This isn't a good thing. I can rant for ages on why I hate that flash (hell, just the one clip) and what it's done to fan mentality.

Not saying the flash is good (or the song, too... too 'busy' and 'random' for me, but that's another rant), only saying that because of a combination of stupid pride/suicidal overconfidence and that, I can't play on Easy.

Mainly the stupid pride/overconfidence bit.

And that's what I'm commenting on. I couldn't care less whether or not someone liked the PV as a whole.

I don't play on Easy because of it.

Well, I do, a bit, but I don't treasure wins or losses in it. For the most part, I'm doing it in PCB for spell card captures.

You are definitely not alone on this.

As for me, I should get my parents to try out Touhou. I've had some success with my schoolmates in high school and university, but while my parents have seen me play, I haven't gotten them to actually try it themselves. Hm.

I have a question about the easy mode mockery: without shame, how is it you're supposed to improve oneself?

uhhh since when the fuck do you need shame for self improvement

that sounds majorly unhealthy to me

Without shame, I simply don't feel any need to go back and improve on what I've done. I don't see why that would be unhealthy.

It's psychologically unhealthy because you should have the drive to improve instilled upon you naturally. You should desire to do better because you want to do better, not because you failed. Over time, the kind of mindset you're taking can be very damaging.

Okay, Flamenco, I can assume you play Easy because you probably wouldn't be saying that otherwise.
So you 1cc Easy on a game.
Then you 1cc it on a few more games.
Eventually you 1cc all the games you planned on 1ccing. You're awesome enough for Normal now.

Wait, now there's nobody making fun of you for playing Normal. Are you going to stop?

Wait, now there's nobody making fun of you for playing Hard. Are you going to stop?

Wait, there's nobody making fun of you for playing Lunatic. Are you going to stop?

Wait, now you're getting praised for playing Lunatic well. Are you going to stop?

So where exactly is your border of "I improve by shame" and "I improve by accomplishments"? As far as I can see it's just Easy. In which case, why shouldn't you be proud of accomplishing anything on Easy, and/or why should you need shame in order to improve?

I mean even if you have a reason you did say "without shame, how is it you're supposed to improve oneself?"; it seems like you meant it as a general question instead of a personal one.

For low level players such as myself, clearing the extra stage is the best you could hope for, right? so I guess that's when I should be satisfied with myself. I've already got access to a few of them. Just gotta 1cc the remaining games.

I get the feeling this topic is derailing bad. :ohdear:

I sometimes try to lead my relatives into showing them the games after telling them about my cosplay (black feathered wings hanging in your room is a pretty decent conversation starter  :V)

I've been working on a "reset topic" animation for when topics derail.
More on this later.

I made my brother watch Lunatic mode Vs. Kaguya on YouTube, and he was in shock and awe.

And fear :ohdear:

My 12-year-old sister got into EoSD at some point. I'm not sure when. Possibly after I showed her create.swf

I've tried so hard to get my friends and family hooked on Touhou, but they refuse... sighh.. *WAILS*.
I thought for sure my brother at least would get into it because he's a total "Weeaboo" (Not really a Japanophile so much as anything Asian though). I mean he watches Naruto ffs, and he's over 30! He's a homophobic or something (he isn't really but.. seems to be for the case of Touhou), seems to think a game with so much femininity is lame. I told him it's not important and not really applicable, just like the fact that everyone in Call of Duty is a man. But he says "that's different".

I introduced a friend into IaMP. He liked it, later i introduced him to some of the shooters. He liked them so much he asked me where to buy them  :3 While playing SWR, a dude walking by asked about it, and i said it was this fighting game with only girls. After me pulling some cool aerials, he said "thats like dragonball z with chicks!" I had to stop myself from laughing. ^^;

My cousin played IN for some weeks. Apparently, he was trying to capture Saiyouji Flawless Nirvana. I laughed at him.

But other than that, I'm the only one that plays Touhou in the family.

If this were friends though, I have 3 people that played Touhou.

Any friends I showed it too seem to have the "fuck it, too hard" mentality, unfortunately, except for one who only showed a passing interest...

My brothers both think it's kinda cool, and one occasionally screws around on Lunatic and EX on EoSD, but doesn't care about the characters/story/music or anything else really.

As far as showing my friends...

80% of them have started calling me a pedophile. One of them already knew what it was. The last few couldn't care less about it.

Yeah, MotK is almost the only place I have for non-family Touhou discussion. It's depressing.

My mom:

Loves the arrnages
Loves the characters
Is upset that Marisa is a lesbian

Thinks Sanae is cute <3
Is indifferent towards Touhou dakimakuras
Does not mind having figures
Appreciates the effort of Touhou artists including H artists.

But above all, she loves the music.

Coolest mom ever. Can we share?  :V

I pretty much don't share Touhou with my family because I know none of them would be interested other than my cousin from out of state that has actually made a few Touhou songs on Little Big Planet.

I liked to play a lot in high school, which naturally drew looks. Nothing more than that though. My sister likes to make fun of me for playing a "loli shooter," though she admits it's mostly so she has something to counter her yaoi fangirlism. :P My mom just knows it as "the game where I die a lot." :fail:

Also, this guy.
nintendonut888: Hey Baity. I beat the high score for Sanae B hard on the score.dat you sent me. X3
Baity: For a moment, I thought you broke 1.1billion. Upon looking at my score.dat, I can assume that you destroyed the score that is my failed (first!) 1cc attempt on my first day of playing. Congratulations.

I got my brother to play not one, but four rounds.

He tried Normal Stage 1, Normal Stage 6, and Easy Stage 5.
He likes it, and he thinks it's hard :D

And then he tried Lunatic Stage 1.
He got to Cold Sign Lingering Cold L and then died.

He watched me play Extra before all this though.
