? Or are you saying that changing fonts from the in-game options is a bad idea? Because the latter definitely is, rofl.
The first game had the same problem, but that's just one of the quirks of going from one language to another.
-
Or are you saying that changing fonts from the in-game options is a bad idea? Because the latter definitely is, rofl.
Yeah, that. I imagine it would be quite difficult to tamper with the selected font using a patch as the game picks up fonts directly from the OS, so you would have to predict how they would be called on the end system.
-
Ah, yeah, I guess it would do that. I'm not really sure what to do about that though. Auto-wrap isn't built into the engine so new words will get split in half if a line's too long, but I don't even know how to begin putting it in.
-
Seems like there's a problem with how I translated the flags in the code. I forgot they couldn't contain any spaces, so I'll probably spend tomorrow night or the night after fixing that up.
-
I know the thread hasn't seen a post in 5 months, but considering the question is relevant to the thread I figured I would ask Is the translation for Gyakuten Touhou 2 underway still? Or has the project been abandoned?
That being said, relating to Shin Gyakuten Touhou, in some of my spare time, I decided to port case 1 of SGT to the PyWright case maker engine. The link to it can be found here: http://forums.court-records.net/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=30295 (http://forums.court-records.net/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=30295). I didn't think it was a good idea to make a new thread for it here, but if I have to for this game, I might.
-
Yeah, that's cool if I can pull it off. I understand changing your PC's location settings can be a bit annoying.
As for 2, I am just about done with the final check. I'm going through it myself first before sending it to the beta testers. However, I'm going to be doing what I did with the first game before I released the patch: try to sell X number of copies. The good news is that I've already sold about 2 copies so there's progress already. I'll get some more details once I figure out how many copies of the game are still out there.
ALSO, I completely forgot the main reason why I made this post in the first place, but did anyone have the edited typewriter function that makes the scene changes go faster? I tried to figure it out myself but I have no idea where to start.
-
How much is a copy of the game + shipping gonna be? I'd possibly be up for purchasing a copy.
-
Somewhere around $25 via non-registered air mail.
-
Oh, that's not bad at all. I'll send the money/shipping info via paypal in a day or two.
Edit: Well, I should probably wait until you can confirm their are copies left, shouldn't I? Provided there are, I will get one.
-
Yeah, there are still copies left, although I probably won't actually pick them up until I send the beta patch to my testers for a final check.
Worse comes to worse, I can always send a refund.
-
Well, I don't see a reason to delay and possibly forget then. Should have been sent over via payment. Eagerly awaiting the release.
-
You thought this was dead?
:objection!:
I have finally sent beta patches to my testers, so I'm on the cusp of finally releasing the finished patch!
However, as I did with the first game, I want 10 people to buy copies of this game so that the original creators get SOME kind of support. The good news is that I've already sold about 5-6 copies over the past couple of years, so once I sell off these final 4 copies (and get the stupid thing done), the patch will be available to all. Only $20 USD shipped! If you're interested, PM me or post in my sale thread.
-
Excellent news! That's one purchase.
-
Oh hey, look what I got in the mail.
-
The testers are making good progress, I still just need to put them in the game though. :V
-
I just received my copy and it's pretty! Thank you once again and keep up the good work!
-
Did this one stall out? It seemed like it was nearly finished.
-
I'd like to think I had gone for longer without a post but in any case, the short answer is that Comiket happened. Pretty much all of my productive free time went towards that. Hopefully I can start getting edits to the game in this week before M3 hits but we'll see.
-
GUESS WHAT?!
IT'S DONE!

Just plop it in the same folder as the game's .exe file and you're good to go.
Merry Christmas.

I didn't even know there was a second game! Thank you! I'm definitely going to check this out!
-
Oh yeah, and shoutouts to my beta testers and script-checkers: Gesh, Sahgren, and Arknarok!
Overall, I'd say the translation came out much better than my first game, due to a more thorough check and general improvements my translation/writing ability. Hope everyone enjoys it (even though it seems most have sort of forgotten about this (even though that was pretty much my fault))!
Edit: Changed title, that might help a bit on that end.
-
While I likely won't play through the game a third time (PW-games can't really boast with replay-value), I'm still really happy and giddy that the patch has finally been published!
I did check again out of curiosity and I do like that you also adapted the iconic exclamation bubbles for the final build. Also, good choice on the subtitle ;).
-
Thanks! The translation is really nice.
-
Oh yay, time to install my copy of the game and finally play it!
Thanks!
-
Ah, patch is up. I have been a fan of the first series, so I'm definitely going to try out the second!
Thank you for all the work placed into this, N-Forza and team!
-
I kinda made an account to tell you how thankful I am you made this patch. I really enjoyed the first game and second game. Thank you for all your efforts translating the game!
-
thanks for the translation, been enjoying it so far until chapter 4 which i was stuck at this point (spoiler warning):
at chapter 4-3 cross exam 1, what am i supposed to do with her confession? tried to object with all evidence to no avail. goddamn tenshi for stealing the damn bell.
-
solution to that cross-ex:
Press everything. Yes, really. No, I don't get it either.
solutions to the next two cross-exs, because they are unintuitive as hell:
Press everything, then present the detention cell statement to the first statement.
Press everything, then present the remilia's statement to the second statement.
All in all, I loved the game, right up until I spent an hour trying to find the solutions for these damn cross-exs.

i see, thanks lad. actually, i think the next two cross-ex are bit easier to figure out where the contradictions are, you just need to not let tenshi
rustle your jimmies during the examinations
-
Edit: Deleted due to dumb question
-
thanks for making the patch!! i have no idea there's a sequel to Shin Gyakuten..
anyway, does anyone know how to get past cross-examination 6 in chapter 2?? i love this type of game but i also suck on playing it....
-
Great translation! Thank you N-Forza and all other translators. I am enjoying it right now with my Touhou / Ace Attorney friends.
Any plans to translate Gyakuten Touhou 3?
-
Thanks, glad you like it!
I actually wasn't planning on it, partly because the reaction to finishing 2 wasn't anywhere near as huge as finishing 1, and partly because I am a whole lot busier nowadays. I might do Extra since that's a fair amount shorter, but that's a big "might".
-

Press every statement. Make sure to present the appropriate evidence on those of those presses.
-
really enjoyed this game though I think the first one is better and more complicated. But Chapter 4 is pretty nice. I really feel sorry for Satori
because she was deceived by Tenshi.
I was hoping to see the 3rd game getting translated but I guess it won't happen, huh? Anyway, thanks for the translation and the hard work!!

Merry Christmas.
Link is dead. It says "The file is currently unavailable. Our support staff have been notified and we hope to resolve the problem shortly. Please try again later." Could you please reupload it?
-
Weird, I thought I restored it. There's apparently a bug I need to investigate anyway so once I get around to it, I'll upload it. Hopefully it'll be before too long...
-
Okay, the patch has been fixed and reuploaded: https://www.sendspace.com/file/dxltdf
I'd like a more permanent place to put it but that can't be helped at the moment...
-
I'm sorry if it's not appropriate to ask, but where can you find the game itself? ??? (And in the right thread, now.)
-
They don't sell the game itself anymore, but instead they have a greatest hits that bundles all five-six games in the series. I can sell you that through my services if you like.
Alternatively, they sell used copies for pretty cheap (about $4) if that is acceptable: http://www.suruga-ya.jp/product/detail/186018977001
-
Ah, okay. I don't have the means for that, but thanks for the info, at least. :)
-
i'm very sad to see the that the expected results for the translation for the 2nd game were underwhelming i would however be very interested in trying to make it worth your time to complete the collection whether it means giving you an early donation encouragement and/or committing to buying X copies of the complete pack (honest i only need 1 copy you can just hold a raffle to give out the others free or something)
i do know you stated you have bigger things going on in your life which may make this request impossible regardless of my offers but i would like to stress i don't mind how long it takes to get it done. i can rest easy knowing at least someones working on it regardless of their pace
-

Awesome, thanks for all your help!
-
Ringo: I would absolutely love to continue translating the rest of the series, but it goes beyond the tepid response and the request to get more people to buy the games and is more because I'm a little too busy to take another side project of this magnitude at the moment. Maybe something will happen and I can pick it up again, but I can't promise anything.
-
Might be a little too late right now, but does anyone know the solution to the second game, Chapter 4 Cross Exam 3? I can't wrap my head around it.
-

Sorry for necropost.
Could someone reupload the latest patch for this game please.
-
Well, I'll join in on the necro! if it would be possible to re-upload the translation patch, I'd gladly appreciate it
-
I still had the game installed and patched, but didn't notice the bump in 2018 :(
Better late than never? Here you go (attached)

Well, thank you very much good sir! this translation patch can't just be found anywhere (afaik) so yours contribution was greatly appreciated!
If the translator is one day interested in translating the last entry (Gyakuten Touhou 3), that would be very nice!
